I AM SO DEEPLY UNWELL AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER

Once again I'm making jokes and being a little court jester with this running commentary but on GOD this series slaps so hard. Like yeah the slow burn romance is sending me into cardiac arrest for sure but I'm also invested in the plot that creatively examines the ways someone from our modern world would apply their mentality to a magical fantasy government system and the subsequent ramifications of such actions, while perfectly walking the tightrope between satire and serious political intrigue. And I could stare at the art all day.

Another thank you to the person writing the back copy, you are doing a STELLAR job sweetie and you're so real for calling Karvada devious. That man was sus from the start, I want him away from Seiichirou.

The hierarchy of magic in this world is SO funny. It's literally jocks vs nerds, either you're a royal knight and get a clubhouse or you're a royal sorcery researcher and you live in a cave. Total coincidence that the organization that receives funding is military while the one that gets absolute peanuts is the scientific division, can't imagine that's a reflection of any political patterns in this world.

People coming to Seiichirou for romantic advice is hilarious. What single thing about that man could possibly lead you to believe he'd be of help in that area. He's the friend whose only relationship advice is "break up," regardless of the issue at hand.

Every interaction between Seiichirou and Father Siegvold is like Seiichirou trying to interrogate a Jehovah's Witness on his doorstep about state secrets and then slamming the door in his face when Siegvold say he's the new messiah.

Actually I want a separate series from Yua's point of view. She gets pulled into an isekai as the chosen one but instead of getting the handsome love interest she wants, the severely burned out accountant that was sucked into this world along with her does because he's allergic to breathing apparently. He wants little to do with her but still manages to instill a strong sense of work ethic into her and lays the foundation she needs to stand up to the people idolizing her so she can forge her own path in this world, as well as works toward getting her home, and then he helps her start a free school system. They rarely interact in person but each time it's pivotal for both of them. He's really just her weird little guy, I'm obsessed with their dynamic. In my ideal world, Seiichirou stays with Aresh and the accounting department (obviously), and Yua goes back to their world and delivers a letter to Seiichirou's parents and explains that their strange son has settled down happily in an alternate world where he basically runs the government in the background and has a rich, doting boytoy husband, and his parents are like "yeah, that sounds like our son," and they and Yua become friends and they treat her to dinner once a month.

Yua: [holds up her hand to stop Seiichirou interrupting her so she can continue to speak]
Me: [wild whooping and cheering]

The frame of Seiichirou and Yua smiling back at Selio as they encourage him to join them in creating an education system so he can have the life he dreamed of has cured me actually.

Okay as I've copiously expressed, I love this series, but it's so Lord of the Rings coded in that there are two women total. And they do not speak to each other. That being said, I do think this fact creates a hysterical continuity error in Aresh's reputation as "able to get all the girls" and Seiichirou being like "yes he could have any woman he wanted" because to be totally honest I don't think he could. I think he had two older brothers and one older sister growing up and now views all young women as irritating siblings. He can count on his fingers how many women he's had any significant interaction with. He became a knight and only talks with other men that he also views as vaguely annoying. I think he would fumble so badly at a bar. In fact, the potential of him arriving unannounced at a celebratory round of drinks was literally described as being "an act of terror." He has no game. I'm going to be so real with you I doubt he's ever slept with anyone else even though everyone thinks he has. And all that makes Seiichirou running out on him to go into work that first morning 10000 times funnier.

I love Seiichirou so much he's such a little whack job. He's like I really don't care about your kingdom itself, your government just runs things with such egregious inefficiency that it's giving me hives and I'm compelled to fix it.

Imagine the Prime Minister sits you down and says to your face with absolutely no euphemism whatsoever that the captain of the royal guard, an extremely powerful man in both intelligence and strength that is notorious for being cold and distant, is your dog. And then in the next five minutes he (the Prime Minister. Of a whole country) says if your dog wasn't there he'd be your sugar daddy. Like what the fuck is Seiichirou even going through. They need an HR department STAT.

Seiichirou every day: it's SO annoying how the most handsome man in the world takes care of me all the time and forces me to have a work life balance and greets me at the door to our house in the fantasy suburbs. Did I mention he's beautiful beyond belief? Like a statue? Ugh.
Seiichirou the minute Aresh isn't there: wait a second.

Seiichirou saying he wanted Aresh to see his final purification plan before turning it into the Prime Minister, and the subsequent implication that Seiichirou likes to have his work looked over by Aresh, is his love language actually. He wants his beloved to fact check him.

Aresh really said yes this mission will protect the kingdom's people and land from harm, but more importantly, it will impress the accountant I'm in love with <3

The fact that Seiichirou basically asked Aresh's surrogate mom about the meaning of Aresh's love letter is so fucking funny. Imagine you write a passionate letter to your beloved only for him to not understand your poetic sign off and so he asks the woman who raised you about it.

I clown on Aresh for being so down bad for Seiichirou it's embarrassing but tbh Seiichirou is just as clownable bc like? A priest has a crush on him. The fucking Prime Minister wants him carnally. And he's completely oblivious to it. Except as soon as Aresh falls for him he's all "I see what's happening, I'm fully aware, I'm not stupid" like bitch yes you are. The reason you notice he has feelings for you is because you have feelings right back so his opinion matters to you and therefore you pay attention. Fool.

Losing my mind at the frame of Aresh smiling warmly in a memory while Seiichirou worries about his safety, it's giving dead wife montage and I kind of love it.

The Third Royal Order after a tough battle: We prevailed in this fight, however there are plenty more beasts to face. We must update the kingdom immediately to ensure its safety.
Captain Aresh Indolark, holding up the line for the mail courier: Um, can you wait? I'm magic IMing my boyfriend actually.

LOVE me a guy that treats children like real people, with kindness and respect and no bullshit, lets them make their own choices without pressuring them with more work, and then turns around and is a total stone cold bitch to adults because they should know better. Seiichirou you're a king.

Shoutout to Captain Makovska tbh, he's a real one for understanding and immediately going along with whatever Seiichirou's subterfuge is. And then shoutout to Norbert for absolutely not doing any of those things.

Seiichirou saw a teenage prince with a crush and SLAMMED that exploit button, but it was to provide funding for schools so it's okay.

I was so invested in the state v. church government funds scandal plot that I kind of forgot this was gay for a hot second.

Physically ill with emotion because of those extra scenes that weren't in the light novel. Imagine you're trying to come to terms with the fact that your first love won't love you back and will in fact leave you but then when you're setting off on a dangerous mission in the early hours, quietly so as not to wake anyone, said first love comes RUNNING OUT OF BED to say goodbye to you and tell you not to get hurt and then gets all demure about how "a civilian shouldn't say such things to a knight" as if this is some forbidden romance period drama. I'm so so so so normal.

Seiichirou realizing the cushion he received as a mystery gift early on and has loved because it's important to his productivity and shows a care for the things he values doing in his life was actually gifted to him by Aresh. Get KNOWN and LOVED, idiot.

My publisher should never give me access to a company Amex card because I would simply use it to wine and dine the English rights agent for this series in an insane long game to gain early insider access to these books. Does this make me part of the same problem Seiichirou is trying to fix in the alternate fantasy world? Yes. Would I do it anyway? Absolutely.

Crumpled on the floor, starving for news of volume six. Yen Press I'll do anything please give me a release date.

In this volume of manga, Kondou continues his audit of the church. Having read the light novel, I more or less knew what was going to happen, but it didn’t matter. The story-line didn’t really lead anywhere yet, and what he’ll find was left to the next manga volume. The issues are fairly complicated and the manga didn’t do them justice with the way everything had to be hurried. If I hadn’t read the book, I’m not sure I would’ve understood everything that was going on.

Kondou’s relationship with Aresh doesn’t progress much either. The two spend most of the volume apart, but at least it gives Kondou a chance to figure out his feelings, which currently are a confusing mess. Aresh’s letters help with that. He seems to have everything figured out already. Only one bedroom scene, and it was faided to black.

Nevertheless, this was a delightful return to Kondou’s world, and I enjoyed it like all the previous volumes. Looking forward to reading more.

Though they were apart the entire volume (shown together only in flashbacks), it's easy to see the feelings growing between them

The only thing I don't love about this series is how long it's going to take me to finish reading it.

I was hoping for a little bit more of Kondou coming to terms with his feelings while Aresh is away, but it's definitely progressing in that direction. He was perfectly fine with the seven days he'd planned for - Kondou is excellent at compartmentalizing and showing maximum efficiency even with his emotions - but Aresh threw him off by staying longer to fight magical beasts. Putting himself in danger, and stalling the return that Kondou had been prepared for...it's enough to make Kondou finally start showing some real distress over not having him around.

The chains bit was really, really interesting though, and continues to make me think there will have to be some sort of shift in their dynamic for Kondou to truly want to pursue a mutual romantic entanglement. But instead of feeling like he's tied to Aresh through his need for Aresh's magical barriers and protective/healing spells, Kondou feels as though he has been the one to chain Aresh to him...with a love that he's currently not reciprocating.

Again, there's the parallel between the holy maiden and the prince, with the divisions that come when people from different worlds are bonded together.

I honestly can't see Kondou wanting to return to his own world when he has so much to keep him busy here, but we'll see how that plays out.

The holy relics at the church were a super interesting twist that I wasn't expecting. Can't tell yet if this is something suspicious from the church, or merely another way that the magical kingdom functions. Still waiting for a concrete villain! But loving this story so very much.

I skipped ahead because I wasn't hopeful that books 3 and 4 would be worth my time, and the library had this on stock (for SOME reason), so...

Nope, still weird.

Like, the art is really good, ATTRACTIVELY good. It totally draws in the crowd looking for gay romance. Problem is, beyond that, it's just a fight to get Seiichiro to stop doing so much work and constantly uncovering various embezzlements and cover-ups in everything he sees. Dude is so conditioned to be incapable of relaxing from his time at his Japanese company. Even when ORDERED to take time off, he can't!

This series is almost as depressing as No Longer Allowed In Another World, which features the most depressing, absolutely suicidal main character (Seiichiro at least isn't *consciously* trying to kill himself, it's more a destructive habit). I don't know how many folks are as such interested in "death by overwork porn" (in both senses of porn), but if so, this series might be for you! Otherwise... I guess you could look at the attractive art and not read the story?

I cannot begin to express how much I enjoyed this series.

I really like it a lot, as it helped me remember to laugh after stressful points in my own life. The TLDR; summary of this series is: A workaholic tries to save a girl being pulled into a portal to another world and ends up getting dragged along. He then takes it upon himself to work in their accounting department, ODs on fantasy energy drinks, and then becomes involved with the main love interest.

What I appreciate is that all the side characters are very lively and shine on their own without being overshadowed by the main couple. It's nice when series do this. All the characters are also very animated as well, allowing for many silly and enjoyable moments. Another point I really liked is that, as a BL, they still make the female characters really likeable. Often times you see a lot of BL series pit the MC against a female rival and they tend to make her not all that great and overall dislikeable to a degree. But this one actually gave the major female character (still a side character btw) character growth and didn't brush her off. Again, a lot of the side characters are very likeable.

I would HIGHLY recommend this isekai series if you like ones like Titans Bride. While it doesn't have a size different trope, it does have age difference and Aresh is compared to a black cat trope. Also the protagonist Kondou is 30, so it has an older (middle aged) male MC. It is fantasy based as well, so there is a lot of fun world building in a series revolving around economics. Do not get mislead thinking this is about a coffee shop just because it has bean in the title, because I know I sure did. lol

— 4.5 stars

GAHHHH I tried so hard not to make this five stars; it didn’t exactly have that heart-clench moment I look for but I’m holding out hope for the next volumes since it seemingly looks like things are starting to progress.

The time apart has made Kondou at least a little bit come to terms with the nature of his feelings towards Aresh, and I’m hoping he can portray some of it to Aresh as well.

I also think it’s so funny how Kondou is doing so many grand things that would result in the prosperity of this country, just for his own selfish reasons - i.e., going back to his own world. Although, it’s very hard to picture him choosing that route when the actual time comes because he has close to no one in the other world, while he has people who genuinely like and adore him here + the mountains of ambitious plans and projects he’s put himself in.

The “you are the one chaining down Aresh” bit was also interesting and I wonder if it’s gonna impact on what Kondou decides to do with his relationship with Aresh.

Also, i would LOVE to see Seglio and Sigma go to school. It’d be adorable to see them be classmates.

I’m honestly kinda in deep with this series, and it seems like vol.6 pub in english will take some time, at least months. So i’m thinking of picking up the light novel, the last volume of which will be published next month! (which 99.99% will come earlier than the next volume of manga!)

First ever isekai. First ever light novel. I must really like this series.

Imagine my shock when I got to the end and realized that it ended in a cliffhanger. That this was in fact, not the last volume in the series😭😭😭

Idk how this happened, randomly through this book, as Kondou was explaining his idea for the school, it hit me that he's basically the Dr. Stone of this world. But unlike Senku who has to rebuild civilization, bro over here has had to rebuild the accounting department and is now on his way to setting up an education program for the poor n marginalized kids.

It was interesting seeing the prime minister finally admit that he wanted Kondou. specifically, If that dark beast wasn't around, I'd have taken you in myself. The way Kondou gasped in fear...🤣🤣🤣. Good thing Aresh lowkey bullied him into a relationship and living with him.

Speaking of their relationship, I love that Kondou is finally admitting that he actually like having Aresh 'treat' him and even misses being bullied into eating lunch because it meant he'd eat with Aresh. It also took a life or death situation to bring Kondou closer to admitting his feelings to himself but you know what... I'll take what I can get with this stubborn man.

Can't wait for vol 6!

I'm ready for the anime!

Another great volume. It seems like I waited a lifetime for this volume to drop. Its just such a great story, the only thing that could make it better is if it were an omegaverse. I wish Kondou and Aresh could have babies of their own. I'm excited for volume 6 as I feel it will have some heated and passionate scenes because Kondou didn't take care with his health and he never sent his responses to Aresh's letters. I can see him falling ill, an argument ensues, they distance themselves, and by happenstance Aresh comes across the unsent letters, then love is once again restored. The prime minister expressing his desire for Kondou was a little ick for me, but maybe he meant it in an adoptive parent Kind of way. I pray that the creator sees great success and will be able to complete this series.

Verdammt, wo bleibt Band 6!!!??? So fies!!!

Volume 5 of really stepped things up for me compared to the last one. We finally get some meaningful development in the relationship between Seiichirou and Aresh, which I’ve been waiting for! Kondou’s feelings for Aresh become a lot clearer in this volume, and it feels like he’s starting to acknowledge just how much Aresh means to him.

There’s still that slow-burn vibe, but the progress is noticeable, and it makes their dynamic so much more engaging. The mix of relationship growth and their usual work-and-fantasy shenanigans kept things interesting, and it left me excited to see where their bond will go next. Definitely one of my favorite volumes so far!

I found this story interesting, but this volume dragged. The workaholic is getting old. He is purposefully trying to kill himself working, I think. The two lovers have both finally realized they have feelings for each other, but they were mostly apart this volume.

It's old just seeing the bean counter work and nothing else. Without the romance... boring. That's sort of how I felt about this volume.

There is some state secrets being built up here and It's going to put the workaholic in hot water, but I don't really care about that.

this series was interesting, but it's moving slow and I can't see what's the goal is. Maybe there isn't one.

I really, really am enjoying this manga series so far. it's got just enough plot to be interesting, but also not have any high-stakes. there's a diverse cast of colourful characters. and of course, sei and aresh have such a sweet relationship.

in vol.5 sei continues his investigation of the church, and maybe uncovers some long kept secrets. aresh leaves on an expedition to purify the miasma, and is kept away longer after dangerous beasts threaten the villages.

I loved that we got the see sei pine for the first time. he's very self-aware that he's been ignoring his growing relationship with aresh, but we really get to see him feel and yearn this volume.

I really like the concept of The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter, Vol. 5. The idea of solving problems with accounting in a magical world is definitely unique and fun. But honestly, the pacing is still pretty slow, and the story structure feels a bit clunky at times. It’s hard to stay fully invested or figure out what the main takeaway is supposed to be.

That said, it’s not a bad read—it just didn’t completely grab me. If you’re into a mix of fantasy and quirky problem-solving, it could still be worth checking out!
