Fallen Olympian #2

True Olympian

Rate this book
The epic conclusion to the swashbuckling, romantic fantasy duet that is perfect for readers who loved Fourth Wing and A Touch of Darkness!

Not even death will stop her.

I have once again been torn from everything I have ever known. Trapped in the realm of darkness and ruin, I am ready to succumb to my misfortune and embrace the eternal rest I have more than earned.
But the souls of the recently deceased begin to pile up, and the God that rules over this realm and over my heart is nowhere to be found. If they are not getting the afterlife they deserve, what kind of hero would I be, were I to abandon them?
And so, I become the Goddess the Underworld needs.
Taking over Hades' tasks is easier said than done, and the more I dig, the more things I uncover that are not adding up. Why are there so many new souls? Where are all these monsters coming from?
Danger looms over the Underworld, and when a trip to Tartarus yields even more questions, something becomes stark
I need to find answers.
Only, the God that has them is in a realm that is once again beyond my reach. The odds pile against me, for no mortal can escape the realm of the Dead once they have entered it. But I am not ready to give up.
Because I am no mere mortal.
I lost everything to save the Underworld, and I refuse to let my sacrifice be in vain.
Life, love, justice and happiness are all in the line, and I will fight with everything that I have to earn them back. Enemies across realms, be prepared, for there is nothing more dangerous than a fallen Goddess that has nothing to lose.
And everything to win.

I was sent an early copy of this book in exchange for my thoughts and a review.

I really enjoyed reading the first book last year so I was super excited to receive the sequel. I don't think it happens often at all where I love the second book more than the first one but here we are. This was one of the better books I've read this year. Cris Galdamez knows how to write interesting complex female characters who have more personality than being in love with a mysterious powerful man. I love all of the side characters as well and how queer accepting the whole atmosphere is the way it actually was in Ancient Greece. I'm Balkan and particularly fond of Greek mythology but all of the creative frivolities the author took were reasonable and none of them felt totally out of character.

I'd be really interested to read more about any of the other characters in cause the author decides to expand the universe or any other book, really.

PS: to all the people who compared this to Percy Jackson in the first book review, how? Where ? As the biggest Percy Jackson hater, the books and universes have literally nothing in common.

I liked the first book but I LOVED this one!!!
Last year I read the first part of this duology and fell in love with the characters and their story, so when the second book came out I couldn’t wait to read it!
I loved it even more that the first book (if that is even possible). The pace is really nice (makes you unable to put down the book!!), alternating action and character development from our FMC. I’m especially fond of Achilles and Hecate and I think the author managed to convey their bond with the main character very nicely.
This book is spot on for mythology lovers, with a touch of romance and some nice action!
Overall the book was very enjoyable and a beautiful closure to this duology.
I cannot wait to read more from this author!!! I’m sure she has some amazing books in store for us in the future!

I really wanted to love this because I enjoyed the first book. Sadly, my interest kept fading as I went on. I genuinely liked the characters and found the storyline interesting, but I caught myself skipping more and more parts. It felt like the book could have been shorter, as some sections became quite draggy.
I also found the FMC’s inner monologue a bit cringy at times, some of her thoughts sounded childish rather than like a strong fantasy heroine. Unfortunately, I ended up DNF’ing at 70%
