This exciting case study traces accurately the history of the Inupiat Eskimo of Alaska from pre-contact times to the present. Ancient treks and family life are vividly described, while the impact of petroleum and the "Ideology of Progress" are discussed in detail.
Why did I read this? I can't remember. It was probably the last book on the shelf I hadn't read. However, it was interesting in parts (the arrival of the Europeans, Eskimo whiskey drinking), kind of uninteresting in others (land use rights, etc.). I should really get a job reviewing books, I obviously have a natural talent for it.
