A small-town librarian by day, Amelia Beauchamp transforms into miniskirt-clad cocktail waitress Amber Champion by night, catching the eye of the town's biggest rake, Tyler Savage. Original.
AMELIA BY DAY From nine to five, she was Amelia Beauchamp, typical small-town librarian. But when the sun went down, she was miniskirt-clad cocktail waitress Amber Champion. And she'd caught the eye of the town's biggest rake, Tyler Savage. The name said it all -- and this was one Savage, "Amber" knew, who would never be interested in her if he knew who she really was. She had to keep playing the game....
AMELIA BY NIGHT Or did she? Tyler, it turned out, was well aware that proper Amelia and flirtatious Amber were one and the same -- and he was having a fine old time playing along. And as for romantic dinners and long, moonlit nights together, really, they were all part of the game. One which he had every intention of turning into reality....

Many parts of this book made me smile while the others made me upset. Amelia got on my nerves at times but I honestly didn’t hate her. Sometimes I felt like she was a mixture of shyness, wildness, and oddness. I partially enjoyed the scenes where she was with Tyler. They somehow looked lovely together, I would say. Their chemistry was so obvious that I could almost see sparks flying between them every time they got near each other. Their sexy times were undoubtedly well-written and well-placed.
All in all, this was an ok read for me. Nothing particularly special about both the plot and characters; it was lovely, sweet, funny, and heartwarming though.
"Amber By Night" is the story of Amelia/Amber and Tyler.
So I was having a bad streak of below average reads, and I NEEDED a good book. Checked out best HQN Desire listopias, and this book was #1. Hence I had high expectations. Totally did not let me down.
A heartwarming romance with two meddlesome aunts, a snooping neighbor, and enough comedy of errors to keep you hooked- this one had a heroine leading a double life (for a good cause), a hero that is instantly hooked (and pretty smart), some crazy dilemmas, hidden identities and overall loads of love and affection.
Very likable sweet characters with sizzling chemistry, and enough love for each other and their family.
If you like a kind hearted librarian heroine, an obsessed alpha but caring hero, and two bickering but loving aunts- you'll enjoy this one too.
Overall a feel good romance with a cute epilogue too!
Prim and proper Amelia Beauchamp sees her walls narrowing from within, living with her elderly Aunts they are her only priority and the chance happily ever after is slowly disappearing. Wanting at least one chance at a bit fo freedom, Amelia takes a job as a cocktail waitress but goes by the name Amber Champion, she does not expect to catch the eye of bad boy Tyler Savage.
Tyler knows there is something familiar about the stunning beauty, but she is a contradiction to him. On the one hand she is confident but on the other she jumpy when it comes to him, once he realizes that Amber is none other than Amelia, he sets a plan in motion to win her heart.
A hidden gem, had some really funny moments and you understand Amelia's anxiety as she tries to follow her heart but is torn about leaving the Aunts in order to do so.
So I kinda hate the secret identity thing in romance novels. It's the duplicity and deceit of it, I guess. Making it even worse, this chick basically dates the guy as both women, forcing him to feel guilty and confused. There are better ways to pull off the double identity thing. I couldn't like Amelia because she was lying the whole time.
I read most of Sharon Sala's stuff 2 years ago and I've been rereading all that I don't remember. After rereading this one, I hope I can remember that I really just don't like it.
I read this to see how well the author dealt with the 'same person' plot and I was disappointed. The heroine isn't likable. She seems weak and stupid. However, maybe it isn't the author's fault. Maybe it's just difficult to pull off this type of plot.
As much as I want to love this book, I can't. It's a good book, and I enjoyed the chasing, but Amelia's a bit too.. I don't know, she needs to let her heart out. She's holding herself to tight and she deserves the best.
Need more drama but overall I enjoyed it. Just not my favorite.
This poor book is bland as heck. It is like an outline that no details were filled in yet. People are described but uhhh what is described never shows up. Hero is SUCH a bad boy...where? When? That gossipy biotch next door! Girl, you can't go around telling people other people are 'ladies of the night'!!! You just can't. Why didn't the heroine tell her aunts she got another job? Sheesh so much secrecy for nothing. Wish the hero was friends with the heroine before finding her at the bar, would have upped the stakes a bit. But such a non sexy book. Did like the hero getting the aunts to like him. But overall skip it.
Short and sweet. Not my favorite Sala book, but still enjoyable! Even though this was published in the early 2000’s it has the feel of an 80’s novel. I grew up reading those romances, so it didn’t bother me in the least, but a more “modern” reader might be appalled by a few of the less than modern sensibilities displayed in this story. 😄
I first read this book a few years ago, because the main character is a librarian. (I've decided to read all the romances with librarians that I can find!) I gave it 4 stars then, but this time it just seemed kind of silly and I'm downgrading it to 3 stars.
I really enjoyed this book. The aunts were so funny and full of starch. The main two characters sure did have a trip of romance on a bumpy road. I love the reason Amelia had to become Amber at night. The book was just fun to read. Thanks for the great read.
Funny love story with sweet romance and funky characters. The Aunts were great, the hero used super Insightful psychology to deal with them and their niece.
I liked the history the girl and the two nice old lady's. My only problem was with the guy's actions after he finds out. It made everything more complicated then needed to be
This book was an "OK" read. It didn't really strike me as significant or memorable as a whole. What I did like was Tyler's character. He was every bit of an alpha male who takes charge but not to the point of rude and blatant arrogance (like the heroes in most novellas).
As for Amelia's character, I think the author mishandled her supposed duality. I do understand that she was cossetted by her aunts but she was presented in such a way that you'd think she was an intelligent woman. It was proven otherwise when she couldn't put 2+2 together when Tyler rebuffed Amber and oh so casually went for Amelia. That should have given her some sort of premonition or logical conclusion that Tyler had an idea that they were one and the same.
In my opinion, Amber disappeared too early in the story to make the concept of duality convincing.
On the other hand, I absolutely adored Rosemary! She's so funny! I'd like to have an aunt like her, all vibrant and "sensible" even in old age. I liked that she seems to understand things beyond what is said and have a kind of "live in the moment" attitude like when she .
And Tyler, the man who has everything and most sexy bachelor at his town. The man who will become her destiny.
4.5 stars. I really liked this book. There was a nice mix of humour and tension in the story. The characters were great, with the secondary characters firmly supporting the plot. I really liked that the romance did not exist in a bubble, and in fact was greatly influenced by family. I wish the cover was different, as it doesn't really capture the feel of the book, and in fact, I wondered afterwards if the feel of the book was more of a Silhouette Romance than a Desire book. Between the cover and the book line it was in, the reader may be expecting a steamier book then this charming romance.
This was absolutely one of the best books that I've ever read. It was funny, I actually laughed out loud! I loved this book and would/do recommend it to anyone & everyone that loves to read.
A realy nice book. Amelia (Amber) is able to come out of her shell and win the rake Tyler. Her aunts Rosemary and Wilhemina almost steal the story. All are really sweet.
