Can I Say That?

Rate this book
Can I Say That is your safe space to learn more about diversity, equity and inclusion, and how you can be a force for change. By explaining the common fears we all face about DEI, you'll feel empowered to talk with confidence and take action.

Most DEI books focus on gender, race or the intersection of those two dimensions. This book adopts a much broader intersectional lens while also providing concrete tools for allyship.

This book is for you if

Want to know more about diversity, equity, and inclusion but don't know where to start. Are worried about saying the wrong thing. Don't feel comfortable talking about DEI. Are worried conversations might escalate or end in conflict. Don't want to be the only one fighting for change.

In an area where shame, fault-finding and cancelling (not to mention scathing SoMe posts) create such palpable fear, Poornima Luthra has provided an practical guide to navigating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in "Can I Say That?".

From the basics of what is DEI and fear, Luthra asks the reader to dive into a deeper self-reflection on what is driving your actions. From understanding the four possible responses to fear, to the five nudges to let go of your DEI fears, understanding the fluidity and contextualization of privilege and the 5R Framework and so it is with grace and kindness you're equipped to better care for those around you.

Finally, there is an overarching message to slow down your mind and reactions, open your heart and lean into others - and as you give time and energy to these it will take all of us forward.
