Brake Me, Baby

Rate this book
This summer, I came home to convince my brother there was life outside of the coastal town we grew up in. That we could leave behind the trauma of our greatest loss behind. That there was healing in escaping. But when I put my plan into motion, I was faced with hard truths. There wasn’t always escape in escaping, and my brother’s best friend, the one I grew up despising, will make this summer one to crave—and one to regret.

Indy was my best friend’s sister. Growing up, I despised her. And when she came home for the summer after years of not seeing her, my disdain lived on. But something else brewed from the pits of me—lust. A need to not only push all her buttons, but to break down her walls and let me in. Will this be our best kept secret, or will we just crumble in ashes?

I read this in less than 24 hours. It was perfect.

The chemistry.
The spice.
The dirty talk.
THE CONFIDENCE. 👏🏼

CC absolutely nailed this story of Indy and Linc. I am obsessed with them and will forever be.

I fully accept that this rating is a me thing, not the book's thing. I think many will enjoy this one, I just wasn't one of them. And I really wanted to love it.

This is not an enemies to lovers, this is the remembrance of previously being enemies that flies out the window literally the moment they set eyes on each other as adults.

They start their "enemies" with benefits things but they're both literally seeing forever with each other even as they agree to keep it casual. Like the MMC is calling her his and making her say it even before they start everything so that should give you an idea of how little tension there was in this book. Things continue on like this for the entire book. There isn't a moment when they both don't know that this is a forever thing they've just started.

Didn't like that things with the FMC's brother aren't resolved. He lashes out at her in the beginning with a ton of resentment for her leaving him and going to college and then they never address it.

What is (rightfully) addressed is her wanting him to move away from their small town so much. But with that, he tells her how happy he is with his life and how he's dealt with the loss of their parents and loves his life. So where did the resentment for her leaving him to deal with it all alone come from? Because when he lashed out at her it was clear he was still hurting and thought she never should have left their small town.

Anyway, we don't really see the FMC grow either. She's still running away even at the very end and refusing to talk anything though. She gets in an accident and it serves as the reason she's forgiven and forgives in her arguments with both her brother and the MMC. Everything is just blanket forgiven because she's healing and alive.

Ends on an HFN . :((((

Lastly, do we have to have every damn "flaw" the FMC has pointed out every time the MMC even glances at her? I love that it was pointed out and appreciated. And then it happened EVERY DAMN CHAPTER. Yes, I loved that he was into her bigger body, and that her apron belly (that he lifted to see beneath, played with, moved around at different times, etc.) turned him on, that he wanted to lick her stretch marks and caress her dimpled thighs. We get it, she's plus size and the author wants us to know he finds her sexy. I do NOT need a description every time he sees her, touches her, or fucks her. I'm plus size too and istg if someone said some of these things to me as often as he thinking them I'd be worried. Like please imagine every time someone is fucking you they tell you, "I love your pimply face so much." (Edit: this is NOT an example from the book.) Why is that the point of your focus instead the way her thighs are currently rebounding or something? Can't she just be beautiful full stop? Because there were very few times where she was just beautiful in this book without her extra bits being the parts that made her desirable in his eyes and that borders on fetishization to me.

There's a line between appreciation and going overboard to prove appreciation and this went overboard.

Brother’s best friend? Enemies-to-lovers? A plus size FMC? Honestly, what could go wrong with a book featuring these tropes? If you ask me, nothing. On the contrary, I really enjoyed this book, which deals with topics that struck a chord with me.

Indigo is a young woman who clearly carries the weight of grief on her shoulders. Orphaned at fourteen, she hasn’t allowed herself to mourn her parents and has buried her feelings so as not to face the harsh reality of accepting their death. Garrett, her older brother, was in the car when the accident that killed their parents occurred. Although he was seriously injured, by the time he was twenty-three, he had taken on the role of caretaker and was doing his best to look after his little sister. Beyond being siblings, Indigo and Garrett are also best friends, united by a strong bond that only siblings who have experienced the same trials can have.

While Indigo was raised by Garrett, she was also constantly around Lincoln, her big brother’s best friend. When you start Brake Me, Baby, you almost expect to find the cliché of the FMC’s brother’s best friend who rides a motorcycle and is built like a Greek god. While Lincoln is all of those things, he is much more than the cliché you would expect from this kind of character. He pays attention to others and would sacrifice his life for his best friend. Lincoln owns his own garage, he’s levelheaded and not a player who goes from one conquest to the next. In fact, he’s a man who needs to be in a stable relationship—plus, he’s a cat dad, what more could you ask for?

Lincoln and Indigo have never got along, and neither of them expects that to change when twenty-one-year-old Indy comes to spend the summer with her brother. However, sometimes our worst enemy can become our closest ally.

What I truly appreciated about this book was how it addressed grief. Each character experiences grief differently, and the book accurately portrays how unique each person’s experience with grief is. I also appreciated the portrayal of endometriosis and PCOS through the Indigo who suffers from them. Even though we talk about these diseases more today, they are still taboo for some and are still minimised as ‘simple’ period pain by others. My heart melted when Lincoln decided to buy e-books about these medical conditions so he could learn how to help Indigo, as she was in the midst of a flare-up at that point in the story.

Brake Me, Baby is a moving book that I recommend reading.

Many thanks to CC Monroe for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of Brake Me, Baby. This review is my own. All opinions expressed are mine.

This book strutted onto the page like it owned the joint—much like the FMC herself, who is an absolute delight as well as a menace. The body positivity and fat-acceptance in this weren’t just refreshing; they were the emotional equivalent of someone hugging you and saying, “Hey, you’re allowed to love yourself exactly as you are.” (and feel like a goddess while you do it)

And when she had an endometriosis/PCOS flare up? The MMC cared for her with such gentleness and genuine concern that I momentarily forgot this was fiction and wondered if he offered workshops for real-life partners. It was so incredibly sweet.
He didn't see caring for her as a burden but his pleasure, for someone who's suffering with the same conditions, that truely got me in the feels.

Their journey from enemies to reluctant lovers to “you are my person, my best friend, the person I’d trust with all my past and secrets” gave me all the warm fuzzies. Honestly, if I could bottle their chemistry and sell it, I’d pay rent with the profits.

But then… that scene happened. The emotional blackmail moment felt like the author suddenly swapped out the MMC for an off-brand version found in the clearance bin. It made absolutely zero sense for him—especially knowing her history—to purposely scare her like that. It didn’t just break character; it yeeted his character as an emotionally intellegant, empathetic and safe guy straight out the nearest window. While it didn’t ruin the book for me, it definitely left a little “????” floating above my head like a confused video-game NPC. Still, the rest of the story was charming, heartfelt, and delightful enough that it left me smiling when I finished.

Brake Me, Baby by CC Monroe

This one deserves 5 ⭐️s for the dedication alone! I told my husband, "This one's gonna be so good, I can tell." Then I read the dedication to him. And that's how I found myself explaining what a Jacob's ladder is to my husband on a Wednesday afternoon. 🤣🤣🤣

But seriously, this book has it all! Enemies to Lovers and Brother's Best Friend? Indigo and Lincoln are the absolute best. Their banter and chemistry are off the charts from the very beginning. Indigo is back in town for the summer after being away for years with only short visits. Lincoln has avoided her on all those trips, but it will be impossible to do for a whole summer. They discover that they both want her brother to be happy, and they don't think he can do that in their hometown. They work together to devise a plan to get her brother to leave their hometown, all while hiding their no feelings attached summer fling. Surprise... there's feelings! Secrets come to light, and unresolved grief threatens to break them apart. Can Indigo and Lincoln survive the summer?

I absolutely loved the book, the plus-size representation, and the PCOS/Endometriosis representation! It was so well done, and I really enjoyed reading about a FMC similar to myself.

I received an ARC of this book, but these opinions are my own. I would like to thank the author, CC Monroe, for allowing me the privilege of reading her work. ❤️

I love how CC gives you no nonsense. She says it’s a fun and sexy time, not a literary masterpiece. Indy and Lincoln have a tense relationship and have since Indy’s older brother befriended him. It’s a back and forth, push and pull, tension fueled build up when Indy returns home to her small, costal Washington town to visit her brother. There’s a lot of layers to Indy and Lincoln which have the deep emotional component to their story. Their spice though? That’s what drive the story forward because lord when they act in their feelings? It’s an explosion where you just enjoy the fall out. CC is a one click author for me because she never makes her curvy FMC whole personality their weight. They are confident and have real thoughts about their bodies. Her MMCs love their women. For every reason including their bodies. Her characters are layered and enjoyable. This was such a fun story Andy inly complaint was I wanted more of them.

Oooof curvy fmc and motorcycle brother’s best friend mmc - what more could you want?

I really enjoyed this book. The plot (apart from the party), the spice, the chemistry, the beautiful way that grief and loss is described. CC constructed each part so prettily and even though she did argue in the author’s note that it’s more spice than plot, I honestly never felt that way when reading. The only thing I struggled with was some typos that would’ve been easily found and avoided with a/another round of proofreading which is why I docked a star. That and the two week skip…

Overall, this was a great read and I was hooked by the second chapter. The intense interactions and enemies to lovers vibes was lush and the spice was giving each time. Although I have questions about that motorcycle scene…

Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Indigo returns home for the summer determined to hope her brother move forward and let go of the past. Letting their parents house go and hopefully going to explore life. What she doesn’t expect is his best friend Lincoln. They both have grown and now their attraction is off the charts. But her brother move forward will
Never accept their relationship.

Now they are hiding a big secret and Indigo is no closer to helping her brother. But maybe that isn’t her job and her summer is about finding herself and her real self.

A cute curvy FMC that takes no crap and a man that loves her and all her curves.

CC Monroe tells us going in that this book is mostly spice and little plot but I actually really enjoyed the plot! Don’t get me wrong, there was plenty of hot, spicy scenes but that wasn’t all that made me love Indigo and Lincoln. I enjoyed their banter and the fact that it didn’t disappear just because they became lovers. Indigo is a plus sized baddie and I love that she embraces her body type, as does Lincoln. I also love that the author spoke a lot about grief and how everyone handles it differently. There was seriously so much to adore about this story and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good brother’s best friend romance!

This is my first book by CC Monroe and definitely won’t be my last.

💜Brother’s best friend
💜Enemies to lovers
💜Pierced MMC
💜Curvy FMC

Lincoln and Indigo have never seen eye to eye. The only thing tethering them together is Indigo’s brother Garrett. Indigo moved away for college and never looked back. She is back for the summer and their heat turns from enemies to hot hot lovers real quick!

I loved Lincoln and how hard he fell. This man knows what he wants and he will do what needs to be done to get the girl!

Their chemistry was piping hot! And their dirty talking (both sides) was fantastic!

I really struggled with how to rate this book—honestly, I struggled just sorting out my feelings about it. Because here’s the thing: I loved so much about this story. The frank, realistic, conversational writing style worked for me. The characters were flawed and dynamic, and I was completely invested. I’m actually dying for book 2 because of how much I care about these characters. And the spice? Heavy and delicious.
But…there were flaws. I noticed some errors, and sometimes the conversational style dipped into weaker writing. The “will they/won’t they” dragged more than I like. And while the dedication promised “light plot, heavy spice,” I personally think it could have been even spicier.

I settled on 4 stars for this book, and 3 🌶️ for the spice. On another day, I might rate it lower. But this is a story that I think will stick in my mind for a while. The characters are truly fantastic. The representation for plus size bodies and women’s health was incredible. I loved it enough to buy a physical copy.

I love me a brothers best friend, enemies to lovers romance book and this was it! Indigo and Lincoln can’t stand each other, always bickering and pissing each other off. Until she’s back in town after a while and now theres a spark. Navigating falling for your brother’s best friend isn’t what she had in mind while she was home for the summer. Watching these two find their groove while keeping it from Garrett was fun. They really opened up to each other about their pasts and found comfort in their company. When they think they’re about to break, they come back stronger.

The dedication says, "The plot has left the chat...okay there's a little, but still"
Xoxo CC"no plot on this one,"Monroe
And let me tell ya, she's right.
This was a fast-paced enemies to allies to lovers. With amazing character building and so much spice 🌶🌶 and yes, there was an actual plot, and it was very heart warming ♥️ I loved the plus size FMC and the delicious MMC

If you want a quick read with love and hate and a jacob's ladder, I highly recommend this one!

I absolutely loved every second of this book! I mean, in all honesty, who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers? The banter between Lincoln and Indigo had me laughing. Their chemistry jumps off the pages and makes you actually feel what the characters are feeling. I am in love with the setting of the story and it has me wishing I could take a vacation there! C.C., as always I love you writing! You are PHENOMENAL!

If you're looking for a smoking hot read WITH heart look no further CC Monroe came through with this.
A gorgeous plus size fmc with Endometriosis and PCOS representation, a hunky biker who not only is a reader but reads up on your health conditions while rubbing your feet/legs? IN LOVEEEE.
This book has grief rep which is so beautifully worked on throughout. A sneaky little romance with brother's best friend, enemies to lovers, coastal summer vibes. As advertised this is a high heat, low plot read!

Thank you so much to CC Monroe for this amazing ARC opportunity!

Oh my word! This book had me from the Go!

CC Monroe hit it out of the park with this one! Linc was everything I would imagine a biker crush to be and then some. The way he absolutely WORSHIPS Indy whether it was together or from a distance, as a curvy girl this made me feel ALL the FEELS.

Enemies to lovers, brother’s best friend, forbidden love this book had it all. The lust, the angst, the snarky remarks, but once that spice hit *chef’s kiss*. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.

another hit

It wouldn’t be a CC Monroe book if I didn’t have tears streaming down my face (in the best possible way). I will be thinking about Indy and Linc for the foreseeable future. The enemies to lovers aspect was done so well! I also thoroughly enjoyed the relationship between Indy and Garrett. I 10000000/10 recommend reading this and any other book by CC Monroe

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

I have several books by CC Monroe on my TBR but this was my first read…it definitely won’t be my last…I love that she writes her characters like us…they don’t always have to be a perfect size 0….they have flaws & imperfections like I do…I loved that I could see my size self in Indigo
Indigo, Garrett & Lincoln had all dealt with loss in their life….Lincoln technically dealt with the loss of two sets of parents…his bff Garrett parents took him in when he was a teen…then tragedy strikes again…he stayed by his friend’s side….not bailing out when it felt like everyone else did
Indigo didn’t really know how to handle her emotions…she did what most of us do best when we get overwhelmed….she ran….not far but far enough that she didn’t make the drive home very often…then one summer things changed….a longer visit to her brother & she was no longer the pesky little sister…Lincoln saw her as the woman she was growing up to be….but how do we get past bro code???
This book came with several lessons….the main one being what is good for some may not be for everyone…oh & of course as always keeping something from someone to not hurt there feelings is not always for the best

If these tropes appeal to you
🩵brothers best friend
💜best friends little sister
🩵small town
💜summer love
🩵plus sized FMC

Garrett really is the best brother even when they fight i loved him he just needed his sister 🥹
the way Lincoln instantly rushed to Indy when he knew she was in trouble just made me melt he’s so sweet
Indy just wanted to help her brother & show him there’s more & in the process figuring things out about herself was such a good way to learn how not okay she really was

thank you CC Monroe for the ARC!
