Several grammatical errors throughout, plus the "magical love" tag on the cover is misleading. It's also not my preferred genre (modern day). But for all that, it wasn't terrible. It does have scenes of abuse and violence, with the theme of domestic violence throughout; also a bit of philosophical discussion between characters about the ethics/morality of helping women disappear (this could have been fleshed out some more, for a more in-depth discussion). The so-called "magic" is more supernatural than magical, as ghosts of single women from the past help guide women in the present to accepting new love - whether it's after a tragic loss, abuse, or pride. Also some "skinny shaming," as the book was written in 2000 and feminisim was trying to buck the too-skinny trend in women's beauty.
Wouldn't read again or recommend - but it wasn't the worst "romance" I've read.
PLOT
Lynn Powell wants nothing more than to hide from her abusive ex-husband after she survived his murder attempt. She lives off the grid in Texas, helping one or two women who are also attempting to escape abuse. Lynn doesn't know how these women find her - Lynn certainly isn't advertising - but it gives her a measure of peace knowing she can help others who are in situations she knows all too well. Lynn uses her time crafting beautiful quilts, living an austere life on her quiet lands.
All this changes when lawyer-turned-homebuilder Grant Major has to go in search of his wild (and often lost) younger sister Betsy. Lynn doesn't normally help women in Betsy's situation, but against her better judgment, it brings the tall and irritated Grant right to her secluded hideaway.
What happens when Grant's arrival also brings Lynn's nightmare back to life? Will Lynn ever be free from her abusive ex and ready to trust and love another man again?

Very engaging because once the s**t hit the fan, I had to stay up all night reading to finish. Likeable characters in difficult situations.
