Jason Robinson began playing full-time rugby at the age of 16 with Wigan Warriors, the most successful club in Rugby League at the time. He made the transition to Rugby Union with Sale Sharks in 2000 and was fast-tracked to the England squad. His speed, unpredictability and charisma has ensured that he is now widely acknowledged as one of the most exciting players in the world. His extraordinary turnaround from hard-drinking, deeply troubled teenager to born again Christian and dedicated family man makes his story all the more intriguing. Fully updated with all the drama and excitement of the 2003 Rugby World Cup, in which Jason was a crucial and inspiring team member, this edition includes a player's account of England's triumphant victory in the final against Australia.
An open, honest and frank account of parts of his life that have contributed to shaping the person that he became. Not only is a lot of his story extremely personal, but it opens him up to criticism. Yet he has done this in what would appear to be a way to inspire others. Can't argue with that
A very honest and enjoyable read. My only criticism would be that the time line comes to a rather abrupt end after the 2003 six nations grand slam so doesn't include the incredible world Cup from the same year. Still a must read for anyone that enjoys the game. He talks about his religion in a very upfront but not at all preachy way.
More interesting than many of the other autobiographies by England's World Cup Winning Team and other rugby players, as Jason Robinson has a story to tell other than posh boy, posh school, rugby player. Jason is from the wrong side of the tracks and became a successful rugby league international before turning to rugby union. A hard drinker with problems mounting off the pitch, he got the girl, girl found god, lost the girl, he found god, got the girl back, won the world cup and lives happily ever after.
