I liked this more than I thought I would.

I read the previous Venom run by Al Ewing, who is a great writer, but I didn't care that much about the time travel and symbiote lore. This All-New Venom, at least at first, was much more like a superhero comic about fighting supervillains and that worked for me. It was also a big mystery at first with who Venom was, but once that mystery was revealed it became less interesting.

Like the new mainline Amazing Spider-Man series, I find a lot of these all-new number ones start out strong with both bold ideas and a classic return to form... and then eventually it gets bogged down by continuity. The stories become so tied down by the mass of events you're supposed to know about that happened before. MJ and Jackpot, Flash Thompson an Anti Venom, all the things Rick Jones has been up to, etc. I enjoyed the good ol fights with MODOK and Dr Octopus more.

Al Ewing using his incredible writing talents for honestly a one-note character like Venom does make this as good as it can get. Even the symbiote itself becomes a well rounded character (better be, with all those years and years of backstory you're also supposed to know...)

Lastly, amazing art by Carlos Gomez. Mostly this is what I like about the latest from Marvel, surprisingly worth reading.

This was such a fun read! I've been a fan of Venom since the 90s, and after years and years of 'everyone's been Venom' I was honestly starting to get a little tired of it all. But there's something about this run that I really find interesting.

The first half of the book being a 'who-is-it' was a lot of fun, and once it's revealed who it is, I found that more interesting than anything I've read in the Venom-verse in a VERY long time. I'm more than excited to see where this book continues on with the mainline Venom title, and how these characters grow.

This was actually a pretty fun read!

I like the build up of who it could be and the 4 suspects and how they interact and the new Venom having to fight Madame masque and AIM and the issues alternating around that and love the big reveal and all too. The story of Madame masque was fun and she was so brutal here and Ewing writes her as dangerous and killing people like crazy and then there is MODOK who was hilarious but when he gets to destruction he is dangerous!

Obviously the main thrust of the volume is who the new VENOM could be and we see all the 4 suspects and then obv Dylan being the investigator and he actually has a great talk with the symbiote in one issue and I love how ewing wrote it, its super emotional for sure but you see the symbiote always looking out for its kid and then finally seeing that end fight and who SLEEPER is too, that was fun and how it ends.

Definitely recommend it and the art was so good really! Each page is so worth the price!

Much like the way I did with Donny Cates' ultimately triumphant run on this character, I went into this one with much trepidation.
Unlike what I experienced reading Cates' run, I found myself pretty disappointed.

I think there's a lot of promise to be had here, but there was also far more promise in what was the Venom War and the overall Meridius storyline, and I just don't feel as though those aspects met conclusions that warranted such a sudden shift. I also do not appreciate such a blatantly obvious, yet obnoxiously arrogant fake out in the reveal of the All-New Venom's identity. Immediately, I knew it would not be one of the four suspects laid out to us, and immediately I knew this would be crap as far as mysteries go.
It's not a bad comic by far, Ewing is a good enough writer to not allow that to happen, and I do look forward to seeing what comes of this. But as far as starts go, this one just leaves a lot to be desired.

This was such a wild read!

I like how it starts with the reveal of this new venom and the 4 suspects between Luke, Robbie, Rick and Whitney and like who it can be and the initial issues pretty much focus on that and I love how it happens! I like the chase of who it could be and then we have SCAR hunting Venom and like who its made of and Ripcord has a personal grudge against this person and you feel that plus other villains he fights and the one with MODOK was funny and the sleeper agent of it all, I love the whole sequence and the mystery and the fights and also how MM is becoming a big villain in the run for VENOM!

Also love the reveal it was MJ and how she came to be venom and there's slight retcons and all tha but the explanation is neat and it was a divisive time in the fandom with this reveal but there always it and we don't get much focus on MJ in the next 5 issues as I thought but the one with Anti-venom aka flash was cool like the talks and all and then finally the fight vs SCAR and how they rescue Toxin and Sleeper, it made for some cool moments and like you can see the heroic side of Veno-MJ! I like how the battle goes on and the back and forth between Otto and Venom and you see how both have changed with their battles vs Spidey!

Overall its fun and the ending is controversial but will make many fans happy.. this volume is way better than the previous run which had too much going on with Meiridus and all and this one is more grounded and focused on the characters and the drama between them and maybe thats why its beteer and the art is pretty good too!! Maybe read it if you like MJ or like reading venom sequentially!

Problem #1 is that the who-is-venom was spoiled months and months and months ago.

Problem #2 is that this just isn't that interesting of a book. The snipe hunt for Venom's identity might have been good, even knowing the answer, but Ewing doesn't seem to be trying that hard here.

The fight with federal officials get really old really quickly.

The only particularly interesting bits are the interactions between MJ and Dylan, and they're generally dragged down by the wet rag named Paul that's been haunting the Spider comics for years now.

And then we get lots of sudden clean-up in the last issue obviously due to cancellation ... then a to-be-continued!?

What a waste of an hour's time.

After the events of Venom War, Al Ewing revitalizes the Venom brand once more with a new twist, new supporting characters, and a new set of villains led by a familiar face, plus a very reliable artist in Carlos Gomez, who draws all 10 issues without a break.

Love it or hate it, the twist here makes for compelling reading, and the way the mystery unfolds across the first five issues is well done, even if the ultimate reveal of 'none of the above' is a bit irritating. Ewing makes it work though, and the second half of the book digs into the truth of the matter while tying back to current continuity in a way that Ewing should patent at this point.

the story is definitely weaker than the meridius saga. too cute with 'who is venom '. good for a first read but definitely wont hold up as an evergreen/re read. the art is fantastic by Gomez and d'armata, however Gomez seems terrible supporting ICE and the fascist regime.

I like how madame masque was becoming a venom/mj villain, but i guess the iron man relaunch stuffed up those plans.

love thay ewing leans into the Paul hate with jokes. however Paul is looking good here. the venom redesign looks good too. I appreciate that ewing was using mayor cage. no one else does, as well as giving Robbie Robertson some screen time.

This is what happens when you write SEVERAL characters into a corner and need to make them interesting again...

10 issues to figure out who Venom has bonded to now after the whole Venom War
Is it?:
- Madame Masque - Iron Man villain/ex-girlfriend
- Robbie Robertson - son is married to the New Beetle; works/worked @ Daily Bugle
- Rick Jones - sidekick extraordinaire; recently dead and glowed green
- Luke Cage - mayor of New York City during all these crises; superhero)

Keeping all things connected to Spider-Man, they added a character that's been crapped on more than most.

Mary Jane... e
Can't have her back with Peter Parker, so they make up a mystical energy source that gets converted into a slot machine gauntlet. Spin the wheel, get a new powerset. Instant superhero!

What could go wrong? Lots.
---------
The list of characters they use that were cast off from Spidert-Man titles is pretty big. This tries to push Mary Jane as a hero REALLY hard. They tried already when they made her Jackpot. This isn't much better.

Who is? Who cares
After everything that world built in Venom the last few years, this direction craps on all that. give us four lame possible NEW Venoms and then say no, it's someone even more lame. Not the swerve they think it is.

the hate this one's gotten online is completely unfounded! fun, action packed with a really great roster of heroes and villains, all of whom get plenty to do. Flash is great, Doc Ock and Madame Masque are great and the Venom MJ pairing is actually really enjoyable to read.

Wasn't planning to read this, but it pulled me in. Was getting a little tired of Ewing's Venom. But it's pretty fun. Even if (maybe because) it's a bit stupid.
