Fae Romance #3

Of Fire and Sacrifice

Rate this book
Of Fire and Sacrifice is the third book in The Fae Romance a series of interconnected standalones. It can be read independently of the first two books.

Devorah
I spent my entire life training to be queen. Friendships, romance, even the use of my magic, have gone by the wayside while I learned to rule The Summer Court. Then, my mother got a rare disease that affected her memory, and I had to take on her duties while also hiding her illness. I was about to buckle under the pressure…until I hired Ari.

Ari isn’t just my advisor, he became my best friend, the person I couldn’t wait to see in the morning, and the last one I spoke to before bed. He soothes my anxiety, makes me laugh, and when we touch…

Any attraction I feel toward him is wildly inappropriate. But as our relationship grows, it becomes harder and harder to hide from the feelings he’s stirred in me—consequences be damned.

Ari
I spent my entire life training to be her advisor, but no amount of training could have prepared me for these feelings. Devorah isn’t just beautiful, she’s brilliant and strong and, even though it’s wrong, I’m head over heels for her.

But the dream of being with Devorah dies alongside her mother. The stipulations of ascension are she needs to marry someone of royal blood to become queen. And that’s not me.

So, it doesn’t matter that Devorah is the one for me—she’ll never be mine.

Of Fire and Sacrifice is a "right person-wrong time," angsty romance in the Fae Romance Series. It can be read as a standalone, but may contain mild spoilers for the first book in the series. Ages 18+

Marianne A. Scott has been writing since she was a kid. When she was always singing, those stories appeared in song form, when she majored in acting, they appeared as screenplays, but novels and short stories were what she returned to when inspiration struck. Each and every story was driven by characters and love, and, most of the time, the hope that there was something fantastical about this world that us humans just haven't discovered yet.

When not writing, you can find her with her Kindle and a latte, sitting opposite her husband in their New Jersey home. In her other life, she teaches tiny humans how to sing, passing along her love of musical theater to the next generation.

Gasp!! Marianne A. Scott has done it once again with her amazing writing! I thought nothing could get better than Puck! But she made me fall head over heals with Ari 🥰

This book, my gosh, where do I even start. The writing is so exquisite and the world is so vastly vivid and alive. This book is fast paced (as you would expect from a standalone), teeming with some heart pounding action and packed with courtly intrigue, morally grey characters, fantastic banter and a whole lot of delicious spice. I mean, we get a nice little buildup of tension and angst, but boy does it hit magnificently in the end. I adore each and every FMC Marianne writes. The way she builds them up into such strong badass women is amazing!

I’m absolutely in awe of the found family that Marianne has created here. They are so supportive of each other always have each other’s backs. And, Radley, how can I not single him out. You can always count on him, when things got tough, to lighten the mood with his sassy quips. I am praying that the next book in this series involves him because I seriously need an entire book with his sassy half baked self.

Of Fire and Sacrifice is book 3 in her Fae Romance series. Each book can, unequivocally, be read on their own. Although I do recommend that you start with book 1 as there is a lot of character crossover between the books with the “second generation” cast of characters. If you want even more backstory, then I suggest going all the way back to the Made From Magic series.

Ahhh so happy to read another book in this series. Was a great read for me while my baby is in NICU.
I will say this is my first four star from the authors. I just didn’t feel as connected to these characters as normal but I still really enjoyed this book. I am super excited to see which book is next and I love getting to know the second generation more in each book.

great imagery

This story really keeps you wanting more! There are times I don’t see what is about to happen and I can’t put it down! Love this storyline and how it connects to the other books yet you don’t have to remember or even know the other stories to get into this one fully.

Marianne A. Scott has once again delivered a powerful and emotionally charged romance with Of Fire and Sacrifice, the third standalone in her interconnected The Fae Romance series. This book plunges readers into a world of intricate Fae politics and heartfelt dilemmas, proving that sometimes the greatest sacrifices are made for love, and sometimes for duty.

At its core, Of Fire and Sacrifice tells the story of Devorah, a Fae princess burdened by the immense responsibility of her impending queenship and the secret illness of her mother. Her life has been one of rigorous training and sacrifice, with no room for personal desires. That is, until Ari, her newly appointed advisor, enters her life. What begins as a professional relationship quickly blossoms into a deep friendship, igniting an undeniable attraction that threatens to shatter the carefully constructed walls around Devorah's heart. Ari, equally smitten, grapples with the devastating reality that their love is forbidden by the ancient laws of ascension, which demand Devorah marry a royal. It's a classic "right person-wrong time" scenario, promising a deeply angsty and emotionally resonant journey.

My initial reaction to Of Fire and Sacrifice was a resounding "wow." This book truly destroyed me in the best possible way, leaving me with all the feels. Devorah is an incredibly relatable and compelling character. Her struggle with people-pleasing and her willingness to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her obligations resonated deeply. As someone who understands the complexities of caring for a parent with memory loss, Devorah's interactions with her mother were priceless, heartbreaking, yet incredibly touching. The tension and banter between Devorah and Ari were absolutely addictive—I was feral for it! Their dynamic is a masterclass in building sexual tension, making every forbidden glance and touch feel significant.

The pacing of the story is perfectly balanced, weaving together moments of intense emotion with action-packed sequences and steamy spice. Marianne A. Scott expertly crafts a narrative that keeps you turning pages, eager to see how Devorah and Ari navigate their impossible situation. And Ari? He's everything you could possibly want in a romantic lead—strong, supportive, and utterly devoted.

Of Fire and Sacrifice is a testament to Marianne A. Scott's talent for crafting deeply moving and captivating stories. It's a must-read for anyone who loves angsty, high-stakes romance with unforgettable characters and a powerful emotional core.

4.5/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️

I was hooked! This is the third book in the series, and while it can be a standalone, you get so much of the other characters that the experience will have so much more depth if you read the other books first.

I loved reading about Ari and Deborah and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this forbidden romance would end up with an HEA! Deborah is the princess of the Summer Court, and her mother is fading so she will have to take over as Queen soon. Ari is her personal advisor, so it is forbidden to have any relationship with her beyond professional. But they have become best friends (who flirt and tease a lot), and they both just push down their feelings and try to ignore the obvious attraction. They really had some obstacles to overcome to be together, and at times I was wondering how they were going to get there, but I loved the resolution!

This is a slow burn, and not as spicy as the other books in the series, but it was worth the build up! I loved Ari too, he was down bad and was willing to sacrifice his happiness to support her and be there for her how ever he could. And Deborah was strong while dealing with so much, but around Ari, she didn’t have to be.

I don’t want to say too much about the plot, because it is kinda hard not to spoil it… But just know we get lots of yearning, tension, “we can’t be together” moments, and him standing aside when she might have to have an arranged marriage to someone else, really giving us the emotional run around WHICH I ATE UP!

I love this whole world and can’t wait to see who the next book is about! Thank you for letting me read it early Marianne!!

“We need to take care of the queen.”

Despite being a princess, Devorah’s life is anything but cruisy. As the heir apparent to the throne of the Summer Court, she has to deal with a lot - she’s basically running the Court as her mother is unwell. The Queen is fading, sort of like the fae version of dementia, and it’s causing issues as devorah tries to hide her mother’s illness from the other power-hungry fae leaders. When her mother finally passes away, she’s hit with a stipulation in the succession - she needs to marry someone with royal blood before she can take the throne, or the throne passes to her brother.

One problem - she’s in love with Ari, her advisor, and not of royal blood. Devorah and Ari have to fight their attraction to each other, and find Devorah a husband so she can take her rightful place as Queen of the Summer Court. They come up against so much - including battles with other courts and dissension within their own friend group.

The devotion Ari has for Devorah was gorgeous. He just wants her to be happy, and if that means it is with someone else, then he’ll step aside - he’d hate it, but he’d do it to stay in her life. That sacrifice is … heartbreaking.

This was a wonderful read, I totally devoured it. I loved seeing all the other characters from the other fae romance stories and new characters too!

Thank you so much Marianne for giving me the opportunity to read and review this story!

Marianne A. Scott has done it again—and I’m completely hooked on 𝐎𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (honestly, the entire 𝐅𝐚𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 has me in a chokehold).

Devorah and Ari absolutely wrecked me. Their friendship? Heartfelt. Their loyalty? Unshakable. The ANGST? Off the charts. These two make soul-crushing sacrifices that had me clutching my chest. They’re both so selfless—always putting others first, no matter the pain it costs them. And when they finally gave in to that undeniable pull between them? Instant puddle. I was gone.

The world is lush and vividly imagined, with dynamic, multi-layered characters who breathe so much life into the story. The found family vibe with the second generation? Perfection. And Radley—oh Radley—I’m begging for his book next. ILYSM.

The twists, schemes, and jaw-dropping revelations kept me absolutely riveted. And that ending? I was straight-up shouting with joy.

If you haven’t picked up this series yet, 𝗗𝗢 𝗜𝗧. Each book works as a standalone, but reading them in order brings an emotional depth that hits so much harder. Highly, highly recommend!

Special thanks to the author for the gifted copy ❤️

This is a can be read as a standalone but is the 3rd book in the Fae Romance series by Marianne A Scott.

We’ve got magic, banter/ forbidden love/ arranged semi forced marriage our MMC has WINGS I’ll repeat that ladies he’s has Wings. 😘

Our Girl Dev the FMC is quite literally carrying the weight of a whole fae court on her shoulders, sick parent, enemies with in her court trying to undermine her at every turn and force her to take actions she doesn’t won’t to! will she cave or will she find her power with the help of Ari Aka little Hershel our MMC our girl finds solace, friendship, protection. We go on a journey with dev as she discover her worth and finds her power it’s not with out its dangers and a few twist and turns but when Devorah see’s what a force she can be well it’s a chefs 💋 moment. I was kicking my feet my kindle almost went flying while I celebrated her strength oh Let’s not forget the Oreo addiction 😂 who doesn’t love Oreos even fae can’t eat just one!

I wish I could give this one higher than 5 stars!

Marianne A Scott never fails to bring a book to life! This one though had my heart in a grip for most of the book.

All our favorite characters are back in full swing in this one and I promise they are even better!

I loved this new side of Devorah! I always felt she had a stick up her booty. I knew her life had been anything but easy, but to get to read about it wow! And honestly she’s full of fire and sass! Don’t let the other books fool you! Oh and Ari, book boyfriend! I don’t think he could have been written any better!

Now if you know Scott you know her books are anything but cozy. So prepare to yell and throw some tantrums. She does not hold back in this one. I for one love passion in her writing it keeps me on the edge of my seat.

I don’t feel this is one of my top favorites. These books get better and better with each couple. I absolutely loved Devorah and Ari’s relationship! The chemistry is phenomenal and top notch! I highly recommend grabbing this one.

If there’s one thing Marianne can do it’s write a badass FMC that we can all get behind and this book is further proof. I adore the way she’s written and I honestly fell in love with her so fast. Devorah

If there’s one thing Marianna can do is write a fast paced romantasy that has you from the first chapter and this book is no different. The world building is stunning, the action edge of your seat and the spice is full of tension.

Devorah is such a badass FMC who will do anything required to secure her accencion to the throne, even against her own heart.

Ari is her loyal advisor.. to a fault and he will do anything in his power to ensure he kneels before his queen, even if he has to lock his heart away to do it.

but when the path they’re walking suddenly changes directions.. will they face it together or will their world crumble around them both.

This book is full of amazing side characters, witty banter, found family friendships, edge of your seat tension and fast paced action that’ll have you hooked.

I have been waiting for this book from the moment I finished book number 2 and boy oh boy was it worth the wait!!!

This book has everything!! It has suspense, it has action, it has heartbreak, it has spice, it has humor and anything else you could possibly want! We get to spend some time with the second generation which is always fun and it is heartwarming to see them rally around each other.
My heart literally hurt however at the scene on the island with Devorah, Eldoris and their mum. Marianne did an incredible job of really making you feel what they were going through!

If I had to give a criticism it would be that there wasn’t enough spice in this book but I blame Marianne for that, she is just too good at writing spicy scenes lol.

I can’t wait to see what Marianne has in store for us next. I’d love to see dedicated books for Radley and Hades in the future!

Of Fire and Sacrifice is the third book in the Fae Romance series. You do not need to read the first two to enjoy this one but it will not hurt. Devorah and Ari are wonderful characters you will enjoy getting to know better. The plot is very well thought out and executed. Some of the subject matter is sensitive (like dementia and death of a loved one), but Marianne handles it with sensitivity.
Marianne A. Scott is an extremely talented writer and I strongly recommend all three of the books in this series:
Of Ice and Heartbreak (Fae Romance, #1)
Of Vines and Rivals (Fae Romance, #2)
Of Fire and Sacrifice (Fae Romance, #3)
I have 7 books by her (this series and the Made from Magic series) and if I can find any more I will get them as well.

This is the 3rd book in a series of inter-connected stand aliens. It’s not a must to read the other 2 but there a few small appearances but it doesn’t detract from the story.
Dev is to be queen very soon but has given her heart to someone she shouldn’t have, her court advisor- Ari. Dev and Ari are unable to marry. Even when Dev becomes queen there are stipulations that make her relationship with Ari even more forbidden. To her. Ari only wants to protect and serve Dev but there is steep cost for that future.

I didn’t think anyone could top Puck as a book boyfriend but Ari is right up there. He is sweet and has golden retriever energy.

This book has all the drama, political intrigue and of course a forbidden romance that keeps you guessing. This books doesn’t disappoint!

My Heart…..it feels like it is in pieces. And then slowly stitched back together. This book had me go through so many emotions! I was laughing (especially when a certain someone was glamoured), I was balling, I was angry, just an overall gripping story I could not put down!

Love the banter, I AM IN LOVE WITH ARI…OMG He’s amazing 🤤!! I honestly love the anxiety rep, it is so real and raw and it made me feel seen. Every one of these books and couples get better and better! I loved Devorah and Ari’s book so much!!! I don’t know if I have a favourite couple or not, they all have such amazing and gripping stories. Highly recommend this series. I’m hoping to have a certain outgoing prince have his story next 😉!!

Damn, Marianne! Back at it again with the bangers!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though it RIPPED MY HEART OUT OF MY CHEST MARIANNE HOW COULD YOU???

All jokes aside, this book was great! I loved Devorah and Ari. The plot was well thought out, and I LOVED Devorah's badass moment at the end! Marianne A Scott handled some very intense subjects, including dementia and the death of a family member, very well. I literally cried almost the entire time I was reading. I also loved the friendships and found family we got to see with the Second Generation.

If you love fae romance, pining, and love conquering all, I highly recommend this book.

This is a review based on my ARC.

First off, this book was incredibly easy to get sucked into. I didn’t want to put it down. I finished the last 25% today while cooking dinner and doing laundry.

Devorah is a kick ass female MC who comes into her own through the course of the book. Ari, our male MC, gives her the space to do so (though still protective) and helps her confidence grow. There is a “touch her and die” aspect except reverse - touch him and die - as Devorah will go to any extreme to make sure the man she loves is safe. The book offers found family, arranged (almost) marriage, funny characters, and flawed MCs. Definitely a must read!

I absolutely love the way Marianne writes her MMC! And Ari is no exception! But let us not forget the true power in all of her books is a strong and developing FMC. I love that we get to learn so much about Dev and everything she goes thru behind the scenes in this book and how she comes into her own. While my heart broke at 50% thru, it was put back together to reach a happily ever after! We also get to see our other couples from the first 2 stand alones in the series as well as all our other world characters that make me never want to leave the world she creates for us! another brilliant hit!

For one, this definitely works as a standalone.

Events from previous books are mentioned but only briefly and not in a way that makes the reader feel like they missed something. I definitely recommend reading the other books in the series though. They're really good too.

I loved Devorrah and Ari's easy relationship. I kept hoping there would be a way for them to be together.

I loved getting to visit with the rest of the second generation and see their antics. I especially love Hades.

It's a fun romantasy with an HEA.

I love the world this author has created and the sense of found family and fated mates.

I didn’t connect as much with the characters in this one. I’m not sure why. It felt predictable in the middle until the ending where it picked back up. I loved seeing Devorah’s power emerge.

A man better than Puck?! I did t think that was possible but in walks Ari. Ari is the golden retriever Fae I didn’t know I needed In my life.

I love that this book has illnesses that are relatable to readers making the book feel so grounded while having all the typical court intrigue and magic elements any fantasy should have. One of my favorite 2025 reads so far.

The story of Devorah & Ari was thrilling and romantic. The book can be read as a standalone, but has more meaning when read with the others. It is always pleasant to read about a powerful female lead whose power is grown and developed by her friends and the man she finally acknowledges as the love of her life!

Absolutely fantastic standalone, however I do not regret doing a re read of the first two books in the series. Dev and Little Hershel (Ari) are just a simply amazing couple and the angst these two feel throughout the book was just *chefs kiss*. I can't wait to read (though will patiently wait) what Marianne A Scott comes up with next!

Marianne’s 3rd book is cute with some spice. Dev and Ari are just the cutest with their forbidden love story. Dev is the soon to be queen but is in love with her court advisor whom she is unable to marry. Once Dev has to be become queen it comes with some stipulations that make her relationship with Ari even more forbidden. Ari only wants to protect and serve Dev but he realizes that it comes at a cost, his happiness to be with his love.
