The Stolen Bride

Rate this book
Clover Deering is living her best life. Kind of. Maybe. Okay, so, not at all. The owner of Fur-Ever Pet Spa is deeply in debt and battling a temper that scares even herself. Things go from bad to catastrophe when a terrifying man claiming to be a berserker king demands an impossible force a rival royal to welcome evil into his heart. In exchange, he'll gift her with a prize she cannot resist-meeting the twin she never knew existed. The problem? King Viktor Endris isn't just scary, he's downright feral.

When captured by Viktor, Clover enacts her own plan. Tame the unhinged warrior, turn him into an ally, and use him to rescue her sister. Not an easy task as Viktor is at war with ferocious turul-shifters, talks to an invisible friend and flips from controlled to chaos in an instant. As their undeniable connection deepens, she discovers a heartbreaking truth. Falling for her is Viktor's only path to ruin. Yet without his downfall, her twin's fate is sealed. The worst part? Clover just might be falling for him, too. But in the end, only one can survive. Her man, or her sister.

I had a tough time with this and kept putting off listening to it. It was hard to follow in places and I didn’t love the berserker thing. Also the romantic development was clunky.

You know what? I like this one more than The Wrong Bride. This book did everything better than the first book.

Except, there is still that lack of smut. Which I've made peace with. Probably because this book served the chemistry better, even without the sexual intimacy. I like it. That they get to know each other more before jumping into bed too soon. Plus, the idea that we have an almost on-the-brink-of-madness hero with the only girl who could calm him down is just the perfect plot to have, really. Add the forced proximity trope, well, that's chef's kisses for me.

All in all, excited to see what happens next in this new series. I'm officially hooked!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“The world will end, but our love & peace will endure.”

Another fun addition to the series!!
*Sad we didn’t get to see our previous couple, but this was still a good time 🤍

I esp loved the take on female Berserkers- Clove was such a mood & even though we barely got much time w/ Juniper, her personality was already a fave!!
*I have to say, I still love Callen a bit more lol.

The plot twist at the end… Gagged. I saw it coming, but not the overall reveal!! That part did shock me. Overall, I enjoy this series & wonder if we’ll ever get one w/ all 9 Kings 👀 And maybe a continuation from our last story!!
Nina Yndis did an amazing job narrating this 🫶🏽

I really like this universe and the concept of the berserker and their fireband. From the first pages, I just fell in love with Clover, she’s exactly how I love my FMC, fierce, strong, resourceful and so stubborn. The interactions between Clover and Viktor are priceless, I wasn’t expecting laughing so much, but damn, it was just everything.

After being kidnapped and thrown away in another dimension with the only directive that she has to find the king, and help become evil, Clover finds a violent world where emotions run wild and the berserker king is mad as hell. Facing him and the choices that she must make to meet her long-lost twin sister, Clover has to navigate with the king's mood, the strange trance he sometimes falls into and survive this whole mess. Meanwhile, Viktor is so unhinged that everyone is scared of him, surprised he is when he literally stumbles on Clover, but that woman is more interesting than he first thought and he finds it difficult to stay far from her and reach his goal.

Lot of unexpected twists, lots of fun, lots of battle, I really devoured this book, such a smooth read and I’m curious about what and who will come next !

I received an ARC Copy of this book from the authors, this review is from my own thoughts 😍

I was given the opportunity to listen to the audio ARC of this book and did not even realize that it was Book 2 in the series until later. I rushed to Goodreads to see if I had read the first book - The Wrong Bride - and was surprised to realize that I had.

This audio book was narrated by Nina Yndis and I enjoyed listening to the story. The premise surrounds our FMC Clover Deering who is kidnapped and dropped into a different dimension with the instructions to find a certain King and make him turn evil. Piece of cake, right?

The MMC happens to be the Beserker King Viktor who just happens to be a bit mad. The story had many funny moments because the premise was truly zany. There are beserkers fighting against their beasts, shifters - who have given into their beasts and lots of prophecies thrown in for fun.

Clover and Viktor are thrown together and it is fun watching their relationship develop. It becomes even more interesting when we discover that there is more to Clover than we first thought. Throw in lost twin sisters and an evil goddess and things go from there.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC. This book will be out for publication on June 17, 2025.

The Stolen Bride is the second book in the Kings of Fury series by Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe. Just like the first installment, I absolutely loved this one as well. I found it hard to put down, and whenever I had to take care of real-life responsibilities, I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen next in The Stolen Bride.

The story is told solely by the heroine, Clover Deering, who is a delightful character to get to know. I appreciated her resilience as she navigates being kidnapped and brought to a world where she must deal with a grumpy berserker king named Victor Endris. The banter between Clover and Victor had me laughing out loud. This humorous dynamic is typical of Gena and Jill’s books, which is why I can’t get enough of either of these authors’ books.

The sweet romance between Clover and Victor develops slowly because Victor is a grumpy and stubborn berserker who struggles to accept that Clover might be his firebrand. Their relationship is complicated by outside interference. I don’t want to spoil the storyline, as it’s one that everyone should experience for themselves. Just know that you’ll embark on an adventure with these characters, who initially don’t trust each other.

I loved the world-building, storyline, and characters in this book, and I can’t wait for the next book. I’m eager to learn more about the berserkers and their romantic interests. No matter what, I know Gena and Jill will captivate me with their books; I can’t get enough of them.

Would I recommend his book/series? Yes. If you enjoy reading adventurous and sweet paranormal romance stories about berserkers, then check out this series by Gena and Jill.

What to Expect:
✔️Enemies to Lovers
✔️Grumpy/Sunshine
✔️Fated Mates

Okay, it’s official. I love these berserkers, and I need a book for the whole lot of them asap. Did I love Viktor as much as the ultra-broody Callen? No, but Viktor definitely made me fall for him, despite how often I questioned his sanity.

I knew I’d love this book right from the very beginning, as Gena and Jill worked little references to their Jane Ladling series right into the very first chapter. If you haven’t read that series, you’re going to miss out on several cute references in both books in this series so far, and I can only imagine how both authors will work Jane into the rest of this series. I love that not only does Jane appear in numerous references in this series, but the writing itself is very akin to the writing style of their cozy mystery series. The leading ladies in the Kings of Fury series have been very flippant in regards to their berserker kings power and authority, and the writing style matches that attitude. It’s funny and lighthearted, and I constantly find myself smiling my way through any and all types of scenes.

Clover was a very different kind of character from Elle in the first book, and I loved all these unexpected characteristics so early in a series. Clover was a perfect foil to both Viktor and Elle, hot-tempered enough to match Viktor’s moods while proving that berserkers don’t have any one type of love interest.

The Stolen Bride has already proven that Gena and Jill aren’t just following some formulaic plot structure for this series. Clover and Viktor’s romance takes us to the wilds of an alternate dimension, all while physically and mentally battling everything from fellow berserkers, goddesses, and fate. I loved their adventure as they defeated enemies and found solace in each other.

Clover was quirky and had a temper, Viktor was on the edge of madness, and I loved how they played off of each other. I was engaged with their romance from first meeting until happily ever after. And the added appearances of Malachi and Elle (via a manual on berserkers, of course) made this a wonderful continuation of the Kings of Fury series.

I had fun listening to this audio ARC. As always, Gena and Jill are bringing lighthearted fantasy energy.

Berserker is a new one for me, and I loved the soulmates' moments. In all this was an easy one sitting read with all your classic clichés (which we love to see).

Vibes readers circle here. I'll be tuning in again, I'm sure.

Berserker lore to get lost in!

I'm truly enjoying this creative twist of beserker/sentinels battling their beasts rage and shifters who succumbed to theirs...while hoping to find their firebrand, the one who can calm them.

The story of Viktor and Clover is full of action, humor, Alpha male and strong heroine attraction as they grow individually and as a couple...while the series lore grows and evolves brings them to a resolution but hints towards more to come.

Fun but the relationship wasn’t my favorite, these are short books so there’s no much development with the main couple. Could be better, but I finished it quickly on the beach.

I received an advanced copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Clover is a dog groomer who gets kidnapped and dropped into the realm of a Berserker King. She just so happens to have Berserker (aka sentinel) lineage and a missing twin? If she works with Viktor to defeat his former best friend turned enemy, she can find out more about her history. Viktor has an invisible evil lady whispering in his ear and spends half his time pulling his hair out due to her machinations. Viktor is really possessive and growly but also a little bit insane, and Clover keeps waffling about whether or not she likes him (spoiler: she does). They're a perfect match.

I would like to know more about the politics and history of the shifters and berserkers and whatever else exists in this universe because they all come from a fallen star I guess? Clover isn't my favorite character, but it's mostly because she's one of those with a constant running monologue and that is a personal dislike. I think the basis of this story is cool, and while nothing really went according to plan, it wasn't terribly surprising. I think this is a good read for people who like fantasy-lite romance because there are fantasy elements, but other than turning into a berserker and some portal magic, it's not a ton of fantasy. These characters are adults but this felt like a YA novel to me. Not in a bad way, just that the lost twin, the back and forth over whether or not she likes the boy, and the dialogue felt a little more like what I've experienced in YA.

It was pretty easy to listen to, and the narrator did well. Although because I listened and didn't read this as a visual book, I spent a good bit of the first couple chapters thinking we were talking about 'turtle' shifters rather than 'turo (sp?) shifters because the sound in my car is a little wonky 😂

Thanks to Dreamscape Media for the audiobook!

After reading The Wrong Bride, I fell head over heels for the Kings of Fury series and couldn’t wait for more. So, naturally, when I heard about The Stolen Bride, I knew I had to get my greedy hands on it.

The Stolen Bride follows the story of Clover and Viktor. Clover is kinda, sorta living her best life as owner of a pet spa. However, she’s deeply in debt and has a hard-to-control temper. Her life goes from bad to worse when a terrifying stranger promises her what she’s always wanted in exchange for an impossible demand…

Overall, I thought this was a great read. I’ll be the first to admit that The Stolen Bride does start off slow. There is a lot of world to build and new characters to introduce. Unfortunately, it took me a while to really get into things. That being said, once I hit the 30% mark, I was hooked. Wild horses couldn’t stop me from reading. I was completely enraptured by Viktor and Clover. I loved their banter and the undeniable connection between them. The closer Viktor and Clover got, the more they realized that everything wasn’t as it seemed. Falling for Viktor was never part of the plan, but fate definitely had other plans in mind….

The Stolen Bride kept me on my toes with all the twists and turns. There was plenty of good action and swoon-worthy romance to leave readers devouring each and every word. Despite my issues with the pacing in the beginning, this book was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I can not wait to get my hands on The Fire Bride!

I was really hoping this would live up to the first book, but it just didn’t. Right from the start, it felt like we were dropped into the middle of the story without any buildup. There was no time to connect with the main character, and honestly, I didn’t feel anything but annoyed about her. The plot was all over the place. It felt like a bunch of different worlds and ideas were crammed together without enough explanation, and I was constantly confused about what was actually happening.

The FMC really didn’t work for me. She comes across as inconsistent, passive, and frustrating to follow. Her inner monologue was cheesy and overdone, and her actions rarely made sense. There were major moments that just didn’t go anywhere. Like, why introduce Malachi only to have him disappear for the majority of the book? And why doesn’t she ever go back to close down her business or tie up her old life? It made everything feel unfinished.

There were definitely ideas that could’ve worked. The setup had potential, and I was curious about how things would develop. But the pacing was uneven, the emotional beats didn’t land, and the ending didn’t feel earned. I wanted to like it, especially after loving the first book, but everything just kind of fell apart.

I loved the interactions between the Viktor, the grumpy berserker, and Clover, a quirky stubborn woman who uses tricks she learned from her pet spa to keep her reluctant ally calm. I didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did, but their witty banter and undeniable connection that they were trying to resist made for epic laughs and heart warming romance.
Lots of twists and turns and packed with action in a very unique universe filled with berserker rage and shifter that kept me turning the page. A very fun read! The best part is that even though The Stolen Bride is book two of the Kings of Fury series, it can be read as a standalone.
I listened to the audiobook and the narration was top-tier! It felt like I was listening to a movie or Broadway play. The voices were so animated and filled with emotion. And the different accents really made the characters, especially Viktor come alive. And the quick pace made you want to keep listening.

One word: hilarious.

This second installment in the Kings of Fury series doesn’t just hold its own—it grabs book one by the collar, winks, and struts confidently into the spotlight with a cocktail of chaos, charm, and cheeky brilliance. Yes, I said it: it’s better. Absolutely better.

We’re treated to another irresistibly sassy, unapologetically stubborn heroine whose internal monologue is anything but internal. Think stand-up comedian trapped in a warrior princess’s body—if sarcasm were a weapon, she’d be lethal. Pair her with a broody berserker king whose grumpy growls are softened only by a gloriously over-the-top Hungarian accent (audiobook listeners, you are in for a treat), and you’ve got the kind of slow-burn chemistry that sizzles... even without the steam. And yes—deep sigh—there’s no smut. None. Zilch. But you know what? The plot, the banter, and the delicious tension make you forget you even missed it. Almost.

Plot-wise, expect political intrigue, rival factions, unexpected betrayals, and just enough fantasy flair to keep your inner nerd humming. It’s fast-paced without being frantic, detailed without dragging, and threaded with that irreverent, wink-at-the-reader tone that has Showalter-Monroe written all over it.

In short: it’s funny, it’s fresh, and it’s fierce. Whether you're here for the banter, the battle, or just a grumpy king trying not to fall head over heels, The Stolen Bride delivers in royal style.

How did I go from begging for more in the series to not even wanting to finish this one? I loved the first one I gave it four stars! this one? Two stars feels generous. This is so vastly different from the first one. What the hell is going on in this world this is such a jumbled mess of collided worlds It was hard to distinguish what was happening. I don’t know if I’ve ever hated a female character as much as I hate this one. This narrator made so many extra noises, the gasping the ohs the ahs I hated it. Which is crazy because before I’ve given this narrator five stars for just the narration alone her narration in this was horrendous compared to the other work. I’ve heard from her, which leads me to believe it’s the writing. I hate leaving bad reviews for books I got on ARCS but this thing was just horrendous. Thank you to NetGalley for my audio arc. The Stolen Bride by Jill Monroe; Gena Showalter and narrated by Nina Yndis is book 2 in the Kings of Fury series.

I enjoyed books 1 and 2. It’s not a complicated series or a complicated world. The Stolen Bride leans more romance than spice. Clover and Viktor have cute banter. It’s a medium burn romance in a fantasy realm. Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe create an atmosphere that helps the reader/listener feel like they are in Clover and Viktor’s world.

I didn’t love the narration. Clover is supposed to have been raised in America. The POV is Clover’s. The narrator has what seems to be an Irish accent. It was off putting when the POV is American. This is not a book that requires heavy thinking. It’s a good time.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up!

(I avoided book one and went straight book two, well, because this looked more exciting… also American author/Scottish setting books just throw me—I know I’m weird.)

So review wise, to be honest, when I started this I had low expectations. I was certain that I would shelve ‘DNF’ at some point. Mainly because the initial pacing gave me whiplash, the main character felt ungrounded and completely nonchalant, the storyline erratic, almost parody-esque?—but that’s sort of why it worked, and the romance was good! I know, I’m not really selling it. But, ultimately.. it was fun, funny, and fast paced! A great one to get you out of a book slump.

I loved The Stolen Bride just as much as The Wrong Bride, and the best part? You don’t need to read the first to enjoy the second.

This book is packed with action, a unique take on fated mates, and a male lead who shows his devotion through actions rather than words. If you’re a fan of Once Upon a Broken Heart, you’ll love this dynamic.

The audiobook narrators were perfect, making the experience even more immersive. I devoured this in one sitting.

If you’re searching for a paranormal romance with smooth world-building and strong story development, this is the one to pick up.

Thank you for the ALC, all thoughts are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley for the gifted ALC in exchange for my honest review.

The Stolen Bride is the thrilling sequel to The Wrong Bride, continuing Gena Showalter’s enchanting and dangerous world of berserkers. This installment follows Clover, a fierce and determined heroine, as she’s forced to make an impossible choice: save her beloved sister or the powerful King Viktor Endris, a man she’s unexpectedly developing deep feelings for.

While this book can be read as a standalone, readers will get more out of the story if they're familiar with the lore and emotional groundwork laid in the first installment. There’s a noticeable uptick in action and intensity in The Stolen Bride, with high-stakes moments that keep the pages turning. However, the romance between Clover and Viktor feels slightly less developed than in the first book, as their relationship sometimes takes a back seat to the plot’s fast pace.

The audiobook, narrated by Nina Yndis, adds another layer of immersion. Her rich, expressive voice brings Clover’s strength and vulnerability to life, and she delivers the emotional highs and lows of the story with nuance and power. Yndis’s performance enhances the drama, making this a great listen for fans of high-stakes fantasy romance.

I love Clover and her completely unhinged, maybe slightly mad love interest, Victor!
I really enjoyed the alternate reality setting and how different our main characters are from those in the first book.
I loved how Clover gave as good as she got and didn't let a Berserker run over her or her opinions. I thought they complemented each other beautifully, and some amazing chemistry between them.
The plot was great, the banter perfect, and I found myself constantly smiling or laughing out loud at our MC's antics.
I'm really excited to see where this series is going to go next!

This is book 2 in the Kings of Fury series and they’re honestly great binge reads- lots of witty banter, forced proximity, and feral berserker men… all around a win. 🙂‍↕️ The major plot points towards the end (plot twists?) kind of confused me, but I kept rolling with the story and enjoyed it regardless. I just need some closure now regarding Valkara… and also Deco. 🫣

Until today keeping her bottles closed on her temper was Clover’s biggest daily accomplishment but today she was kidnapped, by a crazy actor who has a beyond crazy story. No problem just roll with it. Once she is thrust into a new place, with new obstacles, she decides to not only roll with it but to punch it out until she gets everything she wanted and everything she never knew she needed! I love the fiery heat of this book, the disturbing violence and the fabulous banter! Not to mention Vicktor! Hotness personified!!!

Great book and story! Suspenseful, fun, hilarious and hot, muscular berserker warriors.
MC's were great together. So darn funny too. MMC, a berserker king was constantly contradicting himself. Always threatening to kill someone but never following through.
FMC comes into the picture and falls for him. Eventually.
MC's and the berserkers fight the evil shifters while traveling to rescue FMC's twin sister being held by the shifter king.
Very clean book. Some kissing. No sex.
Nicely written. I couldn't put it down. Like all of Gena's books.

The world this story built was so cool. There were parallel realms, shifters/berserkers, alpha male, he falls first energy. Just everything. This a story to read if you want a fun, engaging read with great characters and fantasy storyline without too much painful world building.
The narrator did a good job overall, there were a few times where her accent came through and I almost wish she would have read the story in her accent instead of an American accent. I think it would have been a cool addition to the story but overall it was good.

While I did not read book 1 of this series, book 2, The Stolen Bride, is captivating. I received an audio version of the book to review and am thrilled to say it is a must read/listen! Strong characters and character development, amazing scenes, and enthralling action, all perfectly enhance the slowly developing love story between Clover and Victor. And who has read a good Berserker fantasy in recent decades? Not I. It will catch your attention and keep you hooked through every battle, every enemy, every unpredictable plot twist!

Book 2 in Kings of Fury by @genashowalter and @jillmonroebooks was adventurous, exciting and adorable!

It was great to see the book 1 cast again but I also loved how this book was its own story with its own HEA.

I loved the shocking moments (I will not spoil) because i definitely gasped!

It was a solid 4 star read for me!

I feel like everyone jumped on the vampire and a few other genre bandwagons after a hugely successful book or series. Showalter and Monroe are the ones leading the way by writing about berserkers. We'll see if it becomes a huge movement (I kind of doubt it) but regardless it's so refreshing that they're writing with a new type of characters instead of following an existing trend. To top that? The books are great fun with lots of action, characters, both good and evil, and even cute love stories.

Clover Deering doesn't know of her heritage other than it's Hungarian. Raised by adoptive parents she learned the language and all kinds of fantastical stories of berserkers. Fairy tales right? Just a little different from the ones most of us grow up with. Or so Clover believes until she's abducted one night from her home and wakes to find herself in the woods somewhere. She's soon aware of true evil, possible evil (Viktor), horrendous battles, the truth to all those outrageous stories she grew up with, about her own paranormal self, and what? a twin.

Viktor has a plan. He will wed the Valkara, who he believes is his firebrand. It's not long before Clover is confronted with a berserking Viktor and is able to calm him. What? Can Clover be his firebrand and not the Valkara? He's not quick to acknowledge he may have been wrong. Through his denials viscous battles rage on. The stakes are so high.

There is so much action and so many great characters to move this book along at a great pace. I recommend it!

Thanks to the authors for the ARC.

Clover is doing the best she can, with her dog spa. However she always feels like something is missing in her life.
When she wakes up in a different, far away place, she knows she needs to do what she must to survive.
She encounters the berserker king of the land, and seems to have a way of calming him.
This is a slow burn story. Yet it is filled with twists and turns, that will leave you breathless.
Thank you to Gena Showalter for the advanced copy.
