oooooh god, that ending! I was expecting it to have a different ending that was morbid and depressing, but shit I was so happy to see Kala get her "fuck you" moment. The suspense and thrill with a little bit of romance and spice was soo good! Sami brought a little bit of everything with this one. Can't wait to see what other creative pieces she comes out with next!

I did not see that twist coming at all. I thought I had ruined this book for myself because I skipped to the end to see page count half way through & saw a name titled as the chapter, happily to say I was wrong!
Kala moves out and lands her own house for a decent deal. She’s closer to work now and is excited to be on her own. But weird things begin happening throughout this house. Alexa randomly turning on, things moving on their own, and that basement? Kala refuses to go down there!
When, Kala returns to work she meets James who is new to town and a new teacher. Kala is very attracted to James. Cue a phone call with her best friend Winter and James over hears everything Kala says about him…. Making it interesting or awkward for Kala but hilarious! Things progress with the two of them.
But you do not only get Kala’s pov in this story. You get the pov of whatever is coming after Kala.
I won’t say more because I do not want to spoil the story. But the way this story ends is devastating and it was almost a complete twist for my mind cause I didn’t see that coming at all! Left me sitting there saying…. “What Did I Just Read?!”
I’d definitely classify this one as a paranormal with some light suspense.

Wow! What did I just read? My heart is broken!
The thrills in this book start from the beginning and doesn’t stop til the end. The way this story is written grabs you and doesn’t let go.
Sami sure can write an amazing nail biting thriller, that will leave you speechless! I have no other words. Brilliant writing!

This book was so good!!! I loved the banter between Kala and Winter! They were hilarious! When it wasn’t making me laugh, it was creeping me the hell out. Would not read alone at night. Excellent spooky read!

Ya'll?! This book was so fun to edit! I love the characterization and suspense and the fact I can see so much of Sami's personality in her characters. I found myself cackling at the lighter parts. an easy read that will keep your interest until the end.

I was lucky enough to arc read this book! Sami outdid herself in this! She was born to be a suspense writer! This entire book will have you wondering what is going on and what will happen next! I got goosebumps at one point from how detailed it was! Highly recommend if you like to be on your toes until the end!

There’s something about a good haunted-house story that immediately pulls me in, and He Who Waits in the Shadows definitely had me hooked. This was such a quick, fast-paced read that I found myself unable to put it down, especially as the tense and suspicious moments continued to pile up.
Kala was such a fun FMC with tons of personality. She exuded so much bravery, which I definitely applauded because if I were in her shoes, that house would’ve been gone. The romance was also so sweet, and I frequently found myself smiling and kicking my feet.
The ending absolutely broke my heart. Despite the warning that this was a HEA, I stubbornly held onto my denial, which somehow made the ending hurt even more. And as a new homeowner myself, I can confidently say this book did absolutely nothing to help my fear of being alone in the basement.
If you enjoy horror, hauntings, suspense, and a story that will give you the chills while still delivering a sweet romance, this is definitely one to pick up!

Sami has done it again! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and I’m so glad I did. First day I started reading it at night. Let’s just say to get up and walk around I had to turn on every single light in my house.
This is the perfect book to start during spooky season. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Sami did fantastic with this one! Want a book that'll give you chills? This'll do it! A young teacher finds a great deal on a house near her teaching job, but gets more than she bargained for! Looking forward to more suspense titles from her!

This was such an amazing book! There’s romance, spooky and scary scenes that creeped me out, and such a satisfying ending! It was perfect and I’m so glad I picked it up for October.
