My Kind of Slay

She’s the ice queen. He’s ready to party. But will one weekend melt every boundary between them?

Claire doesn’t have time for distractions. Especially ones with disarming smiles, annoyingly good hair, and a body sculpted by hours on the football field. Too bad the universe disagrees.
A freak snowstorm and an electrical mishap leave her stranded with Marshall, the TA she swore was off-limits. Suddenly the ice queen is steaming up the windows with the tempting TA.

But it’s only temporary. Or is it?

Thank you to Nikki Grant and Naughty Nook PR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

If you’ve been here for a while, you’ve seen me talk numerous times about how much I enjoy Nikki’s stories. I’m basically going to read anything she puts out at this point, lol. When I saw an opportunity to arc read again for her Christmas novella, I knew I had to jump on it, and I’m so glad that I did!

This novella was everything I’ve come to expect and love about Nikki’s writing. Claire was very much my kind of FMC, the kind that doesn’t take crap from anyone. I really enjoyed Marshall’s character and how wholesome he truly was. Nikki always makes her characters so relatable, and that’s one of the things I really do love about her books. Breck…we all know someone like Breck, who just won’t take no for an answer. He was a character I really loved to hate, and he deserved it, lol. Of course, this review would be amiss if I didn’t talk about the fun banter and crackling tension in this book. Nikki truly consistently writes these so well. I can’t forget about the spice, which was also done extremely well. One thing I enjoy about Nikki’s books is that she always has an excellent plot-to-spice ratio, and this book is no different. If you’re looking for a really fun and quick holiday read with some heat, definitely check this one out!
(And then go read the Makeup and Mochas series because I’m still in love with it and you should be too, lol).

"You're also not a Pringles can."~Claire😂

"...but you, my little mouse, are my kind of slay." ~Marshall😉

When I started reading this short novella I was a bit confused. For some reason, the synopsis on my Bookfunnel read about a character named Tilly Chance and she's marrying a close friend to avoid a threat.🤷🏻 I don't know why it was different.🤣🤣 Anyway. We are in college with Professor Williams' TAs Claire and Marshall, who get locked in the library during a power outage during a snowstorm.❄️❄️❄️ What's the worst that could happen? Or maybe the best?😏 Good thing these 2 were actually somewhat friends that turned that library into their own haven of exploration.💋💋💋 It became more. Marshall was nothing like frat boy Breck. Shady@$$ Breck.🤭 Marshall asked for consent, saw to Claire's needs, he's supportive of her, and he made his mouse lose control.🔥🫨🔥

Claire, she's blunt, a take charge, I don't have time for your nonsense type of character. A stickler for studying and rules. At times, a mean girl. Claire accept your frost and rudeness.hehe She's a little like Sheldon Cooper. And with Marshall she let her hair down and roared.😝

It's a fun and cute winter break story. I like Marshall. How caring he is. Claire she grew on me. Happy reading. *•>§<•*🩵🩵🩵☃️

👩🏻‍🏫🎇🧑‍🏫Thank you to Ms Grant and Naughty Nook PR for an early book. The opinions shared here are my own.🧑‍🏫🎇👩🏻‍🏫

I really enjoyed this fun novella! It was fast paced and very easy to read! I have enjoyed the Makeup and Mochas Series and couldn't wait to get started on this holiday novella.

I loved reading about Claire and Marshall's relationship. I absolutely adored how much Marshall cared for Claire and how much support he constantly gave her not only as a colleague but as someone he wanted to be in a relationship too. He doesn't push hard and doesn't put on an act to try to impress her either. Breck on the other hand 🤦‍♀️, this man can not take a hint for the life of him! Which honestly had me laughing quite a bit but still. Claire does her very best to be honest about her feelings with Breck, but he won't back down. I admired Claire's work ethic and how straight forward her character is, in addition to the some of the hilarious things that she would refer to like telling Marshall "You're also not a Pringles can". I can't even tell you how hard I laughed when I read that line.

Nikki Grant never disappoints! All of her characters are unique and very relatable. The banter and spice scenes are chef's kiss well planned out. I laughed out loud while reading her books and I can't wait to see what's next!

Thank you Nikki Grant for the opportunity to read this ARC!

✨ BOOK REVIEW — My Kind of Slay ✨
⭐️ 4⭐️

Vibes:
💔 Ice-queen heroine + fun, flirty bad boy
❄️ Snowstorm + stuck-together chaos
🔥 Fake-dating / forced-proximity heat
🌀 Secrets, inner walls, and slow-burn attraction

This one starts cold — literally snowed in — then slowly melts into something way hotter than either character planned. Claire’s closed-off, chill energy meets Marshall’s easy charm and stubborn pull. Trapped together when weather and fate crash down, the tension ignites fast, and suddenly “just a weekend” doesn’t sound like enough.

What hits:
✨ Sharp banter and that “we shouldn’t — but also can’t stay away” dynamic
🔥 Chemistry that builds through stolen looks, tension-loaded small talk, and heat simmering under every page
❄️ The snowbound setting gives this dual a cozy-meets-raw vibe — feels intimate and edgy at once

What’s a little off:
⏳ Some moments slow down the momentum — the ice-queen barrier takes time to crack
⚠️ Parts of the “forced proximity” feel suspect; might not be for everyone

Final take:
Cold start, hot finish. My Kind of Slay is messy, sexy, and fun — perfect for when you want a short, flirty read with tension, banter, and a slow burn that pays off. Definitely worth it if you like icy hearts thawing under pressure.

From the very first page, this book grabbed me and didn’t let go. The pacing is fast, fun, and deliciously spicy — exactly what I love in a romance. The chemistry between Claire and Marshall is electric, the kind that makes you want to stay up all night just to see what happens next.

Nikki Grant knows how to blend heat with humor, and let’s just say… I’ll never look at a stuffed mouse with handcuffs the same way again (swoon). And seriously — should every couch in this story be covered in plastic? Because wow. 🔥

By the end, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters. I’m already craving more of Claire and Marshall’s story — and maybe a few more of those unforgettable moments that make “My Kind of Slay” such a thrilling, laugh-out-loud, and utterly steamy read.

If you love fast-paced romance with attitude, heart, and a whole lot of heat, this book is your kind of slay too.

A freak storm storm and suddenly she’s getting all warm and more than cosy Marshall . Claire did swear that she wouldn’t go there but any port in a storm and all that and it wasn’t too long before she was laying flat on her back and enjoying the slay of his attack to her senses as she tenses . Ice Queen cometh with the TA Marshall , a court-martial offence? Well it’s the windows they’re steaming and she’s thawed so much at his touch she’s beaming …Brilliant fun , a great stomping read ,I devoured with greed. It’s by Nikki Grant does she grant wishes ? Cos this is bliss so please if you do Nikki , write us some more? I implore you. Great writing and exciting to boot and Marshal ,oomph 😮‍💨 he’s a lotta hot but cute too.

I was grinning like an idiot. It’s got that super fun, slightly chaotic “we’re stuck together and pretending we don’t care” vibe, and I ate it up. The way these two bounce off each other? It just works. It feels natural, a little messy, and honestly kinda adorable.

And the chemistry? Yeah, it sneaks up on you. One minute you’re vibing, the next you’re like, “ohhhh they’re in trouble.” It’s flirty and hot without trying too hard, which I love it just feels easy, like you’re watching two people trip into something they didn’t plan on.

It’s a fast, fun read that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and I honestly didn’t want to put it down. Perfect when you want something light but still spicy enough to make you smirk.

Cute little novella about Claire and Marshall. They have known each other because they both TA for the same professor but nothing has ever happened between them. Once another guy show interest in Claire, Marshall starts to notice her.

While I enjoyed this story I think it could have been more fleshed out. I liked Claire being pretty confident in herself and voicing what she wanted. I also appreciated Marshall’s view on helping Claire with her campaign. I think I would have liked just more of them and their lives. It’s written well and maybe that’s why I wanted more.

I received this book as an ARC and am leaving my honest review.

Need a fast Christmas romance with less than 100 pages then this is for you. These two are cute, there is a little bit of plot and back ground but the story jumps between interactions between the MCs so you don’t have a lot of story line to slug through to get to the cute and cozy romance. This story is not serious it is a light and fun holiday novella or really a winter novella as there is no actual Christmas aspects included. So if you need a story to bump up your reading count or just a fun palette cleanser between books swoop this one up and devour it in one sitting.

This was a fun, quick little novella. Claire was super driven and goal-oriented and I really loved that about her. I loved that Marshall was the party guy and the football player but he was also a really focused student with career aspirations and stuff. I liked how this went from friends to lovers when they got trapped in a building during a snowstorm together. I do love a man willing to kneel for his woman😉 The way Marshall won Claire back in the end was super cute and Grey’s Anatomy fans will love it. Spice was delicious 🤤

This spicy little novella packs alot of heat. Claire and Marshall are both TA’s for the same professor. Both decide to stay on campus during winter break and work on project’s together. One night, the two are in the library and the power goes out. So what do they do? Truth or dare. Claire dares Marshall to kiss her and the rest is history.

This was such a quick holiday read. It was the perfect palate cleanser between books.

If you are looking for a quick and fun read, and you love college romances, this would be a perfect choice for you. Claire and Marshal are both TAs to the same Professor and are forced to work closely together.

Over time, this athlete / wallpaper pair realises that there is mutual attraction, and that soon leads to more. Their “adventures together” were cute and it was a breeze to read this novella.

Claire and Marshall are great in this quick novella. Things heat up pretty quickly when the two of them get snowed in together. Claire’s hands off quickly takes a turn. And before you know it, Marshall is taking her virginity. But will this last? Or was it a one time thing? I’m so not telling! But I absolutely loved this one. The banter, the steamy moments. Titans with it. Thank you for allowing me to read this as an ARC. I throughly enjoyed it.

I had a hard time getting into this one. I didn’t really care about the characters at all. I think it was difficult because most of the book was actually just about the characters from the main series and how great they are (which they are. I adore them).
I can get behind how fast they end up together, just because of the simmering tension, but I wasn’t invested.
It was a decent enough story, and I had a good time reading it, I’m just not in love with it.

This quick read novella in the Makeup and Mochas series is a cute little college romance. Although the “situationship” goes from 0-100 in 2 pages, the story is interesting and keeps your attention. Although I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending, just because it seemed abrupt, it still left me with a smile on my face and a happy feeling in my heart.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review honestly and voluntarily.

If you're looking for a quick, cozy winter read, My Kind of Slay is the perfect pick! It’s an interconnected standalone in the Makeup and Mochas series, and I absolutely adored Claire and Marshall. Their chemistry is effortless —full of flirty and fun banter, sizzling heat, and genuine warmth.

I loved that each chapter alternated between their perspectives—it made the story flow so naturally and kept me hooked the entire time. It’s fast-paced with just enough plot to keep you invested and the perfect amount of spice for its length.

This was the ultimate palette cleanser read—I devoured it in one sitting and was genuinely sad when it ended!
