Offers recipes complemented by illustrations and tips for fillings and frostings, in an array of unusual and kid-friendly options, from simple and celebration cupcakes to cupcakes for special diets.
This is more like cupcake here and now than cupcake heaven, in that while the recipes are all beautifully photographed and nicely appointed, they all seem eminently do-able in a non-professional kitchen with the equipment that you already possess. Unlike my favorite cupcake cookbook, this one does not miniturize bigger cakes--this one is really aimed at decorating cupcakes in a simple yet very attractive way to make them fancier to look at (not necessarily taste bomb sensations). I would consider this as the best second cupcake book that I have seen--skipping over Martha Stewart and others, and I would definitely get it if I had younger kids, OR if I end up having grandchildren who live nearby. These ideas would be wonderful for kid desserts for birthdays, holidays, picnics, etc. In fact I might make some for our next Run put to Jim and Dina's cabin, just as a trial run. Not all cupcakes are kid-oriented--Prune and Armagnac come to mind.
Every recipe in this looks great and the end products appear amazing but the only reason I would have for pursuing the more complicated decorating is for selling--and I don't do that. A nice book but not for me. I didn't try any of the recipes so I can't speak to that portion of it.
