Author Laurie White's mystery/romance opens with these words: Something wasn't right. What follows is the story of a missing sister, embezzled cash, and romance between a cop and a journalist. As LAPD Detective Matt Romero and Southland Life magazine writer Rachel Bennett search for Rachel's missing sister, their attraction for each other grows. But can they overcome traumas from their pasts?

I enjoyed White's story, as well as her writing style, and definitely recommend this book.

Well… who knew solving a crime would be so amazingly hot? This is one adventure I am glad I found myself in the middle of. Two people who are so wrong for each other, but not because they aren’t attracted but because of who they have lost, are two people who are desperate to be together despite everything against them!

Rachel’s sister has gone missing. As her sister, Rachel is very concerned and worried that something bad is going to happen to her sister. Her sister needs regular medication for a heart condition and Rachel is determined to find her to make sure she is safe.

Matt is one of the detectives assigned to the case. But he is not looking for Rachel’s sister because he is worried about her. He sees her as a criminal that has stolen a great amount of money from the company that she worked for. But when he questions Rachel about her sister, everything that he knows is about to change.

Rachel knows that her sister is an honest and kind person and would never do the things the detective is saying. There has to be more to the story, but one look into that detective’s eyes and she knows there is so much more than just a missing person/stolen money case.

The attraction between Rachel and Matt is rediculous. These two clearly have it bad for each other. For Matt, it could compromise his entire case. For Rachel, it could be deadly. These two have lost people in their past and refuse to go through that again. They know they each have their own attraction to one another, but until Rachel’s sister is found and the mystery is solved there will be nothing more.

Rachel is relentless in attempting to find her sister, Matt is now relentless in not only finding her sister, but protecting her too. This is a suspenseful read and one not to be missed. When these two connect for the first time, there is so much more there than just not getting caught by the bad guys. Sparks with a great fire begin to burn within… But what happens if they don’t find Rachel’s sister? If they find her, would it even be possible given those they have loved int he past for them to find something together?

This book was gripping and a pretty crazy adventure that I wasn’t expecting. I enjoyed the book a lot and though I wish there were moments in the book that would go into slow motion like they were in my mind, it is well written and full of angst. Two people who want nothing more than to find one girl and an undeniable attraction that can’t be fought…

I had to know that everyone made it out of the story. Did they? Meh… I won’t tell. But I think my heart did stop for a while in anticipation of what was to come! The characters were amazing and strong.

There was no weakness except where their hearts were concerned. They lived strong lives and neither regretted their pasts, only the people they lost. Which in this case was enough to put a huge angsty situation between them. This book just one of those books that you don’t want to put down.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I have read all of Laurie's books and have enjoyed them completely. They have a great mix of chemsity and mystery to keep you going. The main characters are a mix of spunky and alpha which make for a great coming together in the book. Are her books Erotica? No but please understand that they hit the mark without being overly done..if ya get my drift ;) I love Erotica but really enjoy Laurie's novels completley.

Now this books is about Matt who's wife was murdered. He is in thecop assigned to a case to find a person of interest who is suspected of stealing millions of dollars from her employeer. ...mouth full right!!!???? Well Matt goes to question Rachel, the suspects sister and BOOM insta chemistry. They BOTH feel it but are kinda like WOOOH what is going on!! Rachel will not date or love a cop because her dad was a cop and died right in front of her :( Can't blame a girl right!! Well the two totally fight this growing attraction all the while Rachel is being targeted by bad peps and we presume its over her sisters disappearance. Matt and Rachel spend ALOT of time together because his alpha tendiences make him want to protect her. ...... Plus memories of letting his wife down kiiinda haunt him. Rachel is about to go all in with Matt after a steamy night when she says "ya want me? you gotta quit your job!!" OMG are you serious Rachel? i mean the dude lives and breaths being a cop soooo you guessed it....drama time. Well as all this happens the bad guys find Rachel and her sister Paige when the thicking of the plot happens. *Que music*

So the end of the story happens really quickly with Matt and Rachel trying to figure out where they fit in if they fit together at all.......

Vikki's Musings

I entered a contest back in December and won an e-book of my choice by Laurie White. I am not a huge fan of romantic suspense as a general rule, but the book description for Without a Trace sounded interesting. I am very glad I took a chance on this engaging story. Ms. White’s writing style is smooth and flowing and her pacing is excellent. Her dialogue is sharp and brings her character to life. She is excellent at ending her chapters and scene breaks on a hook, keeping me reading to find out what happens next.

Rachel Bennett is an investigative reporter for a local magazine and is known for her ability to paint a story in vivid color for her readers. After she is unable to reach her younger sister for three days, she uses her key to enter Paige’s apartment only to hear, “Police! Stop right there.” Heart pounding, she turns and meets the steely dark-eyed gaze of ‘the most overwhelming man she’d ever laid eyes on’.

Matt Romero is heart-stoppingly gorgeous with dark Hispanic good looks, but having a gun pointed at her is quite unnerving to say the least. He explains he has a warrant to search her sister’s apartment and that Paige is missing and under suspicion for embezzling a half a million dollars from her employee’s company.

Rachel immediately bluntly informs Matt there is no way her sister would ever steal from anyone. When she finds out Paige is without her heart medicine, Rachel is frantic to locate her sister and insists on helping Matt find her. Against his better judgment, Matt reluctantly agrees she can go with him to question her sister’s boss and co-workers at N-P Construction.

The last thing Matt wants or needs is the bewitching auburn-haired, hazel-eyed woman interfering with his investigation, but her force of will tells him it is better to have her with him than snooping around on her own.

When danger comes their way as a Camaro tries to run them down, Matt realizes Rachel has gotten under his shield. After losing his wife a few years back, he is determined to never give his heart to another woman. As the investigation intensifies, his attraction continues to grow at an alarming rate.

Rachel is also afraid of her growing attraction as well. Her father was a cop, and she watched as his car blew up killing him and injuring her. She is determined that she will never become involved with a man who puts his life on the line every day. Can this unlikely pair find her sister without losing their hearts along the way?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this suspense-filled story, packed with plenty of action and sexual tension between Rachel and Matt. Ms. White gives her readers nail-biting moments galore, where I sat on the edge of my seat waiting to see if they would escape their peril unharmed. Her writing is also deeply emotional. I could feel the pain and terror Rachel feels when she is faced with possibly of losing Matt forever. I adore it when the author gets me so enmeshed with the characters that it is as if I become part of them.

If you are looking for a tale of intense passion, action-packed scenes that will raise the hair on the back of your neck, then you will not want to miss out on Without a Trace. I am sure you will enjoy this book as much I did. Happy reading!
