Forever, Never, Always

Rate this book
Forever, Never, Always is the story of a friendship torn apart by the lies they never meant to tell and the truth they can't take back.

Zoe thought Ric might be her forever. Six months together felt easy, natural . . . even a little bit like fate.
But everything changes when Ric moves next door to one of her best friends.

Sofia is a single mother trying to juggle her chaotic life. Embracing her return to work, loneliness, and the struggles of raising a toddler, she barely has time to breathe, let alone fall for anyone.

Especially not Ric.

But it’s Ric who shows up when she needs someone.
Ric who hears the cracks in her voice.
Ric who makes her son laugh when she can’t even make him smile.

The feelings are impossible to ignore and even harder to resist.
When a line is crossed, everything unravels.

Friendship, love, and loyalty is all left hanging in the balance.

Lies can destroy a friendship, but the truth could ruin everything. And if there’s one thing more destructive than a lie, it’s a perfectly timed truth.

Can’t get past the ick factor. With friends like Sophia…. Solidly in the Zoe camp on this one. These folks need to expand their social group or just decide to all live together and screw whoever floats your boat at the time. Two stars for Ms Jane standing up for a woman’s right to choose. Eric was looking for a family and he cheated on the woman he was seeing to get one ready made.

I was so looking forward to reading this “heroine as ow” scenario but it didn’t work for me.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

What worked for me:
Catching up with everyone from bk 1.

The h and ow from bk 1 are NOT besties now.

The ow here is very well portrayed through her own POV - her personality remained true to book 1: flighty, judgey, selfish, self absorbed, forward, vain. She’s also vulnerable and independent and does have other good qualities. I connected well with her, albeit unrelateable, character.

When given an ultimatum the h chooses her bff over the H.

The healthy familial bonds between the H and his brothers and parents.

Positive bodily integrity.

The use of British English.

What doesn’t work for me:
CHARACTERISATION:
The h is a chaotic mess.
There’s a big difference between endearing naivety and stupidity, and she’s not naive.
No personal growth.
She sounds, thinks and acts like a teenybopper.
Questionable, immature, irrational decisions and choices as a parent, friend, employee, lover, co-worker etc etc.
Easily influenced and bullied.
Her mental wellbeing isn't addressed.
Her reliance on others.
I can’t connect with her character.

The H’s emotional immaturity:
He’s 36 with the inner and outer dialogue of a 16 year old.
He’s lying to himself, the h and the ow: the ow IS right for him, she’s just not right for NOW:
he’s jealous and possessive over her; they have a passionate sexual relationship; he makes her feel loved and special. They have fun together.
BUT he sees the h as his ticket to his own white picket fence.
For me that’s makes their bond one of convenience rather than Romance.

The key female characters are all problem drinkers.
Be it their own problems, each other’s problems - but drink they will.
Most unpretty.

EXECUTION:
The inconsistent writing style took me out of their story:
1st AND 2nd person narrative.
Head-hopping within the same scene.
Repetition.
Not enough background info on h and ow.
Lack of rhythm and flow in the story - just as I settle into a scene it cuts off and picks up somewhere else.
The Hxh have no chemistry and their relationship feels more like friendship and convenience.

Neaten review: tenses, spelling etc

Previous notes:
Oh, this is gonna hurt; but at least it’s not Dan’s book. Out 11/07/2025
NTS & possible SPOILERS❌:
I think:
These main characters appear in book 1:Forever, Never, After with hero: Hugo and heroine: Meg.
Ric is Eric, Hugo’s brother.
Zoe and Sofia are both Meg’s best friends.
Hectic 🤦🏼‍♀️🥶

This book was a weird one for me. I really like this author and I loved the first book in the series – the one with Meg and Hugo (messy cheating husband drama done right). So I was excited for this one, which is about Hugo’s brother, Eric, and two of Meg’s friends, Zoe and Sophia.

Basically, Eric and Zoe have been in this sort-of relationship for about six months – not official, not serious, more of a situationship. Then Sophia, who’s Zoe’s friend and Eric’s neighbour (and also has a little boy), starts catching his eye. He kisses her, breaks it off with Zoe, and suddenly he’s sneaking around with Sophia. Everyone seems to know – except Zoe. And when she finds out, it’s this whole thing where people are just like, “But they’re in love, get over it.”

Don’t get me wrong – the writing was great. I literally read it in like three hours, it kept me hooked the entire time. But I just couldn’t get over the fact that they were all so close. Would you really want to be with someone who was sleeping with your best mate a few weeks ago? It felt off and kind of icky.

Then there’s the ending – Eric proposes to Sophia (??) and that’s it. No epilogue. Everything happens super fast, like within two months. And Zoe’s just left to deal with it, even though all her friends clearly knew and basically lied to her face. I felt bad for her – she got treated so badly and everyone just brushed it off like it was fine because “love.”

So yeah, loved the writing, loved the pacing, but hated the situation. I just wish it wasn’t a love triangle within the same friend group. There are literally other people in the world! 3 stars from me.

This was hard to read because as much as I like the cheating trope, I’m not a fan when it involves friends or family as the other person. But I knew I wanted to continue this series as we met both Zoe and Sofia in book 1, so I put my big girl panties on and jumped in. Though I don’t remember the MMC,Eric, if he was mentioned in book 1? I’m assuming so, because he is Hugo’s (book 1) brother, he was just alright to me. My positive thoughts of him did increase once he started bonding with Sofia’s son, but I wanted him to feel more worth the drama between friends than he was written.

We get to see how Meg and Hugo are doing and that Dan is still a dickwad and I was so excited for the updates. Want Zoe’s book next. She needs her own brand of happily ever after.

Honestly Terrible Story

Wow! Spoilers! Zoe’s best friend starts an emotional affair that turns physical with Zoe’s boyfriend she is living with. Their mutual friend finds out and keeps it a secret. They play Zoe for a fool and betray her big time. The book wants you to root for him and Sofie but you just won’t. At the end Zoe just says “ ok be together cuz you’re happy” . I would have liked this book if it had been Zoe’s point of view and she got her revenge.

I hated how they tried to guilt trip the friend that was cheated on to support her friend that went with her ex 😀. And the fact that everyone knew about the relationship and no one told her 😭 so snakeyyy

Wow The Absolute Empathetic Narcissism And Abuse At Play From Sofia Especially. Single Mothers Are Happier Than Married Mothers, Shes An Empathetic Abuser

I hate Meg.

Why does Sofia get away with breaking Zoes heart but her makes Zoe help her. What abusive friends they are.

Is Meg the ring leader? Still hating young women for the men in their lives?

I await the white women who have the balls to call Emotional, Social and PHYSICAL Abuse of putting your friend medically at risk from your digusting cheating ass.

And using your child to cheat on your friend and dodge all consequences.

The way Meg babies her, the bitch, has completely changed my opinion of her. But then she blames the younger woman abd like smen who punch other men.

Wow that was gross.

Harry has a mother who would trauma bond then steal her friends partner.

What a bitch.

And then she gets toddlerised through it.

And she is a terrible mother, complaining about parenting.

Thats ripe for emotional abuse.

What a toxic bitch and toxic man.

I know people like Sofia, who have no personality beyond moaning about the person in their life (omg I wanted to save Harry from her constant state of resentment, abusive bitch) and then adopt a conflict-free version of their friends personality, to lure away the man who initially enjoyed the interesting woman, but used the chance for him to imprint on her son to tease.

Shes such a bitch.

I love shunning people who use their kids to justify how they are putting their friends health at risk (Zoe get healthchecks please, i know bitches like this, they dont know how to wipe their own arses without getting a UTI but pretend they just get ill) and emotionally and socially gaslighting her.

I would never be friends with any of these people.

Sleeping with students? abuser. Moaning about being a parent? Abuser.

Emotional Abuse the akin to Sophia, is the most common form of child abuse.

Poor Zoe, betrayed by everyone and forced to People Please.

I wouldn't even cry for Harry if someone murdered Sophia, like I was enjoying her pain but Meg and ZOE saved her and I felt gross.

Dirty bitch made Zoe ill, playing with her head and health.

Meg gets to hate the young girl Dan groomed but Zoe is bad for hating Sofia for Communally abusing her.

Wow you must have terrible friends.

Zoe should have quietly said, "I'm glad you make each other happy." And then quietly quit the cunts.

THEN they would have become miserable, because Zoe is the one who supported Ric, not Sofia, and soon, Ric would actually become dysregulated because thats what love is.

Two Toxic people feeding on Zoe.

Save Harry please.

I genuinely disown the Sofias in my life now.

Some of them AFTER their kids see the Sofias for what they are, emotionally elsewhere.

Fuck Ric is a cunt.

I wanna see someone repeatedly draw "Abuser" on his head every day in permanent markers.

No sympathy for Zoe from these two AT ALL only panic that Zoe wont let Sofia abuse her anymore for who would take her kid.

Dirtbag.

Not a fan

Three issues made this a no for me and I skimmed. 1) abortion as birth control. A HARD no. If authors want to bring in issues they have to be prepared to lose readers. This author made this sound like another day in the park to end the life of an unborn baby. Nope. 2) uh Ric and his BROTHER have a threesome. GROSS! Incestuous. What the hell is wrong with authors! This is NOT normal or ok. 3). Can't stand books where they will have a group of friends who all have slept with each other. This doesn't quite go there but it heads that direction. Both brothers have slept with the same woman...at the same time. Gross. Ex with best friend...guess that could happen but what was uncomfortable was that he was sleeping with one and at the same time had feelings for another. Not even a gap...books don't have to be like a soap opera.

I just started reading this and the first thing that irritated me was how she was nonchalant and eager about leaving her kid at his first day in nursery, didn’t she have the baby by insemination?

Real life drama for Zoe, Sofia, and Ric

I wasn't sure what to expect from reading the blurb, but this was definitely a real life drama for Zoe, Ric, and Sofia. Relationships get messy in this one, by design (heads up). Meg and Hugo from.the first book are in this book and add to the depth of the storyline. Zoe is a social media darling all about parties and such. Zoe stated that she does not want children. Her boyfriend Ric, who is in his thirties, wants a wife, children, and a dog. They are not connecting honestly. What they have is convenient and easy for their schedules. Now Sofia has a young son Harry and wants a husband and more children. This makes Sofia and Ric in more of a compatible space. They really get on well and Ric is a pro with Sofia's son Harry. Things become out of hand and there is some serious drama. I was glad for the happy ending on this one because I was worried that the author was going to leave things broken. Ric's brothers are so good. Read On!

I got this book because I love angsty, dark, messy romance reads. A book with a best friends love triangle fighting for the same dude? Sign me up!

This book was more on the 'cute' side for me. I've enjoyed many of Nicola's MC romance books which I find grittier. Maybe I went in with wrong expectations but it felt like there were waaay too many people making relationship decisions for the two MCs here.

From the get go there was never any conflict over which heroine you were rooting for. She made the other girl unlikable from the first chapter. And the end? When it came to Sophia choosing, I was let down by her choice. I know that it was a way for the author to wrap it all up with a grand gesture that will keep everyone in the story happy but it didn't work for me. Maybe I'm petty but I would always be thinking that I was the second choice. And what if the friend didn't have a sudden spark of selflessness to grant her approval? Yeah, no.

I thought the book was pretty good. I love getting bits and pieces of Meg and Hugo.
I do feel as though the story was slightly rushed? I didn’t feel a connection really with Sofia and Ric like I did with the characters of the first book. It was like they just kind of both started off liking each other rather than us getting to see them grow to be friends then fall in love, yes they did a few hangouts but I don’t know I just felt like I wasn’t connecting as much.
That being said, I did enjoy the book and I love the forbidden aspect. I really liked Ric and Sofia together. Ric and Hugo’s family are the best.

Forever never always- Zoey thought Ric might be the one, i mean he took her photos for social media and they had a rhythm. But when he moves next door to her best friend Sofia things change. Ric felt needed helping Sofia with her son Harry, and knew he had to end things with Zoey, but when he does she forbids him from telling Sofia his true feelings, but Sofia already knew, she didnt want to choose between a blossoming love and her friend, but Zoe forces her too, but will love overcome it all?
Well written engaging, heart ache, desires and more a great addition to the series

I liked the book, but was not blown away by it as I was with book one.

Cheating = yes the H and h kiss while H is technically with OW so that is cheating

h sees H with OW = OW was bff to h who was hanging out with H often as they were neighbors and in the same friend group. While fighting their feelings for each other, h saw H with OW quite often.

OW drama = I actually had no problems with the antipathy the OW had with the H and h in this one. OW was petty and a bit vindictive, but the H and h were such assholes about being honest and just having a decent conversation with the OW. H and h were sneaky and lying about their feelings/relationship. OW and the H had some major drama, but that was between them and it was used against the OW in a way I did not like (TW-abortion).

All in all, good read where there is no black and white situations but a bunch of grey and I liked the complexity of it. I liked that the author actually made me feel a range of emotions about the H, h and OW.

Beautiful but heartbreaking

This story tells the tale of 3 beautiful friends, where lies start to hurt two of them. But one is very selfish and only thinks of herself and her wants while the other two think different.
The characters are beautifully written and when you read the story its like your a side character witnessing all the chaos unfolding.
Nicola Jane writes stories that make you cry and laugh all at the same time and every novel I've read from her is beautifully written.

I love this author, she always brings me everything I need in a book. I cannot say enough good things about her. I loved Sofia and Eric. I felt for Zoe for what she went through but she didn't really want Eric until there was someone else. I know some reviews are on Zoe's side but she knew it would never work out with Eric, her decision at the very beginning said everything. This book includes OWD and cheating on page.

Great story!!

This is the second book in this phenomenal series and this is Sophie and Eric's story.
This is a well written emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, intrigue, challenges, secrets, jealousy, acceptance, determination, manipulation, meddling, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining and heartfelt page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I have recommended.

As the follow up to Forever Never After I was prepared for the angst & ready to feel stabby towards a character (Yep, still feeling it, Dan!). While I didn't quite feel stabby I still wanted to slap Zoe and Nicola Jane took this one to the next level of feelings! Don't forget your tissues when you sit down to binge ready this sweet story!

Great

I loved the first book, but this one was just as good with little less angst. However, it didn't steal away from the page turning and the excitement. I downloaded this book as soon as it came out and read it all in one go. Sofia really had the rough of everything. My heart went out to her. Ric was a great MMC and Zoe well, i still dont know.

I sure love me some Nicola Jane books, and this one did not disappoint. Every single character pretty much irritated me at one point or another and I freaking loved it. I love all the drama and the angst and the back-and-forth.

I liked it more than I thought I would

Betrayal like this is always written where the guy and the friend are the antagonist of the story this was a different perspective. The story is well written and interesting even tho the topic is rough. The story was a touch too obvious but the execution was good.

Ric & Sophia

This was such a great read. I can understand feeling betrayed on Zoe's part, but at the same time I understand Ric and Sophia's feelings. For quite a while it was a twisted, chaotic, mess. In the end lessons were learned, love bloomed and friendships remained.
