Hero and venture capitalist, Charles Sinatra aka 'Big Daddy' was ruthless and heartless man living in Jericho County, Maine but when he meets intern, Jenay, boy did something begin to beat in that ruthless heart of his.
This was book one to Big Daddy's series and wow was it a ride! Four devoted sons, many conniving women that BD dated in secret and memorable primary and secondary characters that were all flawed. Loved the bluntness of 'Charlie'...great story!
Big Daddy Sinatra: There Was a Ruthless Man is one of those novels likened to a bag of your favorite chips. Caloric, tasty, addictive, bursting with flavor and additives but fattening while leaving you hungry for more. I’ve read books that were more skillfully written, better edited, and cunningly planned, but Mallory Monroe has heart in her writing and it shows. This author manages to convey a depth of feeling and connection to the reader where more experienced writers have failed.
Jenay Franklin is woman who has been through a rough time. Her ex-husband used her, and moved on to better prospects, and at the age of 32, she is starting over in her career, dealing with her parents’ criticism and rejection, and accepting, as well as owning her past mistakes. Then she meets Charles Sinatra aka Big Daddy Sinatra of Jericho, Maine, a wealthy venture capitalist with looks, money, sex appeal and a truckload of rotating women and haters. As far as she can see, they have nothing in common except an instant mutual attraction, so there is no point in pursuing it. Charles is an alpha who has raised four sons on his own, built an empire, and knows what he wants and how to get. He wants Jenay, and once he and she are forced to realize how much, there is no turning back for either of them. Their passion is explosive, and the author builds the connection between them through various scenarios. The sex scenes are quite erotic and the language is no holds-barred, not flowery, or pretty, very in your face. If adult language and descriptions make you uncomfortable, you may want to steer clear of this book, or skim over the bedroom action involving Jenay and Charles.
Charles/Big Daddy was the reason why I started reading this book because he is actually the main character. The more I was pulled into the story, I came to understand Charles as a man who is true to his word, unshakeable in his belief of right and wrong, and is an excellent judge of people. He basacially summarized Jenay outside of the physical attraction of their initial meeting, and was forced to work through his baggage to make it happen with her. Jenay is a woman who is assertive and realistic, not a shy about demanding respect from Charles, or anyone. Charles backs her and their developing relationship 300% once he has decided to commit to it. And what made Charles Sinatra one of my favorite alpha males is he takes no prisoners when it comes to loving, protecting and defending Jenay.
If I had to underline the wrinkles in these book, I would say there a few, and I mean very few, grammatical and editing issues that could have been easily ironed out by a good experienced proof reader. It didn’t deter my enjoyment of this book, but I felt that with all the heart and work she put into this novel, it deserves to be as pristine and professional level as possible. I did go on to purchase the sequel and the third book, which have some of these issues though not as many. Overall, I’ve been sucked into this series, and plan to read about Charles’ younger brother, Michello “Mick” Sinatra, a big time mafia crime boss. I read the preview and I was very impressed by how well For Once In My Life was written and edited. Mallory Monroe is an author I would recommend to readers who enjoy bwwm I/R romance with grit, wit and intelligence but also loads of love, fascinating characters and an edginess in the narrative that is smart and insightful without moralizing.
This book was whack. Nice tie in to the Gabrinis, but this felt repetitive like her other work. SPOILER ALERT. They meet they have sex on the first date, like all her other books. Girl is hated by everyone, because he's slept with all the women in town (.sound familiar?) Guy is obsessed with munching the carpet ;-) Guy marries girl in the end.
popular phrases as found in other books: " I don't know you from Adam" " his heart soared" "wonderfulness". etc. etc.
Monroe should be held liable for plagiarizing her own work.
Mallory Monroe is a phenomenal writer her Romancing The Mob Boss series is one of my favorite series. After only reading M/M romance books these past few weeks, I needed a break from that genre to go back to one of my favorite genre and that is I/R, to one of my favorite I/R author. I haven't read any of her books recently because I am not a huge fan of Tommy and Sal from The Gabrini brothers series. I have been skipping that series so I was so excited finding out she has a new series out.I was looking forward to this book I really was but It fell short.
When they first met
When Reno from The Mob Boss first met Trina they slept together the first day. When Regina from The President series first met Dutch they slept together the first day. Now when Jenay in this book first met''Big Daddy'' they slept together the first day.
See the pattern. Her other books are the same where the hero and heroine meet and sleep together the first day. Why does she continue with this pattern? Almost all her books it is the same thing. I don't think the is anything wrong sleeping with the guy the first day but why does her heroine/hero continue with the same pattern over and over again.
Jenay
I wanted to like Jenay I really did. The were times where I rolled my eyes at her. Her husband left her to be with another woman, she supported him and he left her when he saw a rich woman and she lost her 2 step kids whom she loved and she was devastated when that happened. She picked herself up and went to college and got her degree. Go Jenay! I was rooting for her. Then she meets ''Big Daddy'' not a lot of people like him. His rich, straight shooter and takes no nonsense. What made me roll my eyes is she took a job from a man that told her straight forward if whatever they had on does not work out she will be fired. Putting her in the same position of depending on a man. She supposed to be this strong and independent woman that should have learned her lesson from her ex. What does she do? She goes and depends on a man again. Shouldn't she have learned the mistakes first time from her ex husband? Then she annoyed me when she meets Charles mistress and told her she was his girlfriend. Her being cheated on why didn't she question Charles the minute he worked in instead of sleeping with him with no answers? I just didn't get her. I didn't feel the connection that I felt with Trina from The Mob series. I found her weak at times and was not the strong woman that she was supposed to be. I found her a walking contradiction.
Charles aka Big Daddy
A lessor version of Reno. He is honest, rich and doesn't take crap. I found him unlikeable despite all of this. He has 4 kids aged 18-22. He was a father of 3 when he was 19. He is a self made man. He has a mistress that he had for 14 years. I just didn't like him like Reno and I think Mallory was trying to make another Reno and that fell short. Reno was charming, Charles was arrogant and annoying. Reno was funny and protective Charles I found controlling and thinks he knows it all. He was a hard man to love and he made it hard for me to like him never mind love him.
I really wanted to love this book but I got bored. I got bored with Jenay, I got bored with how fearless Charles was supposed to be. I felt I read this book before from the same author. Like another reviewer said same old from Mallory. Same old hero , same old heroine. This could had been better if she stopped making her MCs like her previous books. They fell short because they had no fire or the charm that Trina and Reno had.
Charles “Big Daddy” Sinatra and Jenay Franklin story. This is a new series by Mallory Monroe.
This was a great read and a page turner. What I loved about the story was the brutal honesty that Charles had regarding all areas of his life, family and relationships.
I loved the fact that when Charles exes showed up in his life making their demands and telling their lies, Charles took Jenay right to them and put them straight right in front of her!!! I loved that about him. He did not give Jenay any room to doubt him and he did not allow anyone, including his own disrespectful son Donald, to disrespect her in any way!!
Charles: "What kind of man do you say I am?" Jenay: You're a ruthless sonofabitch, who treats me like his Queen"
I enjoyed this story very much and stayed up late to finish reading it. I would highly recommend this story!
I love the beginning again story. Charlie is alpha male x3. the town of Jericho seems to be full of drama and I am ready for the next installment. kudos for janey not moving in because big daddy said so. I hope donnie gets therapy along with Charles. I'm not sure what Abby was thinking either with terminating her plan. I'm sure we have not heard the last from her.
Charlie "Big Daddy" Sinatra is off the charts; I loved him! He is unabashedly him, all day every day. He makes no excuse for his actions and he says what he means and DEFINITELY means what he says! Jenay is a great compliment to his take no prisoners type of personality. A great beginning to a new series!
I thought Charles was going to be a really over the top jerk on his high horse and so full of himself that he let his money go to his head. Not so much, he didn't fall for sob stories and he was first to let anyone know that he didn't give anything away and ran his businesses to make money not lose. All the complaints seemed harsh but once the truth was broken down it made them all seem like fools for trying to take advantage of Charles like he wouldn't see through the bs.
I thought the old lady was funny though, I really thought maybe she was going to be the one for him to change his ways but just like humans all around she showed what he already knew. Janey I enjoyed her in this she wasn't some bobble head girl just looking to hook up with a rich man and live off his back. When she flipped the script on him when he left town I thought that was a good change up for them. She didn't fall for the nonsense the way many of them thought she would and that was really good as well.
Not sure what's going on with Donald but he really needs to get himself together because Charles already told him what the deal was but of course he didn't listen. I thought he learned his lesson and moved on but I guess time will tell what will happen with him in the long run. I have a feeling the ladies of the story we haven't heard the last of them especially Abby she seems to not have learned anything at all. Hopefully she'll show up and give us a bit more drama in the next one.
Love this author. The first installment in the new series, The Sinatras of Jericho County, was the bomb. She really brought her A-game!. I loved both the H/h. Nothing but adult real talk throughout. Loved how both characters were open and honest with each other. (No secrets here). Charles, Big Daddy, was hated by the town folks, but he did not let that sway him for his convictions. He really did stand his ground on many issues, and never waivered even if it went against everyone else's grain. Jenay's character was more sensitive than Charles, but Charles also knew that if she was going to survive life in Jericho, she would have to toughen up, too. But will come as life continues to deal with them and an individual and their relationship.
I can hardly wait for the next installment. I think this is going to be a really fun read, as we may possibly visit some other favorite characters. Keep 'em coming. This will be my third series, and I love them!. Great job, Author Monroe!!!
Great story! I loved this book. Big Daddy was a hard man, to everyone. The love story between Big Daddy & Jenay was fast and hot. I really loved the interaction with his sons which had me laughing out loud a time or too and set the tone for future books in this series. The Gabrini connect was subtle but noticeable and did add a bit of fun to the book for me. Maybe we will get to see the Sinatras and the Gabrinis together again? I really hope so. I know some would say that Ms. Monroe just keep writing the same story with different character names but I say so what! It’s a great story and I would read it again and again! Can’t wait for the next book in the series! full review and more http://www.thebooklady.typepad.com
I loved all of the Sinatra series, Mick especially, Until he finds the one woman that can complete his life and show him what real love is all about, Big Daddy really is a caring misunderstood man by the population of Jericho. His family means everything to him but he will not tolerate bull from anyone, his children included. I just love everything written by Mallory Monroe, including the President's Girlfriend series and especially the Gabrini Mob Boss series.
Whew Lawd....I can always count on author Mallory Monroe to bring these fine a&* alpha men to life on paper and ebook. She knows how to write these complicated but oh so loving and faithful men who are straight up with no chaser. There is nothing soft or wimpy about them whatsoever, to their woman and family they are exactly who they are supposed to be but to everyone else their place is on the outside, never the inside with them.
Charles Sinatra aka Big Daddy Sinatra is a man's man (interesting because there is a person from Reno's and his cousin's world that is a relation to Charles and hopefully you ladies recognize who it is). Charles is a single father of four boys and an astute and ruthless venture capitalist. He was married before but his wife left leaving him with 3 of his boys to raise while she took the youngest one. After she met a man who didn't want a child around she sent him back to his father, thus Charles had four young boys he was raising alone. In that time he built himself up into a highly successful business man.
Jenay Franklin is a divorced woman who, she married very young and helped her then husband raise his two young girls. All the while working and helping put him through law school but once he finished, he left her for a woman with money and took the girls away from her. Leaving her broken but determined to get her life in order. She went back to school and graduated with a degree in hotel management. During her internship she meets Charles Sinatra at the wedding reception for his youngest son, in the hotel she was interning for. Little did the both of them knew that this chance meeting would change and challenge everything about them.
Charles was only interested in one night stands or sex partners, he clearly was not interested in settling down with nobody. He was content with raising his sons who were now young adults and running his businesses. Marriage was definitely not on his agenda now or ever. Jenay wasn't interested in it either, she was an older woman who did not want or need a distraction called a relationship. She wanted to graduate on time and get a job to start building her career, that was her only concern. But the meeting at the reception would change everything these two had committed themselves to. For you see Charles and Jenay were heading in the same direction and didn't even know it.
Charles and Jenay were electric together, they are the yin to the yang, the fire and the desire, the sun to the moon. Oh yes they were all of that and then some, explosive is putting it mildly and they were meant to be together even if at that moment neither one of them realized it. As with any amazing story there has to be protagonist and lawd where they and in full force to because as you see Charles did whatever he wanted to do and bedded whomever he wanted to. They all knew he had no intention of settling down with any woman, he made that perfectly clear but then he met Jenay and all bets were off. Then the revolt came out at Jenay in full force. But oh they weren't expecting Charles to be painfully ruthless with them for you see he was in love and didn't even know it but his actions spoke loud and clear. The message was and is, nobody messed with Jenay or his children or there will be major hell to pay which they clearly found out the hard way.
It is an amazing start to this series and I am looking forward to reading more as I am writing this review Book 2 has already been released and the title of that story is "BIG DADDY SINATRA 2: IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU (The Sinatras of Jericho County)" honey bees and I can't wait to dig into this next story. For I know there will be plenty of surprises in store for us. I am clearly rooting for Charles and Jenay at the end of book 1 they were married and Jenay announced a wonderful surprise for Charles. One person worries me though and that is his youngest son Donnie. I just really hope he can get himself together because at the moment he is such a hot mess.
Big Daddy Sinatra: There Was a Ruthless Man (The Sinatras of Jericho County Book #1) is my first book read by author Mallory Monroe. This is a well-written story about to very unlikely people coming together against all the odd stacked against them. First we meet Jenay Franklin, who get the shock of her life from her then husband Quince Franklin. That he is divorcing her and moving on with much richer prospect. Some years later Jenay meets Charles Sinatra at a wedding (he's the father of the groom and she is interning). For Charles it is interest at first sight, he feels something for Jenay that he has never felt before. Later that night after her accident he takes her home and the sparks fly and they are burning up the sheets. After Charles, leaves to go back to Jericho he cannot get Jenay off of his mind; however, Charles has his hands full of not just his business interest, his sons, but the women of Jericho that he has taken to his bed in the past. Will Charles and Jenay beat the odds that are against them or will the storm over take them. Find out by reading Big Daddy Sinatra: There Was a Ruthless Man (The Sinatras of Jericho County Book #1).
Big Daddy Sinatra2: If I Can't Have You (The Sinatras of Jericho County Book) is next on my list to read.
I liked the book, but hated the title/nickname. It was very weird and felt awkward when characters referred to Charles as "Big Daddy". Charles was definitely ruthless, but he was also fair. If you were good to him, he was good to you, but if you crossed him, all bets were off. He was all about his businesses. The only person he showed mercy to was Jenay. He was even cut throat with his sons. Jenay was headstrong and independent which made me like her character. Even when Charles offered to pay for things, she refused and set out to earn her own way. She was also very determined and tough. She refused to be taken advantage of by anyone and stood her ground when needed. She will definitely be the one to bring some humanity back to Charles but she'll have to battle his conniving exes and everyone else in town who hates him. Good start to the series. There was just the right amount of romance, betrayal and mystery.
When you read a writer's work and you its good ,you wonder if maybe they are doing to much when they introduce to many series or too many spinoffs.Well let me tell you that's not the case. This was a breath of fresh air to a new series from a fantastic writer. This was a down to earth couple who is little older and mature. The chemistry is so good that there are moments when you just sigh and say to yourself that this is good!We get to meet a man for the most part is not trying to have it his way but one who just wants to thrive in his corner. We get to see that you are not to old to start over and get your groove on either.
Big Daddy Sinatra: There Was a Ruthless Man (The Sinatras of Jericho County Book 1) is a very good and sensual interracial romance that earned a rating of five stars. Charles Sinatra is the most hated man in Jericho County. He is a single father of four grown boys . He met Jenay Franklin at his youngest son' s wedding. His was attracted to her and she liked him too. They had to overcome a lot of obstacles from others interfering in their relationship to reach their happiness. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading very good interracial romance novels.
I did not want to get caught up in another series but once again I was pulled in! I love an alpha male because I know when they love it's real and because they tend to fight that feeling that just makes them fall even harder so yeah that's my kind of book and ms Monroe cranks it out every time
I am hooked on this author everything she rolls out has been something that I usually re-read. loved Charlie and Jenay even as ruthless as Charlie was he finally found his match and they both found a true soul mate. loved it
In true Monroe fashion the characters are unforgettable. I would recommend. I think it's good as a stand alone and hope the sequels will be about the Charles Sinatra's sons. Though I would have loved to see Quince wallow in misery after divorcing Jenay - enough spoilers, read it.
I’m super late staring with this series. I started with Mick, Teddy and Drakko.
Charles is definitely a different man than Mick. Compared to Mick, Charles wears his emotions of his sleeve.
Charles meets Jenay while at his sons wedding reception. She’s an intern at a technical college obtaining her associates degree in hospitality. Get your education! What peeved me was Charles making her his GM. She has NO experience. Just an associates degree and a semesters worth of intern hours. Charles makes her his GM! I understand that she doesn’t want to look “weak” in front of her subordinates but um, no ma’am. You have no certifications in accounting to go over the books/numbers, poor leadership skills and no kind of experience. He should have made her assistant manager until she completed her degree, earned some experience and worked her way up. Jenay claims she wanted to be independent but depended on a man when it came to her employment and housing. She moves out of the hotel to her own home but still works for Charles. Um, still dependent.
Don’t get me wrong, Bea should have been fired and Enda but she kept Edna around. A quality that is need in regards to being a manager is strong leadership skills. Telling your subordinates “understand?” is a talking down to them. Sorry, but that’s one thing that frustrates me about the lead female characters in Ms. Monroe’s books. You can keep your business to yourself and manage people without the condescending tones. They get bold because they’re with a Sinatra.
Jenay was cheated on by her ex so you would think she has issues with trust, right? Well, when she gets to Jericho, some other woman is calling herself Charles girlfriend. She didn’t question him when he arrived. Why not? She doesn’t walk off when she hears about these other women. What does it for her is when Charles said he was going to move her in with him. Girl, bye!! She storms off crying and causing a scene. I’m like, “this does it for you?!” 😒
I usually love Ms. Monroe’s books but this one was boring and a bit frustrating.
I have read and reread and reread thus book and just today realized that I have never written a thank you review to Ms. Mallory! I enjoyed both Charles and Jenay's personalities and was happy that they found each other and found love! They were both disappointed in love, but was open to giving it their all for each other! There were haters along the way, but it did not stop the love from flowing! This was truly a great book about finding true love later in life and I know at some point in my life I will be reading it again, for it was that good!
Just like Janay, I am totally & completely in 😍with Big Daddy Sinatra in all his 💯glorious alpha ruthlessness & BDE! This man has swag & rizz for days & I'm here for it🤗This ✍has totally captivated me with her storytelling filled with angst, betrayal , payback, drama & passionate❤. I'm so ready for the rest of the series📚Happy reading🍷
I love this series and this author. I am rereading this from the beginning so that I can read the latest book. Charles is misunderstood and Jenay gets him. That town is full of crazy people. Story flows well.
Very good read! I love the relationship between Charles aka "Big Daddy" Sinatra and the beautiful Jenay! Charles is just as forceful as his brother Mick and his nephews Tommy and Sal! Mallory Monroe has done it again with this series!
Good storyline and great characters. It is good to see a parent rectify their error in spoiling a child, and making child pay for their mistakes. I also loved the genuine growth of feelings between Charlie and Denay, that ended with their marriage.
