Witch Central #3

A Dangerous Witch

Rate this book
It's the end of an era. This is the final release in the world of A Modern Witch. If you haven't met my witches yet, this is not the book you want to read . Go find A Modern Witch and begin where it all started.

I figure the final book doesn't need much introduction. Take one last journey with your favorite witches as an oversized marble calls another member of Witch Central on a journey...

Thank you for reading. It has been an amazing honor to be Witch Central's chief storyteller for the last four years.

I actually had to reach for the tissues with this one! Partly because of the story and partly because it is the very last time Debora Geary is going to write about these wonderful characters. Over the course of three series all revolving round the same characters we have come to know and love them and life will not be the same without them! As a finale this book works very well indeed. Many ends are wrapped up and, just to make sure, there is a brief trip into the future so we know what is going to happen to our friends. The final page is a personal apology from the author for not being able to write any more. Very sad:(

Forget everything you have read about witches before, because the witches in this series are probably not what you are used to, unless of course you already have read these books. I certainly have-all of them. And I have absolutely loved all of them. It was a shock to learn that this is the last of the witches of Witch Central we will ever read about, and I will miss them.

Most of these books revolve around the Sullivan and Walker families, their extended family, and friends. For the most part, they are all witches, with all different kinds of magic. Water witches, fire witches, earth witches, they are all represented, but with this story another sort of witch, finds her magic, and it isn’t good.

Nell and Daniel Walker are the parents of five children, which include a set of eleven year old, triplett girls. Ginia found her magic early, she’s an extraordinary healer. Shay has no magic, but she has her own great attributes. Up until now, Mia showed no signs of any magic, so when she suddenly exhibits signs of fire magic, all the fire witches are ready to start training her. What they don’t know, is that Mia is evolving into something that hasn’t been seen in over five hundred years, and it’s scary to say the least.

The best word to describe these books is heartwarming. Charming works too. They are always fast, well written reads, and feature a different witch in each book. The witch is usually facing some sort of problem, or just finding their particular magic. By this point, I feel like I know them all, and care about them all. Meeting their significant others, falling in love, having babies, this is how these witches live. There is so much love in these books, whether between a couple, parents, and their children, cousins, well you get the idea. It’s all held together by an old Irish witch named, Moira, the family matriarch. She lives in a small fishing village on the coast of Nova Scotia, where parts of these stories take place. It also takes place in California, and since the witches can port themselves to wherever they want to go, it totally works.

This book was shorter then the others, except the novellas. The author went through a personal crisis, and is unable to finish with the series. She took pains to try and wrap it all up in an epilogue, and I did enjoy the glimpses in the future that we get. I do regret not getting Aervyn’s grown up story-that’s the one I really wanted. Aervyn, also one of Nell and Daniel’s children, will grow up to be the most powerful witch that has ever lived(not a spoiler), and even at the age of four, surpassed all the adults. He, and Lizard, a female witch, and former delinquent, were my favorite characters of the series, and thankfully we did get Lizard’s grown up story, in a previous book. There is so much more to these stories, I could go on and on, like that there’s a magical realm game on the internet, run by witches, and mainly for witches, or that there’s always someone learning a life lesson, but there is just not enough room to tell it all. Suffice it to say, these are witches getting their happy ever after, and all they go through to get it-surrounded by love and magic, at every turn.

All of these books for the most part, top the Amazon charts when they are released, and if the reviews are any indication, are very beloved by all that read them. They certainly were to me. As I write this, eight of these books are listed in the top twenty fantasy reads on Amazon-including the top two spots. If it was me, I would start with A Modern Witch, the first book in the three series featuring these witches. I recommend them to ages 14 up.

Very bittersweet book to read, since I knew it would be the last book about my dear witches. I almost put off reading it, so I'd still have something 'new' to read, but in the end I couldn't wait. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that Debora Geary gets attacked by plot bunnies sometime in the future after all ;)

That said, having read this I can understand her decision. I don't mean to say that it's badly written or anything, but for the first time ever the book is plot-driven rather than character-driven... Which makes sense, if she no longer feels like she can draw on her personal experiences to write the characters - then the plot would have to take center stage. And it feels weird to say, because usually I prefer plot-driven books, but this series is apparently the exception that proves the rule, and I missed the crazy asides that has made me come to know and love the Witch Central characters so. But Debora Geary was determined only to "add words that were worthy of Witch Central" and I understand and respect that decision. And at the end of the day, I think she succeeded very nicely.

I am very sorry to see the end of Witch Central - it has meant more to me than almost all other book series I can think of - but I wish Debora Geary all the best for the future, and thank her for the hours of joy and love she has brought me through these characters.

She hasn't stopped writing completely though, and I will make sure to continue to follow her under her new pseudonym.

The final witch series book! :-( While there was clearly some room for the series to develop, the book deals with the developing powers of the next generation, and brings some characters we haven't seen for a long time back to join the cast. I'm sad to have the series end, but that is the way of things.

First off if you have not read the books in order it makes a big difference. I have loved the series. Major dislike of A Dangerous Witch is it is the last one. But if you change your mind we will all be happy to read more. If your a fan of the series you will want to make sure you read the last part of the book.

I love the characters. It is always good to see how they are. I like Moe. The cast is all old friends. The orb is talking again to Lauren.
A new witch is coming into power bringing some new troubles with it.

The setting for this book is Witch Central California & realm world.

You don't want to put this down even when the book is done.

This might not be my favorite book of the series, but I really enjoyed devouring it. I will read it again sometime when I will savor it.

If you have not tried this series start with a Modern Witch. It is good clean fantasy series set in California in modern times. It grabs your heart and does not let it go.

Thank you Debora for some favorite books of mine. It is a series that I have read more than twice each.

I was given this ebook to read and in return agreed to give honest review of it.

A lovely conclusion to the series. Yes... it isn't quite a traditional ending. There's bits tacked on to make it a conclusion and the author wrote it intending to continue and setting up for future books in parts. But it was a lovely emotional journey... and like all the books in the series, the journey is more important than the ending. It's about family and love and community and the books were never about grand quests that needed to be conquered. I look forward to reading more as the author continues to write under her new name, Audrey Faye.

I admit like many I waited with baited breath for this book. Both excited and oh so very sad. I have come to love the characters and the stories. To see them end is bittersweet. This book brought tears of joy and sadness as any of Debora's books do. It is a good ending for a great series.

I will miss the books and the world they created, but they will live on well beyond the ending of the page. Moira's wisdom, Nell's strength, Aervyn's confidence, Lauren's vision and Nat's serenity will live on...

Amazing... Words that teach as well as words that make you laugh and cry all at the same time. The entire Witch Central helping each other through the good and the bad. From the eldest to the youngest, overcoming the odds through love and dedication of family.
It is sad that this series has ended, it was unique and heart felt. With unique characters that made you actually feel their highs and lows as you read the stories.
I wish Ms. Geary best wishes and good luck in her future endeavors and thank her for the stories written.

I bought it and read it all in one day! This is the last of a wonderful series of books about an amazing community of witches. There are no new characters this time, but Witch Central must find a way to help a child with the emergence of the most potentially destructive fire power ever. And it's no spoiler to say there's a happy ending. Geary's books always end happy and hopeful. All good things must come to an end. Thank you, Ms. Geary, thank you.

A beautiful stunning end to an era and story

it isn't.often that characters come to life and reality in story lines...often y out just read the words...rarely do you live through the words,to be part of the story and characters. The Witch Central series did that...One wonderful walk book after book. it is really simplejust read it but not until you have read the other books in the series. I won't say more I don't want spoil it.

Beautiful ending

Like so many others I fell in love with Geary's Witch Central books. I'm still trying to process that what I just read will be the last Witch Central novel. Ever. Geary writes in her usual captivating style and I am oh so thankful for the small glimpse of the future we got at the end of the book. I hope Geary is able to work through this difficult time and I wish her well on her future endeavors.

A bittersweet ending

a bittersweet ending for a series of characters that will long live in my heart. As always tears laughter and love magically woven in every chapter . I thought a very fitting end. But I shall miss these wonderful witches . Those with magical powers and those with heart powers

A bittersweet goodbye

An ending to a world that I love, one I can hold as a candle against the dark. There will, of course, be many rereading of all the Witch Central books, but while this may not have been the ending that we or she wanted, it's still good. Yea, still good.

I've cried so much with these witches, and with Debora Geary it seems. Tears of joy and of sorrow. I don't think these people will leave me for a long while yet.

This also includes a short story: Feathers and a series ending wrap up. The main book is shorter than the normal ones, but still chock full of teaching a soul to grow, to be, to love. The magic is just a vehicle for these life lessons sprinkled through the entire series. The author, yet again, basks the reader in a family, both born into and chosen, and their resilient love and belonging. Loved every part of it.

I am so sad that this is the end of the Witch Central series. I know every thing must come to an end and that it wasn't the authors original intent to stop here, but life gets in the way sometimes. so even though I mourn the ending, I must content myself that the series exists in the first place. That being said, there are Sooooooooooooo many questions I have concerning the final scenes Moira is allowed to see and others I have wanted to ask throughout the series. If the Sullivan's are such a tight knit family, why do we never hear from the first set of older triplet brothers? Do Lauren and Devan ever have children? So many more! Sigh! I guess I will never know for certain.

4.50 Stars!!

I put off writing this review as soon as I finished the book because I hate writing reviews when I'm overly emotional. This is the final "Witches" book by Ms Geary and while I'm very sad about that, I'm feel optimistic for her.

What I liked: This story kind of hit me out of left field as I thought all the young ones in the family had already received powers if they were going to get them. So imagine my surprise when another of Nell's girls ends up with some very dangerous power. Almost none of the witches can channel Mia's power. They must all work together to save the girl which they're more than willing to do. Her power is bigger than all of them but they are determined no harm come to their own.

Almost all the witches from the other books are in this story and even though it's about Mia, in true Geary fashion, it's about love, trust and family working together to solve a problem. As usual, I had my Kleenex handy and this time for two reasons. I knew it was the end of a beloved series and the feelings pulled out of the reader by Ms Geary's words just make you feel. I like to tell readers, Ms Geary writes feelings on a page. There's no getting around it. She's an extremely gifted storyteller and I will miss this series very much!!

There is nothing I didn't like about A Dangerous Witch except it was too short and it was the last. Ms Geary was in the middle of this story when her real life fell apart or should I say her marriage. She explained that her touchstone for writing this series was her love with her family. The end of her marriage changed how she could honestly write this series and rather than "fake" it, she took the high road and ended it.

Now don't fear, the epilogue more than finalizes the series for the reader and was very well done. I was afraid the closer I got to the end of what I would find. It was a definite ending even though her fans will miss reading about their favorite characters growing and falling in love.

The good news, Ms Geary will be writing something completely different under a new name, Audrey Faye. So keep your eyes open for the first in a new series!!

Highly Recommend (but you MUST read all the other books from the beginning!!)

This book left me both happy and really sad. I loved this book and it was a fantastic conclusion to a wonderful series and universe.

I loved how we were able to see Mia and her sisters grow in this book. This was a bit of a bitter sweet read. Just for the fact that this is the last book in this universe and the last that Deborah Geary would publish. The author has continued to publish books under the name of Audrey Faye but due to personal circumstances she will no longer be writing in this witch universe or under her previous pen name.

I would highly recommend this series to anyone how loves character driven reads and lots of warm fuzzies.

I read this book during my breaks at work, it was a short book so I finished it in one night. I have to say, this book is a modern-day masterpiece. It's definitely up there with my favourites of all time.

We're introduced once more to the world of Witch Central, we already know all the characters from previous books. Geary hasn't lost her touch. There were so many places in this short book that I really had to battle against crying. The story was so touching and so heart-wrenching in places, I actually had to take breathers so I wasn't crying in the staffroom.

Since there's so little about the storyline in the synopsis, I think it's best to tell you the storyline is about an ancient magic resurfacing in the children that hasn't been seen in centuries. And wow! I really think Aervyn has met his match. Another interesting fact is that one of the main characters (for lack of a better term) is that Lauren's crystal ball/ orb/ over sized marble is one of the main characters!

As the last book in the series, I do think the series was nicely rounded off. The story does have a nice final feel to it and puts the readers mind to rest. I'll miss the characters but I'm already considering re-reading the series because I enjoyed it that much.

Overall, I'd say it was a brilliant book and a must read for anyone who enjoyed the previous books. You won't be disappointed with this one. When I saw the length of the book I seriously thought I was going to be disappointed but I wasn't. I loved it.

Thank you.

Ok, I both loved and hated this book. I loved it because we got a bit deeper into the Witch Central world. The characters just make you fall in love with them and the story was excellent. Debora writes her characters so well that you can't help riding an emotional rollercoaster as they deal with whatever predicament comes along. In this case, she's been building up some of the children and some of them end up in mortal peril. If you're a parent, you just want to jump in and help protect them.

Now, the reason I hated this book is that it is the last one in the series (three of my favorite series close this year). To me, this has been one of the most incredible series I've read. No, it doesn't have super spies, crazy space battles, or intense shoot 'em up action. It has great stories of family (blood or not) overcoming adversity while maintaining a strong, loving bond. In the beginning, I thought it was overly mushy. Now that I've come to the end of the journey, I find that mushy family connection is going to be sorely missed.

The reason Debora is ending the series is valid and understandable. I won't delve into it since that is her story to tell. Regardless, a truly wonderful end to a wondrous series. If you decide to read this, make sure you read the epilogue. It's after her thank you to the fans. It will bring closure. I'm going to miss all the witches of this world, they almost feel like family. Thank you Debora. I really enjoyed the time I spent with your stories and look forward to anything else you may write in the future.

The (sadly) last in a 'series of series' about modern witches. Characters you can care about, with problems admittedly at least in part of the magical persuasion, but always involving the real world and the challenges everyone faces there (magic or no magic - you don't have to believe it's real to enjoy these). These books defy 'boxing' into one categorisation - some romance, some magic, drama, multi - generational family saga - I've loved them all because I loved the people created by the author. She has stopped writing them because her personal circumstances are such that she doesn't feel she has the voice to do the characters justice any more (which I think is admirable, if disappointing - too many writers lose the 'spark' in a series but carry on anyway, to the detriment of the worlds they have created), but has finished on a happy 'ending' of sorts - there is a short epilogue, but unlike some series it doesn't feel contrived, just...satisfying. These books will stay firmly in the (electronic) library for re-reading when I want something that will be engaging enough to take me out of my own life for a little while; and that can be relied upon to have satisfying endings (when you crave escapism, you need something that ties up better than your own messy life!) There are lots to try, so even though the series has ended you won't want for reading material if you find you like them :)

So very sad, yet so uplifted by this, the last in the era of Witch Central stories by Debora Geary.

How Debora Geary did such a wonderful job with all these books over the years, I don't know, but this one was just as good as all that preceded. No, actually, I think it's better. If someone has to end things, this is the way to do that. Our beloved witches have said goodbye, but with an eye to the future so that we may yet dream. Heartfelt, breathtaking, frightening and gut wrenching are just some of the words that come to mind as descriptors for this book. I am not a wordsmith and cannot do this justice, so just know this, if you love Debora Geary's witches this is a must read.

If you've never read these books, this is not the one to start with. Please start with A Modern Witch and go from there. There is far too much back story that you need to make sense of how wonderful all of these books are.

Debora, thank you. Many authors have continued to write a series, even after they no longer due the characters justice and you, classy lady that you are, you told your readers you could not do that. Thank you for your honesty and your integrity and all the many, many hours of pleasure that I have found in your books.

Another wonderful slice of life in Witch Central. My only complaint is that it's too short and the last one! I am really going to miss these characters now that Debora Gearyhas ended this wonderful series. These books are wonderful joy-filled books about family, friends that turn into family, friends helping friends and all kinds of love & humor. The characters are complex & well developed, even the non-human ones (the orb and Fuzzball the cat in particular). This is a wonderful series that must be read in order to really enjoy it. In this book, the orb and the Walker triplets are the main characters, with all of Witch Central rallying around to protect them. Make sure you read through to the very end to the epilogue were the author gives us a glimpse of the Witch Central characters in the future. I am so sad that this is end! I wish the author best wishes with the changes in life that caused the end of this series and will look for whatever she writes in the future.
