Her Dragon Defender: A Rapunzel Retelling

Rate this book
Eden expected to attend her first Mirror Academy Ball with her best friend, raising money for the animal sanctuary. She didn’t expect to spend the night searching for her missing friend…or to wind up trapped in a tower.

Blaze gatecrashed the ball to search for his sister, but all he finds is her best friend, in trouble and at the mercy of his worst enemy.

He doesn’t believe in fated mates, let alone that a human could be mated to a dragon. Yet Blaze might just have to believe that fairytales can come true.

USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish.
She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below.
Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all.
Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world.
The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.

This book was a quick read. The plot was intense and I'm anticipating enjoying the entire series as it comes out. The world felt rich and intriguing, something I'm looking forward to exploring more.

The romance was more steam than anything else, but I enjoyed it. The characters were fun to follow and read about. Considering this is a short book without a ton of room for development, it balanced things nicely.

My only real complaint is that one of the major plot points was left as a future conclusion, but it doesn't look likely to be covered in the only book currently available for preorder. I really want to know when I can expect to find out what happened.

I received a free advance copy from the author, but my opinions are my own.

Eden's best friend, Diana, went missing at a school ball. At the next event, Eden goes looking only to end up locked in a tall tower. Blaze crashes the party, looking for Diana, only to discover Eden and his worst enemy.

The story opens with scenes reminiscent of Cinderella rather than Rapunzel. However, halfway through, a conversion occurs. This opening appears to be the setup for this story and a later one in the series. From there, the story is Rapunzel's rescue from the enemy by the prince, leading to an HEA. Overall, this is an entertaining and engaging story.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Romantic. Scary. Steamy. Tragic. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

Short book about a girl who gets rescued from a tower by her dragon mate. Eden is in a school for supernaturals, though she has no idea who, or even what, her parents are. Her best friend went to a ball one night and never came back. Eden decides to attend the next ball and try to find out what happened to her. Blaze's sister is suddenly not answering his calls or texts. He gets no straight answers at Mirror Academy, the school she was attending. He decides to attend the upcoming masked ball and look for her, instead he finds his mate trapped in a tower.

Cute story. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

An erotic, dragon-shifters fairy tale
It’s a much steamier version than the Grimm or Disney versions. In this erotic retelling, Eden is rescued from a tower just before being abused by a villainous king. Big surprise to her—she is rescued by an actual dragon, who turns out to be her fated mate. They celebrate finding each other with a dragon mating frenzy. And as icing on the cake, she finds that she is a dragon shifter—two fairytale dreams come true: an unexpected fated mate and unknown dragon power.

Eden, an ex-foster kid, is just trying to survive elite Mirror Academy until her best friend vanishes after a school ball. With no one else willing to investigate, Eden crashes the next ball... and meets Blaze, a dangerously handsome stranger with secrets of his own. Blaze doesn’t believe in fated mates … until Eden. He’s searching for his missing sister, Diana, and all clues lead to Mirror Academy…and Eden. Full of magic, mystery, action, and spice, Her Dragon Defender is a fast-paced paranormal romance that’ll keep you hooked from the first dance to the last dragon twist.

Short story as I got into it. Did not give me what I had hoped for, was a group that came together for the Hea Sanctuary. Diana, Eden and Blaze were the ones who had raised enough money to get it under way. It’s a big telling that Diana was not anyone’s biggest concern. Finding fated mates will be a bliss and a true telling that a dragon is your knight and shining armor. I received a copy from the author and voluntarily decided to review.

This is definitely not Laura Greenwood's Obscure Academy series or Evangeline Anderson's Nocturne Academy series - while there is sweetness and a good backstory, there is also STEAM. What else can I say? I like!

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

A new series begins that was a quick read with a bit of mystery and light drama happening along with the heat as Blaze finds his fated mate. Some trouble and drama kept it light and fun. It had me laugh a few times too. I enjoyed it. Plus has a bad guy and a mysterious headmaster to a school.

A quick Rapunzel-like fairytale read with Fated mates, dragon shifters, and a more steamy slant than what you would see from Disney. Looking forward to the whole series.

A good book but disappointed we never find out what happened to Diana, so hope that gets cleared up soon! Otherwise a very enjoyable read, and I can’t wait to read the next book.
