Sunscapes Trilogy #2

Here There Be Dragons

Rate this book
This second installment in the Sunscapes Trilogy continues the epic struggle between two mega companies, deciding the fate of the entire galaxy. The Endgame has begun, pitting Shay Enterprises against Quasicore—the Shay twins, mysterious and dangerous, weave a seductive web for their ruthless, lethal opponent, Webster Griffin, whose hunger for power and control might just destroy all civilization.

Here There Be Dragons continues the saga through Nick Givliani as he investigates the unscrupulous and unpredictable Shay twins and their intriguing cohort, Cassie Draegen. As Shay Enterprise’s resident genius, driven by a dark past of her own, Cassie is their technological advantage over Quasicore. A target of both Griffin’s avarice and Nick’s investigations, Cassie desperately struggles to fulfill the next step in the Shay’s complex design against their enemy.

Honestly I found this a very hard book to read. I was expecting a paranormal sci-fi and this is a genre that I really enjoy. In reality, there don't seem to be any dragons at all - there are hints of a mysterious order but that is about it. I really struggled to get into the bookend this was perhaps due to the fact that the h seemed to be a bit of a knowitall and the H just didn't click with me. I actually enjoyed the other characters more. It also may be due to the fact that this the second book in the series and I have not read the first book. Some authors are able to get the gist of the prior events across so that there is no lack of continuity if the first book is not read however some stories are not conducive to this and I suspect the story in this book is one of these. I really did give it a good try - I put the book down for a week and then tried again but I struggled.

This book was gratefully received from the publishers via Net Galley.

In a future where two huge conglomerates fight for supremacy in space, a law enforcement official investigates one of them, because his brother works for them. Instead of doing his job he falls hard for the local AI genius caught between the two companies.
This is the second in a series, and I wish I’d read the first, because that one had the Del/Sun story, and he doesn’t get much here. Some of the world building might have been in that one too, and therefore missing here. On the other hand, the best parts are the descriptions of the company headquarters and other places—the party near the end comes to mind—as well as the accounts of the ships moving through space in their unique way.
The strangest thing is that this book is billed as an erotica, but nothing such happens until near the end.

No dragon's here, not even aliens just humans in space I think. I mean they could be aliens, but unless you read book 1 you have no idea what's really going on for 50% of the book. I just don't understand the point of this book really Nick and Cass only needed 20-30 pages, they were beyond boring. Every character smiled, hid a smile, smirked, or the corner of their mouth lifted (still a smirk). I didn't care for or about any of the characters. The H Nick is a joke everyone is making a fool out of him, the Shay twins are obnoxious, and Cass Draegen has a smart mouth (so she's fiery earning the nickname Dragon, so here be your dragon). I've only read one other book by this author and I loved it, so it pains me to leave this review.

This was an excellent story! Space, lightning fast ships, artificial intelligence, and a megalomaniac bent on world domination, what could go wrong?!? Answer, a LOT!! This is a fast paced read with something always happening, keeps you reading just to find out what happens next! Loved the story and can't wait to check out this authors other works! Thank you for the opportunity to review this work.

It was such a pleasure to revisit these characters and expand on what I'd started with Last Chance Sunscapes Trilogy Book 1 . Nick was a fun hero to flesh out, from his love for his brother and fear that he wouldn't be able to rescue Del to his struggle with a growing attraction for Cassie, a prime suspect in his investigation of the Shays. I took great delight in torturing him with the Shay twins, who together are a very scary force of nature.

Cassie was also a delight to create, the Shay's resident braincase and tech whiz. Smart though she might be and focused on her work, Nick still melts her brain and dodging his persistent investigation gets...complicated. She also gave me the perfect opportunity to explore the AI aspect of the storyline and give my super-villain Webster Griffin an even more sinister edge.

The sleek and powerful racing ships, the Shadow slicers, still have their moments to shine, but I was also able to bring forward an aspect of the storyline that had only lurked in the background in the first book: the Sun Orders. Religion is always a tricky subject, but no one can deny that faith has power, and the Sun Orders reveal that they have a part to play in this ongoing struggle between good and evil.

But of course the war isn't won in this story! The battle concludes in the third book, Dawn of the Red Sun, which I'm diligently working on now. So I hope you'll enjoy reading Here There Be Dragons as much as I enjoyed writing, and join me later for the grand finale.

This one is a pretty standard SciFi romance a good enough read if you are looking for a new book.  While this is the 2nd in the series I had no read the 1st, but without having read the it I was easily able to follow this one.  I would recommend going back to the first since much of the overall world building is based on the assumption you have information about it.  This is definitely not the final book so only a partial ending that sets up the 3rd.This review was originally posted on Books In Brogan

I voluntarily read this advanced readers copy of this book. Strong characters and a great story line. I so love dragon shifter books. I so have to go back and read book one of this series and I can't wait to read the next installment either. You will love reading about Cassie and Nick.

While investigating the Shays, Federated Planetary Alliance Inspector Nick Givliani discovers their employee Cassie Draegen is more than she seems. As the Shays’ resident genus, Cassie is the secret weapon in their struggle to save the galaxy. The last thing she needs is an FPA inspector breathing down her neck.
This wasn’t a bad book. The characters where well written and the plot wasn’t bad. My only real gripe is that I felt I had to read the first book to thoroughly get the whole overall story, especially since this one ended leading into the next book.
