A new wave of urban fiction writing has arrived! A collection of multiple stories, different situations, and drama that's unheard of that touches on the stereotypes of black women of this generation. All combining to make one full series. When you take the Urban life of Atlanta, and combine it with the drama filled life of students on HBCU (Historically black colleges, and Universities," anything can happen. Black Greek probates, parties, love, heartbreak, cheating, and men on the down low. All goes down in this 4 part series. No other words to describe this book. Better than Reality TV.
Just here to update this profile. I'm actually not 25 anymore but I'll be 30 next year haha. Still writing. Wow. Can't believe it. Current book I'm working on as I type this; Moon Child.
This is my second time reading this! The first time I was not in the right headspace. This time around I actually enjoyed it! The only two things I was not a fan of was the interracial relationship and the white character saying “nigga”. Other than that, this book had all the dramaaaa!
If you’re looking for a series that is all around messy, For the Love of ATL is the right series for you. With multiple point of views (it’s like 5 characters?), we get story lines filled with drama, lies, flawed friends, and much more wrapped in the story of college students attending an HBCU in Atlanta.
Favorites:
Amari: She was definitely my favorite because she was the soulful and eclectic dark-skinned Black girl simply being herself and everyone hated her because of it. The anti blackness that Amari received from almost every character in this book annoyed the hell outta me. For her, dance and her career are her life, but she realizes she needs to live a little after she her friends decide to not get her a ticket for a party, but only use her for a ride. Her friends were horrible as hell. While attending the party, Amari decides that she needs to live a little and have a one night stand with Jeremy .. the white boy who can’t stop saying n*gga. 🙄
Toni: The stud (but wants to be looked at as a woman who is soft as well) that stands on business behind her sister Chanel. Now, I need her to answer the phone Talin because it sounds like he has something to say? 👀
Kassem: He may be the respectful male friend of the group .. but even those men have hidden flaws. I’ll be curious to see how things play out about him especially since he wants to be up Jasmine’s ass. 🤷🏽♀️
Least favorites:
Jasmine: The hoe of the group. Yes, that’s how she describes herself. I understand that a lot of what she does is due to low self esteem and self sabotage, but girl .. get it together, please. 🤔
Chanel: She may be the baddie of the group, but she bothers me for some reason. Maybe that’s because she’s a horrible friend to Amari. Also, girlll … you didn’t see the signs? 🫣
Alexandria: Another shallow girl in this story line that can’t figure out her own sexuality, but wants to judge everyone. 😒
Marcus: The frat boy that’s made a huge mess all because he wanted to have his cake and eat it to. 🖕🏽
Jeremy: I’m not a fan of a white boy saying the word n*gga simply because his siblings are black and was raised around black folks. Anyway! I knew he’d start falling for Amari though. It’s only a matter of time before he breaks her heart because he for sure is not serious about her. 😑
Let’s move to book 2 to see what happens next for these folks!
If you looking for something messy to read, look no further, this book has it all. I’m taking cheating, lying, betrayals, men on the down low, messy-ass so-called friends, etc. In book one we are introduced to quite a few people, all young college students attending an HBCU who are trying to find their way in the world.
Jasmine- The Hoe/ Hater of the group. And she doesn’t mind the title, well that’s what she’ll have us believe but deep down that’s just a cover she uses to hide her true feelings. Jasmine is very self-centered, the only thing she is concerned about is bagging Jeremy. The fine-ass white boy with all the sauce. But Jeremy isn’t thinking about her ass.
Chanel- The Baddie of the group, she is dating Marcus the love of her life. Everything seemed perfect until Marcus started to act funny. When Chanel receives some life-altering news, she is unsure of how to tell Marcus.
Marcus- Sneaky MF of the group has been dating Chanel and is head over heels, or is he? Marcus has some very dangerous secrets buried and when they are exposed shit will HIT THE FAN!!
Jeremy- The Light Skinned White Boy, of the group. He’s a hoe! A true ladies' man. Being tied down is not something he’s interested in. He’s having the time of his life running through as many girls as he can until one girl catches his attention and doesn’t let it go! Will he put his player ways to the side or lose the one girl he’s ever had feelings for?
Amari- The dark-skinned beauty of the group has been focused on her studies, her dance career and that’s it. Getting ready to graduate Amari realizes she hasn’t had much fun in her college career, a night out with her, so-called friends (Tiffany is a snake) turned into her, making a decision to let loose and have some fun. Deciding she wanted to lose her virginity, she picks someone she never would’ve thought she would even be attracted to fulfill that need.
Kaseem- The Nice Guy of the group. He’s the sweetheart of the group. The one who can’t wait to settle down and have a wife and kids. But of course, because he’s respectful and knows how to treat the ladies he doesn’t get any play. And the fact that he has his eyes on Jasmine makes for an even more frustrating situation because ole girls ain’t checking for him.
Toni- The big sister of Chanel and one of my favorite characters. Big sis stood on business and was ready to check anyone behind her sister. Now I need more from her and Talin though because what transpired between them was shocking and I need more.
Alexandria- The Boojie One of the group. She is shallow as fuck. Like there’s no real depth to her at all, or at least we haven’t discovered it yet. I will say she rides for her friends. She’s an undercover lesbian, supposedly. That’s all we learned about her in book one.
Book: For The Love of ATL Author: Desiree Genre: Urban Romance Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🥵🥵🥵
This whole series starting with For The Love of Atl, The Carter Boys, The Carter Girls, Not Another Thug Story, Kove, Bambino, Opium, Delirious, The Skye Sisters(❣️❤️❣️), Nirvana, and Samsara (I needed to put them all in order because they’re greater reads that way) are THE BEST URBAN BOOKS out!! I have read them all and each time another comes out I re-read the whole series and NEVER get tired of these characters. Desiree IS one of the greatest young black authors for sure!
I read the Maggie Gray series and in preparation for book 3. I decided to start Desiree and Katt hall from the beginning. This is where it all began! Off to a good start.
The drama these kids had going on was a lot, especially Jasmine I felt really bad for her not knowing her worth and letting those boys treat her that way.
I DEVOURED this book so quick!! I think this book just helps me get thru my read slump it has so much drama in it and I’m here for it.
First impression of certain character :
Amari : my bby girl I love her 💓💓 I don’t like her relationship w J he’s too much of a playboy for my girl and she deserves better than that.
Marcus : do I really need to talk ? that man is a manipulative hoe who can’t decide rather his gay or straight cuz I’m sorry bby but being bisexual doesn’t mean u have to date both genders at the same time, so checked ur definition.
Jasmine : my poor bby, at first she was giving jealous vibes towards her friend Chanel but the thing she went through at the parties were just too much at this point she needs therapy and God…😔
Chanel : giiirl I just pray u find God cuz between ur unexpected pregnancy n ur deadbeat bby daddy I don’t even know how you gonna do.
Toni : my GIIIRL she might be my favorite character beside amari, I feel for her a lot cuz dressing in a masculine way but still being straight as a female is hard asf cuz men gonna suppose ur a lesbian so I get that she too wants to have a man but they just don’t want her because of her “male vibe” or whateverrrr ..that’s also why I want a follow up on her story w Tanil 🤭🤭 (well yh he cheated on his girl w her but let’s just forget that the tension was too much 👀)

My mouth stayed open half this book in shock, cause wtf you talking about... 🤨From Jasmine the hoe to low down Marcus this book was DRAMA FILLED. I just feel it that stuff about to hit the ceiling in book 2.
This was an interesting insight into several different characters. Overall it was an okay read. It was exactly what I was expecting and the story lines were predictable. Despite it being predictable; I do find myself interested in continuing to see where the story goes in the next installment.
Yoooo!! This was a wild ride and I’m loving it!! I really didn’t except to like this as much as I did! Amari and J are my favs 🤷🏽♀️ I feel like she’s going to be the one to successfully calm him down. Tho I don’t think he’s ready to be tamed yet and feel like he’s gonna do some bull shit… I’m loving their story! Toni… confused as hell 🙄 you wanna look and speak and act like a man but want to be desired by men! Like ma’am find SOME TYPE of femininity!
Jasmine… that girl just dumb as hell and depressed and needs intense therapy! I feel kinda bad for her but at the same time like girl you KNOW they doing these things to you! I need to know more of her background
Marcus and Chanel… wooooo baby I’m ready to see how this goes! The AUDACITY of him asking is the baby his when he out here living a double life!!!
Ol girl I think her name is Alex… yeah baby gone head and let the lesbian take you down cause you was almost putty in her hands 🤣😂 Nah this book was great! Ready for book 2!

I wanna give this book a higher rating simply because it’s Desiree. Simply because I now know how well she can write currently.
I love seeing the growth of artist and how they took their time to develop their craft. This book was unserious, ratchet, and confusing. But I enjoyed it.
I will always love “urban” books. I will always appreciate them. To me there is no other genre that encapsulate the diverse and engaging storytelling of fiction (other than fantasy) than “urban” fiction. There just isn’t.
Desiree wrote about 10 different individuals’ lives and made each voice sound different. She is able to convince you that her characters are real.
My mouth is still dropped at Jasmine waking up on the floor with her clothes barely on KNOWING niggas was sexually assaulting her n her being okay with it!? I’m lost for words but I’m definitely rooting for my Oreo couple. I hope he fall HARD but i also didn’t like his use of the n word... because you were raised by black people does that give you the right to use it? nahh… But the messiness of finding out u pregnant AND yo man cheating on you with a MAN I crazy work! I hope this is a reality check and she gets a new man AND new friends because Jasmine is NOT a good friend okay?!

This book pulled me in from page one and didn’t let go. The character development was top-tier—flawed, real, and so well-written that I felt like I knew them personally. The story was immersive and raw in the best way, and the writing? Stellar. Desiree has a voice that knows how to hit every emotional note without overdoing it. I’m fully invested and already waiting on the next installment. If you love bold, character-driven stories with heart and grit, this one’s for you.
I’ve been hearing so much about this author so I finally gave it a shot with her first series and it was sooooo good. I love the fact that the book takes place on a college campus with all these different personalities and situations going on. And the fact that the author is pacing the book in real time. No jumping from one day in this chapter and next month in the next. Overall it really grabbed my attention and I’m going right into the next book I’m the series.
This was MEEEESSSSYYY. A guilty pleasure that I just lapped up. Desiree Granger rarely writes with a plot but boy does she tell you one hell of a story!!!!
There was no point to this story, no deep hidden meaning. Just a look into the life of the multi faceted characters that she creates in her mind. I was completely engulfed, it was truly felt like I was there, on the sidelines looking on. I enjoyed every second of it. A messy good ass time.
This is the 3rd book I have read by this author. I am finding that I am fascinated by how her brain works and love how she tells her stories! All three books have been unlike anything else I have seen/read before!
Lots of characters to follow along with, but the storyline is fairly intriguing and piqued my interest. I found myself constantly wanting to know more about each character and their experiences.
Wow, I have so many damn questions. First and foremost what is Jeremy going to say as far as asking Marcus. And what is Marcus going to answer. Like is he going to come out? Also, please tell me that this is just a phase for Jas.. and so far I’m kind of liking Amari.
Absolutely a must read. Love the way the book is written. I love all the characters in this book how they each have a unique and interesting story to tell. This book took me back to Atlanta and that’s where I’m from so I definitely rocked with this book. Reno needs help for real lol and I fell in love with Lo
Whewww, this book was messy, and I loved every bit of it! Amari’s character was definitely a standout for me. Meanwhile, everyone else was a hot mess who just couldn’t seem to get it together. The story was packed with drama, cheating, jealousy, mind games...you name it. Total chaos in the best way!
i ate this up and enjoyed it very much! i NEED some character development from ALL of these characters in this book especially J HUNT cus no maam! amari and toni are def my fav characters so far i relate to them both in so many ways.
I came across this book by accident and CLAWD, didn't know what I was getting into!! This book hooked me and then took me down thru there!! And now I learned there is a whole UNIVERSE too?!!! Yeah, I'll be reading this author for a while!
This was a very funny and entertaining book. So much secrets. I can't wait to read part 2. They all are messy and funny. I can't imagine what the next books bring.
This is getting good. I pray Jasmine find the help she needs. Marcus is so foul for what he is doing to Chanel. I can't wait to see what happens in book 2.
