I really liked Sophie and the her was, very nice too. He tried to be gruff but Sophie's sweet disposition lulled, him in. It was impossible for him not to love her. Her brother had locked her up for a year for not talking but she talks nonstop when she left the keep. It was very cute i enjoyed it. Will read this author again.
I’m usually not one for historical romances but the blurb intrigued me so much that I thought that I’d give it a try. I’m so glad that I did. The writing was so fluid, vivid and heartwarming that I quickly grew to love all the characters and was enchanted by the settings. Every new scene carried a wealth of emotion, humor and anticipation. It wasn’t just that I couldn’t put the book down, it was like turning each page was coming home to old friends and family. Sophie’s brother imprisoned her during the past year and Colette, a true friend and absolute angel, to both Sophie and Kenneth, enlists Kenneth, who is a Laird, to save Sophie from punishment. I was completely drawn into their interactions as they found their way from friendship to love, and I adored how fascinated Kenneth was as he watched Sophie regain her spark.
My favorite part of the book, after her being rescued and taken to his castle, was when he taught her archery. The closeness of comradery, letting their walls down and the temptation of giving into their passion kept me entranced. Colette and Arabella, Kenneth’s sister and a fiery and spirited lass in her own right, are staunch supporters for a romance between the two and are not afraid to let it be known. The community of Lairds and their people were wonderful to experience as they all rally to each other’s aid and take care of each other.
There is also a three-chapter teaser that has me hooked and ready for the next book featuring Arabella’s story with her own Laird named Roman. While Kenneth and Sophie remind me of a grumpy sunshine romance, Arabella and Roman remind me of Beauty and the Beast. It’s not just because she adores reading books and he has a huge library but he’s such a tortured soul in need of healing. Roman also wears a mask that begins to crack, at least figuratively, when he comes up against Arabella’s earnest heart and determination. I hope that it’s not a long wait before this next book comes out because just as Arabella went in search of the last chapter of In the Aether that was written by Roman’s father, I can’t leave a story unfinished either. The first book is fantastic and the teaser for the next reads just as amazing. I highly recommend both the author and the series.
I loved the idea. Feral highlander with silent wife, whom he marries under extenuating circumstances. Reality didn't quite play out that way.
It broke for me very early into the book when she ceases her silence. For someone who held out from talking for a year, she just resumes talking when she's with Ken - but she basically starts blabbering when she does & he emotionally rolls his eyes. She's just been kidnapped after a year of silence and being tortured by her brother, and she has word vomit about random things as soon as she gets out.
After this, I didn't really feel the story or the characters. It didn't quite click for me as I didn't feel the chemistry or the bond building. It felt like all the ingredients, just in the wrong proportions (and not quite the right type).
So I sort of muddled through but wouldn't say this was engaging or particularly entertaining.

I loved this book of Lady Sophie and Laird Kenneth MacAdams. Sophie has been imprisoned by her cruel, spiteful brother. Who wants her to be a quite, demure woman with no opinions of her own. She had been raised by her Father and Step Mother to be an independent woman. But when her Father dies, she no longer has a protection from her brother. Her Step-Mother hatches a planet rescue Sophie from her brother. She asks Laird Kenneth MacAdams for his help to rescue Sophie. And that's all in the first chapter! Their love story is full of twists and turns, with lots of bumps on the way. The characters are well written and the storyline keeps you interested. I really enjoyed this book.
The Highlander's Silent Wife: A Medieval Historical Romance Novel, my fourth read from author Keira McCain, 191-pages of Scottish Highlander historical romance. There are so many Scottish historical romances out there, but they're popular and I read my share of them. McCain is in good company along with Jayne Castel & Glynnis Campbell. I look forward to reading more from this this author with Chased by the Icy Highlander already on my TBR list. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Brooding, tortured, hunky Highlander, enters into a “duty only “ marriage with a beautiful, young, insecure lass he rescues from her cruel brother who has mistreated and tortured her for years. This is a nice, sometimes funny, adventure between two attractive characters, both unsure of themselves and where this relationship is going.
This adventure was really interesting and exciting to read! The characters were amazing. The way she overcame her fear was amazing. Getting him to bring his walls down from his heart was incredible. Thanks for sharing your story!!!
L'idée était super, j'ai cependant trouvé dommage que notre héroïne retrouve sa voix immédiatement après sa libération. De même toute l'histoire va trop vite, du coup on se retrouve avec des petites erreurs de narration.
It started out great; however, it felt rushed and it was missing something. I wanted more, like letting her know the reason for his standoffish was due to his father abusing him. It just needed more words.
