Looted heirlooms. A dangerous fugitive. Crypto laundering.

A breakthrough comes when this organised crime boss makes an emotional decision—a rare moment of vulnerability that offers Genevieve and her team a crucial glimpse into his twisted psyche. Relentless in their pursuit, the team tracks him to a specific location, only to discover that he has a terrifying endgame none of them had foreseen.
Genevieve must decipher the intricate puzzle of his plan, connecting seemingly disparate clues to pinpoint the location of his final, catastrophic act. With the lives of thousands hanging in the balance, can she unravel the truth and stop him before he unleashes unimaginable chaos?
Estelle Ryan was born in South Africa and spent her childhood being surrounded by African beauty, nature and diversity of cultures. Her first trip to Europe at the tender age of 16 transformed her world into a much larger place, endless in its possibilities and places to explore. For most of her adulthood she’s travelled all over the world, lived on a few continents, explored numerous cultures and still is insatiable in the quest to still the hunger for more life experiences.
She’s written for numerous international magazines, was the editor of a European lifestyle magazine and has seven romance novels published under a pseudonym. With her interest in international politics, arts, crime, behavioural psychology, criminal psychology and music, she decided to combine all these elements in her writing. And so Genevieve and the team came into being.
She is an unabashed coffeeshopaholic. Good coffee, ambience and music in the perfect combination is all that is required to turn a mundane coffee shop into her 'office'. The appropriate coffee shop is chosen depending on the mood, the weather, the type and amount of work that needs to be done, and of course the craving of the day. All of her books have been written in numerous coffee shops all over the world.
Estelle is back to adding more description in her books! YAY!! I so missed that when she converted to novellas. It was like the characters lost some of their personalities. This was still shorter than her first books, but it was still more satisfying than the shorter books. However, I think that is due to Genevieve's growth over the years. Much less about her autistic shut downs, as she doesn't have them as often.
The one thing I missed was when the team all got together to try to solve the mystery - the descriptions of Francine's hacking, Genevieve's frustration over dead ends, her lists and diagrams, and more of the personal interactions between the characters, like when they are all holed up at home (or wherever they are, if they traveled), working late into the night to solve a mystery before time runs out and Vinnie cooks a huge meal.
I was glad to see that she fit Phillip in the book, even though Genevieve no longer works for him. I think it's time to have another mystery surrounding Phillip and Rousseau & Rousseau. Hmm. Maybe his investigative team is not as good as Genevieve's, and someone brings a forged painting that is still missing after being stolen in Nazi Germany to insure.
Definitely a 5-star, as is the rest of the series and can't wait for more! Estelle stumbled on a goldmine when she wrote the first book in the series.
. “You are not your worst moment. You are the sum of the love and the respect you leave behind.”
Quite a statement as we go from possible WW2 confiscated art to cryptocurrency in the span of 200 pages.
The sale of art long believed to be part of the German Nazi retaliation on the Jews has been discovered and Colin is re-connected with a past fence which leads them to the long ago past and the very present issue of gold and cryptocurrency.
As usual, Author Estelle Ryan teaches as well as reminds us those who do not know their history are possibly doomed to repeat it as she also speculates about the still lost treasure from World War 2. Highly Recommended 5/5
I continue to enjoy this series mostly because the group of main characters seem to be folks that it would be enjoyable to hang around with in real life. Sure, there's not concern about money and maybe that's not very realistic, but if I want realism I'll read the news. Bottom line: they are all generally good folks working together for good purposes.
In this case, it comes to their attention that a piece of artwork recently auctioned in Spain may, in fact, be of dubious provenance. Further, there's a clear connection to the criminal mastermind, Ivanov, who they've had dealings with in the past. When connections to artwork and gold looted by Nazi's begin to appear, things get more complicated.
There were a handful of editing errors -- typos in the form of missing and repeated words -- but that didn't really affect my enjoyment of the story as a whole. Will look forward to getting the next book, due out in a month or so. These are NOT in Kindle Unlimited nor in most libraries, though they do seem to be available via Hooopla. But they're well priced for good reads.
A call about paintings being auctioned that are on a list of stolen works by the Nazis from the war reaches Colin and Genevieve. They travel to Spain, where Natalia, a police office who called them, is able to get her superiors on board to investigate.
They learn who bought and sold the paintings, and with Francine’s help, establish that it’s through Ivanov, a powerful man who took over the Bulgarian president’s company and is using it to commits his crimes.
The link between Spain and Germany during and after the war means many people benefited from the looting of art and jewellery. They speak to an elderly man who remembers removing valuables against his will as a youngster and carrying the guilt, which he now has a chance to make right.
Their work leads the team to more stolen works at various locations, and these link to other powerful people connected to Ivanov.
It turns out Ivanov’s family had their valuables taken from their home and he wants revenge against the powers that be who have kept his treasures.
He makes a threat to the water supply, and it’s only through the cleverness of the team working together with the police that prevents cyanide from being added to a water filtration plant, and this time he’s caught and the people are saved.
In this story, the madness of Ivanov is terrible, but the complexity of the damage done to his family and those responsible a generation ago makes a certain kind of sense. I loved learning about how much Spain was influenced by Germany and became allies that allowed for such criminality.
I really like reading these books because they're educational as well as exciting. Also I believe I'm neurolatypical and it helps me understand myself better. I especially like the videos at the end of each book to further educate myself on the topics involved. I love her writing.
Genevieve and the group continue the search for the Romanian crime boss and get drawn into the sale of artworks last known to have been looted by the Nazis in WWII.
Following the formula, Genevieve and family travel, solve vast criminal puzzles, make new, expert friends, and love one another. It is heartwarming, how Genevieve's great love drives her to push her limits to protect them.
We had the usual great interaction with the characters. Love seeing Genevieve’s growth. I’m still waiting for more on Colin!! This mystery involving art stolen by Nazis was interesting and well researched as usual. The threat was unusual for what I’ve read so that made it more interesting as well.
