Juniper has gold eyes and is told that her scent is unappealing. She meets another omega, Kit, and he “saves” her by taking her away from bad heat helpers. 10 years later they’re still together as “roommates” and heat helpers. When Juniper goes into heat they get a pack to help her. There is just one BIG PROBLEM, the pack that is brought to help Juniper is Kit’s scent matches, his mates. Now Juniper feels awful, Kit wants Juniper to be the second omega in their pack (even though the two of them have never had sex before) and his new alphas are all over Kit, but willing for his sake to accept Juniper.

I have enjoyed several of the poisonverse books, this is my least favorite. I understand that in the poisonverse it’s a true polyamorous pack (everyone sleeps with each other) however in Vex’s story she was the focal point, the important one, and they eventually (through groveling) showed her how important her gold pack status could mean to them. In this book it’s honestly ALL ABOUT KIT. And frankly Kit annoyed me to no end. Yes, yes, he’s sweet, has a great scent and calming nature…he’s the perfect omega. But, oh gosh, he’s SOOOO BORING! It’s annoying. And he’s scent matched TO ALL THE ALPHAS! It would’ve been much better if Juniper was the scent match to a few of the alphas, it would have made things more “even.” Even though Kit harbors a “crush” on Juniper and wants her in the pack, honestly the author writes the story more as if that’s the only reason Juniper is accepted, because Kit wants her there…and oh, her scent isn’t too bad (yuck, oh great, thanks, she doesn’t stink). Juniper is an AWESOME character, this book should have focused on her, and her overcoming and being a part of a “made for her pack” I hated how into Kit the pack was. And I hated that Juniper was honestly treated as a side thought. Sure there were some sex scenes with her, but there were more with Kit. And her heat was even discombobulated and interrupted. She wasn’t given any 100% true attention. All the attention that was paid to her had to be SHARED with Kit (who again, came across as a weak, whiny annoying omega character). I can’t understand why after writing strong omega female characters we get a book that’s more focused on a weak annoying male omega. This wasn’t Juniper’s book at all. It was Kit’s book with a SIDE of Juniper. I was thoroughly annoyed and rather “yucked” out, as well. This book was way more a gay omegaverse than a bi, or gender fluid one. I don’t know if I’ll continue reading this series if this is a sampling of the new “offerings” from this author. This book should’ve been titled “This Pack of His.” Very very disappointing!!

Okay so there was a lot to like about this. The plot was interesting and the characters were super interesting and I wanted to get to know them more. My biggest issue was there was so much miscommunication. I don't typically love that as a trope but it's fine to a point, there was just so much.
I feel like a lot of the big conflicts were a bit rushed through and I don't think we got enough developments with the individual relationships. Honestly I think if that was a duet it would be incredible as it would give everything room to spread out a bit.

This book had good bones to it. I liked the idea and direction the author wanted to go in. The reason I’m rating it so low is because it has so many flaws with it.
1) I didn’t like how gold pack omegas are crucial to this universe and we didn’t delve into that at all. The threat of a dark bond, being outcasted, having nothing to their name…that was mentioned for maybe 2-3 pages and didn’t hold an integral part on the story like it should’ve.
2) I couldn’t really connect with the alphas, it felt like they were just there to be there. They had no depth. We didn’t get to see them do anything but take up space in the apartment. They’re paramedics, I expected to see them called away for work or see the effects of that supposed trauma. A real missed opportunity for a severe accident to happen and it ended up being the omegas as victims.
3) Kit and juni…I could not feel a connection between them as more than friends. They felt like best friends the entire story and when they came together I felt like “sure jan…”
4) juni joining the pack. It really didn’t feel like they wanted her beyond her and kit being a unit. Kit being the scent match and juni just being a plus one doesn’t sit right with me. It still felt like shit was a pity member. The pack overall felt like a bunch of bros and their friend who happens to be a girl.
5) there were so many things mentioned that obviously made the characters who they are but we didn’t get any insight in to them. this just felt like a ton of stuff cramped into 5 days of living together and I’m expected to believe there was real chemistry and depth.
The ending was very abrupt, it felt like there was supposed to be another scene but there was none.
I read all the poison verse books because it’s one of my favourite worlds. Compared to 2-3 I’ve read by other authors sticking their toes in, this is by far one of the better ones and I recommended it over them. Meaning if someone asked, I wouldn’t tell them to skip it like the other ones.

Katy Black may be omegaverse author Marie Mackay’s sister, but she is no nepo baby: not only does she already have a novel already out (a paranormal romance), but her writing chops are clearly up to muster, because This Pack of Ours is a fantastic read for fans of double-omega, LGBTQ, polyamorous, omegaverse romances.
There is a lot going on in this book, but it’s still so good to read a standalone. A lot of authors would’ve been tempted to stretch this material out into a duology, maybe add in additional spice scenes for the sake of filler material, but Black opted for one book with a tighter plot, faster pace, and intense emotions. High stakes with high reward. I have a feeling if this were stretched into a duet I wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much.
What worked most: The double omega relationship and plot arc, the grumpy alpha (my favorite character in the whole book), and the huge amount of pining (omg the pining the size of a pine forest).
It was a great omegaverse debut, and I’m absolutely confident that if Katy Black decides to write another omegaverse novel I’ll certainly read it. 4⭐️

Juni deserved her own scent matched pack, honestly. It felt like she was second best for most of the book. I had to stop reading it because I just couldn’t see how they would make it work.

If you're looking for a high angst omegaverse, then this one's for you. Best friends who are madly in love with one another but too scared to voice their feelings in case they ruin everything. A pack that is perfect for one of them, but scent matched to the other. And want. So much WANT. I was held captive by the longing for their HEA, and stayed up way too late to get there.
As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a ton of miscommunication (or a complete lack of communication). It does yield an angsty read, but it does seem a bit excessive.
I appreciated the Alphas' attempts to bring Juniper into the fold, but I still feel (half a week later) that she was a bit of an afterthought once they found out that her BFF was their scent match. They should have done more to bring her into the fold, not waiting until they almost lost her completely. Here is where healthy communication would have alleviated so many issues.
This is a mixed-burn and spicy, why choose romance with MM. A complete standalone in the Poisonverse that ends in a HEA.

SPOILERS!!!!! (YES I AM THAT PERSON)
So I want to start off by saying I got the ARC and I am not sure if there is a difference or not to the book yet to be fully released.
Please note there will be spoilers for parts of this book.
Also note this is my first book review.
Now on to the book...
I must say I LOVE the poisonverse books... And the layers they add to the omegaverse lore.
I loved that along with some of the other books I've read it this series, the deeper into the book you read the more funny, charming, and heartwarming; the characters development grows. I found myself laughing out loud at a few of Ez's lines.
But the story between kit and juniper is friends turned lovers goals (as much as omega books go anyway).
I want this review to be more of what I liked and didn't rather than rehashing the plot.
With that said...
The reason this is a four star review and not a five -again It could change in the main book if it's different- but the fact that they mention the different bond types for gold eyed omegas...
Including princess... And dark bonds.
Now if it was only mentioned once or maybe twice to bring relivency to the same universe, I totally understand. But when it's almost a main focus and there is NO mention of what bond juniper gets... Well I'm a little frustrated. If they explained that because of kit and having two omegas, that the pack need them to have the same bond.... Well that fine. I can understand that ... If that was at all mentioned but now I feel bad for the character (juniper) who I've now spent the entire book getting to know to not have the chance or even get it mentioned. Like you CAN NOT convince me that kit would have 1) aloud her to get a dark bond and if she did (with her and his alphas - not that I think that would ever happen) I doubt he would have then bonded with them (sad and slightly pissed we never see kit get bonded) 2) that kit never had a conversation beforehand or at the time of and ask for her offered the princess bond.
And I hope when the book comes out fully we somehow get an bonus epilogue or two... What are those two you may ask... Well I'll tell you.
1) the epilogue for the epilogue in the book.... Like ok now the book is left with her in the her room screaming into a pillow... I NEED ANSWERS.
2) kits heat and bonding... Because we never see his heat... Like at all... Juniper has two! So... Ummm... Yeah... Two bonus epilogues
3) Or option three... One longer epilogue that cover both topics above.... Thank you.
Now my closing thoughts:
While some concerns above may denture some readers... Anyone who likes the poisonverse universes will love this book (with a little less trauma in my opinion than others in the series). I loved reading it and again despite concerns above I feel fine with how this book ended.
It is a great addition to this universe and I'm glad I got the opportunity to read it.
I love that this author is the main writers sister and the support she has for her and that In itself made me want to give this book a try. I hope more come for this author and more additional books to the poisonverse.

There is a lot to like about this omegaverse including an abrasive heroine and mutual long term pining. There's plenty of angst here, plus relationship progression between two of the alphas. I also love that the alphas are working class and dont have tons of money to throw at problems.
On the other side, there isn't really enough time to dig into any of the alphas here and I felt largely disconnected from them. The potential was there, but there wasn't enough page time to develop their relationships with one omega, let alone two. There is a reason that most why choose/poly omegaverse romances are either super long or split into two, because you just cannot do the satisfying work you need to do in 300 pages with that many characters.
And despite reading two different authors in this same world, I don't actually understand the gold pack omega thing from a fundamental world building perspective. Oh well. I still had a pretty good time reading this.

I absolutely loved This Pack of Ours! It was everything we love about the Poisonverse!
This story was complete with angst, hurt/comfort, mutual pining, heats, knotting, and so much miscommunication and drama - I loved this. I love the dynamic between them all as they formed their little pack even though all the little bumps along the way had me crying/screaming. I couldn't get enough.
The cameos and mentions of other characters from books in this shared world had me *squeeing* in delight.
Katy Black nailed this and I hope we see more omegaverse from her in the future!

4 Alphas and two Omegas

The plot was unique having both fluffy and dark themes. I both laughed and cried reading the book. I usually prefer the scented match to be the MFL. That was the only thing I wasn’t super fond of. That was fun and cute. I was so annoyed with the noncommunication. It drove me crazy that so many of the characters were not talking to each other about important things. But, the characters were adorable in so many ways.

I really enjoyed this story It was very entertaining. there were so many different little working parts that eventually came together to make a very strong and grounded pack.

I'm always sad after a 2 omega book
This may not be a fair assessment, but I'm always disappointed by a male and female omega in a book. She gets f-ed over most of the book while the dude gets all the love and the attention. This one was a little better but still disappointing to me. If the female is in the heat, it should be just about her, not others together in the background. Not a fan of the trend of having everyone together orgy style instead of showering her with attention that she needs.

This was largely a M/M or polyamory romance that's narrated mostly by a female. And if you like your female leads to be shrewish harpies who go around flipping people off and screaming "f--- off!" about a dozen times to the alphas who are trying to get to know her, then this is the book for you.
Me? I am over the "sassy" heroines who are nothing but bitter and unlikable people with no redeeming qualities. She did run a safe house for omegas, so I guess that was one redemption, but my gosh, she was insufferable! I didn't care if she got her HEA. In fact - mild spoiler - when it's looking like she might choose another pack, my thought was: Good riddance.
It's good I didn't like her though, because she definitely didn't get a winning HEA. They tried, but so much emphasis was placed on scent matches and focus was on Kit (like I said, it's an M/M romance narrated by a woman) that by the time the rotating date happens, I was thinking it's a nice show to get two-for-the-price-of-one, but the only one I felt like had any genuine feelings for her was Vander. I was actually waiting for him to say that she was his scent match, based on his reaction to her and lack of reaction to Kit. But nope, he hops in bed with Kit at the first opportunity and it then felt like, Juniper, who?
As for the rest of the characters, the alphas were okay, although the other Omega, Kit, bugged me quite a bit because he acted like a child. That was disturbing, given the fact that he has many more intimate scenes than the FMC. I also got a cheating vibe from so many instances - I guess it wasn't really cheating, but it felt that way for more than one love scene and it had me skimming love scenes because it was uncomfortable. And it felt like cheating on all counts - Juniper is using his pack mates; she cared for them first and Kit is like "screw you! Literally!" as he makes the rounds with all of them and doesn't give a flying rat's ass that he's hurting his best friend; and then the two of them are getting together and that felt like they were both cheating on the pack. Nothing was spelled out - in fact, so much would've been better if any of these people had actually tried talking to each other. As it is, the cheating vibe was...
It was a three star read - I gave it a star for the decent grammar (I noticed two mistakes, which - in the self-publishing era - is like striking gold when it's so few) and two additional stars because the story was compelling and I liked the plot, even if I didn't care for either of the omegas.
I also didn't like that there was no resolution with the two runaway alphas of a violent pack, emphasis on the adolescently named "Princess Bond" (I've criticized the Poisonverse for this before) but no offering it to the woman they allegedly "love," no mention if she got her money back, and no clear story on her past trauma. We get the general idea, but it's like trying to peer through shadows to get the truth of what happened, and she never tells the pack. I didn't count off for any of this in my rating because I did skim a bit near the end, so maybe I missed some resolution with one or all. As for the Princess bond, maybe the bond they have is more powerful? Or different? Or just a 'slap a bond on her so she'll shut up and we can have Kit with no impediments' type of bond? Unclear.
If you like the current trend of ball-busting/ripping a new asshole into men is my favorite hobby/I don't need no man! type of heroines, then this would probably be a good book for you.
Me? I am over the "sassy" heroines who are nothing but bitter and unlikable people with no redeeming qualities. She did run a safe house for omegas, so I guess that was one redemption, but my gosh, she was insufferable! I didn't care if she got her HEA. What a WONDERFUL OV debut for Katy Black. You can tell this book was written with a lot of dedication and knowledge of the Poisonverse. The writing genes in this family are definitely present.
Good points:
Story: Very well developed and written. I normally don't go for just fluffy reads, but this totally didn't feel fluffy even though it was if it makes sense?! It had some subtly dark elements, it had conflict from the already established Poisonverse universe, it had conflict between characters and with themselves, it had excellent pacing, and most importantly it had a very solid resolution to the building climax of the story.
Writting: Fantastic. Her way of writing just speaks to me. I was able to feel everyone's emotions, their struggles, their wishes, their fears...even their joy and heartbreaks.
Characters: Wonderful. I loved them. Especially Kit and Vander. I didn't know I was weak to fluffy, cute, pink-haire bespectacled omegas! And Vander is the type of grumpy, angry, alpha but secretly a softy deep down that always become my roman empire. Jhin was a good pack lead, always making sure everyone else is taken care of. And I loved Adrian's shyness and Ez's funny-self. Juniper...I struggled with her a bit. I understand her issues and I do like that half the time, she doesn't mean what she does or says. But it annoyed me a lot to see her treat the other Alphas like shit and be a bitch when they have been nothing but nice. Regardless, she grew on me by the end. And the development of her story was still very well-fleshed out. Plus, the contrast between her and Kit worked very well. They complimented each other beautifully.
Relationships: Juniper and Kit's relationship was such a roller coaster to read about! You could tell how much they love each other and need each other in a way that is borderline toxic (which I loved), and also how much the shift in their circumstances slowly affects them. What stood out the most was the uniqueness on how all the characters navigated their relationships. How Kit was their scent match and they are undeniably drawn to him, but also how Juniper so effortlessly also fit in the equation. She was never once treated or considered an afterthought or an add-on. The Pack saw her for who she was and wanted her. I really loved that about this book. It was done so so well. And of course, I love Vander and how he is with Juniper in particular. Since the start I felt he would be able to understand her at a much more visceral level.
Critique:
Relationships: Jhin and Vander's relationship could've used some more polishing. The whole issue with the Pack was precisely Vander's closed bond because of his feelings for Jhin which he was hiding. It was described as a BIG issue and one they needed to deal with. However, this conflict was suddenly thrown as a backburner once Kit and Juniper came into the picture. And it wasn't until the very end that we see it actually brought up and faced head-on. I feel that it would've flowed better and felt more consistent if this conflict with Vander had been better tied to Juniper and Kit involving themselves with the Pack and lead it to the resolution we got. In addition, we didn't really see much of Jhin and his own conflict in the matter.
Characters: I just wanted a scene with Kit and his heat. And also a bit more detail and closure to their bonds. I do wish we'd have seen a bit more of Adrian and Ez since sometimes their personalities ended up a bit too similar. And Jhin could've had some more spotlight.

I adore omega x omega stories —they're my ride and die—so when I saw that this book featured that relationship, I had to read it. I finished it in one sitting and can say it was entertaining. It's a good omegaverse—especially seeing as this is this author's first omegaverse story—but it fell short on character development.
This story consists of a pack of four alphas and two omegas. The alphas are Jhin, Vander, Ez, and Adrian. The omegas are Juni and Kit. It's a multiple POV story so you get at least one chapter from each of the main characters' POV. (Also, I'd like to note that a chapter may start out in/be titled as one character's POV and then change to another [this change is labeled], so you get more than one POV in a single chapter.)
You get to know Juni and Kit—seeing as they are the main characters—more than you get to know Jhin, Vander, Ez, and Adrian. Vander is the only one of the four alphas that I would say you don't get to know superficially. You get more of his backstory and emotional turmoil than the other alphas because he's the “stubborn one” or the “bully” in this pack. Jhin is the pack lead so you read about him a lot throughout the story. Ez is the comedic relief—I loved him, his scenes always brought a smile to my face—so he's always there when the mood is low or the characters are stuck in their heads. Adrien is kind of a ghost. There is one chapter from his POV and he isn't really mentioned, except for a few occasions after that. It kinda felt like he was the sixth wheel and the pack consisted of three alphas and two omegas, which kind of sucked because he was my favorite character (he’s such a sweetheart). I think the main reason for this is because Adrian had no defining personality or role aside from being Ez's brother. Juni is the Grumpy, Kit is the Sunshine, Jhin is the Pack Lead, Ez is the Fun One, and Vander is the Stoic One.
There is MM in this story and it's written well. I really liked how there was an emotional connection and not just a physical one.
This story features a lot of angst. The whole plot is back and forth between “I want them/him/her,” “I don't want them/him/her,” and “I can't have them/him/her.” It’s definitely a lack of communication plotline, so if that is something you do not enjoy reading, I would stay away from this book. BUT, don't worry because this story does have a HEA—🎉 “CHEERS!” I really liked the ending, it truly embodies this pack 😂.
Now, the PoisonVerse universe is not my favorite OV world, however, this story is a great addition to that universe. The bullying is really tame, so if you don't like that trope—which I loathe btw—don't worry. There is also no cheating or other woman/man drama, so it's a relatively relaxing read.
If you're looking for your next—or your first—omegaverse story, give this a try. It’s very relationship-focused but does have a smaller plotline of helping other omegas feel safe and receive the aid they need during their heat.

This was a pretty good read, especially considering it was the author's first go at the human omegaverse genre which actually surprised me when I read it in the afterword notes.
Overall, it's a really enjoyable read. It tugs at emotions and has you feeling for the fmc. I just would have preferred a little more focus on each of the guys, and their individual relationship and character developments.
As a standalone, and someone who hasn't read the other books in this shared world yet, I do think this could have maybe benefitted having a bit of a shared universe information page in the front matter. Eg, describing what dark/princess bonds are and the difference between them, gold pack omegas, their version of ruts (which are kind of described as going feral but there's also a ferality in this too), etc.
I loved Juniper and Kit, their relationship was so wholesome (though entirely platonic). Kit is the charasmatic, sunshine who is the equivalent of a Golden Retriever lol. Juni is the bitter grump and rightfully so. Thanks to her past, she decided not to get an injection that is briefly explained (I haven't read any of the others from this universe yet) that prevents omegas becoming 'gold pack' in that they have golden eyes and can pass on the feral gene.
Miss communication is a heavy centrepiece to this story, it's the driving plot. Juni believes as a gold pack omega she won't get a pack. She has no protection at all legally or otherwise so the 'best she could hope for' is a dark bond (slavery) or a pity bond. Anything less is, in her eyes, unobtainable. She believes she's dragging Kit down (who is in love with her). There's also two alphas who are in lust (because it doesn't develope into love yet by the end of this) with each other but hide it. One of them is the pack lead and his reasons for hiding it is he views himself in a position of power over Vander. Kind of like the boss/employee trope which was a little odd, but okay lol.
You really feel for Juni and her struggles in this and I liked that they all work hard to convince her that she's wanted not just because Kit is their scent match, but because they all like her too. However, I do think this took a lot of focus from Kit. I know a lot of people think the opposite but as their scent match, he doesn't get any on page time for their relationship development. It's all off page.
Because I haven't read any of the other books in this shared world yet, I'm not sure if the pack lead alpha holds the centre bond (everyone bonds him rather than the omega) or not but he bonds Juniper and Juniper bonds Kit. There's no other bonding in this. You don't see any of the alphas bond. You don't even get Jhin bonding Kit.

4.25 stars. Kit, the male omega lead, was forced to attend an academy by his grandmother in the hopes he’d bond a rich pack and set himself (and his family) up for life. Finding Juniper, the female omega lead with gold eyes (and therefore no legal protection), on campus, he offers to help her, then they move in together.
Five years later, they’re permanent roommates, friends, each other’s heat buddies, and they run a safe house for omegas in heat in the low socioeconomic area they live in. But, for the first time, Kit is sick as Juniper’s heat occurs and she has to organise her own pack. Jhin, the male alpha lead, Vander, his best friend, and Adrian and Ez, brothers, are the Argo pack and Juniper likes them - enough that she tells them her real name during heat and then agrees to meet them afterwards with Kit.
But, as they enter the coffee shop, the alphas and Kit know he’s their scent match. Kit always wanted Juniper to meet her scent matches and then he could ask to be part of her pack - he loves her and never wants to let her go. Juniper is sure she’s a burden for Kit and that his offer for her to join this pack is pity only and she’s far too broken to take that offer, even though she loves him too. Vander is self-destructing and Jhin doesn’t know how to help him either. Now they need to work out whether a relationship is manageable and to convince Juniper that they ALL want her to stay and join their permanent pack.
This story is sextuple POV, well written, and a highly emotional, erotic, omegaverse, reverse harem romance that exists in a shared world created by Amy Nova and Marie Mackay (I think). It contains references to other stories that have occurred within that world but this story does stand alone. I empathised with the multiple different traumas different characters had experienced and appreciated that some of those were actively addressed. I enjoyed Juniper’s fierceness and understood why she fought for everything and her independence. I enjoyed Kit’s contrasting gentleness and sweetness - the more stereotypical omega presentation but considered more unusual in a male. I enjoyed Vander’s fierceness, Ez’s fun-loving enthusiasm, Adrian’s shyness, and Jhin’s firm/stern authority - a lovely combination of personalities for a pack. I enjoyed the variety of erotic intimate scenes that supported the relationship development. I chuckled at some of the characters’ antics and enjoyed the playfulness balanced against some of the more emotional moments. I would have liked a bit more balance in perspectives and more insight into some of the relationship pairs/triads but understand that’s difficult with so many characters.

I enjoyed Vander’s fierceness, Ez’s fun-loving enthusiasm, Adrian’s shyness, and Jhin’s firm/stern authority - a lovely combination of personalities for a pack. I enjoyed the variety of erotic intimate scenes that supported the relationship development. I chuckled at some of the characters’ antics and enjoyed the playfulness balanced against some of the more emotional moments. I would have liked a bit more balance in perspectives and more insight into some of the relationship pairs/triads but understand that’s difficult with so many characters.

TL;DR - For a book written in 3 weeks (admittedly very impressive) it could have been worse. I have some gripes but overall it's a decent read and I DID finish it in 2 days so...
It was okay. I liked the characters for the most part and the mutual pining X2 was delicious angst that I really enjoyed. I liked the pack dynamic and would have loved to read more about the guys and their backstories prior to meeting Juniper and Kit. It would also have been nice to see Vander get more time to warm up to the idea of bonding, his switch up felt a bit too fast.
Gripes:
The constant references to the other packs in the Poisonverse got tedious after a while. Like the author thought we'd forget this book was part of the series without name dropping/referencing every. Other. Pack.
Made me giggle.
Made me wonder if the author made a note and forgot to edit it out.

The third act breakup had the potential to be really good and angsty and end sweet. It did not. Instead we got the most evil, manipulative pack that may as well be twirling mustaches taking advantage of an out-of-it Juniper. Then the main pack swoop in and fight them, people get hurt, two of the bad alphas die, aaaaand we're on to Kit facing down his grandma and a 'pass the omega football' date.
Any conflicts or issues outside of the mutual pining and lack of communication seems like it's dealt with within a chapter or felt like not a big deal. The final act conflict feels forced for the sake of some 'action' and could, honestly, be left out without doing much to the narrative.
Also, Vander breaks his arm 'possibly in two places' (according to the PARAMEDIC Jhin) and it's just NEVER mentioned again. DAYS later is Juniper's heat and there's no mention of a cast or even a one-off 'his arm healed quickly because alpha aura' comment. Just Jhin tying Vander's hands up with a belt and yanking him around 'roughly'.
Admittedly I started skimming at this point, but I did finish the book. It wasn't terrible, hence a 3 star rating.

I’d have to have a death wish to be hiding an unregistered gold pack omega in like, a secret underground nest hidden under a trapdoor and a rug or something.

“Like how to make a shiv?” I asked, referencing Pack Darling Part 1 & 2. Seriously, that story had power. Probably even enough to inspire someone to write a 100,000 word double-omega-themed book in less than a month after reading it for the first time, though that was weirdly specific. Welcome back to the Marie Mackay's poison-verse!
Juniper is a gold pack omega from the wrong side of town. She finds a friend in Kit, another omega, when he helps her find a pack to assist her through her heat. They become roommates, fast-friends, and "heat buddies" ensuring the other one is safe.
Years later, she meets the Argo pack when she arranges for another Heat. Unfortunately, Kit is sick and she has to brave this heat alone. They're enamored and want to court her. But before they can start the courtship, they all discover something that can ruin that future.
World building: 5 of 5
This story stays true to Mackay's angsty poison-verse with gold packs and auras. That's something I haven't seen in other Human omega-verses. We even get cameos from the Crimson Fury Pack (Mackay's Sweetheart duet) You don't have to read it to enjoy this standalone but I highly recommend it.
Plot 3.75 of 5
I was perfectly fine with the plot surrounding the pack, Juni, and Kit. The author should have really leaned into Juni's loneliness and contrast that more with Kit's effervescence. However there was a subplot where Juni meets her supposed scent matches that didn't work very well and was there for dramatic purposes.
Character building: 3.5 of 5
Some of the characters fell flat and weren't very developed. Ez and Adrian were the forgettable ones as there wasn't much to differentiate the two. Juni wasn't that likeable to be honest.
Relationship development 3.5 of 5
The relationships between Juni and her harem are uneven. Most of the attention went to Kit, Vander, and Jhin. In most of the relationships, it felt a bit superficial and surface-level. You don't really get an inkling that Kit & Juni are in love with each other even though it is demonstrated that they care deeply. Vander went from disliking her to doing a complete reversal after he learns some things from her past.

I liked a lot about this book but I also disliked a lot about this book. I was aiming for a 4 star until the end and decided my rating would drop.
- The reason for the drop is the bondings. One bite for one of the omegas (aside from the other omega bite) was not enough for me. I was hoping to see both omegas sporting bites from all of their alphas. To me, that’s what makes an omegaverse special in the wrap up. The soul binding connection is so beautiful so I was disappointed that didn’t happen.
- The other thing that was a big negative for me was the constant miscommunication. Don’t get me wrong, I know this is a trope that many like and I do too but to an extent.
- What I was most confused about was when they joined her heat it seemed like a scent match, they loved her scent and then they’re just Kit’s scent match. Why not scent match both? Although I will say I do love the way the pack handled her SMs. You don’t ever see an omega go through what she went through with her own and I’m happy with the outcome.
- I was ready to jump in and be team #kitandjuni but I’m 100% team #vanderandjuni. Vander, although the grumpy alphahole he was, was a perfect match for Juni and he never failed to be there for her and I loved that.
- The characters had their own personalities that were well written and made the conversations run smoothly. This is something I appreciate the most because it’s difficult to get through a read when the characters dialogues dont flow properly and they end up sounding the same. Not this book. You can get a good read on who the characters are and how they respond.
- There was a missed opportunity for the mfc to communicate with her pack and let them know her past and why she is the way she is. Because let me tell you, she was extremely rude through most of the book and I’m surprised the pack even took an interest in her (other than Vander ofc). Especially poor Adrian. She should have opened up, at least toward the end, to let them get a feel for why Juni is the way she is and why she can come off so dang mean lol.
I’ll leave the review at this, I enjoyed it but would have essentially enjoyed it more if there were less miscommunication and more bonding material. 😊

I would give this a 3.5 and I was originally going to round it up, but the Pack Darling comment at the end of the actual narrative made me change my mind. That shit is unbearably cringe and breaking the fourth wall for no reason at the end of such a heavy book? Stupid.
Based on the original marketing of this book and the first posted blurb, I really thought this was going in a different direction. I thought this was going to be more of the alpha pack not wanting Juniper at all and instead pursuing Kit, who refused to let Juniper go. Which he most definitely did do, for the record; it's just that the pack also made no bones about the fact they wanted her, and she proceeded to ignore every single instance of them ever trying to make her realize that.
I really need to stop reading these books with male omegas and female omegas because it really doesn't ever feel like the author treats both of them the same, or both of them well. I'm not super thrilled about the fact Juniper just kept hurting Kit by pushing him away from the Safe House work and this was resolved mostly off-page instead of her just talking to him on the page about it. She gets an on-page heat and a proposal, he gets to be there during her heat and propose, but NONE of the pack alphas bite him? Despite him being their scent match? The bullshit of it all.
However, I really enjoyed Jhin and Vander. Love to see an interracial M/M romance between two alphas. Their mutually unrequited love for each other was so good and I was happy to see them get together. I only wish I'd gotten to see their actual penetrative sex from either of their POVs.
Also, I am begging authors to stop with the miscommunication. I really do feel like there is a believable limit when it comes right down to how many obvious signs someone can have crammed into their face before it becomes clear they refuse to pick up on any of it because the author simply does not want them to. Juniper got so much attention and affection from every man in this novel and was still trying to deny any of them should care about her when they so obviously, obviously did. I know something traumatic happened to her, though it's so vaguely stated I'm not sure what it is, but good lord guys.

I loved diving back into this universe so much. I really missed it.
So we have our fmc Juniper. She is fiercely independent, kind, and caring once you get to know her, and I am kind of obsessed with her.
Our mmc's are Kit, Juni's best friend and fellow Omega. Jhin, Vander, Adrian, and Ezra. Kit is sweet and kind and is the perfect counterpart to Juni. Jhin is Pack Lead and is such a gentleman. Vander is very grumpy, but he is charming in his own Vander way. Adrian is so shy but so cute. I think he is my favourite. Ezra, he is just a ball of sunshine, and he brings humour and fun to the pack.
The plot was so good. Be prepared to shed some tears because I certainly did. Poor Juni lost everything after her heat. From that point on, she was determined to never let what happened happen again, and that's when she met Kit. Years later, they are still friends and are, in fact, roomies. Juniper goes into her next heat with the Argo Pack, but it gets intense and awkward when Juni sees a future with this pack. It kind of goes to well you know when scent matches come into play and Juniper and Kit's carefully constructed life seems to unravel at the seams. I loved all these characters and their individual relationships with each other, but I just wish there was better communication with all 6 of them. I also hoped that Juni was able to share with her alphas what she went through, which shaped her as the omega she is. It was definitely alluded to when she was with the pack more and more, but she shut it down so fast. I get why, but as she grew to trust and love them, I hoped that she would open up more.
All in all, I really liked this book and enjoyed heading back into this universe. I'm excited to see what's next...

This Pack is Ours, by Katy Black, is a multi-POV novel centered around 2 omegas bonded by what they bring to the table. In the task of survival and relying on each other, nature threatens what they have. From there, they have to decide whether what they have together is most important, or if they can have their cake and eat it too.
Right off the bat I was pulled into the world Black created. Beginning with Kit, their reactions to their environment and the people in them gave me a bit of insight into what I could begin to expect from the character, but also how I could relate to them on a personal level. This was the same for the other characters. Black is clearly talented at fleshing them out and creating them to be 3-dimensional. Realistic. Even if the reader may not feel that they can directly relate to a character's past, trauma, relationship status, etc , the characters are written so undoubtedly human that the reader cannot deny a connection. I was a huge fan.
It was no surprise that this talent extended to the creation of imagery throughout the novel. Black handpicked words that meshed together really well and allowed me, as the reader, to associate images to characters, scenes, and aromas written on the page. It is important to note that it was in no way overdone and was a perfect balance!
This Pack is Ours is a book about found family and getting over obstacles, inside and out, that present themselves in between. It definitely made me tear up in a few areas. I loved it and feel that it's appropriate for the 18+ audience, with caution to a couple of content warnings. The ending comes across as "to be continued," so if there's a sequel Black already has my interest. Happy reading!

This was the same for the other characters. Black is clearly talented at fleshing them out and creating them to be 3-dimensional. Realistic. Even if the reader may not feel that they can directly relate to a character's past, trauma, relationship status, etc , the characters are written so undoubtedly human that the reader cannot deny a connection. I was a huge fan.
It was no surprise that this talent extended to the creation of imagery throughout the novel. Black handpicked words that meshed together really well and allowed me, as the reader, to associate images to characters, scenes, and aromas written on the page. It is important to note that it was in no way overdone and was a perfect balance!
This Pack is Ours is a book about found family and getting over obstacles, inside and out, that present themselves in between. It definitely made me tear up in a few areas. I loved it and feel that it's appropriate for the 18+ audience, with caution to a couple of content warnings. The ending comes across as "to be continued," so if there's a sequel Black already has my interest. Happy reading!
