Inspired by the author’s real-life story, Chasing Air is a powerful reminder that the greatest adventures often come when you least expect them.
Allison Blanchet has always lived at full throttle. From racing down small-town Georgia streets on her bicycle in the 1960s and ’70s to feeling the rush of adrenaline in a Corvette, at the Daytona International Speedway, and in the heights of the Himalayas, Allison has led a life fueled by adventure.
But after a life-altering accident, Allison faces the toughest challenge of all: learning how to find peace, joy, and meaning amid grief and loss. Her journey is a poignant reflection on how life’s deepest struggles can also offer its most profound adventures—and how love, loss, and triumph are inextricably connected.
Chasing Air is a fierce reminder to stay curious, keep dreaming, and dare to soar—no matter where you start.
Chasing Air is a deeply moving and beautifully written novel that captures the restless spirit of adventure, and the quieter, braver courage required to rebuild after loss.
Caroline Prince brings Allison Blanchet to life with vivid immediacy, tracing a life lived at full speed, from small-town Georgia bicycle rides to Corvettes, racetracks, and the awe of the Himalayas. These moments pulse with momentum and freedom, but what makes Chasing Air truly powerful is how it slows down when life does the same.
After Allison’s life-altering accident, the story shifts into a tender, honest exploration of grief, identity, and reinvention. Prince does not romanticize pain, yet she allows space for beauty to emerge from it. The narrative thoughtfully examines how loss reshapes ambition, how stillness can be as daring as speed, and how meaning can be rebuilt without erasing what came before.
Inspired by the author’s real-life experiences, the novel carries an authenticity that resonates long after the final page. It’s a story about resilience without cliché, adventure without bravado, and hope without denial.
Chasing Air is a poignant reminder that life’s most profound journeys often begin when everything familiar falls away, and that learning how to soar again can be its own kind of miracle.
Chasing Air is a luminous and deeply felt novel about what happens when a life built on motion is forced into stillness, and how, in that stillness, a new kind of strength is born. Allison Blanchet’s early years pulse with speed and daring, from childhood freedom to heart-pounding adult adventures across both racetracks and mountains. When a devastating accident changes everything, her greatest battle becomes learning how to live again with tenderness rather than velocity.
What makes this story unforgettable is its emotional honesty. Grief is not rushed, healing is not simplified, and hope arrives quietly, earned through reflection and resilience. Caroline Prince delivers a moving tribute to the idea that the deepest adventures often happen after the crash, when we relearn how to dream, love, and soar in entirely new ways. A powerful, affirming, and beautifully human novel.
I rarely give a book five stars; however, this author deserves it. A story spanning over a woman's lifetime and filled with adventure, challenges and accomplishments. As well as heartbreak. The author clearly did her research over numerous topics. IT was a learning experience as well. I will look for more books from Caroline Prince.
