Fortescue Academy was supposed to be quiet this year. Yeah… not happening.
After saving the world (twice), Audrey Carter is ready for normal classes, dragon-riding lessons, and a semester without explosions. But when whispers begin rising from the Tree of Whispers, Fortescue’s ancient guardian of magic’s memory, Audrey realizes something’s wrong—magic is remembering things that were never meant to return.
The Directorate of Magic has sidelined her Cruxor duties, but that doesn’t stop Audrey and the Phoenix Circle from investigating. Old spells are stirring, history’s ghosts are waking, and the Bond that ties all magic together is starting to unravel.
To save the world again, Audrey will have to face the past—and discover that some memories don’t stay buried
Love Percy Jackson, Nevermoor, or Keeper of the Lost Cities? Then get ready for enchanted schools, ancient secrets, and a magic that never forgets.
The young members of the Phoenix Circle at Fortescue Academy find themselves in the precarious position of opposing the Directorate of Magic. Audrey has been temporarily stripped of her Cruxor role, deemed too young to shoulder the responsibilities. She and her friends are being spied on by the Custodians. The actions they took to heal the bond are seen as a threat to those who believe magic should be controlled. Breaking the memory erasure stone has brought back more than the lost founder, and the memories of forgotten people and broken spells are threatening the world. Audrey, Devynn, Matt, Finn, and Ellyette each have a part to play in unlocking the secrets of the magical bond.
BJ Cade continues her magical adventure series for young fantasy lovers with The Memory Ghosts. The world building is fleshed out more as we see glimpses of the past and the establishment of the Bond. Audrey learns through her ancestor’s hidden journal that there has always been a divide in how the magic is handled with fear ruling the Directorate’s decisions to control magic. The five protagonists continue to rely on the strength of their own bond to overcome the obstacles they face. Each has a distinct magical specialty that complements the others and allows them to be more powerful together. The characters are becoming more developed in each book making them relatable to the target middle grade audience. Older readers will also enjoy the wonder and mystery of this world as escapist fantasy. Ms. Cade ends this installment with threads that hint at a shadowy force looking to cause more chaos in the future, whetting the appetite for the next book.

This is the 4th in the series and like the others, it can be read as a stand alone. However, I think it is easier to read the series as it helps to understand how the story line unfolds and how the different characters interact and fit together. In book 3 we found out that Magic was disappearing which set our young group to really try to figure out was is going on before everything around them collapses. I do go back and forth thinking that Audrey and her friends are too young to 'be in charge' but on the other hand, they are working hard to find the truth and keep the Magic alive. I can't imagine what direction Book 5 will move in but I'm looking forward to getting my copy!.

The Memory Ghosts by B.J. Cade is the fourth book of The Big Book of Forgotten Spells Series. My son and I both enjoyed reading book 4 in the series. In book 4 Audrey and her friends work together on an old mystery and heal an ancient tree. This is a great book/series for kids. My son and I have read all 4 books together.

have loved those series from the start but i desperately need more ruffs in my life that talking racoon made my day. Audrey magical adventures continue as she learns through her ancestor’s hidden journal that there has always been a divide in how the magic is handled. What can she and her friends do about it? Audrey and her friends must also work together to heal an ancient tree.
