I have not read an Amish Story in a very long time. This one was very well written and the mystery was well hidden.

It kept me interested until the final reveal.

Emma Kurtzler has just become a widow. She is at the cemetary with her husband, Levi's best friend, Wil. An Englisher approaches her to see if she wants to sell her land and farm. Where would she go, how would she live. Wil tries to get him to leave her alone.

A murder happens in town and the detective thinks that it was Emma. She is at a loss as to what to do, but some other widows in town befreind her and help her with a plan that they think will get her out of trouble.

The widows are good at helping her, but they don't find the murdered.

It was a 5 star book and well worth the time to read it.

This was a different type of Amish book dealing with a group of widows who get together to solve crimes.Emma's husband recently died and an Englisher comes around wanting to buy her land. After an Amish man is murdered, the widows start their investigation. They solve the murder and Emma has already received a marriage proposal.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the premise of the Amish Widow's Secret Society to solve mysteries within their community. The widows were delightful, and the mystery was intriguing. The author included a blooming romance for Emma within days of her husband's tragic fall at work. In any culture it would appear rather outrageous; in the Amish culture it seemed ludicrous to me. In fact I laughed out loud occasionally as it seemed just silly. For me, it undermined what could have been a wonderful book. Sadly, it also affected my rating. I will though try subsequent books as I like the premise very much.

Fantastic

As someone who loves Amish fiction this book is all that I expected and more! There is an interesting cast of characters, a sweet budding romance of sorts, and a not so easy to solve murder mystery that really has a great punch at the end. The story never lags and it leaves me anxious to read the next book in the series. I am so glad that I stumbled upon this author's work, it's really a refreshing change of pace for the typical Amish read.

Emma Kurtzler (Amish) was now a widow.
Levi Kurtzler (husband) had passed away.
Wil Jacobson (neighbor) did his best to comfort her.
Elsa-May (elderly widow/sister), Ettie (elderly widow/sister), Silvie (widow), & Maureen (widow) had a club meeting quite often.
Bessy takes the community’s unwanted items & gives them to people who need them.
Mr. Devin Weeks came to tell Mrs. Emma Kurtzler he put in an insurance claim for her husband’s accident.
Maureen arrived at Emma’s house to give her a ride to the widows’ meeting.
The widows decided Operation Vulture Takedown would begin tomorrow.
What is Emma’s future?

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written Amish Cozy Mystery book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great Amish Cozy Mystery movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free author; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; book

This is the first book of Samantha Price that I have read and probably the last. I love reading books about the Amish like Beverly Lewis, etc. but this book jarred my perception of what a good Amish book requires. First it was less than 84 pages long, which doesn't give much time for the setting and characters of a book to be fleshed out. Secondly there were repetitive uses of words like "popping" here and there that didn't fit in with the usual "Amish" wording - popping down on a couch, or pooping up to do something (now that I think about it this is the first time I have seen the word sofa or couch in a description of a Amish living room). But, the most jarring parts of this book was the blatant disregard of common Amish practices such as not owning a cell phone or computer and/or having them inside a home and finally the way some of the older widows talked the main character in doing things that are unlawful......like breaking into the realtor's office or taking property that belonged to someone else. For me that left the impression that none of the members of the widows' group were really steadfast in their religious beliefs.

Giving a bad review is no fun

This could have been a great book. Some good lines. Loved the Windows in their "club". I have a feeling this book was written originally when the author was just starting her craft. Ms. Price does write well.

What was my main beef? The book starts with a new widow saying goodbye to her much loved husband who has tragically died unexpectedly. We learn they loved each other very much.

The author then has this same person wanting her husband's best friend arms around her. Within a month of death.

Maybe it's because I walked that road. Amish or not if there was great love you do not seek another man that soon. (Except maybe to fix something.) And Ms Price does this repeatedly. So many of the widows reactions after his death were so far off the mark. Eventually I ended with zero stars.

I could have really liked this book a lot but instead was sad that the author didn't talk to some widows first.

Emma Kurtzler has recently lost her husband. He was killed in a construction accident because he had not been wearing his safety harness. Emma is feeling quite lost without him. Uncertain of what she will do now, she soon becomes friends and part of a group or widows within her small Amish community. At virtually the same time, she has a real estate agent trying to get her to sell her farm. It seems the man already has an interested client for the property. But Emma has no wish to sell. And that’s when things start taking a turn for the worse and causing her to ask questions about a number of the people who have been her friends and neighbors for years. Can the Widows’ group help her come to terms with Levi’s death? And can they help her to find the answers to the questions she has begun to ask?

This was an interesting little mystery. It was a quick read and I thought it very entertaining. I felt that it could have used another quick pass by an editor or proofreader, but overall the story itself made up for the small errors that I noticed. I enjoyed the plot and will likely look for more books in this series in the future. For those that enjoy Amish themed stories, I would recommend this one. As I mentioned above, it was a fun, quick read.

The Amish Widow by Samantha Price is the first book in the Amish Secret Widows’ Society. Emma Kurtzler has just lost her husband, Levi, in a tragic work accident. She doesn’t know how she will deal with her grief, but Wil, his best friend, tries to comfort her in her time of loneliness and suffering. Plus, the widows in the community befriend her and ask her to be a part of their group. Maureen and Silvie are both younger widows who are also childless. Ettie and Elsa-May, sisters and septuagenarians, also are a part of the widows’ group. They join together to help Emma find out why an Englischer is trying to force her to sell her land. A murder occurs and the widows become sleuths to try to discover who did the crime. A 5-star novella from a wonderful story teller. A new series I’m excited to read.

Sweet and clean Amish mystery and romance perfect for a good bedtime story. Emma, a new widow, must cope with the loss of her husband as his best friend Wil and a group of community widows attempt to comfort her while an Englisher presses her to sell her farm. She comes to learn mysterious and compromising information following her husband's demise and that of another Amish man with the help of her widow friends. During this whole time, Wil remains by her side. Although the book maintains one's interest from beginning to end, anyone who knows the Amish realizes that it is a bit far-fetched from reality but still an entertaining read.

Who Is Killing Them?

This book is filled with lots of action, some resulting in murder, but in the likeable way that only Samantha Price can spin a story. One of the first murders is our heroine's husband. So sad indeed, but she soon found love again. Our heroine continued to investigate murders, and I must say there are many in this book. In the climax, still more murders, but someone finds true love and plans a wedding. Will the bride be our heroine? Read this book to find out.

But is it to soon after the death of her husband? Emma has some decisions to make. This is book one in the Amish Secret Widow's Society series. You love a good mystery check this out.

The Amish Widow

This was a story of love and intrigue among the Amish . One Amish woman lost her husband in an accident where he worked and his boss met with his wife to let on he was trying to get insurance for her because he died while at work. This involved the help of the widows club to help solve the murder of an Amish man as well as her husband. This was a great book on Amish living and this is my review in my words and mine alone. Well, admittedly I usually read more hard core mystery thrillers but thought this could be somewhat of a palate cleanser. The biggest problem was the portrayal of the Amish. I’m certainly no Amish expert but please..... And the romance less than a month after the death of her much loved husband. The whole thing was ridiculous. Good thing it was so short or it may have been a DNF. Just not a book for me

Cozy Mystery for sure

A totally different story for being an Amish background. Emma becomes one of the newest widows in the community with so many people most interested in her land that was left to her after her husband died from a work injury... The local women's group are all widows with some wild imaginations.. Read this first book and you too will be very intrigued at what goes on in this one community.

You can't control other's lives

Emma loved her husband deeply and was very upset when he died unexpectedly. The man who rented their land to farm decided he no longer wanted to continue renting. This was Emma's only income and she was unsure what to do. The farmer was found dead, killed by someone. Emma and three other ladies worked together to figure out what was going on. They were able to help the police solve the crime, Emma may lose her life doing so.

Levi is dead, and someone wants her off her farm; what is Emma to do?
Emma finds herself surrounded by 4 other AMish widow's who try to help her figure out who wants her farm. Some surprises here...who knew that the oldest widows were "techies" & had the police on speed dial on their cell phone! Romance was too fast for me but...an enjoyable read.

All the widows to the rescue

Emma, a young Amish woman, is widowed suddenly when her husband falls five floors at a construction site. Now alone without family or kinner, only her husband's best friend and neighbor Will is there to watch over her. But unexpected things are happening, and that includes a dead body. And she is the chief suspect.

I enjoyed this story, it is a clean wholesome story. The mystery in it was very unique, it kept the story going and it kept me crazy to the very end. I never dreamed who the killer was. I enjoyed the older Amish women in the story line. I will read another of Samantha Price, she has a way with words and it doesn't have to be an all shoot em up story. Nice for a change.

Who wrote the love letters to Angela? She's totally embarrassed to discover the man that she thought had been writing her love letters these past months was being scammed. Now here she sets in his living room, proclaiming her love for him as he stares at her like she's a crazy woman. Will the relationship find feet and grow into something or has she just wasted all her savings?

This book by Samantha Price is such a great beginning to her Amish Secret Widow's Society Books. Talk about spellbound, I did not want to put it down. You will have no idea about the end until the end is really there. A great "who done it". Thanks again Samantha for such a great experience.

This did not read as a true Amish story because of all the forbidden technology being used by the Amish widows . It took away from the storyline and its characters which were interesting
