I gave this book three stars because it wasn't as good as the first two. While it held my attention and kept me engrossed, there were a few places where I went "Wait a minute, how much time has passed?" There might be weeks, maybe even months, between paragraphs with no clean transition. The characters were also a little flat, and predictable, in some places. There were also a times where the book felt more like a report than a story. Finally, if I hadn't read the first two, I probably wouldn't have started with this one. I couldn't, I would have been lost.
I think the author tried to cram way too much in this book. The ending, however, was done much better than the first one. At least, this time, I didn't know I was driving up to a cliffhanger until I was about two pages away from it. The ending wrapped up the story enough to make the trilogy complete, but hinted at the series shifting in a different direction. Though, I worry that direction might have been done one too many times before and if not handled correctly could come off as contrived. (Sorry for being so vague, but I don't like spoiling things for other people.)
