After seeing her young family killed by a propane tanker explosion, the rest of Kristen's life seems more like a life sentence. Trying to escape the memories, she finds herself in a remote Idaho resort town where no one knows her story. Her co-workers think she's intriguing. Her neighbors think she's crazy. She thinks she's hopeless. Then she meets Joe.
Jaclyn M. Hawkes grew up in Utah with 6 sisters, 4 brothers and a large number of pets. (It was never boring!)
She got a bachelor’s degree, had a career, and traveled extensively before settling down to her life’s work of being the mother of four magnificent and sometimes challenging children. She loves shellfish, the out of doors, the youth, and hearing her children laugh.
She and her fine husband, their family, and their sometimes very large pets, now live in a mountain valley in northern Utah, where it smells like heaven and kids still move sprinkler pipe.
To be honest I just about stopped reading this one after the prologue! Wow, what a horrid experience Kristen had. I just wasn't sure I could handle the drama and sadness right now. BUT...I am grateful I kept reading. This was a great book about healing and allowing others to help us heal, especially a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to come to Him. Kristen's conversion was refreshing and based upon principles I know are true. Joe was a great guy and perfect Hero for Kristen. The middle seemed to drag on a bit as they continued to work through their relationship and the same issues...over and over again. But in the end I am grateful Kristen figured things out. The end felt a little rushed and I would have loved to have seen a epilogue, but I still felt it was a good read.
I LOVE Jaclyn Hawkes, but this is not my favorite of her books. It was a good premise, but it could have been a third shorter. The drama that Kristen goes through is horrific, but we just had to keep dredging it up over and over and over. Joe is able to reach her in ways that she didn't think possible. Joe's three boys were a lot of fun to read about & brought another dimension to the story. language: clean, heat level: mild
A book I would not have read when my children were small. The beginning was so graphic and tragic that i almost didn't want to keep reading. I love this authors writing however so kept on to get to the happy part. It took a long time for that to happen. Great ending, however I don't think I'll read this one again any time soon.
Devastated ski instructor hermit with PTSD catches the hearts of the next door pack of teenage brothers and their protective, semi-retired, father. Danger, tragedy, fear and faith ensue.
This story has great endearing male characters. The teenage sons are classic in their activities and role in the romance. The lead male is just everything women want the him to think and do. He is sensitive and thoughtful, passionate and responsible, and keeps his distance when asked but then breaks that rule when he knows you need it. He is so attentive that he can read what the female mind wants. (This could possibly be a training manual for the ideal man on how to read women.) The female lead is independent and needy but not helpless, and of course slightly blinded by her fears. The story line is engaging and keeps moving. And as always it includes a trip to the hospital.
I LOVED this book and this author is one of my favorites. There was nothing about the book I didn't like. I finally put it down at 220am because I was so tired. I love the relationship between the two main characters. I love how the author describes how Joe leads Kristin to the Lord and how he wants and needs to take care of her. I love their friendship, relationship, and their interaction with Joe's three sons. I love Kristin's inspired dreams even though she doesn't know what they mean. I could go on and on. Do yourself a big favor and get your copy SOON. GREAT GREAT GREAT story.
Romance, LDS, Christian, clean While I enjoyed the basic premise of the story, it seemed to kind of drag on for a bit. Usually I get wrapped up in JMH's stories, but this one kind of was a little slower for me. There was lots of tension, some drama, and the romance. Overall a good read, just not a great one for me. While I recognized the torn moments and complications for both characters, it seemed a little over the top in some situations/moments that made it just slightly unbelievable for me. I think in trying to get into the characters heads, and in their situations, it just went on too long? Still enjoyed the read, but not perhaps for everyone.
Very well written book. Sad story about her family made my heart ache. It made me realize you really can't judge people just by what you see. you really never know what someone is going threw. I loved the love story and how it all came about. The three boys had me laughing many times. I also realized how wonderful it is to have the knowledge of life after death and families can be together again. I can't even imagine going threw what she did and not have that knowledge. Over all good book
I couldn't put this book down. The character, especially Kristen, her love of her daughter and the relentless nightmares from her past pulled at my heart strings. This story does involve her conversion to the gospel, but I love that like the title her hearts happiness and desired answer to prayers came after the wind, in the still small voice and the warm comforter.
Their plot is good but it seems that the author was using all her skills to convert us to the Mormon doctrine. It is wonderful to write books th at honor God but the LDS doctrine is not the doctrine taught in the Bible. Also the same struggles are continuously reworked and reworked. Too much.
I enjoy Hawkes' books and this book was no exception. She creates such likable characters that it feels like I am reading about friends. My only beef was the whole " turmoil" felt to me like it went on a bit too long, otherwise it was a great read.
l liked the way the book started. Getting to know the boys on the ski lessons was great. Then when the dad started coming as a brother was funny. The way she was introduced to the church was fun. I feel like stalker dragged on to long. But I liked the book.
I liked this book, and the romantic parts were very clean. I think the story starts off very sad, but is a good story. I would let my teen daughter read this. A woman tries to build a life after a very tragic disaster in her life.
I have never read a book before that had me captive from the beginning. I cried, have laughed and felt her deep grief and confusion. What a wonderful book and a wonderfully exceptional writer. I can't wait to read more of Jaclyn Hawkes books!
This was another great romance from Jaclyn M Hawkes. I loved the story of the woman who is running and the family next door trying to ground her. Good and clean.
This sweet romance deals with some pretty intense issues: depression and PTSD. It is well written with likable characters but sometimes their troubles seem very weighty. I love Jaclyn Hawkes books but this isn’t my favorite.
