Oh My Goodness!!! Talk about a story that pulls you in and has you gripping your book, tablet, or kindle whichever you read from then this one will do it to you. Dorothy Dreyer writes a world that will pull you into it and have feeling like this is the world you live in. We start the second book basically where the first book ends. Celeste and Dante have changes that are occurring for them. Some good and some not so good. We see more of this amazing world as Dante is on the tour to legitimize him as well as Celeste and Dante’s relationship growing closer. We see and feel the emotions that play out throughout the story. This story is filled with so much drama, action, lies, and betrayals. There are so many twists and turns that it will have you reeling and saying OMG, I can’t believe that happened. As with everything that I have read by Dorothy Dreyer it is story that is extremely well written and developed. The flow of the story is superb and you honestly don’t want to put it down. Then we get to the end of this book and the amount of shocking information given has me absolutely excited to see what is going to happen next.

This was my favorite read from last month. I devoured the first and second books in two days and loved them. There are so many twists and turns that take my breath away. Celeste and Dante's chemistry is hot from the start, and the second book shows how they begin to fall in love with each other. I loved how they were continuously trying to save each other, and how they were willing to sacrifice themselves to keep the other safe. I can't wait to read the end of this series, and I'm hoping for a happy ending.

Losing her father, then her brother, Celeste finds herself in a position she really doesn't want, Queen of her realm. But ..with enemies all around, with her people starving, she is forced into a marriage alliance with Torbin, who turned out not to be the affable guy he presented. Which led to an almost catastrophe. And now she's doing her best to pick up the pieces, to safeguard her kingdom. The political manifestations just keep getting harder to navigate, for Celeste. She needs the alliance for her people but, the king of Hedera is calculating, narcissistic, cruel , violent. And he definitely has an ulterior motive, he will see Celeste under his thumb, even going as far as threatening her, he wants to rule both his and Celeste's kingdoms. And his treatment of Eleanor? Despicable, atrocious! My heart went out to her.

The entire cast was superb, the author took the effort in relaying their unique characteristics. Nadya and Ezra, now there are 2 awesome people! The ease of support, trust, loyalty and camaraderie in Celeste's squad is outstanding! They are, without question, always at Celeste's aid, whenever, wherever she might need, a true family vibe. I loved the dedication to details of each character the author scribes, vividly remarkable, and I adore Holden, even though he's a Hederian soldier, he stands by Celeste with skill, protectiveness and dignity. The depth to the characters, their individuality, was magnificently crafted. Thr author gave each one the dedication they deserved and heck did it translate!

A cross country trip, gives the travelling party a retrieve from the dreaded carnoraxis. It also leads to many clandestine moments and....ummmm...activity between Celeste and Dante, which only strengthens their bond, both forbidden by king Silas to be together during the period of mourning and the trials to legitimate Dante. Different lands, different monarchs, different trials, and each one as unique as the next. Each one as deadly as the next. But, Ms Dreyer balanced it out with the beautiful love that Dante and Celeste shared. My word is he HOT! And deadly! And dedicated! To Celeste...as these words reflect, "There is only one person in this world I would ever kneel to. And she’s in my arms right now.” And these, "You don’t know what it does to me, knowing you’re willing to tear yourself apart for me. Willing to speak up for me. Celeste, you’re my everything." I'm IN LOVE with him! What he's been exposed to, how he's barricaded his emotions, yet Celeste has broken all the shackles binding him.

As Celeste grows in strength, resolve, so too does her magic. It had eluded her for too long and now it's a deadly weapon. But gosh, she doesn't give in, not for a second! Not while facing Silas, not while facing Torbin, not even when the most mindboggling revelations hit her like a tonne of bricks, and trust me, THOSE revelations would have shattered the strongest of will. I loved loved loved seeing her evolvement, seeing her being consumed by her love for Dante and the lengths she goes through for him, the horrors she faces, the truths she is bombarded with. Through it all, she maintains dignity, sass, conviction. These two very independent characters are a readers delight, to me at any rate. I felt every ioto of everything they felt. But flippppppping hell! What the author did to them in the final third of the book, was beyond anything I could have imagined. It surpassed unbelievable, it surpassed terror, it surpassed horrific action. It made a freaking mess of me!!! But soooo extremely well done and felt!

I've mentioned in my review for book 1 in this series how much I enjoy a darker read, purely because I get ALL the feels, and this book pounded me with feels. Sometimes it's difficult to process all that has happened to eloquently describe the power of the story. A multi faceted read, tense, compelling, riveting. The author, somehow, managed to make me "hardly" notice what she was putting me through, until I caught myself holding my breath in anxiety. The complexity of the story. This book was more complex than book 1, the magic system more complex, the politics more complex, the relationships more complex, the world building more complex. Every added layer and nuance enhances the story, every dramatic event elevates the plot, which had more twists than a twisty turny thingy, my jaw opening and closing involuntary. While the pacing was a bit slower in the first half, the second half blew it out the water! I was enthralled, I was horrified, I was in agony from the unexpected! And my heart, THAT ending??? Yes, totally heart in mouth cliffhanger! Like NOOOOOOOOO, this can't be happening!!!! OMG Dorothy, please hurry with the next book!

RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended when in the mood for an epic fantasy romance adventure! There is an evil tsar, a swoonworthy prince, a bad a$$ queen, an ex you want to stab, and lots of spice! Must read book 1 first. I loved this book even more than book 1! Ends on a major cliffhanger!

GENRE, POV, TROPES, PAGE COUNT:
Genre is fantasy romance. Tropes include angst, forbidden love, arranged marriage, unique magic, witches, seer/sorceress, unpredictable plot twists, spice, plenty of action and suspense and another dang cliffhanger!

FMC:
Queen Celeste Westergaard is our FMC. She is 24 and is the Commander of the Army of Delasurvia, and she is quite a bad a$$! She speaks her mind, is strong, is smart & quick witted, and loves her people and Delasurvia. She has lost everyone in her family aside from her uncle. Her brother passed away in book 1, making her the Queen. Her uncle, General Kormac helps her rule. At 24, she should have come into her powers. If they don’t manifest, most people go mad and lose their minds. Her powers are unpredictable and harmful to her. Very curious to see what happens when that door slams wide open and her powers come all on out!

MMC:
Dante Stregasi, bast@rd son of King Silas and half-brother of Torbin, is the MMC. He disliked Celeste at the start of book 1, but when they ended up together he turned into the man we all want. He’s protective, flirty, makes the spicy content very gratifying!! He is also a fighter, loves his people deeply and will do everything he can to protect Celeste and help get peace for the lands.

STORYLINE/PLOT:
Continuing the story from book 1, Torbin has turned his back on his family and peace by joining the evil Shadow Tsar. Celeste and Dante are still new, but their love is swoon-worthy!

This story is about Dante being legitimized by his father King Silas, going on a tour to each kingdom for him to compete in each of their trials, Celeste’s stubborn powers, and yearning for Dante & Celeste’s betrothal announcement.

Following the “death” of Torbin, King Silas expects Celeste be in a mandatory period of mourning. During this time, she can not be seen with Dante in any way that could compromise them before their betrothal announcement.

There hasn’t been a legitimation tour for over a century. It is a way for a bastard making a claim for his place in line for the throne to prove his worth. Celeste and the royal court travel around to the kingdoms with him. Dante & Celeste are sneaking glimpses, kisses and visits *wink, wink* when possible. Some of these trials are difficult and Celeste tries to help by using her powers. Her powers are fighting her body and causing her harm, but she will do what she has to keep Dante safe no matter how much he protests her harming herself to do it.

I love when they finally get their betrothal announcement! Even though their celebration is rather short lived due to a certain ex.

There are some major plot twists in this book! I didn’t see them coming! I can’t wait for book 3 to get the conclusion to this trilogy to finally see Torbin and the Shadow Tsar defeated and for Dante and Celeste get their hard-won happily ever after!!

NOTE:
There are some dark themes. Check trigger warnings if needed.

THANKS:
Thank you to Author Dorothy Dreyer, Crimson Fox Publishing, and BookSirens for this amazing ebook! I loved reading it, look forward to the next book in this series and look forward to reading future books by this author and publisher! This review is genuine. Thank you!

A Sabre in the Hemlock is the thrilling sequel to A Dagger in the Ivy, weaving romance, danger, and dark intrigue into an unforgettable tale of power and sacrifice.

Tropes: Arranged Marriage, Political Intrigue, Fast Paced, Plot Twists, Adventure, Suspenseful, Unique Magic System, Sleeping Dragons, Hidden Witch Bloodlines, Wolves standing with the Fae, Steadfast Guard, Incredible Chemistry, Spicy Fae, Siren Romantasy, Games and Trials, Forbidden love, “Who did this to you?”, and Spice.

A Sabre in the Hemlock is the 2nd book in the Blade Bound Saga by Dorothy Dreyer. This is such a formidable sequel with the Highest Stakes and even greater Deepening Bonds.

I loved how Dorothy Dreyer delivered a exhilarating and emotionally charged succession in A Sabre in the Hemlock. This is the second instalment in Dorothy's Blade Bound Saga. And for anyone who enjoyed the first book, this one raises the stakes with so much more danger, even more drama, and Dorothy gave us so much more character development.

This story amps up the pace, pitching us straight into more action and the tension never lets go. What I found really stood out is how all the emotional threads between each of the characters can unravel and tighten at the very same time. We find our characters are under more pressure, each choice that is made carries more weight, and we are seeing the full toll that this world is really starting to take on all the characters – this all ranges from physically, emotionally, and even morally.

Dreyer tests all the character relationships in really very interesting ways, and she does such a stunning job in balancing all the personal moments while surrounded by all the larger plot developments. We such a growing complexity within the world-building that Dorothy has done, she adds in new layers with magic, lore, and political intrigue woven in, and yet, she never makes any of it feel like we are getting an information dump or the information we get is feels overwhelming. Dorothy's writing prevails so sharp, readable, and it almost has this cinematic quality to the action sequences and we get some very truly vivid imagery.

I can honestly say that I this is a splendid sequel and I don't think that it suffers from what most would call “middle book syndrome.” Rather, I found that it allowed the characters to continue to grow and bond, we got to know that characters better, the would continued to expand and Dorothy managed to rise the emotional stakes in only the best ways possible.

If you love YA fantasy, a strong FMC, touches of romance, sword-swinging magic then A Sabre in the Hemlock is the book you've been looking for.

And as for me, I'm going to be continuing to read the Blade Bound Saga as I think that things are just starting to get good and I can't wait to see what comes next.

I will warn you, A Sabre in the Hemlock ends on this enthralling cliffhanger that has left my mouthwatering for book three like yesterday.

First off - WHAT THE FUCK AT THIS ENDING?!?! LOL - I mean this in all the good ways, trust me! But this ending completely shocked and kinda wrecked me! I was reading the last 30 pages and being like - oh, this isn't good, OH NO not enough pages, this is bad, omg omg!

So. There is a cliffhanger here, is what I'm trying to say LOL.

The second book in the Blade Bound Saga starts where the first book leaves off, and it does not let up the entire time. We get to know more about the characters and fall in love with them even more. Well - not King Silas. Honestly, I hope his wife kills him before this series is over LOL, he treats her like shit. I didn't think I could dislike him more than the first book but I was proven wrong here.

Now that Silas' son Torbin is "assumed" dead, he turns to Dante to take his place on the throne. To do that, the other kingdoms must legitimize his succession and vote to accept his new role. Everyone must travel to the other kingdoms where Dante is put to various trials and tests for approval. I really loved getting to read about the other kingdoms, their lands, customs, and people. It really showed how big this world is that Dorothy has created.

While Celeste must remain in mourning, she is not allowed to be seen with Dante, and the King is basically an ass to her. Of course, the two work around the rules and definitely make time for each other. I really enjoyed their moments together, and even more than the physical scenes, the yearning and the small looks that they could give each other, that tension, was written SO well.

I also enjoyed learning more about Nadya and her past and powers. I really love the group of friends that Celeste has around her. I also love the casual queer normative world in this!

The ending is just non-stop action and will leave you SHOCKED! I need the final book in this series like next week, please Dorothy!!

I received a copy for an instagram tour, my thoughts are my own.

Just posting some notes for me to remember for when the third book comes out!

Diving into A Dagger in the Ivy and A Sabre in the Hemlock felt like strapping myself into a magical roller coaster where the tracks are made of fae intrigue, royal drama, and enough simmering tension to power an entire kingdom. And honestly? I loved every twist of it.

From the moment I stepped into Celeste Westergaard’s world in A Dagger in the Ivy, I was completely hooked. Here’s this half-fae Commander loyal, powerful, and just a little bit chaotic who’s expected to keep an entire kingdom together while dodging carnivorous shadow beasts, political assassinations, and an arranged marriage that absolutely no one asked her opinion about. Add in a broody half-brother who looks at her like she personally wronged his entire lineage, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for “I’ll just read one more chapter, oh look, it’s 3 AM.”

What swept me away most in book one was the balance between Celeste’s inner unraveling waiting for her magic to manifest or madness to take her and the outward web of courtly secrets. Hedera’s ivy-filled corridors felt lush and treacherous, every conversation layered with double meaning, every smile hiding a threat. And Celeste? She remains beautifully resilient, sharp, and relatable through all of it.

Then I picked up A Sabre in the Hemlock, and the stakes didn’t just rise they exploded. After the chaos at Ivystone Citadel, Celeste essentially becomes a walking target wrapped in royal expectations and ancient prophecy. She’s forced to perform, pretend, and survive while slowly gaining control over the power she’s been denied for so long. The court’s political tour had major “smile or die” energy, the Shadow Tsar’s presence loomed like a storm cloud ready to break, and every new secret took me one layer deeper into the rot beneath Terre Ferique’s glittering façade.

The second book amps up the danger, the romance hello slow-burn longing, my beloved, and the emotional weight. Celeste’s journey becomes more defiant, more empowering, and more heart wrenching as she realizes her very existence threatens the man hunting her soul. I was flipping pages as fast as my fingers would allow.

Together, these books gave me everything I enjoy in this genre magic awakening under pressure, court politics that feel like chess with hidden daggers, enemies to something deliciously complicated, and a heroine I will follow into any forest ivy, hemlock, or otherwise.

A Strong Sequel with High Stakes and Deepening Bonds

Dorothy Dreyer delivers a thrilling, emotionally charged continuation in A Sabre in the Hemlock, the second installment of the Blade Bound Saga. If you enjoyed the first book, this one raises the stakes with more danger, more drama, and even deeper character development.

The story picks up with a faster pace, diving straight into the action and tension, and it doesn’t let go. What stands out most is how the emotional threads between the characters begin to unravel and tighten at the same time. There’s more pressure, more weight on their choices, and you really start to see the toll their world takes on them—physically, emotionally, and morally.

The relationships are tested in interesting ways, and Dreyer does a great job balancing personal moments with larger plot developments. There’s a growing complexity in the world-building, with new layers of magic, lore, and politics woven in, yet it never feels overwhelming. The writing remains sharp and readable, with a cinematic quality to the action scenes and some truly vivid imagery.

What kept this from being a five-star read for me was a bit of pacing inconsistency—some sections felt slightly rushed, while others slowed just when I was hoping for more momentum. But even so, I stayed hooked the entire time, invested in both the story and the fates of the characters.

This is a fantastic sequel that doesn’t suffer from “middle book syndrome.” Instead, it expands the world and raises the emotional stakes in meaningful ways. If you're a fan of YA fantasy with a strong heroine, a touch of romance, and plenty of sword-swinging magic, A Sabre in the Hemlock is a must-read.

I’ll definitely be continuing with the Blade Bound Saga—things are just getting good.

This book started with a bang and did not slow down! It picks up with all the angst and plotting from the first book.

Celeste: She was amazing from the first book and now adding in her power on top of her already badass self made her character arc even better. She seems a little trapped by circumstances in this book but she is doing the best she can in the situation given all the people she is trying to protect.

Dante: Well - what can you say?? Our broody, sensitive, reluctant hero. He was also a bit trapped by circumstances in this book but he will do what he has to for a possible life with Celeste and save his people.

Nadia: She is the perfect best friend and I appreciate the addition of her finding her own back story as well. While she is not a warrior, she is finding her own way to fight.

One thing I liked about this book was learning more about each of the countries in this world and sort of completing the picture. It gives so much depth to the story as a whole. This author also knows how to write the villain. I found myself dreading the pages with our main villains because I knew I was going to be upset reading about their machinations against our FMC and MMC. But that’s what a villain is supposed to do to the story!

And that ending - ugh!!! Definitely a cliffhanger but it sets up everything so well for the next book.

Spice? Oh yes! And the fact that most of it is stolen moments makes it that much better.

Once again, because of an ARC I found a new fabulous author! I got this book as an ARC but had not read the first book in the series. So I took the time to go back and read it and I am so glad I did. Now I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out in 2026!

Dorothy Dreyer’s A Sabre in the Hemlock is an absolutely electrifying sequel that grabbed me from the very first page and refused to let go. If you thought the first book was intense, this one takes everything to a whole new level, plunging you straight into a world brimming with danger and suspense. The atmosphere is thick with tension, and every chapter left me desperate to see what would happen next. I was completely swept away and could not put it down for a second.

This book is a masterful whirlwind of drama, heart-pounding action, and jaw-dropping betrayals. The twists and turns—whether in the shadows of the court or on the blood-soaked battlefield—left me breathless at every turn. Dreyer brilliantly entwines the ever-present menace of the Shadow Tsar with Celeste’s own journey as she grapples with her growing magic. Watching Celeste fight to protect those she loves while navigating the treacherous world of royalty is nothing short of exhilarating.

What truly stands out here is the incredible depth of the characters. Their relationships are beautifully complex, shifting and evolving as secrets unravel and loyalties are tested. The emotional bonds and betrayals add a powerful layer to the already high-stakes drama, making every moment feel urgent and real.

Just like the first book, it concludes on a tantalizing cliffhanger that has me eagerly anticipating the next installment!

If you love romantasy packed with daring quests, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and the irresistible tension of an arranged marriage, you absolutely need to add this series to the very top of your TBR. It’s an unmissable adventure!

I received this ARC from NetGalley and Crimson Fox Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

This is absolutely an excellent second installment in the series. This book stands o incredibly well on its own and honestly is even stronger than the first. The tension is ramped up, the stakes are higher, and the romance is sizzling.

We have a crazy amount of character growth in this book. Both of our main characters are stuck in their lives, doing what they need to in order to survive, allowing us to see them grow, adapt, and become versions of themselves I didn’t know we needed but am more than happy to have.

If you like the slow burn tension of book one, I think you’ll be a smidge disappointed by the romance in this one compared to book one. The romance dynamics have changed for obvious reasons that occurred at the end of book one, and it unfortunately took some of the magic of their relationship away for me. It all felt a little too convenient yet inconvenient at the same time. I know this doesn’t make sense, but it definitely will after reading this book.

The plot in this series is so strong. I didn’t have a clue how we were going to continue in this world after the events of book one, and what comes in book two takes this world and transforms it. We have so much world building (in a good way) that takes the plot to a whole other level. I was a big fan of the world building we get in this book because it creates a lot of unexpected situations that kept me engaged with this story.

Warning: cliffhanger!

Thank you very much to R&R Book Tours and Dorothy Dreyer for an arc of this book!

When I was approved for the ARC of this second book, I had not yet read the first book in the series (A Dagger in the Ivy), but I did read that book prior to starting this one. That first book really hooked me into the series, but this second one was so good. I love our FMC Celeste, and our MMC Dante. Dante is sweet, slightly unhinged when it comes to Celeste, and just enough of a bad boy to still be fun. Celeste is head-strong, independent and loyal to her people nearly to a fault. This book follows Dante's journey towards legitimization (he's a bastard son), which allows us to meet a wide array of colorful and interesting characters across a few different kingdoms. I love the diversity of the different royal couples that we see - heterosexual couples, homosexual couples, and a triarchy/throuple situation. Celeste's best friend Nadya's storyline in this novel is also super interesting, and I can't wait to see how her story continues to tie in with the main plotlines in the third book (A Falchion in the Nightshade). This book ends on a cliff hanger, and I really need that third book out ASAP because I'm fully invested in this storyline (please be a happy ending!). If you enjoy the Five Crowns of Okrith or Golden Court Series from A. K. Mulford, this is a similar writing style and subject matter, so you'll love this series!

Oh my gosh that ending has me reeling and I need the next book like asap! You pickup right where the last book left off, with Dante being the only remaining son after Torbin may have died and the king decides to make him his heir and after a period of mourning, betroth him and Celeste. While this is in their favor since they cannot deny their attraction for one another, a whole set of trails they must overcome await them before they can be together as all the kingdoms must legitimize his promotion to heir.

This story is just as exciting as the first, with just as must action and tension and even more court politics as they must appease each different kingdom. I love getting to explore this world even further through the touring of other kingdoms and get immersed even further into this story. There were several new characters introduced that I enjoyed and I’m thinking they may show up to aid in future books. This book also explores the further development of the relationship and trust as well as lust between Dante and Celeste. There was excitement around every page in this book and I couldn’t put it down to wait to find out what happened next! I can’t wait for the next one and overall my rating is 4.7/5!

Thanks to the author and R&R book tours for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!

🔥 If you love dark fantasy with danger, romance, and twists you won’t see coming, you need the Blade Sound Saga in your life!

Book one, A Dagger in the Ivy, had me hooked immediately. Celeste is half-fae, all badass, and absolutely done with being told what to do. When her brother dies and the Shadow Tsar’s creatures invade, she’s forced into an arranged marriage to save her kingdom… and into the path of a certain brooding brother who definitely doesn’t like her. The romance builds slowly, but the tension had me invested from the first chapter, and the twists kept me turning pages late into the night.

Then comes A Sabre in the Hemlock… and things get even more intense. Torbin has turned to the Shadow Tsar, leaving Celeste and Dante to navigate a court full of rules, trials, and dangerous politics. Celeste is risking herself to keep Dante safe, and their stolen moments during the mandatory mourning period had me cheering them on. Their betrothal announcement felt like such a payoff—and just when you think you can breathe, more surprises hit.

For anyone who loves forbidden romance, slow-burn tension, broody heroes, fierce warrior heroines, and monsters that will keep you on edge—this series is everything.

✨ Special thank you to the author and @rrbooktours for allowing me to review this wonderful series that I think every romantasy reader needs on their shelves!

This sequel is everything I hoped for and more — 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲 woven into a story of power and sacrifice. It’s fast-paced, emotional, and packed with twists that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

Some of my favorite parts? ✨
🐉 Hints of sleeping dragons
🩸 Hidden witch bloodlines
🐺 Loyal wolves standing with the fae
🛡️ A steadfast guard (Sir Holden, my beloved)
💫 Celeste and Dante’s incredible chemistry

There 𝑖𝑠 spice but honestly, the plot and tension were so strong it didn’t even need it. I was completely hooked by the writing, the world, and the characters.

And just like book one, this one ends on a 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 that left me immediately needing book three.

If you love 𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞, this series absolutely belongs on your TBR.

Following the events in book one, Celeste is forced to play king Silas's game. Celeste's uncle is finally doing better, but now she needs to attend the tour across the other kingdoms to get the support for Dante to be legitimized as a heir to Hedera's throne. She has a lot to hide from prying eyes - her magic, her love, her real opinions - yet there is much at stake. And the threat coming from the Shadow Tsar shall not be forgotten.
The second book is completely packed, and not only because of its length - there is so much going on! The political games, the hidden agendas, everyone's goals that don't always align, raging emotions, deadly secrets... it has all the drama and suspense it can get, and so much more. And yes, there was definitely more steam in this book. I absolutely love the chemistry between Dante and Celeste, and my obvious emotional investment shows at every obstacle they have to face, at every trial they have to endure against their will. On top of all, the world building is simply brilliant - I love everything about this series!

A Sabre in the Hemlock did not disappoint—if anything, it gave me everything I loved in the first book and somehow even more. This sequel swept me right back into the world of Terre Ferique, but with higher stakes, deeper magic, and a romance that made my heart ache in the best way.

I loved seeing more of the magic system unfold, and the balance between plot and spice was absolute perfection. The forbidden romance was as swoon-worthy as ever, and the spice will have you melting!

The high-stakes trials, the twists, the danger—everything kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This book delivered emotion, action, and heat with flawless pacing. I cannot wait for the next book especially with that ending. I have to know what happens next!

✨High Fantasy
🗡️Arranged Marriage
✨Spicy Fae and Siren Romance
🗡️Forbidden Love
✨Games and Trials
🗡️“Who did this to you?”
✨He’ll burn the world down for her

Thank you to the author and R&R Book Tours for sending me a physical copy of A Sabre in the Hemlock 🥰🫶🏼

We pick up right after the carnoraxis attack on Ivystone Citadel, and Celeste's life is basically a dumpster fire. She’s trapped under the king’s watchful eye, hiding magic that’s growing stronger (and scarier) by the day, and pretending to be the perfect noble while unraveling secrets buried deep in Terre Ferique.

Meanwhile, the royal court embarks on a tour to legitimize Dante’s claim to the throne, which sounds glamorous, except whispers of war and treachery follow them close. The Shadow Tsar is tightening his grip, and his prophecy foretells the rise of a power that will bring his downfall, one tied to the blood of the fae. Spoiler: that power might just be Celeste. If the Tsar discovers who she really is, he won’t just come for her magic, he’ll come for her soul.

I love love LOVED how high the stakes are, literally SKY HIGH. Miss Dreyer does not play safe. Every chapter feels like a countdown to disaster. Also watching Celeste grow in her identity and wrestle with power she barely understands while trying to protect those she loves? Chef’s kiss.

I'm so hooked on this saga!!

A Saber in the Hemlock picks up right where the first book left off and somehow raises the stakes even higher. This story is packed with nonstop adventure, magic, danger, and emotion. Every chapter pulls you deeper into a world of kingdoms, secrets, and powerful magic.

Celeste and Dante’s relationship is written beautifully. The love between them feels real and earned, full of quiet moments, stolen glances, and fierce loyalty. I love the development of Nadya's character as she becomes a bigger part of the story. The world building is absolutely incredible! Each kingdom is so detailed that you can picture everything. Every character, every battle, every court, and every landscape like you’re standing there.

This book never slows down. It’s full of tension, excitement, and some really well-written spice that fits the story perfectly. I didn’t want it to end!! I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next until the next book is ready!

You know when you've got the perfect sandwich, with the perfect trimmings? You're holding it in your hands and it tastes so good, and when you're done, you're so full and satisfied. But it's the kind of sandwich that you want to tell all your friends about because it was THE PERFECT SANDWICH. That's what this book is. It is the perfect sandwich lol. It has everything. It has the bread (beginning and the end), the meat (the action, world building, and flow of the book), and then you have your condiments (the spice, romance, and smoldering, lingering looks and touches between the characters that keep your attention thirsty for more. And then you have that secret ingredient that is so, so good, but also pleasantly surprising when you come across it. Dorothy Dreyer never disappoints when it comes to building her worlds and characters. I am hungry for more, and I'm already licking my lips in anticipation of what she will write in the next book.

The real challenge of any plot twist is pulling readers fully into the shock and awe, but this story laid everything out with confidence, delivering countless jaw dropping moments I never saw coming!

One thing I love about this series is the writing style of the author. There is truly so much happening but you're able to follow along with a good pace so it's in your face, but you're not terribly lost. The number of emotions you'll go through is honestly hard to explain as it's more an experience than an ability to express itself. The world building, magic system and politics will dive deeper here and have you turning those pages, sweating on the edge of your seat. It's been a while since a story of this genre really left me in this much shock!! I'm as anxious as I am impatiently waiting for the next installment. Although I definitely need some time to recover from this "WTF was that" ending.

A gripping, beautifully written fantasy that hooked me from the very beginning.

The world is lush and vivid, full of danger, magic, and atmosphere that makes every scene easy to picture and hard to leave.

I loved how layered the characters are. They’re brave, flawed, and constantly tested. Their choices actually matter, and I was fully invested in seeing how their paths would twist and collide.

The author balances action, emotion, and intrigue so well that there’s never a dull moment, but still plenty of heartfelt, quieter scenes that give the story depth.

The political tension, secrets, and high stakes kept me turning the pages, and the emotional beats landed perfectly. By the end, I felt satisfied but also hungry for more in this world.

If you enjoy fantasy with strong characters, rich world-building, and a sharp edge of danger, A Sabre in the Hemlock is absolutely worth the read.

The ending was action packed and left me on a cliffhanger! I could feel the love between Dante and Celeste and was gritting my teeth just wanting them to get to be together. The trials in each kingdom for Dante were intense and I loved how each had a very different feel.
The Tsar, Seer, and monsters were great antagonists I'm just conflicted at them being parents and seeming so cold to them, no explanation. I was torn/frustrated with how easily it appears Celeste gives in to the kings wishes even though she is a princess/Queen consort in her own right. She would go from playing a badass fighter and commander to a compliant thing which I felt was very conflicting. However, I gave it four stars as I couldn't put it down and I would definitely recommend/read the follow up to this story!

After the attack on the Ivystone Citadel and Torbin’s apparent death, Celeste is drawn into the King’s plan which she must take part in to protect her Kingdom. Dante is part of the King’s plan because the King plans to have him legitimized. They are to take a tour to get the votes of other kingdoms of Terre Ferique. Dante goes through many trials to prove him worthy. Meanwhile, Celeste must remain in mourning and hide her emerging power which is erratic and causes her pain. She is trying to understand it. She and Dante had grown close but now must remain distant because of her mourning. Then Celeste gets abducted and finds out about sinister plans that involve using her. Will she be rescued? What will happen next?

A fascinating story 😍 3.75 Stars!

A well written book with a very captivating story. There is action, intrigue, mystery, romance, magic and more. The FMC Celeste, a royal and commander of the army finds herself needing to accept a marriage proposal from another royal to secure the wellbeing of her people. I really liked Celeste, she is fierce, strong, compassionate and a just great character. I don’t want to give too much away as to not spoil it for anyone. The MMC and secondary characters are pretty amazing as well. Having said that I do have to point out that even though it is really enjoyable it is also somewhat predictable at times. I also felt there were one too many spicy scenes. It ends on a cliffhanger. Enjoy 🥰

A Sabre In The Hemlock is book two in the Blade Bound Series.
The book is Gorgeous! The map is simply stunning. Dorothy Dreyer does a phenomenal job with her writing.

• High Fantasy
• Arranged Marriage
• Spicy Fae and Siren Romance
• Forbidden love
• Games and Trials
• Who did this to you?
• He'll burn the world down for her ( this is my all time favorite )

Celeste was my favorite character. I just loved her. I loved Dante and Celeste. I loved when he said to her “ There is only one person in this world I would ever kneel to.” “And she’s in my arms right now.” It’s a moment where it definitely makes you swoon. Dante definitely had a few lines of making you gush, especially when he tells Celeste that she’s his life. I couldn’t get enough of this book.

📖 ARC Review 📖

A Sabre in the Hemlock is a storm in book form.

Celeste is rising, not just as royalty, but as power wrapped in danger. Her magic simmers, her secrets weigh heavier than any crown. Dante’s claim as heir complicates everything. And Prince Torbin?
I still feel him whispering in every shadow.

This sequel doesn’t just continue the story, it deepens every stake, every betrayal, every heartbeat. The romance pulses, the court intrigues sharpen, and I kept reading through bleary eyes because I had to know.

If you love fantasy that doesn’t shy from cost or consequence, this one’s a crown jewel.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish.

Just like with the first book, I was able to imagine every place and trial that was described while journeying along with the characters to the other realms. I liked how each one of the realms was completely different than the others, with their unique environment, rules, and clothing. I loved the interactions between Celeste and Dante throughout the book as their relationship grew and deepened.

The plot twists and that cliffhanger at the end definitely got me wishing I could read the third book already!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This sequel hits the ground running and doesn't let up. The tension, the action, and the emotional weight are all dialed up, and I was fully locked in. Celeste is pushed to her limits—magic spiraling, secrets unraveling, and her heart on the line.

What really stood out to me in this one was the depth of the character relationships. The pressure they're under is intense, and you feel it in every scene. The stakes are higher, the choices harder, and it makes for a gripping, emotional ride. Loved every moment and can’t wait to see what comes next in the saga.
