They say pregnancy is magical, but in my case, it's utterly bewitching chaos.
I've faced power-hungry witches, ancient monsters, and supernatural armies—but nothing prepared me for carrying magical triplets while a psychotic supernatural named Lyra hunts us down. Every contraction sends ripples through reality, and my babies aren't even born yet.
Now I'm trapped on magical bed rest, watching my family battle corrupted creatures from behind a shield of pillows while my unborn children levitate the furniture. Did I mention Lyra's also planted magical traps throughout our home, corrupted our protective wards, and is planning some ancient ritual that requires my Pleiades power AND my babies?
Aidon and my family are fighting to keep us safe, but our enemies get stronger each day. As they grow, the triplets' magic is becoming harder to contain—one minute they're creating protective barriers, the next they're accidentally reversing gravity in the living room.
Between otherworldly outbursts, phantom visions, and the looming threat of Lyra's final plan, I need to find a way off this damn bed and back into battle. Because if Lyra succeeds in creating a magical link with my children, we have entirely too much to lose.
The magic that makes us special is suddenly our greatest vulnerability—and my babies haven't even taken their first breath.
A Constellation of Power: A Mythic Battle for Magic's Future
In this installment, we're starting out with Phoebe in pain from her contractions with Hades attempting to maintain a portal and battling the intense magic the soon-to-be born triplets are producing. They are still inside the temple, though, making it worse.
Managing to step through the portal, they sense malevolence and hear Lyra, the dark witch has corrupted their wards and is inside their estate. A battle ensues with Aiden, Hades, Selena, Stella, Jean-Marc, Clio, Nina and Persephone try to protect Phoebe and get her upstairs while she contends with more contractions.
As they seem to get ahead of the battle, Lyra pulls out a vial with a strange, sickly green liquid and our underworld gods pause. Turns out the liquid is the difficult to obtain Hydra venom, the only potion that could hinder those from the underworld. Lyra promises to return and disappears in a cloud of black smoke. The team gets Phoebe comfortable and asks Mythia to grab her calming herbs.
After 3 days of bed rest, Phoebe is frustrated not being able to help the team. Lyra had poisoned the wards where the anchor points are bound to physical locations. Aiden and Hades had been working trying to untangle the corrupted wards. Nina enters and shares they found some items that came without return addresses, seemingly innocent pregnancy gifts, are actually embedded with charms that can spy on conversation and magic. The items had been there for months, which explains how Lyra knows so much.
After some days resting, Phoebe wakes to a strange sight on her bedroom ceiling of runes and shapes that seem to scatter with cleansing or attempts to remove them. Clio, Aidon, Jean-Marc, and Phoebe's mom try to figure out what they are. Jean-Marc's research uncovers the symbols to be some kind of tracking cataloging the babies potential. Mythia bursts in and says the ley lines are shifting affecting the flow of magic, as if the magical bedrock is shifting. Jean-Marc and Nina return with alarming news that they may know what Lyra is planning. A Trifecta Ascension that requires all three children and could drain their magic, making Lyra more powerful.
Later, Nina comes in to show Phoebe a map that is tracking Lyra's magical signature. Turns out she can see each of the babies magical signatures in color and demonstrated hovering a hand-over Phoebe's belly. Nissa's darker shadows similar to Aidon, Melaina's a light golden and Thaniel a blue-silver. Clio says this kind of skill usually requires years of training. Upon Stella and Aidon finding a concerning meeting occurring between Lyra and The Forgotten Ones, Persephone mentions the chaos now happening in the underworld with ancient beings chanting "Trifecta".
Sleeping only brought vivid dreams and upon waking from a startling nightmare, Phoebe realizes mirrors in her bedroom were shimmering. Focusing, the image suddenly shows various family in different areas of the house, along with strange shadows that appear to be leaving traces and spying on those in the house. What is going on?
The babies power continues to grow, causing some chaos with levitating objects. Discussing this with family, one suggestion is for Phoebe to work with their magic, not contain it, which helps tremendously. The babies are trying to help, not hinder, including sharing their power with Nina and Jean-Marc. Aidon also attempts to help calm some of the chaos with his power. Jean-Marc uncovers a finding that indicates if even one baby is separated during the Trifecta ritual, the ritual fails. The family changes focus on creating an unbreakable bond between Phoebe and the babies, and corruption resistant wards.
A storm around the estate develops which seems to be getting stronger using the babies magic. It's Lyra's manipulation of the weather and has lightning vibrating at a frequency to induce early labor. Working together, Phoebe provides some of her Pleiades power combined with the babies to Nina, while Nana introduces her new potion to combat the shadow creatures. With the help of the babies, Phoebe is able to neutralize the strange dark seeds planted all over the estate, which stops the storms and the shadow creatures.
Soon after, Phoebe is awakened to an empty bedroom, wondering what's happening. Nina enters and reports Aidon and Stella are investigating an abandoned temple about 40 miles from the estate. Each site is in a pattern around the estate, with the estate in the center. Lyra has been practicing her corruption and darkness. Nana and Phoebe's Mom enter with various ingredients to create new protection that is anchored to their familiar bonds, or emotions.
Later, the battle comes to the estate, with Lyra's corrupted forces crashing through the wards and causing chaos. Phoebe makes her way downstairs to witness a battle like none other with Aidon, Persephone, Nina, Jean-Marc, Stella and the others taking on various threats. Phoebe is appalled and can't sit on the sidelines any longer. Her Pleiades power gathers then released a shockwave like none other, obliterating the opposing forces. While this had the battle in their favor, it left Phoebe critical and drained. The family gathers around Phoebe, with Clio frantically channeling healing energy.
After some rest, Phoebe is back in bed, with Nina entering to report their magical supplies have been corrupted. A noise from the front alerts them to the arrival of Stella, letting them know they found the ritual location, a place about 50 miles away where multiple ley lines naturally intersection. Getting there, though, is the challenge with the path guarded by dangerous magical traps, corrupted spirits, temporal distortions and more. As they discussed a plan, suddenly the sky darkens and a mass moves towards the estate with what appears to be malevolent beings deep within.
The battle ensues with everyone taking a stance. When Stella is put in danger, Phoebe's magic explodes outward, combined with the babies protecting Stella. Suddenly, golden energy is released enabling the protection sigils in the estate, left by Hattie. Golden light engulfed Lyra's forces and removed them. Phoebe and Nana realize they may have been betrayed, with Lyra attacking only the weaker areas.
Tseki returns from scouting this ritual area, only he's alone. All the fighters that joined him were consumed by guardians, Greek beings protecting the site that is also a pocket dimension. The team decides a multipronged approach is best, strengthening their defenses and removing Lyra's network of safe houses. Stella and Aidon, with Nina's help, find and work to destroy these safe houses. Phoebe and team realize the babies power can be redirected to their defense and start working on a counter ritual.
Phoebe receives a strange message on her phone of protection symbols and a message referring to the Pleiades magic and stopping the ritual. The babies don't react other than warmth, leading Phoebe to believe this is a message from someone who escaped Lyra.
Working on the protections and potions, suddenly there is a pulse that ripples through the estate, with the protection symbols glowing red. Stella announces The Forgotton Ones are moving. Phoebe realizes this is the beginning of an attack. The intense battle ensues with Lyra stepping in from a wall that exploded inward, only she looks like she's being consumed by magic. Lyra finds a way to use the babies magic against the family. Every family member is at risk with the reflection magic cast by Lyra. Phoebe is swept away by a strange portal that Lyra claims cannot be tracked by anyone, including the gods. She awakens in a strange, vast stone chamber.
Lyra has Phoebe imprisoned with a strange bowl or potion she calls a conduit, and Phoebe starts having intense contractions. The babies magic is strong, and they help create a barrier, however, they leave an opening attempting to make Lyra think she is having success. Lyra continues attempting to forcibly pull Phoebe's Pleiades magic from her, with the babies fighting back. Finally, Aidon and the family break through. The babies had redirected their efforts to the family, allowing them to break through Lyra's defenses. Disrupting Lyra, the babies are able to destroy the ritual altar and Phoebe's magic rushes back. With the walls deteriorating, they need to find an exit.
Phoebe is focused on not giving birth inside this chamber, fighting pain and exhaustion. Clio attempts to get to Phoebe, running into a barrier they can't seem to break or cross. Suddenly Lyra reappears, looking worse than before. Lyra puts Phoebe in danger, cutting off her access to family and tries to induce labor, threatening her theft of the magics.
As the family attempts to break through, Lyra keeps pushing dark energy into Phoebe, trying to establish a pathway for the babies magic to flow to Lyra. The family battles all the dark forces with Aidon, Hades and Persephone working together. The barrier finally starts to crack. Just as the battle reaches a crescendo, Hades transports them all back to the estate, however, the link between the babies and Lyra is still active and severing that link could impact the babies negatively.
Can they finally remove Lyra and her corruption? Will Phoebe be able to hold on, allowing the babies to develop properly, and finally give birth safely? The next installment should be an amazing continuation of this exciting story!
Phoebe, the Pleiades, is heavily pregnant with triplets but has to contend with the magical attacks from the evil dark witch Lyra, who wants her power as well as that of her unborn babies. Healer Clio has ordered her onto bedrest, with no magic or stress allowed, which is pretty difficult when a psychotic witch is after you and your family. Luckily, she has her grown children Jean-Marc and Nina, as well as her mother Mollie and her Nana, her husband Aidon, even his parents, Hades and Persephone, her best friend Stella, as well as those in their protective fighting circle such as Tseki, Murtagh, Layla and Tarja. They have teams of witches and shifters helping to protect their home, but somehow Lyra is able to get through time after time, using creatures of horrifying darkness to assist her. It seems Lyra has managed to poison their wards, meaning every time they try to strengthen them, corruption continues to spread and their wards begin to fail. They only just managed to escape one battle with Lyra, but she was able to follow them home, as even the gods amongst them were left low on power and exhausted. Somehow, she managed to plant innocuous items in Phoebe’s home, allowing her to hear everything they had planned and work her own plans out, knowing everything they were doing to try and stop her. Lyra is planning an ancient ritual performed with babies from a powerful magical bloodline, and needs her triplets to get what she wants. Everything Pheobe and her friends and family have tried seems to fail and even the triplets magic is going haywire every time she gets stressed or they react to what is happening around them. Each of her triplets seems to have a different power, which emits a different colour to Nina, Thaniel’s is blue and silver, Nyssa is purple black, whilst Melaina’s is golden.
Lyra has managed to get some very powerful and ancient beings on her side, promising creatures from the Underworld that she would release them once she obtained the power of the Pleiades and the triplets. She has built an army and it is increasing in size every day. Phoebe has been on bedrest for only a few days and is already struggling not to be driven crazy. They find out they are facing the first beings who emerged from the chaos at the start of creation, beings far more powerful than even the gods and coming before them as well. Lyra is planning on remaking the world order, with her in charge and being the most powerful being around. They have searched really ancient grimoires and even those from the Underworld, with Jean-Marc in particular, able to find information about the Trifecta Ascension ritual Lyra has planned. They need to find out where she is going to try and do it, so they can put a stop to it, but it seems Lyra has been planning this for a very long time and has various sites all laced with dark powers and used for experimenting. Every piece of magic Phoebe and her group try to use against Lyra seems to backfire spectacularly, making it so much harder to keep Phoebe and the triplets safe. More attacks occur and losses start to mount, as it gets closer to Lyra’s ritual plans and it seems that Lyra may well succeed. Their magic may have made them all special in a normal world, but the beings Lyra has in her pocket, are far more powerful than anything they have ever faced and their magic suddenly becomes a liability, as Lyra has created spells that manage to nullify their magic.
This is the most perilous situation Phobe and her family have ever had to face and it still isn’t over! They may have stopped the ritual, or so they thought, but Lyra has her claws in into Phoebe and a connection to her unborn triplets! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Reading this book, my heart was in my throat for a lot of it. It had me freaking out, chewing my nails, having my AC on high because of that, and I cursed up a storm from worrying about the characters that I fell in love with a long time ago. Phoebe pregnancy is in danger from Lyra, the evil witch that has been her ‘big bad’ for quite some time now. Clio is living there with Phoebe and her family and her son, Jean-Marc is staying there and not returning to college because of a ‘family emergency.’ (The stuff that happens in this book, in my opinion, gives new meaning to that phrase. HOLY COW!). Phoebe, Stella, Aidon, (his parents- Hades & Persephone), and the rest of the family, Nana, Nina, Molly, Selene, Tseki, Murtagh, Layla and their crews of shifters and other allies are all working together to protect Phoebe, as the Pleiades of Maine is on total bedrest with the extremely powerful triplets, that are already so powerful while still in the womb. Lyra does some crazy stuff in this book and I was terrified for Phoebe and the babies. It is a war zone this time around. So much worse than before. IT isn’t even over yet. I laughed, cried, freaked, and went through so many emotions that I can’t even freaking name them. The fight scenes were awesome and EPIC! OMG. I can’t even. We finally find out what Lyra has been up to with everything she has done previously, it was all to prep for this…
Although the book freaked me out, I still loved it, because I HAVE to KNOW what happens next! I also feel bad for the characters as they are put through the wringer in this one. Lyra is really messing with the wrong family. I truly hope that Hades gets his hands on her, and honestly, I’d love to read the epic punishment he comes up with for her and her wife. lol.

“Bedrest Blues & Otherworldly Clues” is book 17 of Mystical Midlife in Maine. Is another winner! As the title indicates Phoebe is on bedrest with the triplet demi-gods, and that leaves Aidon and crew in protective mode. But Lyra's still a major threat, she corrupted their home and is trying to make a connection with the triplets so she can take their magic. Just as they get one threat contained another one shows up! Will Lyra succeed in forcing a link on Phoebe and the triplets? Read it and find out Brenda Trim writes amazing and imaginative paranormal stories that are full of action, fun and sarcasm. How she comes up with so many different stories I will never know. She never fails to write entertaining adventures. I highly recommend this and all of her books.

Bedrest Blues & Otherworldly Clues by Brenda Trim had me laughing, gasping, and clutching my own pillows all at once. Honestly, who knew pregnancy could be this chaotic, magical, and borderline apocalyptic? I’ve followed this series for a while, but watching the main character juggle triplets in utero, battling supernatural armies, and dodging a psychotic enemy like Lyra… well, it was pure, bewitching chaos. Between furniture levitating, wards failing, and contractions that ripple reality itself, I was hooked. And yes—Aidon and the family stepping up to fight while our heroine is trapped on bed rest? Heartwarming, hilarious, and intense all at once. The stakes are higher than ever, the humor still sharp, and the magic absolutely wild. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Unstoppable, hilarious, and utterly addictive. If you love magical mayhem with heart and snark, this series just keeps getting better.
The battle still that's between Lyra and the seven sisters as well as Hades and Persephone. Lyra wants the triplets Phoebe is carrying. But it seems Lyra is several steps ahead. As the sisters and family prepare to ward off the evil Lyra they discover she has infiltrated their home and set inanimate spies. Then they realize someone had to be feeding Lura info. Will they manage to fight off the evil Lyrs keeps sending? Will Phoebe and the triplets be safe? A fascinating story with plenty of action.

With multiple layers of worry tied to Phoebe's pregnancy - the triplets, their magical powers, and Lyra doing her best to wreck the best laid birthing plan - it's all hands on deck for Phoebe's magical defenses.
Lyra may have more moves than a wet cat in a public bath-house but Phoebe is far from alone. She will draw on her network of family and friends to match Lyra move for move. It's a game of chess with lives on the line and it looks like Lyra didn't get the memo - nobody puts Phoebe in the corner...
Phoebe and company are still trying to stave off Lyra and keep the triplets in the womb for a while longer. Lyra has infested and infected the house and it is all-hands-on-deck to try to keep their defenses up and the corrupted witch out. Fortunately, the triplets are doing their best to help. Unfortunately, when the babies get stirred up contractions seem to follow and Clio is at her wits end trying to keep Phoebe on bedrest. The battle is coming and nowhere is safe. this was a strong seventeenth entry in the Mystical Midlife in Maine series, it had that element that I was looking for and was invested in what was happening. It continued the story perfectly and the characters continued to feel like they belonged in this universe. Brenda Trim has a strong writing style and was glad I got to read this and back into this world.

OMG this latest addition has me hooked and on the edge of my seat as the author really ups the stakes and draws us in with even more action and danger and drama then ever before! Pheobie is on magical bed rest all the while Lyra is still hunting her down, the babies still haven’t been born and the action is non stop. I am so excited for the next book!
Bed rest at 30 weeks pregnant fighting a psychotic witch and her evil followers. Lyra trying to get Phoebe's and the triplets magical powers to become a god. Bad idea.

Phoebe has too much going on for her. Hopefully the triplets will be born soon and without the influence of Lyra who wants to rule everyone by taking the triplets power and destroy anyone who opposes her.
Could’ve been half the length. Too much “ yay; babies are great, family is great, babies help family, family succeed. Yay babies are great, family succeeds, babies help family yay.” And it was just far too repetitive.
Wow talk about a fast-paced book! So much action I had a hard time putting it down.
The author is one of my favourite authors. If I need to a book to read, she is one that I go to. Well thought out books with great characters and story lines.
If you haven't read a book by Brenda Trim you are missing out on a phenomenal paranormal author. She has several series that I read.
