Men of the Capital #2

A Matter of Taste

Rate this book
A wedding or a war?

If Annelise Hollingford is good at anything, it’s getting her own way. But when she said she wanted to plan a wedding, she meant her own, not her eccentric bosses. But after breaking off her engagement with her cheating childhood sweetheart she is given that exact ironic responsibility. She’s sick of men. But then she meets Desmond—and boy can that man cook!

A recipe for love?

Tall, sharp and sexy, Desmond is “the” fashionable caterer and Annelise’s boss won’t hear of hiring anyone else. Meaning she has to work with Des. And he has to work with her attitude. Annelise isn't impressed by his masculine physique or his fancy line of work. But she is impressed by how easily he handles her mouthy character.

Breaking through the walls Annelise has raised around her heart might be a piece of cake for Desmond. He knows how to work his smile and his secret weapon—chocolate sin. But Annelise is no one’s easy-bake cookie.

So now the only real question is—who will end up on top?

NOTE: 18+ Curse words, bold characters and hilarious dialogue.

The characters were generally all unlikable and the storyline boring. An executive assigns his executive assistant to plan his engagement party.......and offers her $50k to make his fiance happy-seriously?? Bad even for a short story.

An Awesome Read!

I loved reading A Matter of Taste (Men of the Capital Book 2), all about Annelise Hollingford an Executive Assistant to Jasper Cates & Desmond Blair owner of Aux Delices a very upscale caterer. Annelise has been tasked with planning the very large exclusive engagement party for her boss Jasper & his fiancé Hannah since both are extremely busy with their jobs. The only, problem is that Hannah is unable to make up her mind and keeps changing the important details, making Annelise crazy. In fact she's having, lunch with a fellow employee when she receives four texts one right after the other each one more important then the other regarding the party. One about the cake & one about the party location regarding a chandelier & one about the caterers being arrested. The cake was easily solved, the baker wanted to use almond flavoring in the vanilla fondant, and that makes Hannah have a scratchy throat, which just won't work when she uses her voice to make a living. She just wants real vanilla fondant with vanilla beans with vanilla extract and nothing, else will do, so Annilise makes sure the baker is aware of this request and that if he Vera's off the course he will be sued and never work again, he assures everything will be perfect. Next she calls the venue to make sure a chandelier can be put in the middle of the tent, and yes brass plated will be fine, and yes they have a koi pond and pictures can certainly be taken with the engaged couple around,it. Last but not least the caterer was arrested because their ovens were doing double time with marijuanna, so now she was tasked with finding another caterer with a very short window. Luckily she found Aux Delices with chief & owner Desmond Blair coming highly recommended according to everything she has read online and in the article that caught her eye at the coffee shop. So she calls and inquires about the date, and yes they can accommodate the engagement party because they just had a cancellation. So she decides to go over to their offices to check the place out, when she buzzes she's informed with out an appointment she must come back another day. This annoys her, so she tries to insist she needs to see the owner, and leans on the door buzzer for eight diffent rings. An exasperated Desmond Blair answers the door, and Annelise can't get over what a dish he is! She explains that she would like to book the engagement party with him, and she would like to set-up a tasting party. The author wrote a very interesting story, and the characters made the story come to life. Read about the exploits of Annelise & Desmond and watch how they both fall in love, all while planning the engagement party for her very pushy boss & his unpredictable fiancé. I hope you enjoy reading this fast paced story as much as I did.

Entertaining romantic read.

I loved the last book 'The Billionaire's Hotline' it was one of those books where 5 stars was just not enough, I don't remember ever laughing that much at a book before and I couldn't wait for the next one.
Annelise Hollingford is an interesting character, I loved her in the last book, she had the best lines, I was really surprised to discover that's she's only twenty-three I'd have put her at considerably older than that. Annelise is organising the engagement party for Jasper and Hannah, Jasper has always been awkward but Hannah surprised me she was a bit of a pain, not exactly what I expected from her. In organising the party Annelise meets Desmond and the attraction is instant he's 6'4" of everything a woman wants and on top of that he cooks but attraction aside Annelise is done with men and relationships so Desmond has his work cut out for him.
This book is nowhere near as funny as the last one but my favourite part is a conversation between Annelise and Shannon:
"Fifty? I'll hump the guy for ten!"
"Shannon, you're pregnant. You're married."
"For ten thousand dollars, my husband would hold my coat while I jumped the caterer," Shannon said sagely.
Now this is a good entertaining read, it's well written with fabulous characters, why only 3 stars, I wanted more 'Hotline' was something different, it stood out whereas for me this is just a normal romantic read, a well written one b

Book two kept me captivated. It was a nice change for the characters to have actual character and integrity. Anneliese is a woman who has been scorned and Des is the man to show her the way a real man treats a lady. Beautifully written. Dee is a Book boyfriend I could read again and again.
