Jamey has once again crafted a lovely love story; this book is full of love and friendship, and, as always, it has a happy ending.

Taryn and Hedy's story is truly captivating from beginning to end. It is beautifully written and, in parts, educational with its astrology aspects, and I enjoyed it. It was wonderful to learn while reading this love story.

Absolutely recommend this book. I'm looking forward to more from Jamey in the future.

Please be advised that the initial dynamic between the characters is that of a boss and employee, which might suggest a forbidden romance; however, this aspect quickly evolves, so the book may not be accurately categorised as such.

Ultra sweet and very low angst. Get ready to get romanced underneath a blanket of magnificent stars! This is book two in the Wishing Stars series but it can be read as a standalone.

I received an advance copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Taryn Elliot is a genius mathematician and she has recently fallen in love with astronomy. Deciding to get her PhD in her new field she comes to the McDonald Observatory to complete her research. When she meets the esteemed Dr. Hedy Marshall she is more than a little starstruck. No math model in the world could have predicted the sparks flying between them.

Dr. Hedy Marshall is content in her life. As the head of the observatory she gets to share her knowledge of the stars with astrologers and the public every day. She has great friends and interesting research to complete. Her heart is not open to anything else. After a painful divorce, Hedy has resigned herself to hiding her heart behind cement walls. It does not have the strength to get hurt again. Hedy’s heart itself has other ideas though. Ideas that it makes very clear once Hedy locks eyes with the brilliant Taryn Elliot.

As with most of Jamey Moody’s books: it’s not so much about the chase, but all about making it work. It’s always Happily Ever After not just Happy For Now. I think it’s very interesting to see a couple actually having to work at making it work past the initial butterflies.

Taryn struggles with her self esteem. Not when it come to math, she knows she’s an excellent mathematician, but basically in every other aspect of her life Taryn doubts she is good enough. Her upbringing in an extremely demanding household is mostly to blame for that. Hedy sees right through Taryn and she immediately shows her caring nature by helping Taryn grow more confident.

This book is filled with swoon worthy moments!! That first date? Daaaamn, talk about sweeping someone of their feet! After that Moody turns up the heat quite a few notches, oh la la! Taryn and Hedy sure fire up those sheets!

This being the second in the series, we get a glimpse into Celeste’s life with Esse, the couple from book one. It’s great to have a little check in with them and a few other familiar characters.

The leading ladies in this second novel, Hedy and Taryn, have excellent communication skills and it is nice to read a book where ‘just not talking to each other’ is not the biggest tension point. Because this story has so little angst, it might feel a little repetitive at times. It did not take away from my enjoyment of it. We all need a little uncomplicated swoonyness sometimes, right?

I was very excited to read a story about Hedy. Taryn has arrived to work at the observatory for the semester and she has an enormous crush on Hedy. From the moment they meet their hearts know that they are meant for each other. Hedy works to get past the age gap and that she is Taryn's boss. It's a very romantic story from there first date all the way through. Jamey writes with so much heart and soul. I love learning about the stars and I am looking forward to the next story. I hope Lou gets to find someone with the help of the stars too.

Jamey Moody’s More Than a Wish is an engaging, low-angst contemporary romance that weaves authentic emotion and genuine character growth into its narrative. At its heart, this novel understands the complexities of human connection and offers a deeply resonant journey for readers who crave both romantic tension and character-driven drama.

The relationship between Dr. Hedy Marshall and Taryn Elliot forms the emotional core of the story. Hedy, a reserved astronomer mentoring at an isolated West Texas observatory, has convinced herself that her heart is off-limits, a stance rooted in real, relatable fears of vulnerability and the lingering pain of heartbreak. Taryn, a bright and passionate grad student, enters Hedy’s orbit not just with “stars in her eyes,” so to speak, but with a refreshing openness that slowly dismantles Hedy’s emotional walls.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its depiction of mutual vulnerability. Both women bring flaws: Hedy’s guardedness and Taryn’s self-doubt. The narrative doesn’t romanticize these imperfections but instead draws empathy and relatability from them. Moody is patient, unfolding their romance slowly. From that first spark to their sometimes awkward acts of trust-building, readers see Hedy and Taryn take hesitant yet hopeful steps toward intimacy. She crafts moments that reveal each woman’s internal struggles, making them both complex and deeply relatable. This realism, with its focus on the difficulties of opening up and risking rejection, resonates with readers, especially those that crave nuanced portrayals of human relationships.

For those that enjoy mentor-student and age gap dynamics, they will be particularly happy here. These elements infuse the story with delicious tension and ethical complexity. Moody navigates these with care though, adding depth rather than reducing everything to clichés. Instead, the blurred boundaries between Hedy and Taryn’s professional and personal lives heighten the emotional stakes and keep their chemistry simmering. The forbidden nature of their connection, paired with genuine mutual respect, makes each breakthrough and setback feel both plausible and significant. These subtle shifts add to the story’s emotional weight, emphasizing the ethical dilemmas and societal expectations each woman faces. In the end, it makes the story stronger.

Moody’s use of setting is particularly effective. The remoteness of the McDonald Observatory, surrounded by the vast Texas sky, becomes more than just a backdrop. The stars and isolation amplify the intensity of Hedy and Taryn’s relationship, creating a private space where their feelings can expand and evolve. The quiet observatory makes room for honest moments and tough questions. It is also a place where the characters find themselves both lost and found, searching for clarity amid the complexities of their emotions. In this way, the observatory acts as a sanctuary, fostering an intimate space where boundaries can be tested and new possibilities can emerge.

This narrative is rooted in some of romance readers’ favorite tropes: the intimacy of small-town life, the comfort of found family, and the magic of unexpected love. Moody elevates these familiar elements by weaving in realistic dialogue, authentic emotional stakes, and real-world challenges, giving the story a fresh and deeply relatable feel. Rather than leaning on idealized moments alone, she lets the characters’ vulnerabilities, doubts, and everyday struggles shape their connection. The result is a romance that feels warm, balanced, and profoundly honest.

Final remarks…

Ultimately, this novel shines for its emotional depth, realistic character arcs, and captivating setting. The romance between Hedy and Taryn is not just about passion but about personal growth, forgiveness, and the courage to pursue happiness even when it feels risky or impossible. Moody’s portrayal of their relationship is a thoughtful exploration of how two people can influence and transform each other against the odds. In the end, More Than a Wish is not simply about age gaps or forbidden relationships; it is a testament to the idea that love, in all its forms, demands bravery and introspection—and sometimes, that’s more than enough.

Strengths…

Organic, character-driven relationship development
A vivid, symbolic setting that enhances the romance
Fresh, nuanced use of favorite romance tropes
Emotionally authentic
A tender, hopeful tone that balances low-angst with real stakes

Taryn is just starting on her time to complete her studies at McDonald Observatory, hoping to occasionally use the big telescopes for her personal research, and to learn from other astronomers using the telescopes. She is also employed by the Observatory to lead tours for the public and to work in the gift shop. She is elated to work under Drs Hedy Marshall and Celeste Starr, two of her astronomer heroes. She is older than most of the other students, having had a career in mathematics previously, with published mathematical researches to her name.
Hedy is the superintendent at the Observatory, overseeing all that happens there, deciding who gets telescope time and which projects get priority. She and Celeste are working on some groundbreaking research for which they will need a mathematical collaborator, which Taryn is perfect for.
Both Taryn and Hedy are focused solely on their careers, not having time for a social life or relationships.
In this story we learn much more about the McDonald Observatory in the Davis mountains, a real place in Texas, which I mentioned in my review of the previous book. We learn about their research and the way an observatory functions.
This story is a follow on from Wish Upon a Rainbow Star, which has Celeste and Esse finding love through the stars, and that theme is continued here with Jamey Moody’s classic sweet warmth of writing. Her stories’ love interests always seem to move very fast with little angst, and there is no doubt about the love between her characters. She has less ‘will-they, won’t-they’ than other authors; the love interests seem almost predestined. Both Hedy and Taryn are questioning the spark between them, but for different reasons, and each woman completes the other, calms and centers them. They are so at ease with one another, so in tune.
This is a beautiful example of gentle, thoughtful but also steamy writing at its best.

The 2nd book in the Wishing Stars series is here and all the feels are high with this one.
The setting is just as beautiful as it was in the previous book of this series and the characters are sweet and lovable.
If you love age-gap stories, this is the one for you. Unlike many others, this one doesn't come with the usual power imbalance. Quite the contrary even. I liked that deviation from the common trope. It is refreshing to explore beloved tropes from a different angle.

Also, I must point out that the whole book is so very romantic! The dates, the activities and settings, the conversation, and the backstories - It all comes together to create an extremely romantic story between 2 accomplished women who fall quickly and deeply for each other and are not trying to fight it.

In terms of conflict and resolution, the conflict here is almost non-existent. The MCs have several obstacles to go through but the book glosses over them very lightly. The last obstacle is resolved by only 1 MC who prepares it as a surprise for the other MC. While it is a great gesture of love and is a very sweet one at that, it also brings forward the lightness of the resolution. The MCs don't need to work together and overcome the (rather big) obstacle in their way. One of them has a solution she doesn't share and the other turns to a last resort kind of solution that will harm her in the long term.
I understand the need for light and fluffy romance. I do. It is one of the reasons I love reading this kind of books, and Jamey Moody's books are certainly part of my go-to comfort reads. However, in this case, I felt the "surprise solution" was a little too much and the sweetness did not cover for it.

Having said that, I still think this is a good story and it is warm-hearted and soft in so many ways that could easily melt your heart. When you need an escape or a very romantic getaway, this is the book for it.
Enjoy :)

Yay! Another wonderful wlw book by Jamey Moody. I was so excited to read the second installment of the wishing star series and was not disappointed in the least. Taryn & Hedy’s story was sucked me right in. I was instantly smitten & remained engaged & captivated throughout the book.

I’m a sucker for forbidden romance within the wlw genre. Hedy being Taryn’s boss (technically) added a taboo/forbidden element that made their love story all the more satisfying for me. Neither Hedy nor Taryn were looking for love and then boom! I love that! Both women are highly successful scientists and career focused wearing “love blinders” of sorts. However, the chemistry between them is undeniable and oh so fun to read.

This was truly a wonderful story of two incredible women who were just perfect together! Their connection is so beautifully articulated. Oh and I mustn’t forget to mention the steamy parts were very hot and add so much depth to their love story. You will not be disappointed! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of found love when you’re not looking for it. 5 stars! Must read!

Thank you Jamey Moody! Now, as usual, I will be anxiously awaiting your next book.

More Than a Wish is book 2 in the Wishing Star Series and it is a beautifully written love story. Dr. Hedy Marshall oversees the McDonald Observatory and the grad students who come to study astronomy there. Grad student Taryn Elliot, a brilliant mathematician is there for the summer to use the giant telescope and further her research. She develops a crush on Hedy, but Hedy has walls around her heart and isn’t looking for a relationship. Slowly, Taryn starts breaking down Hedy’s walls and a mutual attraction starts to pull them together. But Hedy is Taryn’s boss, which means they have to wait until the semester is over before they can act on their growing feelings for each other. The love they share is as big as the universe they study.

I love how Jamey brings back Celeste and the whole cast from Wish Upon a Rainbow Star! And Jamey’s descriptions of the different constellations are spectacular! Makes me want to travel to the Davis Mountains and the McDonald Observatory!

If you’ve never read any of Jamey’s books, this is a great place to start! I highly recommend this series!

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review and I honestly love this story!

I loved this book! More Than a Wish is a sweet, stargazer's dream of a romance—low on angst, high on heart, and full of those quiet, swoony moments that linger like stardust.

Hedy may think her heart is safely tucked away after her divorce, but the moment Taryn enters her orbit, all bets are off. Their chemistry is undeniable from the start, and watching Hedy melt from cool, professional mentor into a total teddy bear in Taryn’s presence is pure joy. Taryn’s curiosity, passion, and big heart are the perfect match for Hedy’s gentle strength, and their connection feels natural, warm, and deeply earned.

The observatory setting adds a magical layer to their story, where cosmic discoveries and emotional revelations intertwine. Sometimes love really is written in the stars… you just need a telescope (and maybe a meddling helpful friend or two) to spot it.

Bonus points for the delightful cameos from Celeste, Esse, and Lou, who bring humor and heart to the story. This book is a love letter to second chances, new beginnings, and the constellations we form when we find the right person. Absolutely lovely!

What a beautiful romance story.

Jamey continues to enlighten us about the stars in book two. We last met Dr. Hety Marshall, the director of the observatory, in Ft. Davis, TX. Each semester new graduate students arrive to learn from the best and get special telescope time to further their studies.

Brilliant mathematician, Taryn Elliot, cannot hide her crush on Hedy from anyone, but Hedy no longer believes in love. She just believes in the stars. Leave it to Jamey Moody, with her special "love language," to bring these two together.

It's truly a delightful story with great characters, very likeable people I would want to be friends with, both main and secondary. I may have learned a little about astronomy, but I learned a lot about friendship, respect and a love full of joy. And, as a personal note, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet her in person this winter and she is as lovely, genuine and friendly as her writing suggests she would be. No one writes love dialogue better than Jamey!!!

This is another enjoyable book from the Wishing Star series. Hedy, the observatory superintendent who has given up on love, and Taryn, a grad student with low self esteem, have an immediate connection when they meet. Once Taryn is no longer employed by the observatory, we get to watch the budding personal relationship grow and witness how they positively affect each other during that process with a little angst as there always is with life. It's well written and the story development kept me fully engaged and rooting for their success. Even though this could be read as a standalone, the majority of the characters in this book appear in the first one, too. If you want additional backstory and see how Hedy and Taryn first met, you should read Wish Upon a Rainbow Star first.

More Than a Wish is a really cute and heartwarming read!

I especially loved the main characters, Hedy and Taryn—their chemistry was so strong and believable, it was easy to root for them from the very beginning. The writing was solid overall, and I appreciated the steady pacing and well-rounded character development throughout the story. As well as the side characters and their greater meaning within the story 🤍

One of my favorite parts was the astronomy aspect—reading about constellations and star-related facts added such a unique and lovely layer to the story. And the epilogue? Absolutely sweet and satisfying. It left me smiling so much.

While I really enjoyed the book, it didn’t quite hit the “amazing” mark for me, which is why I’m settling at 3 stars. But it’s definitely a charming and enjoyable romance with a lot of heart ♡

Jamey Moody has written a delightful story with strong characters, beautiful settings (where can you improve your view if looking at the stars in the night sky?), and quick conversations! The story picks up from the first book and brings Hedy Marshall and Taryn Elliot into a whirlwind of a romance adventure! These two women, are drawn together like a moth to a flame. Their story is sweet and poignant with a bit of angst and stress on them. The scientific parts of this story are well blended and the heat of their attraction fuses everything together. There is wit, laughter and heat in a perfect balance. I really loved this book, and the previous one as well. Thanks Jamey for the fun reads!

Jamey Moody has just written her 2nd book "More than a Wish" from her new "The Wishing Star" Series. I have found a series on Astronomy, the Stars and with an Observatory included for good measure to be interestingly different from so many other possible settings that I've read.

The two main characters fascinated me, although my favourite is the older woman, Hedy. While she was very hesitant about becoming involved with another woman, after being hurt in the past, Taryn, the younger character was quite smitten from the beginning. The supporting characters were all "good" people too.
I hope Jamey has another book planned in this series, as there is more we can learn from Hedy and Taryn. Thanks Jamey, for another good read. I really enjoyed it.

Jamey Moody can spin a romantic novel that leaves you feeling good and wishing you had the same luck in the romance department!

In this novel, we’re once again joined by Hedy, Celeste, Esse and joined by another astronomer, Taryn at the observatory.

Hedy is Hedy and remains aloof because of her past relationship failure. The story progresses and both good and bad things surface, and Hedy is working closely with Celeste and Taryn on a project and their friends see what could be there and gently lead Hedy in the right direction.

As usual, Jamey Moody always has a HEA to her books so follow along and see if Hedy makes the right decision this time and opens her heart.

I received an ARC from the author.

An Age Gap Story & Aligning Stars = Love 💕

Jamey Moody has again topped herself with “The Wishing Star” Series. Her flawless style of bringing strong women together to find the ultimate happiness continues with Hedy and Taryn. We are back at the McDonald Observatory in Texas. Our supporting cast from Book 1 are back and they have been watching Hedy and Taryn around each other. Hedy has a whole list of the Why Nots and Taryn just has the hots. This coupling was forming but slowly. Jamey’s storytelling takes you back to the stars and the effect they have on her characters but also her readers. Again we have some eclectic music that sets up a unique narrative that brings us to a HEA that we have come to expect.

I just finished More Than a Wish and I loved everything about it.  Hedy and Taryn are great together, really complimented each other and made each other better together.  Glad to see Celeste and Esse included in this story and see they are still in love as much as ever.  Enjoyed reading a book that the MC is a Math major and loves math like I do.  There are some similar threads between the 2 books like the MCs have their own stars, their own songs (great choices with Lunch and Criminal), and some angst with how this will all play out long term.  Great resolution for both.

I think Lou and Vivian each deserve a love story as well.  Hope you have these in the works, hint hint.

Another lovely story in the Wishing Stars Series. No need to have read the first book, but helpful for background characters. Hedy is in charge of the McDonald Observatory; a closed off women having been hurt emotionally in the past. Taryn is a grad student visiting the observatory for her studies. Taryn is passionate about the stars, but she is even more passionate about Hedy. Hedy is wary that she is too old for Taryn, but can Taryn convince Hedy that their romance was written in stars! Another great read from Ms Moody. You know what you are going to get with her books, good writing, interesting characters and no aghast. Would recommend.

While you do not HAVE to read the first book, characters and plots continue from that book.

Taryn has recently come to the observatory, and is crushing hard on head astronomer Hedy but knows nothing can happen. There's a age gap, and Hedy is her boss.

Hedy has been alone since her divorce five years ago, and has no intention of falling in love again. But Taryn is more than a simple student, she's a brilliant mathematician, researcher and holds her own with her.

Once Taryn is no longer one of Hedy's staff, they start to date...

Good read! Good romance, good characters AND no third act breakup. I hate those.

Another great story from Jamey Moody that makes me want to learn astronomy! This was also a story about overcoming personal doubts and fears. Taryn had her self-doubts and that led her to believe that she wasn't good enough. Eventually she learned that she was not only good enough but her professors and mentors knew she was smarter than she thought. It led her to find love AND a fellowship in Chile. Her journey to find this love is what makes this story so great. Are you looking for a book that has you cheering for the characters? This is the book. Thank you Jamey for sharing your gift of writing!

Sometimes, a second book in a series can be a bit of a disappointment-or not as good as the first. This was neither of those things! It was a delightfully romantic story in its own right, while Celeste and Esse from book one were an integral part of book two about two minor characters from the first story. At the end of Book one, I had a strong suspicion about who would be the focus of Two, but I have no idea who the third book will involve, but I can't wait to find out! That's another thing about this series - sometimes, I need a break from a series, but the change in focus in these books makes me want to start the. third book right away! Can't wait!

stars just minding their own business, not realising sappy astronomers are projecting relationships onto them

Hedy runs an observatory, Taryn is a graduate student working at the observatory, and while there's the potential for this to be a dramatic scenario this is not the author for that. so Hedy and Taryn proceed patiently, sensibly, and ethically, and only once it's appropriate launch into an incredibly earnest romance

just, so earnest. and sappy. and cheesy. it's a very particular vibe, but it's also the vibe I needed right now

Hedy didn’t think she would ever fill the whole left in her heart by her ex, but 5 years later she met a woman who helped her see that might be possible after all. Taryn is a brilliant mathematician and still finding her stride in astronomy and Hedy helps her build her confidence and realize she is great at what she does. I enjoyed the dynamic between the two and getting more from the characters in the previous book.

I thought this book was well done. jamey picked up just enough of Book 1 to give characters context without telling the whole story. And I learned a lot about stars! The characters were sweet, the angst was manageable and there was certainly a grain of truth in Taryn's reunion and revision with her parents.

I kow it's fiction but why can't the general world just accept that love comes in manynforms and intensities?

This is the second book in The Wishing Star series. And it is a wonderful love story. Taryn fell for Hedy when she first saw her. But Hedy is older and her boss. But when dealing with the stars, anything is possible. Jamey writes the most beautiful love stories. This book is full of longing and romance. And as always, a happily ever after. I hope we get more in this series.

Wow, what a second book!
Having previously been introduced to these characters I couldn’t wait to read this book. From the very beginning you are drawn in and cheering for them both.
As with all Moody’s books, you fall in love with the characters and the journey they go on.
Can we please have Lou’s story next?

Another sweet book by Jamey Moody. But as much as I liked this story I loved the 1st book in this series better. I hope the 3rd book will be about Vivian and let's say Lou? Still Worth the read.
