Security breaches? Check. Dimensional chaos? Naturally. Forbidden attraction? Oh, absolutely!Jericha Brown is used to being the boss. As the fierce, no-nonsense head of her own security firm, she's just landed the contract of a lifetime—until her lead agent walks out, taking half the team with him. What a jerk!
With her reputation and business on the line, Jericha does the reaches out to a former frenemy for help. But to Jericha’s surprise, little miss Steal a Dream sold her business—and her contacts—to an infuriatingly smug (and dangerously hot) newcomer named Raymond Statton. Desperate, Jericha hires him as a temporary sub-contractor, only to uncover a secret that flips her world upside Raymond is a Shadow Walker, a rare and powerful being who can slip between dimensions.
It’s shocking, sure… but Jericha’s got her own magical skeletons in the closet, and when their secrets (and maybe a few clothing items) start flying, things get messy fast. Like, flaming-sword-in-the-office and surprise-demons-on-the-rooftop kind of messy.
Witty, wild, and a little bit wicked—this is what happens when enemies-to-lovers meets magical workplace comedy and nobody reads the HR manual.
Born and raised in Chicago, IL, writing has always been a passion for Jessica Cage. She dabbles in artistic creations of all sorts but at the end of the day, it's the pen that her hand itches to hold. Jessica had never considered following her dream to be a writer because she was told far too often "There is no money in writing." So she chose the path most often traveled. During pregnancy she asked herself an important question. How would she be able to inspire her unborn son to follow his dreams and reach for the stars, if she never had the guts to do it herself? Jessica decided to take a risk and unleash the plethora of characters and their crazy adventurous worlds that had previously existed only in her mind, into the realm of readers. She did this with hopes to inspire not only her son but herself. Inviting the world to tag along on her journey to become the writer she has always wanted to be. She hopes to continue writing and bringing her signature Caged Fantasies to readers everywhere.
3.5 ⭐️ I Accidentally Hired a Shadow Walker was a solid third installment in this series 🌑🌱
I really enjoyed seeing past characters woven back into the story, it makes the world feel connected 🌟 Our FMC Jericha is the ultimate boss babe 👑🔥 holding her own as a powerhouse in a male dominated field. Then comes Raymond, our Shadow Walker who knows exactly what he wants 🌑💀 He’s completely down bad for her, and their dynamic gives us a reluctant, one-sided enemies to lovers vibe that kept me hooked 🌿✨
The magic system was fun 🌱🔮 the workplace chaos added plenty of humor 😂 and the ending definitely left me wanting more 👻🌑 Can’t wait to see where book 4 takes this cast. Overall, a witty, solid comedic romantasy series worth adding to your rotation 🌙🌱
Thank you Jessica for the ARC 🌟 All thoughts and opinions are my own 💜
I really enjoyed this book. I love that this can be read as a standalone or as a part of the series, but I definitely recommend reading as part of the series. You will not be disappointed. I love how the stories are interconnected so that you can see how your favorite couple is progressing and see how their lives have changed since the end of their story.
I give this 4.5 stars! I signed up to receive the ARC after reading about the book. I was excited to get a copy because I love fantasy romance books. I have not read the first two books, but I'm definitely going to read them now. Even though I started with the third, it was easy to follow along. I absolutely love the characters. The side characters added to the story and didn't feel like fillers. Jericha and Raymond…I love them together. I loved how Jericha was able to let go and let Raymond take the lead and help her. I did not see the cliffhanger coming! I need the next book!!!.

Jericha and Raymond are my new favorite couple in the series. There wee so many callbacks and tie-ins that now I have to go read the first two again. Raymond's emotional intelligence is almost as sexy as his "talent"
Obsession with Jessica Cage's writing solidified!.

Honestly, Jessica Cage is one my top favorite Supernatural Romance authors. Not too heavy on the spice that the plot gets lost. Strong lead characters that do not need a man but, having one around does not hurt (Most of the time). I Accidentally Hired A Shadow Walker is no exception. The tension, the action and of course the magical adorable creature that you wish you had. Just wish I had a green thumb to keep this one alive. I cannot wait for my next read by her.

Loved reading the third installment of this series, but not strictly necessary to have read the previous books. Excellent character development and intriguing plot points. Great ending with a promise of exciting things to come!

I was so lucky to get a ARC copy of this book! It was absolutely everything! I love how all the characters are connected through each book in this series, yet no character is the same. Jessica always does her big one and this book is no different. The plot isn’t predictable and the magic/powers aren’t overdone, and the spicy scenes are chef’s kiss! Never thought I’d want a shadow daddy!
Not my favorite so far but I still enjoyed it! Love seeing the other characters pop up in the story. Shadow walker, so you know the spice was good! But the cliffhanger?!?!
Loved the dynamic between the lead characters, the he fell first and she fell too but too stubborn to admit it. Usually this type of dynamic is usually frustrating but Cage had me saying "Yeah, keep making him work for it!" Everything about Jericha was so refreshing, plus size woman who is physically strong and defends herself ( physically and magically), confident and an entrepreneur. Then you start to see the more vulnerable side she tries to hide and how her past still effects her and how Raymond tries to take his time understanding her. Love the new characters and also seeing characters from previous books (Metice, I see you 😍), also the connections to the previous books I was like wait a minute! All around great book and can't wait for all future releases. Also Kaa is my new fave pet/plant
Thank you for the chance of reading your ARC

Not them beefing over donuts lol. Jericha and Raymond will have you laughing, swooning, and fanning yourself
Yall I was already giggling because of the trigger warning but then the opening one liner had me like 😧 Jessica and these openers lol
This is book 3 in the Accidents Happen series and just like the others, this book did not disappoint. We get banter, girl boss moves 💅🏾💪🏾, romance, and yes shadow play
Also, my favorite character is back in this one and she is so unapologetically herself
But that ending?! Very cliffy. What is about to go down
Jessica Cage does it again with a hilarious, action-packed supernatural romance that blends magic, workplace chaos, and a whole lot of slow-burn tension. I Accidentally Hired a Shadow Walker introduces us to Jericha Brown, a tough-as-nails boss who doesn’t have time for nonsense—until her team implodes, and she’s forced to team up with the last person she wants… a smug, sexy subcontractor who just so happens to walk through dimensions. Casual.
Jericha and Raymond’s banter is spicy, the chemistry is sizzling, and the plot? Think flaming swords, rooftop demons, and magical HR disasters. It’s enemies-to-lovers meets supernatural workplace rom-com, and it’s as fun and fiery as it sounds.
My only critique? I wanted more. The pacing feels a little quick in spots where I would’ve loved to linger—but the wild, witty ride makes up for it.
⚠️ Trigger Warnings: This book contains mentions of past trauma, violence, and emotional manipulation. While it’s handled with care and woven into character development, readers should be aware going in.
If you love bold heroines, magical men with secrets, and chaotic supernatural adventures that don’t take themselves too seriously—this book is absolutely worth diving into.
This was my first Jessica Cage book, and I can say it will not be my last and I will be going back and reading the other two books in this series!! I really enjoyed Jericha and Raymond together, and I loved the idea of plant/earth magic and a shadow walker. It was so unique and I loved how they met, bantered, and all. ALSO THE SPICEEEEEEE????? 1000000000/10. I needed more of thattttt. I thought Jerichas growth as a character was so good too.
The only few gripes I have about this book is the plot was a little...confusing to me. While I loved the flow in the first 70%, the last like 30% felt a bit Disney Channel movie-ish. Not a bad thing but kinda not what I was expecting either. Yall know the fake audience gasps and ooo's? There were random lulls where a character would say something and it was almost like we were on a set. Especially during the fighting scenes and during Natalies "Megan Thee Stallion" twerk party at the end. Ehhhhhhhh ?? Idk It just felt very...unserious? Random? Not fitting? I'm not sure if this needed different POVs or what but i just was kinda like :/. Also felt like the whole plot of going to the Bane just didnt fit and turned also really random compared to the beginning and middle of the book. Also the part about Jericha and her powers?? The fighting??? We never got Raymonds full story? There was just a lot missing.
The oneeee other thing that kinda got me was the use of exclamation points constantly. It seemed like the most random things were exclaimed! (example lol) Jericha would just be saying something at a lull and she would be like "I walked to the store! Wow so much stuff in this store. Kaa is back at home! I need to feed her when i get back." Like it would cause very random high pitched inner reading voices for me and it kinda was frying me.
Overall while i had a few gripes, I feel like the romance was enough and so well written that it saved this for me. I wish me got more of Jericha and Raymond just dilly dallying, and in the real world, because it was just sooooo good.
Thank you to the author Jessica cage for the e-ARC!
The opening sentence of Chapter 1 immediately showed the fun and trouble that was coming, letting me know right away that I was in for a good time! This was a fun urban fantasy book, held together by the great characters and how they interact.
For me, the relationship between the leads was so much fun. The Raymond and Jericha banter was cute, funny, fun, and light. The character confidence of Jericha was definitely giving diva attitude throughout the story, taking over every scene and making me laugh a lot. I have to mention Kaa is a mini diva as well.
As a fan of the series, this book felt like a true welcome home reunion. I was so happy to see Jackie and other characters from the previous two books of the series reappear or being mentioned! Their continued presence felt natural and made their worlds feel connected, reminding me why I love this series in the first place.
This book is fast paced and fantasy seasoned with excellent humor and strong ties to previous books, I absolutely enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next book!
Raymond the Shadow Walker had patience with Jerrica the untapped witch. Jerrica was a control freak that personally drove me as a reader crazy. There were times when I was like c'mon already, just admit that you dont trust anyone. The battles of losing control over certain situations that she would internally have with herself just because she didn't trust anyone really got on my nerves at times. This is where Raymond comes in. Raymond was able to breakdown those walls and call her out on my crap. The battle sequences, I found riveting. I was happy to get back to the Demon world. It was great to see the connections of the previous ppl in the latest book. The mysterious but powerful witch with the water continues to keep her secrets by still dangling karats of knowledge. That last line makes me want to get the new book now.
I’ve been a Jessica Cage fan since about 2020-21 when Tik Tok and Book Tok really took off. I was so excited to read fantasy that features black characters.
Of all her series, Accidents Happen is by far, my favorite. And just like the other books in this series, I really enjoyed it. I love the magic system, especially in this one because it starts with Jericha already knowing who and what she is and how her power manifest. It meant we could get right to the fun and mayhem earlier. The banter between her and Raymond is funny and it illustrates both of their characters well.
Jericha is a boss babe that has given up on finding a man that can match her level of bad-assery. Enter Raymond. He’s smoking hot, has long dreads and can kick ass with the best of them.
This was a fun enemies-to-lovers that becomes a wild and crazy ride with great dialogue and banter. I enjoyed it a lot. I’m excited to see what JC has for us next!
This is the third installment of the accident series , and I thought no one would trump my love for Metice from Book 1 but Raymond may do it for me!! And Jericha - BOSS BISH!!- is not just strong, but she’s crazy intelligent, fierce, loyal and despite some scars jumps into things for those she loves in a way that’s inspiring.
Jessica Cage does banter and spice so so well!! Every time Raymond and Jericha were in a scene together I was kicking my feet. The kinks, the aftercare, the emotional evolution- their relationship has a push pull that made sense.
I also loved how the side characters flows in all three books to connect them but wasn’t so heavy that if you haven’t read the other two books you’d feel lost. As long as my boo Kufio is good - ima stick beside her!.

Jericha was a powerhouse — a woman with a thriving company, a tight grip on control, and secrets even she didn’t fully understand 🌿✨. She already knew she wasn’t fully human, but she wasn’t ready for what hiring Raymond (Sir) would unravel. He came into her life for business, not knowing she carried alien blood and nature-bound magic — until his enemies landed on her doorstep and everything changed. Patient, powerful, and quietly dominant, Raymond helped her unlock parts of herself she’d long buried. Jessica Cage blended fantasy, danger, and desire so perfectly I couldn’t stop reading 👏🏾🔥
I was so excited when I heard this was coming. So much so I watched for weekly updates. Now that it's here and I've read it I'm a bit disappointed. The connection between the MCs just wasn't there for me. It felt like their relationship was forced. I was more interested in Jackie and Cufio than Jericha and Raymond.
In addition to the lack of connection, there was the lack of humor. One thing I really enjoyed about the first two books in the series was the snarky conversations. Unfortunately, it just wasn't there in this book.
Lastly, the story dragged and was a bit boring. After a while I just wanted to get to the end.
The overall story was a 2.5 for me. Will I continue to read Jessica Cage's books? Absolutely! She's still a phenomenal author. Do I recommend this book? Yes! I'm a firm believer people should read a book for themselves. Just because it wasn't a hit for me doesn't mean it won't be a hit for others. That's the good thing about reading, we all experience books differently, which makes for good discussions.

This was an okay read. The pacing wasn’t great and it felt like everything was a bit rushed while simultaneously drawing out details that weren’t necessarily super important. Also, while I liked learned about our MCs, I felt that it would’ve done more justice to the overall plot to build up the links between this series more because it could’ve made a more interesting narrative, especially for this book because the MCs weren’t all that interesting to me 🫣
All these accidents hunni, I need to accidentally bump into a shifter or summon one #lol. This book 📖 was another 10 out of 10 I hope 🤞🏾 there is another, I enjoyed all her books so far.
A beautiful dynamic relationship and story. Reading this book gave me all of the feels. Sadness, happiness, and even a little annoyance lol! The FMC, Jericha, was such a complex soul with a very independent demeanor. The way she was introduced and written into the story was beautiful and really shows the depth of how a black woman can feel in the business owner industry. The MMC, Raymond, was such a wonderful representation of a male that yearned for a woman but in a very direct and un-creepy way. It was such a breath of fresh air to read this book and I would recommend this to anyone. Perfect mix of fantasy and real life relationships between two grown adults! Jessica Cage amazes me everytime she releases a new story and her detailing with her words is beautiful and really paints a picture in your mind of the characters and landscape that is extremely memorable.

I liked the book a lot but I didn’t finish it because I kind of expected more and it got boring. Kaa was my FAVORITE character in this book and I loved everything about the relationship between Raymond and Jericha and how he’d only let her be dominant AT HOME lol.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book took a long time for me to finish. It really started to drag. I think that the problem, for me, is the single POV. It became boring simply having the FMC’s POV.
I love the relationship between Jericha and Raymond how he was able to get her to let her guard down and let him in, in more ways than one. Beautiful magical world building and I like how we got to see glimpse of previous characters. Over all a wonderful read.

LOVED THIS BOOK! Once again Jessica did her thing! The FMC Jericha shows how dominant she is, a true woman in power. Though throughout the story we can see her strong mindset falters with the MMC Raymond. Sometimes she can't hold it together and he's there to pick up the pieces. She has to learn to trust men, especially Raymond because his assistance is needed for her business. Their relationship is tested when she's caught in a web of mess that followed him from the demon realm. But of course, they prevail.
I loved the silliness of this book and how even though it's a romantasy comedy there's still underlying messages. Thank you to Jessica for allowing me to receive the ARC copy!

I was so excited to tap into this one. Unfortunately I felt like it was a bit slow and didn’t measure up to the other two in the series. It did contain the humor and wittiness that the author always provides. It just didn’t do enough for me.
Thank you booksprout for the arc

First I want to say thank you to the author for an ARC of this lovely book.
Raymond and Jericha may be my favorite couple I've read this year. Their banter kept me laughing. There was never a dull moment while reading and there was a perfect mix of character development and plot pacing for my liking. I look forward to the next installment in the series.
Jessica Cage has done it again and put out another banger! This is the third installment of the Accidents Happen series and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed the banter between Jericha and Raymond. Jessica did a great job of tying all the books together and intertwining the characters and plot from the other two books. This whole series is great!.
