Sixteen-year-old Mayten Singer enjoys training young tree singers in the Forest Clan. When the king calls upon her for a new quest, however, her life is thrown into chaos.
Again.
Charged with selecting worthy candidates for the island’s future ruler, Mayten embarks on a journey that tests her wisdom, resolve, and connection to the natural world, uncovering a creeping darkness that threatens the Sun Clan, spreading shadows where once there was light. With the aid of a young Wind Catcher, Mayten must summon courage and strength to find a cure for the darkness before those closest to her die.
Tumbled People: Deconstructing and Reconstructing your faith is selling well. If you're going through a time of faith discouragement, for instance leaving the evangelical world because of their alignment with power and privilege, instead of the poor and marginalized. You might find solace and hope in this book.
"Wind Catcher" provides another quest for Mayten and company, as the sequel to "Tree Singer." I enjoyed Mayten's character arc and how she became a more confident leader. The scenes where she interviewed prospects and hosted the competition were my favorites and very entertaining. One thing I did not like was how Mayten had three love interests but never quite clicked with any of them - additionally, one of them was 25 while Mayten was only 15, and it was uncomfortable reading about an adult flirting with a kid. Still, Mayten's friendships and the connections she forms with the people she meets stood out and I appreciated how fleshed out the world building was. This book is definitely for fans of cozy fantasy and low-stakes adventure!
Wind Catcher proves itself to be an excellent sequel to the first book in the series, Tree Singer. While Tree Singer holds a special place in my heart, Wind Catcher does an excellent job expanding the characters and the world introduced in the first book. In this book, Mayten journeys from her home in the Forest Clan to the Ocean Clan and Sun Clan on a quest from the king. Both Clans are well fleshed out with unique locations, delicious dishes, and fascinating characters. I also appreciated how some members of Mayten’s family are given more of a focus in this book such as Wollemi and the twins. Wind Catcher is well written, enjoyable, and a must read in the Tree Signer series!
I love reviewing my books! This book takes Mayten on another quest, to find potential candidates for the future queen or king of Triggensfeld. To do so, she must visit two clans she has never been to, and along the way, she keeps hearing about something threatening the water of the Sun Clan. Soon, that must become her main focus. In this book, we meet Flurry, a young Wind Catcher who helps Mayten figure out what is attacking the water. You'll also meet handsome Rill and dreamy Lan, who vie for Mayten's attention alongside Prince Kai. Who's team you'll be on by the end is anyone's guess. Join me on this journey and prepare for the exciting conclusion coming your way in book three of The Tree Singer Series!
Wind Catcher continues the story of a young hero Mayten from the first book in the series, Tree Singer. It was a must read for me after reading Tree Singer. Both books captured me in the first chapter and I found it hard to put it down. I’m usually not a binge reader and take my time finishing a book, but I found myself staying up late to finish chapters. While I believe the target reader is a young adult, I found it delightful and am looking forward to the next one in the series. If you would love to escape into a magical world where nature takes center stage in the most unique and creative way and the heroine is someone you can truly root for, give this one a try.
I so loved the characters in the first of this series, "Tree Singer"! Now young Mayten, who proved to be brave and loyal, lives into her calling and discovers true leadership gifts and an honesty and kindness that will lead to change some fascinating lives along the way to a undiscovered danger which she alone has the wisdom and bravery to confront. As she proves to be wise and insightful, you will grow to love and respect her more and more on this journey. You will be enchanted as was I by this unassuming young woman and the world in which she lives.
The second book in the series is just as fascinating as the first. The characters are lovable and you can probably pick out a friend or relative who acts the same. That really pulls you into the story. Of course I love most fantasy books and do not really care of they are adults or middle school age or anything in between, I like the world-building and the adventure. This story continues where Tree Singer left off and leaves a hoping the third story will come soon!
The second book in a series, this book tells the story of Mayten, a tree singer who has been tasked by the king to help find a new candidate to take over the kingdom when he steps down. But she is met by Flurry a young girl from Ocean Clan, who talks to the wind and has learned that something is very wrong in the Sun Clan. The problem is that Flurry is very young for her gift of wind catching, and she is brushed off by the adults. So she goes to Mayten with issue.
But Mayten is on a mission for the king. Does she set the mission aside to help Flurry? What do the trees think?
This is a great YA book, and I think even some of the middle grader would really enjoy it.
