Mom told me I’d love this book, and oh, was she ever right! It’s a bit of a rom-com, but it’s also so much more. The premise of the book is rooted in good old-fashioned hard work and the love of living the “simpler” life, while still acknowledging the help technology has brought to our world. I didn’t expect to connect with Flora quite as much as I did—that was very special, and I loved watching her stretch and grow as time went on.

Another favorite part of this story was that this book is firmly rooted in New Zealand and NZ culture. I loved all the descriptions of normal life, as well as descriptions of places I’ve been (and can concur with the author on overall impressions!).

This book also has a wide variety of characters—I loved how people from quite a few different backgrounds featured in this story! I feel like I learned a few things from them, and I still have a note about one thing I’d like to research further.

If you’re looking for a light, whimsical, wholesome story, I’d highly recommend you check out this book. I absolutely loved it, and am eagerly anticipating reading A Wilde Wind—even though I know the tone of that story is quite a bit different from this one, I’m sure it will be just as good.

My most favourite book I’ve ever read to date!!!! It is difficult to find a romance novel where the characters don’t fall in love at first sight. Penelope has constructed an engaging and realistic love story set in the 21st century, yet you almost feel as though you are back in the pioneer era. This is one of the few books I’ve read where I have so completely related to the main character, making it all the more enjoyable. (Throughout some of the dialogue I could hear my mother’s voice ringing through Flora’s mum’s remarks. 😅) I would highly recommend if you want a wholesome realistic romance based around faith.
