I have read and enjoyed many books by Lesley Kara. They always have great plots with plenty of twists and shocks for the reader to stay engaged throughout the book. Troublemaker was another fantastic read, I really felt for Storm and what was happening to her. It was a clever conclusion as always.
Ever since her little brother Arlo was murdered in the local park Storm has been struggling. They still haven’t caught the killer and now strange things are happening around her and the police are sceptical as there appears to be no evidence. She meets her neighbour Lena, who is an ex police officer and together they try to figure out what in earth is happening to her.
This one really got me, I could not work out how these things were happening, was Storm going crazy or was someone really out to get her. It was a page turner for sure.

She has noticed things being moved round in her home. One evening she saw a woman being attacked and forced into a car. When she reports it to the police they can find no record of the car. She witnesses a stabbing but the police can find no evidence of the crime.
It’s easy to see why the police come to see her as a troublemaker, reporting crimes that don’t appear to have happened. But there’s no suggestion that she is lying. Through a strange set of circumstances she finds herself getting to know her upstairs neighbour Lena, an ex police officer, and they decide to start investigating the strange occurrences.
What follows is a tensely plotted character-driven thriller that hinges on hidden secrets. Some of the twists definitely took me by surprise, and I was quite amazed by the ending.

I thought this book was so cleverly and well written. The author deals with a whole bunch of things in this one that I felt was handled exceptionally well.
The twists were great, and although I didn't see the big reveal coming, I did have my suspicions. This only heightened the tension though and I really enjoyed the ending.

Perfect as a quick read as you'll be hooked and want to carry on to find out what comes next. All the characters were great, especially Lena. Really enjoyed her. Storm was strong, strong-willed, independent, brave and so determined.

This was my first Lesley Kara book but I'd heard such good things about it - and they weren't wrong. I was hooked from the very beginning.
I loved the book cover, even though I have a phobia of butterflies, the green background just popped and I would definitely gravitate towards it on the shelf.
I loved Storm's brother Arlo. Okay, he might not have been in it for very long but he just came across as the sweetest young man, even if I did know what his role in the story would be. I felt for Storm. She's had her brother ripped away from her and along with him, she has lost her spark, she's lost her inner storm, and I was willing her on.
It's a relatively small cast of characters, some with bigger or smaller roles than others but all well created and all well used. They have their own characteristics and their own stories, but they all work around Storm's story too.
For the most part, this is a two-man (well, woman) story - Storm and her neighbour Lena. I've made my views of Storm clear above, but Lena...there was something about her. I really wanted to trust her, to believe she really wanted to help Storm, but there was something in the back of my mind that kept flagging up. I won't say if my suspicions were correct as I don't want to spoil anything but it'll be interesting to see what other people think.
The plot is a good one but for me, it was incidental; this is a character driven story and the character creation is wonderful.
I zoomed through this, it was so addictive. I put it down to eat dinner and go to bed, and that was about it.
What I will say is that if you're easily freaked out (which I am), don't read it on a dark winter's evening (which I did), when you're in the house on your own (which I was). This should be read in daytime hours with bright light, outside, surrounded by people, so you don't feel like you're living in this story because it sticks with you and is not conducive to a restful sleep. So I did have to put it down at bedtime and read a children's book just to get my mind away from that eerie feeling.
It's a very quiet thriller, but no less thrilling than a full-on 100mph thriller. It's very unsettling and makes you feel so uneasy. You're always looking over your shoulder, searching the shadows. I was trying to work out the red herrings, what was I seeing, what should I believe, who should I trust? It's very well achieved.
You think you've got it figured out and then something or someone comes along and you're back to square one, and it would be frustrating if it wasn't so good. I had decided who I thought was behind it all but I was completely wrong and was surprised when the reveal came.
There were elements that felt familiar from previous thrillers (they are my most read genre) but there was enough different in this to make it feel new and fresh.
Yes, it is a thriller, a whodunnit. But it's also a fabulous look into grief and how grief can affect you, even years later, can make you feel crazy, imagine things, get fixated and obsessive, and how alone it can make you feel.
You can bet I will be looking out for Lesley's other books now.

Although a slower paced read than some of the author’s previous books, I was still kept wanting to know more throughout, despite not really connecting with the main character Storm initially. Once Lena, a former police detective, appears on the scene the two women really do work well together to solve the crime, bringing lots of loose ends together to provide a satisfyingly good conclusion.
The latter half of this book really picks up the pace with the action kicking in, providing the twists and turns that this author always excels at, especially with the tension of the final few chapters culminating in a dramatic final showdown.
Another great read from this fantastic thriller writer, more of a slow burn than some of her previous books but still a very cleverly executed plot to be enjoyed.

Clever, compelling and intricately plotted — I read it in two sittings. It’s a slow burn at the start as the MC Storm’s character and background are sketched with subtle brushstrokes — just enough to set the scene and whet the reader’s curiosity. Then the pace starts to increase and continues to do so relentlessly until the edge-of-your-seat climax, with a few great twists along the way as you’d expect from this author. I also like the thread of two women pooling their efforts and different skills to find out the truth. I won’t say anything more specific about the plot to avoid spoilers — read it for yourself! You won’t be disappointed.

This was a brilliant and very cleverly written book. It was not only a mystery/thriller, but also a heart wrenching and emotional story that really delved into human behaviour. It took a long hard look at our assumptions about people, explored grief and the psychological impact of death and shattering secrets.
Storm was a happy, strong , contented woman until her brother, Arlo was stabbed to death. No one was ever convicted. We meet Storm almost two years later, on the anniversary of Arlo's murder. She is a changed woman. Nervous, quiet and lives in constant fear, spotting dangers where possibly there isn't any. She also has a reputation of reporting many incidents to the police that turn out to be nothing significant, and she is labelled troublemaker.
One Sunday she is witness to a stabbing near to where her brother was murdered. She reports it to the police but there's no evidence, other witnesses and so once again she isn't believed. Storm confides in her neighbour, Lena, who is an ex-detective. Slowly but surely they start to work together, teasing out Storm's stories and at last, Storm has someone who not only takes her seriously but is willing to help.
Storm and Lena are really great characters. They develop such a beautiful friendship that really shines through in the book. Together they piece together information, uncovering shocking lies and secrets. The story was really gripping and felt immersive as we follow their journey to discovery and the explosive truth.
The writing style is excellent, tight, immersive, and exciting. The pacing keeps you hooked, the storyline is deeply engaging, and the characters are so likeable that you cannot help but become invested in their journey. This is a character-driven story that is both gripping and emotionally satisfying.

Storm knows what she saw but how can she solve this when no one believes her?
I have read all of this author’s books, the majority of which I enjoyed, but my favourite has always been The Rumour. This latest one for me ended up a close running for The Rumour and read like a classic, solid psychological thriller. The plot itself is very compelling and engaging, it led me to second guessing myself and the character’s actions. Although it started as a slow burn, I found that the pacing increased as the story went on and I was hooked to the mystery by the end, having to read just one more chapter.

Some books have that power to hold you spellbound by their gripping narrative and breatktaking storytelling, Troublemaker is one such book, once started I found it hard to put down, the desire to know the truth is overwhelming, slick and taut the tension and suspense built up on every page palpable.

This is a read where the characters just shine, these are just normal everyday people written with that down to earth feel. The story is mainly told from Storm and her neighbour Lena’s viewpoint, I liked the way this worked in building up the drama, allowing the story to unfold, their relationship within the context of the plot vital to bring some semblance of truth and understanding to Storm. The author has a real knack for getting inside the characters and brining them to life on the page, at times she got in my head as well. Storm comes across as a strong willed independant woman, though there is a vulnerable side, considering what she goes through though, you see a determination to get to the truth.

It tackles difficult themes though not in a gloryfying way, the paranoia and fear felt real, undercutting all that there is plenty of of heartfelt human emotion, it also goes to show how friendships should never be undervalued.

A fluid fast moving read which at times doesn’t let you draw breath.

After the traumatic death of her younger brother, Storm tries to pick up the pieces of her life and whilst she tries to carry on, she can’t shake off the suspicion that someone is targeting her. After a series of false alarms, and unable to convince the police, Storm is labelled a troublemaker and isn’t taken seriously. However, when events start to spiral out of control Storm realises that she has to conduct her own investigation whilst at the same time placing herself in great danger.
This is a cleverly written psychological suspense story which has all the necessary twists and turns to keep you guessing and whilst it took me a while to warm to Storm’s character I couldn’t help but want everything to work out well for her. The pace of the story is good, with lots going on, a few cleverly placed red herrings and some scary situations that had me gripped, especially toward the end of the story when the tension really starts to rack up.
Troublemaker looks at the issues around unresolved grief and the effects of PTSD and does so in an entirely appropriate manner whilst the same timely keeping the edginess of the story paramount.

I received a copy of #troublemaker from Lesley Kara and I have to say I was not disappointed. She gets better, more dark and twisted with every book. I read this in one go as I had to know what was happening with Storm. I had so many questions about the people around her. Who was genuine? Who wasn’t? Was Storm herself imagining this? I trusted nobody. I was glad when I realised that one character was definitely on her side. This is a story in which you will not want to trust anyone. Lesley Kara is a master of misdirection, but she never spoils it with a random person who doesn’t make sense. The sense of dread from the beginning was there and it built into a state of breath holding tension. I’ll say it once more. With every single book Lesley Kara only gets better. If you haven’t read her books, get yourself her backlist and order this one. A real not to be missed psychological thriller. Five stars from me. This is quite a difficult book to review for me because after finishing it, I had no strong feelings about it.
The story is written in the 3rd person and is all about an unreliable main character. Those are two things that usually I don't enjoy. However I have to say that the way this book was written impressed me, as this didn't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I think it worked really well.
I was thoroughly invested right from the start by the mystery and I did fly through the book, as I was really intrigued about what was going on.
It is packed full of mystery and I thought it was such an easy book to read, you really could finish it in one sitting.
I liked our main characters Storm and Lena and I think there is definitely a possibility for a second book following them.

It’s been ages since I have read a Lesley Kara book, but she has done it again with Troublemaker—a tense, emotionally charged thriller that kept me turning the pages late into the night.
From the very start, I was drawn to Storm, a character whose name perfectly reflects the whirlwind of emotions and danger she’s caught up in. I loved how Kara portrayed her as both fragile and fierce: still broken by her brother’s murder yet determined to find justice when no one else believes her.
What struck me most was how the book explored trauma and its long-lasting effects. Storm’s hyper-awareness and panic attacks felt raw and real, and it added so much depth to her character. Her struggle to be taken seriously by the police and those around her was frustrating but also incredibly engaging—it made me root for her even harder.
The mystery itself is cleverly crafted. The eerie parallels between her brother’s death and the murder she witnesses hooked me right away, and Kara kept me second-guessing at every turn. But they dont believe her, after she has rung them many times for other incidents they dont believe happened. She makes friends with the lady downstairs, who decides to help her prove her truth.
This story was quite emotional, and the author did well with exploring the effects of trauma and how long lasting those effects can be on a person. I felt the author dealt with the emotional side with tact and sensitively. I really liked Storm, she was vulnerable but also a fighter, and it really made me root for her, and every time she was wronged by the police, I felt myself get angry on her behalf. This was a very twisty story, very fast paced, and very well written.

Where to begin? If you enjoy an emotional rollercoaster, tension, and the constant urge to say “just one more chapter,” then this is the book for you.
The story follows Storm, a woman who was once confident and unstoppable until her brother was murdered. Now she lives a life plagued by hyper-vigilance, constantly finding herself in situations that lead to calls to the police, only for them to discover nothing unusual or something entirely innocent. But is Storm simply being overly cautious, or is there something more sinister at play?
The writing style is excellent, tight, immersive, and never over-explained. The pacing keeps you hooked, the storyline is deeply engaging, and the characters are so likeable that you cannot help but become invested in their journey. This is a character-driven story that is both gripping and emotionally satisfying.

This is my first book by Lesley and I thought it was very easy to read.
With the read along being read over such a long period of time I did struggle to keep my focus on the book. I feel if we had read more in a day it would have stuck with me a little bit more.
This is by no means saying it’s a bad book because it’s not I found it enjoyable to read it was just slow burn with a bit of repetition early on but it does keep you intrigued to see if what Storm had witnessed was true or not.
The characters were well developed throughout the story with the main character having a very appropriate name as she is a true whirlwind of emotions right from the start to finish. With depth being add to her character from the real and raw struggle she has been through in recent years.
There was one or two bits through the story that didn’t sit right with me and I don’t think would actually happen in real life but over I thought was an enjoyable read and would be inclined to try more or Lesley’s work.

This book is explosive! From the prologue I was hooked and this just got better the more I read. A total page turner and from about the half way point I could not put it down. The ending was unexpected and a huge twist which was brilliantly plotted and left me holding my breath as I rushed to read how it would conclude. I also adored the epilogue and felt it gave a brilliant ending to the two main characters, both of which are very well written and relatable throughout. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read this as an ARC and cannot wait for more readers to find this incredible book in January!

A classic example of why I love Lesley Kara's book so much!!! Within the first chapter I was hooked and before I knew it I was at the point of no return, couldn't stop until I'd finished it! Really keeps you guessing throughout and the pacing was brilliant. Last time we did a Lesley Kara book at my book club it was a great success and I can't wait to tell them about Troublemaker!

Another brilliant book by Lesley Kara. It was so good I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting late into the night. Twisting and turning all the way through, leaving me not knowing what to think and then the truth revealing itself. Unbearable level of suspense that kept me hooked all the way through. Totally invested in Storm and willing her on to find the answers. Just when you think Lesley kara cannot top her other novels she does it again. Loved it !!
