I debated giving this two stars but I realized this was way worse than all the 2 star reads I’ve read this year so 1 star it is
overall this was a cringey, overdramatic book that had me scratching my head at the amount of stupidity.
high school
for a bit of background, the beginning of this book takes place at Kingsacre high school. Sebastian (H) is part of a group called ‘The Elite’ which has been around for around 100 years. the guys who are part of this group are usually the best of the best and come from the biggest families in the area. in this case it’s Sebastian, Clay, Hunter, and Evan.
on the first day of freshman year, Starling (h) caught the attention of Sebastian (a junior at the time) who decides ‘she’s mine’. he begins stalking her for a full year and has his posse (clay, hunter, and Evan) follow her around town.
which, why tf do i need to read about 17 year old boys that think they're kings? it's so extra how they call themselves the head of the school when they can't even vote yet ✋🏻💀
Sebastian can’t claim Starling because the school has this weird rule where you’re not allowed to bother or touch freshmans. so a year later, when Starling enters sophomore year…Sebastian decides to make his move.
he follows Starling to work and kidnaps her after quitting her job for her 😀😀 while he’s taking Starling home, she passes out. which makes perfect sense since she’s just been kidnapped by a guy she has never spoken to prior to this and hE CALLED HER HIS GIRLFRIEND.
Sebastian decides to take her to his house where he instructs a doctor to drug her so he can put a tracking device in her neck
i’ve read my fair share of obsessed, psychotic heroes but this just feels so fucking creepy 😭 “my perfect little bird”. His reasoning for recording her is—
Sebastian goes on to call Starling's mom and explain that she passed out because she’s “over worked”, to which her mom agrees. her mom is actually the worst character. the way Starling explained that she’s was kidnapped and stalked and her mom just says-
LIKE WHAT??? HOW DO YOU NOT CARE ABOIT WHAT YOUR DAUGHTER IS TELLING YOU???
we kinda fast forward in the book to thanksgiving. Starling makes the conscious decision to go visit her dad in Maine for the holiday. unknowingly to her mom and Sebastian, she uses this opportunity to run away from her life in Florida and stay with her dad. i was truly shocked to see a heroine do something so smart…don’t worry tho, there’s still plenty of time for her to be an idiot 🥰🥰
college
while applying to colleges, Starling is shocked to learn that she’s been denied from every single one…EXCEPT the college near her old high school. she even got a full scholarship. how this girl didn’t put two and two together i will never understand.
Sebastian ends up transferring from Harvard to her new university so he can continue to stalk her. he begins playing mind games on her like changing her name in the university records to ‘Mrs. Starling Lockwood’ aka his surname. he follows her around campus to the point she feels like someone is watching her.
to make matters worse, he gets her placed in a house on campus where him and the other boys live 🤩🤩🤩
to get back at him for everything he's done, Starling wears a skimpy outfit and kisses Hunter in front of him. Sebastian, of course, is pissed by this and drags her up stairs to her room and takes her virginity. basically all the sex scenes in this are dubcon. I'm sorry, but the way the dirty talk was written had me dying of laughter—
He actually calls her a cum slut 4 times during this book. if your gonna give me some degradation, call her a whore or something…not a cum slut 💀
Sebastian did some other shit I couldn’t stand like the fact that he bought her clothes that were obviously too big for her. his solution is telling her “oh you just need to gain weight don’t worry”-

near the end of the book, Sebastian and the others having an enlightening. they realize that they’ve treated Starling horribly and ruined her. Sebastian decides to give her space by ignoring her. you’d think Starling would be happy that Sebastian is no longer controlling her life…NOPE
GIRL MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND ALREADY. If you want him, tell him…stop being pissed when he chases after you and then wonder why he isn’t 💀
after stating that Sebastian ruined her life by—
1. ruining her relationship with her mom and best friend
2. forcing her to flee from her high school
3. stalking and kidnapping her
4. causing her to develop panic attacks
she comes to a conclusion that she’s actually glowing...?
random note, remember when i talked about Sebastian filming Starling while she was unconscious? well he actually records her SO MANY TIMES throughout the book and she’s not just unconscious—
he doesn’t even ask😭😭😭 bro just straight up starts randomly recording her Starussy all the time
also, Starling and Sebastian never used a condom and he took her birth control pills away before they had sex for the first time yet they never even talked about her getting pregnant...is no one concerned about this other than me??
anyway, some shit happens that really didn’t add to the story, like Starling was almost raped by a guy on the football team. it honestly felt really random to have that happen in the second to last chapter of the book. after she was almost raped, Starling realizes that she loves Sebastian and that’s the end. no like it essentially ended with her saying “I love you”. It really threw me off like where’s the part of the book where we see them in a relationship???
This is why I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover and title😒

OMFG!! That, my friends, is how you write an OTT alpha. Sebastian Lockwood is the sexiest, most unrepentant, psychö alphahole I’ve ever met. Also: I am in love.
I am torn between “you have to read him” and “leave him the fcuk alone; he’s mine.” So I’ve settled on “look but don’t touch.”
On the first day of school, her sophomore year, Sebastian, a senior and 1/4 of the Acres Elite, lays claim to Starling Kennedy.
“I like to own things, now I own you. It doesn’t matter what you think you feel right now, eventually you’ll admit you want me just as much as I want you, until then your cage will just get smaller and smaller until you do as you’re told.”
He calls it destiny, she calls it obsession. Regardless, Bastian is unapologetic and relentless in his pursuit of Starling and is not above manipulative and high-handed tactics.
While he has orchestrated every facet of her life, Starling is strong of mind and will. However, as their relationship progresses, Starling waffles between snarky and pliable, which makes her and the situation that much more realistic.
Their love story is intense and overwhelming. It’s angsty and just when you think he’s maxed out his crazy, he takes it next-level.

There aren’t enough stars for Obsession and I don’t have adequate words for how much I loved it! I’m not sure I’ve ever read a Hero quite this, well, obsessed and I. Am. Here. For. It. ALL. Of. It. Seriously though, Bastian is OTT and will not be for everyone.
Goodreads suggests that this is book 1 in the Alphaholes series. I’m not sure if Gemma has announced or confirmed any additional books. If there are, I hope she goes full throttle again because this book was everything I’ve been looking for and hadn’t quite found in any other read.

4.5 stars-It's only my second book by Gemma Weir
And I want more just like it... this one pushes the darkness boundary, and I was ALLLLLL for it #JudgementFreeZone. Gimme more of these please (this is based on the filthy elites anthology version… I’ll update when I read the updated version)
Sebastian's part of the Elite at GAA. He and his three friends graduated to this role once they arrived their freshmen year. They're responsible for maintaining peace between students and enforcing rules/meting out punishments. With their title comes status and they're known for being manhooooars, but not Sebastian anymore💁🏻♀️. He wants Starling; in fact, he's been OBSESSING over her since he first laid eyes on her when she was a wittle itty bitty freshman👀, but because of the school's "leave freshmen alone" rule, he has to wait. But now, it's her sophomore year, and it's time. Time to claim what's his...😈
Sterling's a regular student whose mother's an author. She works to help make ends meet since her mom's job's not always reliable. Sebastian and his friends show up while she's working at the diner, but he's not there to eat. Nope. He's there to bulldoze his way into her life😉-he's been waiting, and he's tired of waiting now. So he does what any sensible person does- he gets her fired 💅
Sterling doesn't know what to make of this. Somehow, she's never noticed him, so what happens when he forcefully takes her to his house? She has an anxiety attack😬. Don't worry, Sebastian's going to take good care of her...😉
What I liked/loved: POSSIBLE SPOILERS-
-How OTT and j/p Sebastian is💁🏻♀️. This man knows no bounds, and he can't be told no either💅. I love that. Don't judge me lol. I mean, this guy has a room all set up for her before she even knows about his obsession (and it includes her favorite shampoo, body wash, and clothes that fit her)... he's been planning this for a whiiiiiiiile😅. No one else's gonna have her🤷🏻♀️. She's HIS Little Bird👀, and he'll clip her wings if he needs to in order to keep her😈
-the smexy scenes🔥. oh GOD… it gets STEAMY in this book 💦. Their first in-person interaction is 🥵. Sure, Sebastian becomes a little *forceful* 😈when it comes to giving her pleasure. Considering she's a virgin and doesn't know anything about smex, he makes sure to *forcibly* teach her all about it. Even when he takes her virginity, I was glued to the pages👀, which leads me to...
-the n0ncon/dubcon scenes😉. Yeah, I love them in my books, and there are plenty of them here🥵. Bastian can't be told no, even if it's coming from the mouth of his obsession💅. When he manipulates her to reveal herself and... find pleasure... I was alllll for it🔥 (even when he demands for her to get on her knees for... HIS pleasure, I was stuck to the pages👀)
-the push/pull😅. There's a looooooooot of pushing away from Starling's side😬. I appreciate it when the h doesn't always submit to the H, and Starling fights him. Don't you worry- Sebastian ALWAYS wins💁🏻♀️
-Sebastian marking his property🔥. Yup, I love this too😈. Please let the world know she's yours- let them SEE👀 she's yours... mark away, please💅
-How sweet and caring Bastian is🥰. Sure, he's forcing his way into her life😅, but he can also be very sweet and endearing. I like that Starling didn't always want to accept his help, but he made it a point to ensure she was okay, physically at least (emotionally/psychologically is a different story 🙃😅lol)
-the BBS. Look, normally, I don't like BBS in my books when the dynamic with the characters isn't the best, but somehow, I loved it in this book 🙃lol. Yes, Sebastian, you work her body like an instrument😈; I'm just here listening to the melody😉
-Sebastian's celibate🥰. Before he became obsessed, he was a manwhore, but once he sets eyes on her, she's IT for him❤️ swoooooon! When they're separated, they're both celibate (well, she's STILL a virgin when this happens)
-The cherry claiming scene🥵- sigh... it finally happens (around 53%), and I love how he did it😅. He starts off on the aggressive side🔥, but he changes and makes it memorable. The amount of Os can only make the rest of us poor mortals jealous😒. I also enjoyed Sebastian making sure no drop was wasted and it all stayed inside of her😉- and he takes a picture to forever remember this day🙃
-Taking away her BC- bahahaha, he's gonna make sure pills are no where in her future😈
-did I mention the smexy times🔥? I'm mentioning it again, cause once they cross the line, it's on💦

What I didn't like/wanted more of:
-She resisted A LOT... I would've liked her to give in sooner than she did, but hey, I prefer for her NOT to give in so easily like so many other h's, so it didn’t bother me
-The non-American things. There were many things that had be scratching my head. The learner's permit (her mom wouldn't need one- she's an adult), the cheerleaders for the fencing team (I've never heard of this), the use of "proper," the private school setting…
-Private schools tends to be small. As a sophomore, I found it weird asf that Starling doesn’t know who Sebastian is 🤔. How big is the school? It sounded to me like it was on the smaller side, so why doesn’t she know who they are? I get it. She stayed in her lane, but Sebastian and the Elite are wanted by everyone. It would’ve made more sense if she knew who he was and decided to not entertain his obsession with her BECAUSE of who he is and what he represents. Versus just not knowing who he is 😬
-Her mom😑. She irritated the f outta me 😒. I'm glad she isn't necessarily "redeemed." I wanted to slap her 🔪
-The change in Sebastian's approach towards the end. I mean, I get it. But, I wanted him to continue being... uh... aggressive towards Starling lol. I know. I know. I’m horrible lol. I’m sure this is done because of her anxiety attacks, but I still wanted him to continue being more bulldozy 😅lol
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed it. Out of the two books I've read by Gemma Weir, I love this one the most.

What I liked/loved: POSSIBLE SPOILERS-
-How OTT and j/p Sebastian is💁🏻♀️. This man knows no bounds, and he can't be told no either💅. I love that. Don't judge me lol. I mean, this guy has a room all set up for her before she even knows about his obsession (and it includes her favorite shampoo, body wash, and clothes that fit her)... he's been planning this for a whiiiiiiiile😅. No one else's gonna have her🤷🏻♀️. She's HIS Little Bird👀, and he'll clip her wings if he needs to in order to keep her😈
-the smexy scenes🔥. oh GOD… it gets STEAMY in this book 💦. Their first in-person interaction is 🥵. Sure, Sebastian becomes a little *forceful* 😈when it comes to giving her pleasure. Considering she's a virgin and doesn't know anything about smex, he makes sure to *forcibly* teach her all about it. Even when he takes her virginity, I was glued to the pages👀, which leads me to...
-the n0ncon/dubcon scenes😉. Yeah, I love them in my books, and there are plenty of them here🥵. Bastian can't be told no, even if it's coming from the mouth of his obsession💅. When he manipulates her to reveal herself and... find pleasure... I was alllll for it🔥 (even when he demands for her to get on her knees for... HIS pleasure, I was stuck to the pages👀)
-the push/pull😅. There's a looooooooot of pushing away from Starling's side😬. I appreciate it when the h doesn't always submit to the H, and Starling fights him. Don't you worry- Sebastian ALWAYS wins💁🏻♀️
-Sebastian marking his property🔥. Yup, I love this too😈. Please let the world know she's yours- let them SEE👀 she's yours... mark away, please💅
-How sweet and caring Bastian is🥰. Sure, he's forcing his way into her life😅, but he can also be very sweet and endearing. I like that Starling didn't always want to accept his help, but he made it a point to ensure she was okay, physically at least (emotionally/psychologically is a different story 🙃😅lol)
-the BBS. Look, normally, I don't like BBS in my books when the dynamic with the characters isn't the best, but somehow, I loved it in this book 🙃lol. Yes, Sebastian, you work her body like an instrument😈; I'm just here listening to the melody😉
-Sebastian's celibate🥰. Before he became obsessed, he was a manwhore, but once he sets eyes on her, she's IT for him❤️ swoooooon! When they're separated, they're both celibate (well, she's STILL a virgin when this happens)
-The cherry claiming scene🥵- sigh... it finally happens (around 53%), and I love how he did it😅. He starts off on the aggressive side🔥, but he changes and makes it memorable. The amount of Os can only make the rest of us poor mortals jealous😒. I also enjoyed Sebastian making sure no drop was wasted and it all stayed inside of her😉- and he takes a picture to forever remember this day🙃
-Taking away her BC- bahahaha, he's gonna make sure pills are no where in her future😈
-did I mention the smexy times🔥? I'm mentioning it again, cause once they cross the line, it's on💦
-THE BODY WASH SCENE🤣💦!!! bahahaha The nerve Sebastian💅! The freaking nerve💁🏻♀️, but also😈

What I didn't like/wanted more of:
-She resisted A LOT... I would've liked her to give in sooner than she did, but hey, I prefer for her NOT to give in so easily like so many other h's, so it didn’t bother me
-The non-American things. There were many things that had be scratching my head. The learner's permit (her mom wouldn't need one- she's an adult), the cheerleaders for the fencing team (I've never heard of this), the use of "proper," the private school setting…
-Private schools tends to be small. As a sophomore, I found it weird asf that Starling doesn’t know who Sebastian is 🤔. How big is the school? It sounded to me like it was on the smaller side, so why doesn’t she know who they are? I get it. She stayed in her lane, but Sebastian and the Elite are wanted by everyone. It would’ve made more sense if she knew who he was and decided to not entertain his obsession with her BECAUSE of who he is and what he represents. Versus just not knowing who he is 😬
-Her mom😑. She irritated the f outta me 😒. I'm glad she isn't necessarily "redeemed." I wanted to slap her 🔪
-The change in Sebastian's approach towards the end. I mean, I get it. But, I wanted him to continue being... uh... aggressive towards Starling lol. I know. I know. I’m horrible lol. I’m sure this is done because of her anxiety attacks, but I still wanted him to continue being more bulldozy 😅lol
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed it. Out of the two books I've read by Gemma Weir, I love this one the most.

Man this book… I couldn’t stop reading it. It was so good. Spicy AF, OTT JP H whose manipulative, obsessed and aggressive. Sebastian gave me Aiden king vibes (RES -if you know, you know) he’s easier than Aiden in the beginning and it’s not much of a bully but it def get progressively more aggressive. If you liked Aiden- you’ll like Sebastian.

-Obsessive H… I mean obsessive i loveeee it. He takes photos of her full of his 🥜 so he can look at it whenever he wants
-H watches h for a year as freshmen are untouchable. He’s watched from a far but kept himself away not even learning her name yet just waiting to claim her and this year he is
-OTT JP H
-V card h
-Slight stalker although this isn’t a big part but he watches over her for the 1 year she’s untouchable before he can claim her. Then other points in the book, he follows her on runs, he has photos of her on his phone sleeping. Has her classes on a seating chart so she’s where the security camera can see and he can watch 😂😈
-tracking device in h .. put in while she sleeps so she doesn’t know 😉
-manipulative H… he’s gonna get his way any way he needs to. He manipulates the doctor, h’s mom,
-HS /prep school type. h is not poor but not rich… H is filthy rich and an elite.

-the intro is hilarious and something I really love about Gemma, she knows how to write OTT JP H and I love her for it
-Care taking tendencies, meaning he likes to make sure she eats by ordering for her and telling her to “eat”, runs his hand down through her hair, sits her on his lap.
-marking … he sucks her neck to mark her in the lunch room 🤤 I always love this. Very possessive behavior
-changed her clothes 😉
-2.5 year separation… I know I know… I don’t really like separation but here she leaves intending to come back but just the thought of flying back home and dealing with H and everything is so overwhelming that she has started having panic attacks. She stays with her dad who is the ONLY person in her life who H can’t manipulate. He isolates her from everyone else.
Second half of the book: things are more intense. The H is more physically forceful and aggressive . He’s got some anger from when she left and didn’t come back willingly on her own.
-Our h is slightly broken, she’s still scared of H and wants nothing to do with him. She feels like everything is about him and he doesn’t care about what she wants and she has no control over her own life.
-we can see H POV so we know he really cares for her. He doesn’t always go about it the right way but we know what his intentions are because he loves her and is obsessed.
-OW drama: really is none. Her ex best friend, eludes to have been with H and his 3 friends while h was gone but H says he’s never been with her and he makes the statement that “he doesn’t get hard for anyone since he saw her” so I’m choosing to believe he’s been celibate while they were apart.
-OM drama: none really but their is 1 where a dude that has been flirting and she has just kept away from bc she’s not into anyone but Sebastian. He gets her alone at a party- she doesn’t want to be alone with him, and fights him.

Loved it but also hated it
I have a love hate relationship with Gemma Weir’s books. I love love LOVE her OTT J/P men. They are outrageous but I’m here for it! The crazier the better! What I hate about her books are the heroines. I think out of the 6 books of hers that I’ve read, there have only been 2 heroines that didn’t annoy me.
Starling was annoying AF. She was so whiny and indecisive. She kept saying she didn’t want Sebastian, when she really did. I appreciate a certain amount of push and pull between h and H in books, especially in this particular trope. I love it when the h doesn’t give in too easily. But this was just too much! Starling kept insisting that she hated Sebastian until about 75% into the book. Then when he finally listened to her after the millionth time she asked him to leave her alone, she was constantly whining about how pissed off she was that he left her alone! Like… girl! Make up your damn mind! I hated her.
These three stars are for Sebastian, his friends and the hot AF smexy scenes.

This baby was in a anthology is honestly just read the book for this story so I decided to just have it on this book review. I'm say this right now if you havent read Gemma books remember her men are OTT red flags lol so just read for funs don't take this to serious.
Lord when she said Sebastian was ott THAT BOY IS OTTTTTT!! like fudge!!! He's been watching Starling for about a year in school but can't touch her since she's freshmen and alil underage. So he waits but makes sure no one messes with her. When it's finally time to claim his girl he does but he thinks she'll fall In line but Starling doesn't she hates the idea and doesn't want anything to do with Sebastian but he pushes and pushes she sorta gives in she likes him but she hates how he acts. And on top of that her mother is head over heels in love with the idea of them and so does her best friend (at the time) it's to toxic for Starling and she feels more alone so she runs away during winter break and doesn't come back. Which boyyyyy Sebastian is a wreck but he let's her go for a moment.
Now it's been few years she's at a new school ready for college and guess who are her roommates... yup Sebastian and the boys. This time around Starling does fight back but she's alil broken inside doesn't trust anyone to be her friend doesn't even trust the boys. She's a shell of herself..
I wanted to hug startling and shake her when she finally got what she wanted Sebastian "leaving" her alone, acting like a brat and was like "oh now he doesn't wanna chase me" GIRL MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!! He finally "gives up" and your pissed?? You been saying to leave you alone and all that. I swear sometimes Starling did annoy me when the reunion happened. Like yes Sebastian was lying about leaving her alone wanting her to chase him he was such a douche that I loved him in the end. He knew what he wanted (even if it was so toxic) but heck it was good.
I kinda wish the ex best friend got hers and I hope the relationship with the mom didn't heal after the Epilogue she was a bitch.. sorry to say .

April 30, 2022DNF @ 50% - it’s the farthest I’ve ever gotten in a book by this author. 🤷🏼♀️ - I decided to try again since this one was getting so many great reviews, and it’s HS/college, which is my jam….. but the instalove, the obvious lack of research/alpha readers to get life in the US correct, the laundry list of pandering tropes, the silly OTT caricature MCs - nothing makes sense. The h is TSTL and she doesn’t want to be with the H. At all. And she’s bratty and obnoxious about it. Eh. Just not my flavor. 😕
I think this author would be easier to read if she did Jessa Kane style novellas. The outlandish instalove and OTT plots and characters make more sense in a very short book. This longer format requires some actual fleshing out of characters and motivations and I expect some character and relationship development.

He's no Travis Maddox.
I cant see any basis for his obsession.
He doesn't know her as a person.
She fights him every step of the way only because he's this weirdo comes out of nowhere and declares her as his. She doesn't even know him. He's just another guy she's seen around.
In OTT hero reads, there's this line between the best kind of alpha obsessive possessiveness and whacked-in-the-head-wanna-be-alphas .
He's the whacked in the head one.
Like wayyyy over that line.
It started well and I settled down to read my next best OTT hero.
Next thing I know he's the weirdo caveman. MOST unattractive.
Of course when he seems to be pulling away that's when her overloaded ovaries take over.
I stopped there because she was playing into his hands and confirming what he thought all along: that she was as into him as he was to her.
I will admit that so far he doesn't change from being a dick to being Mr Nice Guy.
At least he's consistent.
I'll catch up with them if the rest of the cast get their own books.

I was entertained enough to finish it, so there's that?
This author has a weird relationship with punctuation that I find distracting (among other issues). Too much telling rather than showing. The hero was one-dimensional, the heroine was annoying, and it left off on more of an HFN than an actual HEA.

This author has a weird relationship with punctuation that I find distracting (among other issues). Too much telling rather than showing. The hero was one-dimensional, the heroine was annoying, and it left off on more of an HFN than an actual HEA.

Ultra Alpha
So I love the Mountain Men and smoke jumpers- I know that’s not there exact tag but loooved them so went into this one. Ok he’s a bit much, like 20 times over and I loved her fight but I think it tipped the scale a bit too much…. but still good! I would have loved to have seen her former bff get mentioned or at least see things followed with that one, figured since hurt her come on little retribution but still good!

3.5 CRAZY stars!
Sebastian Lockwood might be one of the craziest and sexiest male characters I've ever read. Sebastian is part of the Elite and he sets his eyes on Starling Kennedy and vows to make her his whether she wants him or not. Bastian is obsessed and not your normal kind of obsessed...obsessed as in he controls EVERY little piece of Starling's life. He maneuvers her everywhere so that the two of them are end game.
Bastian is NOT going to be for everyone so be aware of this if you decide to dive into this deliciously crazy and psychotic story. Starling is a good character butttt I think she fought too much. I mean yeah...she should have based off what Bastian did and said but I'm all about that obsessive stalkerish male hero life in my romance novels. Not in real life obviously.
I think you need to go into this blind because it really is a gem if you like completely OVER THE TOP alpha males. This can be found in the Filthy Elites Anthology. I can't wait to see more from this Alphaholes world. Please and thank you Gemma.

I have raised my rating to a 5 because this book has given me a book-hangover in the worst way. I just want to read a book exactly like this but different enough that it feels like I am reading a different book. Is that too much to ask? I think the reason this book worked so well for me is that "Obsession" is essentially a bully romance without the out-right bullying. This book had all of the possessiveness and obsession without the degradation.
Insta-love is hit or miss for me, but if there is insta-obsession I am there. I need a recommendation for a book like this but all books that are similar are to bully-ish for me. I don't know what to do! *End of rant*

It's a bit odd of me but I love obsession stalker ish hero.... I love it so much that the hero goes over the top for the heroine and will do anything to have her... So very protective and in a young age he already want to have her forever in his arms....
What I don't like about this book: The heroine is pushing away the hero many times. At first I know her reasons was reasonable then her reason for me it's a bit stupid... I don't know but I just like it if the hero already says he wants her and be obsessed with her, I want the heroine to already said yes and be okay with it. Not be so complicated about it... I know it's crazy of me but I just like that I don't know why😂😂 And the story is a bit unnecessary childish drama in it which made me exhausted cause even though i love drama, if it's too childish or bit childish it made my eye rolling and say come on shut up lol. I know this story is about kids in high school so of course they would be childish but still made my eye rolling😆
‼️‼️‼️ no cheating, it has separation for two years but both are very loyal and never have s3x with someone else so both are celibate, like i said the hero is very over the top possessive protective rich alpha male and he use to be a manwhor3 but not anymore since he spotted the heroine and even waited on her for a year and that entire year he was very much celibate which thank god, the heroine is a virgin and the hero is actually her first kiss and first of everything even in relationship, great chemistry and slightly ow and om drama and happy ending i guess? Lol. The ending is annoying cause it says that their relationship is still going on for months and she likes more of his obsession towards her and have no prob. Which made me give this book a 4 stars.... I want babies and them old and gray lol.

Sebastian benim okuduğum en manipülatif adam. Yani çok psikopat okumuş değilim ama ilk defa bir kadına bu şekilde yaklaşan bir erkek okuyorum. Kızı gördü beğendi ve gidip benimsin dedi resmen öküz. This story was just borderline absurd and over the top ridiculous and toxic and yet I found myself devouring it all up in a very short time lol. Love me an unhinged hero.

I have not finished reading this book. In fact, I’ve only read the prologue so far. But 5 stars in advance because it seems like this book is gonna deliver the morally grey MMC I have been waiting for 🥂
Now this is obsession.
Okay, I finished. And the 5 stars I gave this book prematurely? Boy are they staying. In a mood to read, I went on a search to find a high school bully romance book. And I am so glad I went digging through my TBR instead of drowning myself in a list where the results could have varied heavily. Some quotes to convince you to read the book:
“So when he told me she and her mother ate a lot of Italian food, I contacted the kitchens and made sure they altered the menu just for her.” THIS MAN HAD THEIR CAFETERIA ADD FOOD THAT SHE LIKES WITHOUT HER EVER UTTERING A WORD TO HIM. The bar suddenly got higher
“If I need to, I’ll marry my little bird right now, then she’ll be mine legally and her mother won’t be able to stop me doing whatever I want to my wife. I like the way that sounds. My wife.” Look, I know that morally it's wrong, but my heart likes it okay. If I heard a man say he liked the sound of me being his wife I would melt. Combust. Out of pure happiness alone. Just saying (future husband who is working hard to stalk me: TAKE NOTES)
“Bastian: Come and sit back in my lap.” I would probably trip and die with how fast I would try to scramble on Sebastian’s lap if I got this text

Obsession was a great title for this book. A perfect fit if I do say so myself.
It is told in dual perspectives, Starling is our FMC and Sebastian is our MMC.
The book starts off with Starlings POV. First day of Sophomore year. She's the only student from the wrong side of the tracks and in the entirety of the school body, she's the only one who doesn't come from a financially rich background. She has only one friend (Courtney) and instead of going all over the world like her rich peers over the summer break, Starling was picking up shifts at the diner she works for because her mum does not have a stable income.
Directly after this chapter, we get Sebastian's, and let me tell you, this man is WHIPPED. He became obsessed with her at first sight. But because of a system that the school follows each year, no one is allowed to relatively mess with freshmen. They are set to show how they soar or fail. When Starling started, Sebastian was in Junior year, so it was hands off and I'm actually surprised our mans followed that rule. For a year, he and his 3 closest friends watched her. There was always one person with her, obviously unbeknownst to her. Day one of her sophomore year though? There were no rules and our mans did not wait a second. He was a man in need and I feel that so hard.
Let it be known, there is not much plot in this book apart from relationships. In saying that, I promise you will not get bored and may also consume the book in one sitting as I did.
I will not lie, from the start of this book to about page 180, I was kicking my feet, biting my nails. The whole works. I fell in love with Sebastian hard. So hard that I didn't think anything could rock it.
But it did. The writing style of Gemma Weir is so freaking captivating, I feel manipulated. Because there's first half of the book me, utterly obsessed with Sebastian, then theres the latter half of the book me, utterly broken for Starling.
“There’s no one to lose if there’s no one there in the first place.”
Oof. break it. it's fine. break it (my heart).
I'm not a super dark romance reader (not that this was a super dark book) because I think there's a part of me where I sometimes can't diminish fiction from reality. However a part of this book did leave me on the tips of my toes and have me questioning if I could go further or not. Morally grey MMC's are fine, but one thing that really tore me with Sebastian was how much of a perfect fit he was to the morally grey role, vs reading from Starling's POV and feeling everything she was feeling. It was a complete mind fuck and I kept questioning myself around their relationship, contorting it to a real one and asking myself if it would be okay. I think that's ultimately why I loved this read, it was challenging. And we still got our HEA.
This is the first book I have read from Gemma Weir and best believe it definitely won't be the last 🫶

She has only one friend (Courtney) and instead of going all over the world like her rich peers over the summer break, Starling was picking up shifts at the diner she works for because her mum does not have a stable income.
Directly after this chapter, we get Sebastian's, and let me tell you, this man is WHIPPED. He became obsessed with her at first sight. But because of a system that the school follows each year, no one is allowed to relatively mess with freshmen. They are set to show how they soar or fail. When Starling started, Sebastian was in Junior year, so it was hands off and I'm actually surprised our mans followed that rule. For a year, he and his 3 closest friends watched her. There was always one person with her, obviously unbeknownst to her. Day one of her sophomore year though? There were no rules and our mans did not wait a second. He was a man in need and I feel that so hard.
Let it be known, there is not much plot in this book apart from relationships. In saying that, I promise you will not get bored and may also consume the book in one sitting as I did.
I will not lie, from the start of this book to about page 180, I was kicking my feet, biting my nails. The whole works. I fell in love with Sebastian hard. So hard that I didn't think anything could rock it.
But it did. The writing style of Gemma Weir is so freaking captivating, I feel manipulated. Because there's first half of the book me, utterly obsessed with Sebastian, then theres the latter half of the book me, utterly broken for Starling.
“There’s no one to lose if there’s no one there in the first place.”
Oof. break it. it's fine. break it (my heart).
I'm not a super dark romance reader (not that this was a super dark book) because I think there's a part of me where I sometimes can't diminish fiction from reality. However a part of this book did leave me on the tips of my toes and have me questioning if I could go further or not. Morally grey MMC's are fine, but one thing that really tore me with Sebastian was how much of a perfect fit he was to the morally grey role, vs reading from Starling's POV and feeling everything she was feeling. It was a complete mind fuck and I kept questioning myself around their relationship, contorting it to a real one and asking myself if it would be okay. I think that's ultimately why I loved this read, it was challenging. And we still got our HEA.
This is the first book I have read from Gemma Weir and best believe it definitely won't be the last 🫶

This story was such an emotionally charged book, with layers of hate and love, and throw in well-crafted characters, and you have the makings of a book that you cannot put down.

Sighhhhh… Long rant ahead- beware for SPOILERS-
Re-reading this because I wanted to continue this series but as I read this book again and read the reviews on the other two books, I decided not to for the sake of my sanity.
I honestly feel so, so sorry for the fmc in this book, Starling for the way her rights were violated and taken away by some random psychopath whom instead of pursuing this poor girl like a normal person would, forced her and strip her of her own wills out of nowhere. Poor girl even fainted because she was so stressed and scared because why was this random a$$ guy out of blue telling her that she’s his girlfriend and he literally controlled her by manipulating everyone around her including her unbelievably stupid and selfish mother who would believe over a random guy than her own child. He also s€xually assaulted her, giving her no other options than to spread her legs or open her mouth for him to use her. She literally shed tears while doing so but hey since she’s turned on I guess it’s all okay huh. /s
Starling fought back of course but the body betraying syndrome and the non/dub-cons in this book really makes me nauseous and disgusted. I feel bad for this girl because she has no experience in s€x and the mmc Sebastian took advantage of that and treated her like a s€x toy basically. He coerced her and threatened her and even at some points, manhandling her and causing bruises & an actual fear inside of her thus making her experience mental breakdown. And that is where I draw the line. Why would I want to root for a guy who physically assaulted and causes such reaction to his so called love of his life?
I’m not even going to praise him over his celibacy because the bar is really that low if I do. In fact I don’t think that he did. I had a hunch he fooled around with Starling’s ex bff Courtney because he told Starling he “never f*cked her” not “never touch her”. And oh he also bought clothes for the fmc but she noticed the size would fit Courtney more than her. Womp womp.
Their relationship was so surface-leveled and the mmc didn’t even try his best to win her heart but just forcing himself on her and telling her to do whatever he wanted and kept on touching her against her will but of course it’s not r@pe if she got wet. /s
There’s so many f*cked up things that he did to her I don’t even know where to start. He keeps on snarling and getting on her face when she tried to argue for her opinions to be heard or when she disobeyed his ridiculous demands. And mind you the h was still underage when this all started! She was 15 years old and the H is a year or two older from her if I remember correctly. And his friends are as worst as him by being his accomplices while acknowledging what the H did is wrong but because he’s the leader, they all act remorse and sorry but snickering and laughing the next seconds. When Starling didn’t reciprocate their kind gestures, these pathetic f*cks had the audacity to feel sad over it. Really? You lot helped a man forcefully takeover some innocent girl’s life and you’re surprised she hated y’all guts? DUHHH. Thankfully they all saw how much this ruined the h life and confronted the H. Wish it didn’t take them this long to finally speak up.
And excerpt from her conversation with one of the friends:
"As your sister, would you want me to be in a powerless relationship where I was being held against my will, where in a fit of anger a man isolated me, removed all the meaningful relationships in my life until all I had left was him? Would you want your sister to be held captive by that man, forced to have sex with that man and used for his pleasure without thought for if that was something she wanted? Because from where I'm sitting, it's exactly like that. Sebastian strolled into my life when I was barely sixteen years old and declared I was his. When I was so unhappy and lonely that I ran to the other side of the country to get away from him, he threw a tantrum and destroyed my relationship with my mother. Years later, he orchestrated a situation that has left me yet again vulnerable and isolated, only this time, he took my virginity and is literally holding me, captive in a very expensive cage.”
That’s basically what this book is about. This was taken 70% into the story by the way so the H spent the majority of the book harassing the h. At around 75% I started to skim through the book because I already lost my interest because I knew how it’s all going to unfold. She’s still feeling scared and basically his prisoner. The H is pathetic he can’t even get a girlfriend without forcing her against her own wills and while the h did put up a fight for the majority of the book, she was groomed to be under his thumb and to fully embrace the forced reality of her life now with this H. Stockhold syndrome at its finest.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE me some OTT possessive alpha males and I have read plenty of dark romance books with all sort of f*cked-up stuffs but being reduced to become just a toy he can play around with and having no say in any matters is where I draw the line. I know from the TWs this isn’t going to be your typical “romance” book but I wouldn’t say that this romance at all.

One hella OTT story. Lucky that I read this when I was in the mood for something crazy if not maybe I’d ditch this lol. I DON’T agree with this if it’s a real life situation, but for entertainment I’m all in. The ending was quite uneventful tho.. wishing for something more but overall an engaging book.

Well. I finally finished it. I'm pretty conflicted on this one. I think I might just not click with this author's writing style. However, despite all the many many times I was about to DNF, she managed to suck me back in. The premise of this story is right up my alley and I wasn't even that bothered by the heroine who seems to have annoyed lots of people with her persistent resistance to the hero. Honestly, for me, the hero is what makes these types of books worthwhile. And, unfortunately, Sebatian, while having some promising moments, just missed the mark. Starting with his weird unexplained initial obsession with Starling and continuing on with unreasonable over the top behavior that made him into a caricature of an obsessed hero ignoring all boundaries. And I do love a bulldozer who won't take no for an answer. But he needs to not be a one dimensional cutout of a hero. I need substance, I need to understand what it is that drives his obsession with the heroine. The book picked up for me a little once they got to college. I enjoyed seeing the emotional toll that Sebastian's obsession took on Starling. Did Sebastian grow during their Separation? Not really. But I didn't expect him to. I feel like, ultimately, the connection that these two shared was based on lust not love. The author failed to convince me that they're going to make it. I did love the fact that even when Sebastian supposedly stepped away and gave Starling space he really didn't. However, that was somewhat ruined by weird negotiations as to what boundary crossing behavior Starling would be ok with. I get the desire to somewhat redeem the hero, but, in this case, I would have rather just leaned into his crazy. Despite all these issues, there were some pretty hot moments, and, as I said, the story managed to suck me back in. I will also implore this author to do a bit of research on how things work in the US if she's going to base her books there because some of that was way off.

I feel like this is one of the easier reviews to write. This is a NA romance, set first in high school, then 2 1/2 years later, in college.
Starling Kennedy is entering her sophomore year at Green Acres Academy, a private school for the rich (who are from North Acres). Starling’s lives with her mother on the border of North Acres, right before it turns into South Acres, where the residents have considerably less money. Starling isn’t popular, she has one friend, Courtney Ortega, who wouldn’t mind snagging an Elite for herself. As for Starling, she “...just want[s] to make it through sophomore year with as little drama and involvement as possible.”
At GAA theres an Elite group of seniors that are selected every year. The current four were selected their freshman year, which is unheard of. Clay Jansen, Hunter Rossberg, Evan Morris, and Sebastian Lockwood. The Elite “play kings and queens and literally rule over the place with an iron fist.“
Sebastian is obsessed with Starling. He’s over the top possessive. Jealous. And he loves controlling Starling. He refuses to change.
Starling fights him every step of the way.
If you’re like me and you love an obsessed, possessive, jealous Hero... this is really well done, hits ALL the right notes, and will have you in love with the devoted man Sebastian is.
If you’re sane and you like boundaries to be respected, and freedom for the heroine... you might want to skip this one.
