Jade #1.5

Garret

Rate this book
My life is nothing but rules. Rules for how I act. How I dress. Who I date. Who my friends are. I hate the rules and yet I keep following them. Until I met Jade. Being with her is forbidden. She’s not one of us. She’s not allowed in my world. But I don’t care. She’s different and I like her and I want her. And the fact that she wants nothing to do with me makes me want her even more.

But my father won’t allow it. Neither will the people around me. Being with Jade means making deals, blackmail, bribes – whatever it takes to keep my relationship with her a secret.

Jade has no idea what my life is like. She doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t know about my family and what they’re involved in. And although I can’t tell her all my secrets, there’s one rule she must know: Never ask questions. It’s a rule that I live by. Because in my world, knowing the answers can get you killed.

Though I loved 'Choosing You' (Jade, #1), I had a hard time with this retelling from Garrett's point of view. It was more like a 2-2.5 star book for me, but my love for the series and the characters bumped it up to 3 here.

This book tells the *entirety* of 'Choosing You' from Garrett's point of view. All of it. Every single scene and interaction. Plus all of Garrett's family/social circle drama that he has going on on the side. It's honestly exhausting.

I LOVED seeing how Garrett sees Jade and how he comes to understand her actions, habits, and knee-jerk reactions. It's so lovely to see his affection grow for her. However, all of this gets bogged down by repetition, both of all of the details of the first book (word for word) as well as his own thoughts. I can't tell you how many times he has the same thoughts go through his mind -- about Jade or his family situation -- and how they're constantly repeated throughout the novel. This book could've been a short story or a novella had it not been for the constant repetition.

There are definitely some gold nuggets in here (especially when it comes to Garrett, as he's not as innocent or altruistic as he seems in 'Choosing You' -- he's actually slightly terrible when Jade first meets him), but I'm not sure they were worth slogging through the same story again. But hopefully some of these nuggets and insights pay off later in the series.

I loved Garret's POV. Getting inside his head offered a different view and different insight on the story as it unfolds. On his end I was more able to see the parental dynamics between him and Pearce. Again...I can't believe Pearce has become so cold...hopefully there's a warm place left inside his heart somewhere.

Looking forward to the other books.

** 3.5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐💫 **

It was nice to read Garret's side of things. I wish we would have his POV in all installments of the series. In Garret, we got to learn more about his struggles with alcohol, of the difficult relationship with his father/family and also a few other things I would have preferred to not have any knowledge of. Such as details of his relationships and sex life with Sadie and other girls but specially with Sadie. Also, we got to see that he lied/omitted a lot more in Choosing You and we did not know about. However, we also got to read his feelings for Jade flourishing and follow him as he became a better person.

This is the same story as Choosing You (Jade #1), but from Garret's perspective.

So I finished the first book pretty late and tried to sleep afterwards. Except that was pretty much impossible, and I ended up having to grab this one and get little to no sleep.

This is everything that happened in Choosing You, but from Garret's point of view. If you've read the first book, then you already know he's pretty freaking awesome. Getting to see the story told from his perspective really just helped me love him more than I already did.

The biggest issue is that there is a lot of repetitious story line. Sometimes it felt like she just copied and pasted paragraphs from Jade's point of view but changed the name to Garret. Although there are some new scenes, and those were definitely worth the read.

I think it would be pretty awesome to read more of the story line this way though.

If you have read the first book in this series then you seriously don't need to read this book. It is an exact duplicate of the first book by told from Garret's POV. There is nothing I hate more than when an author does this. I skipped so many pages because I had already read 80% if not more of this book already. There wasn't enough extra in this book to waste your money or time. I can usually read a book very quickly but I just kept getting distracted by other things because this book just couldn't keep me interested. If you want to give both sides of a POV do it in the same book instead of wasting people's money to read to much repeated dialogue.

Love Garret's book!

I love this series and when I found out Ms. Everhart decided to write a book from Garret's POV, I was excited!! It runs parallel with the first book! Awesome reading his POV! It gave us so much more insight into his actions and his reasoning! You will definitely want to read this if you have read the series! I would definitely love to read more of Garret's POV from any of the other books! Can't wait t for the next book!

Wow! Normally I am not a fan of people writing the same book but in a different perspective but for this series I am all for it! The mystery behind Garrett's dads "work" is exciting to read about and I felt like we got a lot more backstory this time around. Definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance. The only thing I ask is add some more steam ;)

It was alright. I like reading contemporary romance books from the male perspective, but this one didn't have enough extra content. It was literally the exact same book with all the same dialog. There was maybe half a page worth of new dialog in total.

I still liked seeing things from his pov, I just would have liked more.

Oh Garrett!!

While I love reading a story from both characters point of view, Garrett might have outdid them all!

I absolutely loved reading Choosing You from Garrett's view! The added information, the first hand knowledge that Garrett truly does fall for Jade! Absolutely wonderfully written!

More from Garrett side.

I loved hearing Garrett side of everything. it give u a different perspective on him and how he reacts to everything that is thrown at him. I love love to have his side of all of the books, but I know that's to ask for.

and because of this book I did! Crazy read-aholic- that's me! Read them twice in one year!

Sigh

this has been one of my most favorite couples. Garrett's POV made me love him even more. Allie has given so many dimensions to these characters and this story. I would love to get Garrett's POV on all the books in this series

Garret

It was amazing having the book in his view because it comes and says how much he loves jade and that he really would do everything for her only it could of been a bit longer to finish the conference

Very repetitive of Knowing you especially if you read this right after. Most dialogue is just repeated, so I found myself just skimming through.
