Nixie is a genie with a problem. She's just killed her Master. Kind of a big no-no for her kind, but really, what did the ruling council of genie's expect her to do? It's not like she was given a handbook on how to be a "proper genie". She was never even supposed to wind up in Kingdom. She'd been born on Earth, Chicago specifically. Her father also happens to be Tristan Black, which yeah, kind of an issue. Now they've thrown the book at her, locking her away in the most wild, most hidden part of Kingdom and only the bravest could ever have a hope of saving her from a prison of perpetual darkness.
Robin Hood is a man on a mission. The tales have gotten this "hero" all wrong, he may not be the altruistic knight of yore, in fact, he might even be attempting a coup of his realm.
But as we all know, in Kingdom, things are rarely as they seem...
Marie Hall is a USA Today Bestselling author and has always held a dangerous fascination for creatures that go bump in the night. And mermaids. And of course fairies. Trolls. Unicorns. Shapeshifters. Vampires. Scottish brogues. Kilts. Beefy arms. Ummm... Bad boys! Especially the sexy ones.
Then the day came she realized apart from the sexy bad boy she married, there'd be no vampires/shapeshifters/mermaids/fairies/or even stinky trolls in her future unless she wrote about them. More often than not she can be found roaming the wild, lush tropical forest she calls her backyard (a.k.a. Hawaii) and day dreaming constantly about her latest project.
Her Mad Hatter is the first book of her Kingdom Series.
She loves to hear from her readers and can be reached at mariehallwrites@gmail.com!
This story fits in well within the Kingdom series. It was an interesting take on the Robin Hood tale as well. I liked Robin and Nixie as a couple. They were fun and I found the peculiarities of their initial relationship to be really interesting. As strong as the draw was between them they could only connect on a cerebral level for a long time. I liked that they were forced to talk more than most due to Nixie's nature as a genie.
I felt for Nixie in this story. She was never raised to think she'd ever have to serve as a genie. She was raised on Earth and really is only half genie anyway. Her confinement was such a trial for her. Of course Robin is a personality all his own. Together they were an entertaining pair.
I'm looking forward to finishing this arc in the world of Kingdom.
Marie Hall has done it again. I absolutely loved this story. Her writing has only gotten better and I’ve loved it from the beginning. Nixie’s story with Robin Hood was fabulous! I couldn’t put it down!
I have completely fell in love with this series. I like that they all some what tie into each other and introduce characters to the next book in them. This book is a great retailing of the Robin Hood story.
I love this series, I can't get enough, this book is a great addition, robin and nix are a great story, I loved the story and how everything played out, I would highly recommend this book.
Genies are generally not my thing, but Marie Hall has made me fall in love with her brand of rule breaking djinn. I don't know why I even doubt I'll enjoy any of her stories anymore. Once again this author has managed to create yet another beautifully relatable, but unique love match. Even better is how this story is a combination of two tales that I would have never thought to combine, but somehow make perfect sense. One of these characters makes a cameo in the previous book, Hood's Obsession. This seems to be the Marie Hall's way when she's trying to prepare you for charcters that she plans to write about in upcoming stories. So, I advise, if you wish to enjoy these tales fully, start from book one, Her Mad Hatter, and work your way through chronologically. By doing this you get to see the characters evolve and the world of Kingdom grow. Every story is romantic, smart, funny, and has just enough seriousness to make it believable. I can't wait to read the next book in my magical journey through Kingdom. So, I'm off to read A Pirate's Dream, I'll let y'all know how it goes, but I'm sure I'll be just as happy with it as I've been with the last ten and a half.
This book was by far the worst in the series. It completely contradicts what we were told in jinnis story. Nothing makes sense. The little explanation you get doesn't actually explain anything. And now they have to pretend to be other people? Duh!
I felt like the author didnt even try with this book. This book was a waste of my time and I hope the next one isn't awful like this one.
I can't say enough about marie hall and the stories she brings to life. As is always the case and it's no different in Her One Wish. Simply it's just that marie writes the characters and their stories in a way that truly lets the reader empathize with the characters struggles and joys as if they are people you have known all your life. The characters truly root deep within you always from the first few pages. We have all at one time or another as people have felt isolated or trapped in a less than ideal situation. This is what makes it so simple for anyone and everyone to be able to know what nixie was feeling and why, you truly want her to have her happy ending. The kingdom series, Dark princesses, are a world and a story so easy to embrace and get lost in eagerly. In a world where happy endings are most unlikely Marie's books give hope that maybe all the struggles we face in our day to day lives may one day be worth it and lead us to the people we were always meant to be. Hope such as that is priceless. I myself am faced with an illness that drains me, but for the short time I read these books I smile,I laugh,I cry. I get to step out of my grim reality and embrace a world where anything is possible, imperfection is perfect, peace is achievable through hard work and determination, and the age old saying that love conquers all is fact. Her one wish is a fantastic tale that anyone should be eager top read. Marie Hall has been since I first read her work and will be for a long time to come one of my absolute favorite authors. I cannot wait for her next book and neither should you. Truly a must read!
Another great book in this series! As always the perfect blend of fairy tale, adventure and romance.
Just finished this one and I can't wait till the next book in the series. And the dark queens and witches series can't be released soon enough for me.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This story is absolutely amazing. I read it in one sitting. Nixie is the daughter of Paz and Tristan Black. She is the first of her kind ( mother is mortal and the father is a genie in a golems body). Because of this the other genies take Nixie away and force her to be a genie for 50 years (they just took her and didn't explain the rules of being a genie). Then the unthinkable happens, Nixie kills her master (she did it to protect an innocent woman). The genies punish her by making her serve 100 years as a genie, hide her bottle from the world , she can never be far from her bottle and keep her in complete darkness until her bottle is found. Not for long if Danika has her way. The hero of this story is Robin Hood ( he is nothing like fairytales and his merrymen are not so merry). He is told by a fortune teller that the answer to his quest lies with the dark genie (Danika called in a favor). Robin heard the stories about the dark genie (I wonder who the genie is
Can I just give it 6 stars. Seriously 6 stars. The end.
I went into this one thinking it would be 'sort of meh'. Jinni's Wish was probably my least favourite of the Bad Boys series so I expected much the same from his daughter. I ADMIT IT! I was wrong. Maybe it was the fact that I didn't expect much but ... well this about sums it up ...
I can't even pick up a new book right now. My mind just wont let me move on just yet.
I can't even say exactly what makes me I loved it, it just has all the elements for me. Characters I fell in love with and others I seethed with hate for. A well written and awesomely executed story. It was just beautiful. It took me on an emotional ride and I love it for it. I don't know maybe I'm just hormonal but gah!
Her One Wish impacted me on an emotional level that Marie Hall’s other novellas failed to reach. It was bittersweet. Horrifying. An example of injustice that had me crying for Nixie almost from start to finish. And the characters were so beautifully crafted, so three-dimensional. I pitied Robin before his ‘truth’ was revealed, and I felt that the relationship was allowed true time to progress and flourish, which perhaps was denied to other couples in the previous books. Not to say that the length of Nixie’s curse alone allowed their romance to become a legend, but rather that the way they endured, the emphasis on mind and spirit, rather than body, and the involvement of other characters, who provided comfort but not unrealistic miracles, helped to build a realistic and enduring tale of love, heartbreak and the true perils of reality. While I do not give this tale five stars, it is only because it was too tame for my tastes.

This book just began with a heart wrenching scene, damned genie council! I wanted to hate them for forcing Nixie away from her family to serve them but if they hadn't done that, all the events leading up to her killing her master, to getting banished, to getting found and finding love with Robin Hood would probably not have had happened so at the end of the day, I guess the genie council weren't that bad, but they were still douchebags for banishing Nixie into a world of darkness for almost 100 years...that was just plan cruel!
I enjoyed reading the love story between her and Robin, as usual nothing we knew of the actual Robin Hood was true, except one or two things, but the way they stayed true to each other the last years of her imprisonment, that was beautiful. Theirs was a sad but lovely story and as always Danika and her matchmaking never goes wrong!
Marie Hall weaves another fantastic fairy tale in "Her One Wish." Nixie, daughter of Paz and Jinni, is called in front of the Genie high council just after her eighteenth birthday. As a daughter of a genie, she has magic in her blood, and as a result is forced into servitude for fifty Kingdom years. The problem is that she wants to live a mortal life on Earth. Being turned into a genie meant that she'd have to leave behind her parents, her mortal uncles, and her boyfriend. Her parents are immortal, so she'd see them again in the future, but everyone else would be long dead by the time she'd be free. When she couldn't fathom things getting any worse, they do. Overall, "Her One Wish" is extremely well written, emotionally charged, and an amazing read. Oh, and by the way, Robin Hood is in it as well!
Another amazing success by Hall! This story had you deeply emotionally involved right from the first chapter. You find yourself inbetted in twists and turns making you see a legendary character develop before your eyes...
Simply you fall in love with these two amazing characters, are teased/introduced to future characters in new Kingdom series and of course add another "favourite" to your booklist.
If you've read the books before this one you'll love it and if this might be the first time you read any of her Kingdom series you won't feel lost...but a warning: Guarantee you'll become addicted.
This series started out so well, but the past few books have been all insta-love and not really much plot. Like, stop writing paragraph after paragraph about the two main characters lusting after one another and learn how to write a damn plot. Jesus Christ. I know Marie Hall knows how because the first few books were actually really good. Just stop with the soulmates, love at first sight bullshit.
This is the story of one of the truest loves. Robin and his Maid. In Kingdom of course nothing is has we on Earth believe but the truth is so much better than our fiction. Marie Hall tells a tale that keeps you riveted. I recommend this book and all of her books to any who love to read.
This book was AMAZING! I truly loved following Nixie's journey from being taken from her parents and the only life she ever knew to finding her true love. This was an exciting adventure with unexpected twists and turns all along the way. An excellent addition to my collection!
We are treated to a very different telling of Robin Hood in this story. The addition of a genie brought a whole new dimension that was fun. The stories just continue to hold your attention and leave us eager for the next.
Robin Hood and a Genie?? An odd mix. Interesting twist on Robin Hood's story, which I liked. I liked the characters, Robin and Nixie/Marian. I always like the Kingdom books. This one was a little 'meh' for me compared to my other favorites, but still a quick, fun read.
Love this take on the Robin Hood story. And it even sets us up for future tales, such as Baba Yaga and the Snow Queen. I only wish the source of Robin ' s and Crispin ' s powers had been revealed. Which parent had been magical and why?
Years ago, on a very much needed twisted fairy tale adult steamy romance binge, I found this little treasure of a series. Love coming to Marie Hall when I need a little kick. A great energy and twists that you don't expect but still enjoy.
