I'm not usually a fan of short stories as they tend to be disconnected. The idea of the FIND'M hook-up app as a common theme is a good one and helps the book to read more like chapters in a novella. There's no doubt the author can tell a story. I thought the strongest stories were those where the horror was more psychological than physical. The excellent last story, 'Looking?', is a good example of that. The sexually exhausting Cyrus of 'Insatiable' is enough to put one off using Grindr for life. My main criticism is one of editing. The writing just needs a tad more attention to sentence construction, punctuation and dealing with internal dialogue. Overall, an impressive start. Great cover, too.
Are you lonesome tonight? Never fear, the trusty dating app FIND’M is right there at your fingertips, promising a night of no strings attached fun with a handsome stranger. Beware though, the price for the anonymity that comes with the ease of hooking up with the online app could very well be your life.
This collection of dark stories will make you stop, think and proceed with caution before using any type of dating app again! These twelve original and horrifying stories are equal parts intriguing and frightening while remaining cohesive to the overall feel of the dark side of the online dating world. The writing was extremely descriptive from the killer in the park tearing into his unsuspectingly willing victim’s flesh, to the torn lover that lures men to his home to feed his lovers insatiable appetite.
While each part is super short, Graves did a great job of setting the stage appropriately for each story individually and then tying them all together with the common thread, the FIND’M dating app. I caution reading any of these stories in the dark, or just before bed, or if you yourself use an online dating app. But I do recommend this book especially for fans of creepy, suspenseful, horror stories.
I received a copy of this book from a first reads giveaway.
This was an interesting collection of horror stories. They are all linked through an online dating app called Find'm for gay men. The stories range from realistic to supernatural horror. It is a pretty relevant subject to use for the basis of the stories, considering how popular Apps and online dating are these days. The writing is tight and fast paced. All the stories are interesting and hold your interest until the end, where the surprise usually takes place. My favorite was the second story titled "First Time" which had a really cool Lovecraftian feel.
So overall this is a good book to pick up if you are looking for a fun, original collection of horror shorts.
First and foremost this was a fun read. I ended up reading the whole thing in one day.
I really loved the concept of the collection (monsters etc + grindr, what's not to love?), and the range of tones across it really seals the deal. While all the stories contain some sexual undertones due to the nature of the FIND'M as an app, there's a good mix of horror, erotica, suspense, and even some more tragic pieces.
Personally I liked "He's Closer," and "Another Headless Torso" the best. "He's Closer" had me on the edge of my seat, and "Another Headless Torso" was delightfully aware of the tropes of modern dating and played with that while also being scary.
I also found "First Time" very erotic but there may be something wrong with me...
Find'm is a such a fantastic concept and carried out so well. Twelve original stories, all intriguing and suspenseful, linked by the Find'm app. All the stories were easy to get into, different from each other so there's no repetition and a good mix throughout. The characters are engaging and the mounting tension and excitement just keep you reading. It's hard to pick a favourite though I think I would have to go with First Time just for the style and that particular twist.
