Well this historical romance was an enjoyable story. Love can be found in all shapes, sizes, race or nationality. I have to say I really enjoyed Owl. He's such a great person and easy to make part of your family but when the others see him falling for a white woman, things become complicated but not for everyone and the love of family can always be the strength anyone needs. Even though I've read this series out of order, each of their stories are still enjoyed but hopefully I'll get them read in order. LOL
I am really enjoying the Montana Mail Order Bride series by Linda Bridey. It is extremely difficult to find a "clean" western mail order bride book that is not Christian. However, Ms Bridey does this with ease. Her stories are enjoyable and not predictable. She is on my must read list.
Being a mail order bride answering mail from someone you don’t know is exciting but at the same time you never know if they are honest or someone you can trust. They pull you in with words, promise giving you someone you feel you know that is until you come face to face to find everything you have been told is a lie. Not much has changed over the years with internet but back long ago you didn’t have someone you could call to give a helping hand. Hannah finds out just how hard that is when she come face to face with the man she thought she would build a life with to find nothing he has said is true. Now in a land where she knows no one she turns to the sheriff for help, once she gets settled the first person she runs into is Owl the first Indian she has ever seen. Both are shocked with the way they feel but as they get closer and their feeling grow turmoil takes over with ill feelings from the man she came to marry and the town. There is danger, excitement, passion but you laugh and smile as well as frown with life is left in the towns hands.
This is a fun, cute read that brought me hours of entertainment and joy. I laughed and at times could really feel the characters pain. It is a clean read but filled with passion, learning and growing as two people and a town learns what true love is all about. Owl being Indian has so much against him already with danger near his emotions take over putting him on the wrong side of the town’s people. It tears families in two and brothers against brothers. This was well written with powerful emotions between Indians and whites. The twists and turns are exciting and a little surprising. I truly enjoyed this as much as I have all this series. I can’t wait to start the next book in this series.
The narrator does a wonderful job delivering true emotions to the story, you always know who is talking and just what that are feeling. There are no repeating of words, no background noise just a truly enjoyable listen that pulls you in. His normal voice is very pleasant as well as his character voices, his voice is easy to listen to and gave me many hours of enjoyment. He made me feel the pain and sorrow each character is going through as well as the excitement and danger that comes with this story. With his narration he made me understand why some people act the way they do and that not everything is as it seems. For me he bought this story to life making it easy to picture each scene as it was happening. His performance was top of the line pulling me in giving me a listen I couldn’t put down. If you haven’t listened to any of his audios you don’t know what you are missing.
I listened to this book on Audible at an increased speed for my own preference. Another great book in this mail order bride series. I’m sure it happened more often than is talked about — that one or the other of the parties completely lies about themselves! Glad this one had a “backup” — although if there is anything unbelievable to me in this series, it is how intertwined the Lakota Indians are with this town. I’m sure it happened, but sometimes I just feel that it’s a little to convenient in the story and I just don’t feel it would have been that acceptable to either culture during this time. Already started book 8...
I hate it when I have to write a negative review about a book, especially one who I have respect for as a writer. This book strayed so far from reality as to be totally unrecognizable. It might has well have been science fiction and written as being in another universe. I am part Cherokee, and my stepfather was 100% Sioux. The Lakota are Sioux. This story might possibly have some elements of truth if written about a Lakota today, but not if that Lakota has been raised in the Lakota tradition.
I have never seen an adult male Indian of any tribe cry in front of another male and especially not in front of any female, regardless of relationship or age.
Hannah was a real treat to meet. Since I am a nurse also, I really enjoyed getting to see more of life for a nurse in this era and watch her character develop as the situation changed. The twists and turns in the plot kept me guessing as to how things were going to turn out for her, and if she would find true love or not. I have enjoyed all the books by Linda Bridey that I have read to date! Keep them coming please!
This is a series that needs to be read in order. Each book had background things going on and you wont know about the characters if you dont read them. Owl is an Indian. Brother to Marcus. He was injured and is recovering. He had to stay behind on the winter hike to heal. Hannah is a nurse that orderes a mail order bride add to a man that wasn't truthful. They meet on say on main street where Owl saves her from falling in the mud.
Wow! This was an exciting and interesting book! I loved watching the two cultures mix. Owl and Hannah were so beautiful together. I was on pins and needles wondering what was going to happen there for awhile. Definitely a page turner. Loved it!
This one might be my favorite. I just loved the storyline and all the action as well as a town coming together for a show of support for someone different. Truly a great story.
I enjoyed this story, the author has done a great job of putting a woman in a place where she is left to fend for herself as a lied to mail order bride.
This is my first "clean" romance and I didn't dislike it for that fact. I've read other books that do a similar 'cut of smut' but still leaves in the romance aspect. So it didn't bother me.
I'm not honestly sure how much of my dislike was due to the writing or due to the audio narrator. If I feel up to it, I may try this author again but not in audio. The audio narrator tried to do what I guess was supposed to be a halting, Native American "voice". In effect, this sounded like William Shatner plays a Native American. It was awful and drove me nuts.
I kept listening because I wanted to know what happened, which is why it gets 2 stars instead of 1. Overall I thought it was an interesting story with interesting characters, if extremely slow paced. The slow pace was probably contributed to by the excessive use of mundane detail.
Hannah finds herself stranded in Dawson after answering an advert for a Mail Order Bride because her intended husband had lied and gotten her there under false pretenses. She meets up with Owl, the first Indian man she has seen and her life changes and so does his. There are a few incidents of racial tension and injustice but these are very cleverly handled by the author. Both Hannah and Owl are strong characters who know what they want and go after it. I loved his proposal. It was just so clever and so romantic. As usual, Linda Bridey brings out the family support factor and this gives real strength to her story. J. Scott Bennett does justice to Ms. Bridey's most enjoyable tale with his excellent narration. Reading or listening to this series is like coming home. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author in exchange for an unbiased review.
The Montana Mail Order Brides books are enjoyable stories that are each complete without the feeling of being rushed through and entwine the characters into the other books within the series. As most romance books each couple has their ups and downs, inner battles, heartaches, happy times and end in a happy ending. It combines different cultures and the hardships and struggles that goes along with it. I found this to be a great mix in the story and was well done. Once I finish one book I quickly buy the next book as I want to see what will happen to another character. I recommend to read the book and series to anyone that likes romance.
Linda Bridey has done it again...Great characters and good action. A white woman and a Lokta indian form a romantic relationship that is tested by their differences in cultures and skin color. A major incident puts the relationship in jeopardy. Bridey illustrates the differences in culture very well. Prejudice is a timeless theme and Bridey does her best to show that we all can work together regardless of customs and colors.
Note: This book is number 7 in the series and is more enjoyable if you read the others.
