--Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos

I enjoyed it and plan to read the other books. There are 17 in this series, but they are all pretty short and seem to end on cliffhangers. The first two books are free but the next is 3.99.
In this book we see Thor vindicated, as the dying king proclaims his innocense. After the kings death Gwen is passed over for Garth (the evil brother) to rule, and Thor and Gwen finally resolve their misunderstanding and declare their love for each other.
The book leaves off with Thor and the Legion heading out into enemy territory for thier Hundred days of training. They are currently on a boat in open sea. They've just been attacked by the enemy and were victorious, but not for long as an enemy fleet closes in behind. Now the Legion is going through the rain wall and we are left to wondering if they make it through.
Edrec, has set out to find a bride and was instantly taken with a servant girl. We still don't know if he will win her in the jousting toutnament.
Gareth is doing spledidly well in ruining all his father had done to keep the peace in the kingdom. He is arrogant, and greedy. He was last seen deciding that he will try to weild the Destiny Sword. We don't know yet if he was able to.
Romance peeps: Gwen was very angry when she heard rumors of Thor going to a brothel and bedding women. She pushes him away and says some mean things to him. Reese finally sets the record straight and tells her he did not bed any woman and that was a lie spread by Alton who wants Gwen for himself. She reconciles with Thor and he forgives. There are some sweet romantic scenes with Thor and Gwen..kisses only. Ederc is 25 and his past with women is unknown. We only know that he never paid much attention to women as fighting was his main focus. He is instantly in love with a serving girl at a feast and only knows he must have her. We know nothing yet about the serving girl.
Book one was only worthy of a single star (actually none but there's no option for that). I figured that maybe the author would have learned a few things and improved her writing for this one. While the style of writing did show an improvement in flow and description, it wasn't enough to overcome the careless mistakes that proofreading and editing should have caught. The magical Destiny Sword of the first book somehow became the Dynasty Sword in this one. The rival kingdom started out as the McLeods in book 1, then became the McClouds, then the McCleods, then back to McCloud. Really? You can't keep your names straight? Thor is told he's leaving for the Hundred 'in the morning' then later says he doesn't know when but he's told it will be in 'the next day or two', but later it's back to being the next morning. A simple wall chart might help the author organize her thoughts better. I won't even start with plot points that make no sense nor with this author's habit of ending books right in the middle of action. There's nothing wrong with a cliffhanger ending to entice the reader to continue a series, but it's just plain wrong not to tie up anything!!! Luckily both of these books were free which is the only reason I bothered with them. I won't be reading any more.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Formato: Audiolibro. 2 libros terminados. Solo faltan 15 para acabar la saga... ¡Nuevo reto desbloqueado!
I noticed some glaring errors in this book,(One where they were talking about one brother and used the other brother's name in the next sentence- Maybe because both of them start with G--I am surprised an editor didn't catch this) but I still liked the story. It is simplistic and somewhat like the Arthurian stories, but I have enjoyed it. I like Thor, I do think he is a little too clueless about things but considering his upbringing-being a sheep herder and not really being around girls, etc, then maybe it is understandable. It is an uncomplicated story, one which might be fun to read.
I’m over Morgan Rice. I mistakenly bought the third in this “Bestselling Series,” on audible, thus learning two things: 1) a lot of people know nothing, and 2) always check that a book you’re buying is the first, and if it isn’t don’t buy any more!
The first book was horribly written, and I spent my review discussing the poor characterization and overuse of key phrases, “He could hardly believe...”
This book, I began to actively hate how she writes out Thor’s thought process, or lack thereof, as here “he can’t imagine,” or “doesn’t want to seem...” or some such where she basically displays him to be overthinking everything, but coming to few conclusions and not usually doing anything productive, except by pure instinct and happenstance, because “he possesses a great power he doesn’t yet understand” - which is a bullshit premise from the beginning.
Then there are the internal and external inconsistencies. On the former, the Empire controls everything but the Ring, yet the Ring sends troops every year to another land?
A few of the latter are waste dumps in the same room as the prep kitchen. Sure Medieval times were gross, but nobody has a chamber pot in their kitchen. Also, ships big enough to carry 50 (more) giants (than one carrying hundreds of men) that have masts only connected by a single rope - a rope that is at the same time thin enough to be severed by a single, thrown spear - holding masts that are big enough that when brought down in such a manner, sink the entire ship. It’s not merely improbable, it’s impossible, and your story becomes dumb. Expend a little effort, do a little research, and write something plausible.
The one redeeming quality of this book is that it was short.

When you thought that the story could not get better, the author delivers an amazing sequence that will keep you entertained and wishing for more! In this second episode, our hero Thor escape from the dungeons where he was held captive under the charge of attempting to assassinate the king. But the king suffered another assassination attempt when Thor was captive and this time he is dying on his bed and Thor is proclaimed innocent by the king himself. But his adventures have just began for a second time. He needs to conquer again the heart of Gwendolyn while he continues with his training to become a member of the Silver, the elite guard of the palace. His time is short, as all the soldiers and trainees are about to leave to The Hundred, a period of hundred days of training that is done in a far away island under some challenging environment. While Thor continues his preparation to leave, the new king is crowned and some other threatens appears to disturb what was once a calm period for the kingdom. I recommend this book to the permanent library of all readers who love a well written story with a fascinating plot, that will keep you entertained for hours.
Don't read this authors books if typos in published books bother you... there are quite a few. I don't know why I read through the fourth book in this series. I should have spent my time and money on an author that cares more about polishing his work for his readers than churning another 150 pages out.
It's a decent story but very long winded and plot lines are setup which I don't think will be realized for another 4 books.
Wow, Morgan Rice sure can write and tell a good story.
This whole series "The Sorcerer's Ring" is one of the best fantasy/fiction series I have ever read. And if you like Magic, Romance, friendship and fighting through adversity you have found a great series. I would even say that "The Sorcerer's Ring" series makes Harry Potters books seem dull and slow. I am a fantasy book fanatic and it is the main type of book series I stick with. I don't write many reviews, but Morgan Rice's "The Sorcerer's Ring" series has made me want to write reviews.
The character Thor and the other characters draw you into their situations and events. There is struggle, battle, justice, love, life, caring, magic and so much more In the whole book series.
I could go on but I don't want to give away the books story and events.
If you read books then buy the series and Morgan Rice's other book, you will love them as much as I do. The books are a mush for any Fantasy reader and even for those who want some romance and some action.
The best book, author and series ever. Get the books and enjoy.
I'm not reading anymore reviews on this series. After I wrote a fantastic review of the first book, I read the second one and loved it just as much. I plan on continuing. Everyone is saying its too "simple", "cookie cutter" etc but I personally love this series. I've read countless fantasy books and series which is my favorite genre and I think Morgan Rice nailed it. There's authors like Tolkien and Jordan who make series more complex which are great. But some that are simple are just as magical. My opinion is try it before you read all those 1 ★s. She has kept me entertained and can't turn the pages fast enough to see what happens.
Long on plot, short on character development and number of words. Good enough for now, but not sure I'll have the fortitude or cash to finish the series.
I liked the first book, but, unfortunately, this one fell flat for me. My biggest complaint? Grammar. There were so many colons and semicolons. They stopped my rhythm far too often. I didn't particularly enjoy the cliffhanger ending either. I could definitely see the innocence trying to be preserved for the love story, but it was almost as if the author was trying too hard. Still, if you can get past the grammar, you may like it.
For my clean readers: Includes mild violence, murder, kissing and war themes.

I did enjoy this book, it is a nice easy book to listen to while driving to work. And I am interested in where the story will go from here
However...
My issue is that the series consists of 17 books. If I am to buy them all (preferably on audio) it is going to cost a fair bit. And I don't feel the series is good enough to warrant spending that amount of money...
So for now I am going to take a break, and if I find myself still thinking of how the story will progress I might pick it back up :)
2nd instalment of the Sorcerer's Ring. Developing the plot lines after the murder on King MacGil. Thor and Gwendolin are separated, due to Thor's training mission as a future Legion warrior. The new king wants to get rid of some family members. His enemies the McClouds raid the first villages in his kingdom. Another murder is committed with the murder weapon, that kill King MacGil.

+ A very nice, relaxing book + Very well narrated + We are going to the dragons! - Mysogyn, weak women - a very short in between book - No dragons (YET!!)
Amazing. Thor comes to learn his magic powers and king of the ring dies for someone stabbing him. Thor get the thrown into the dungeon but he did not do it and they are trying to find who did. I liked that he never gives up and its just so interesting.
The writing in these novels is bad in many ways, but I can't help but be drawn in to the story and the characters' lives, all the same. I just laugh when parts are poorly written or redundant, and carry on listening. The audiobooks are pretty good, as long as they're sped up; the reading pace is way too slow at 100%. I find that 120% is just right. The narrator does a good job of various voices and accents.
I'm trying to separate the quality of writing from the story being told, but sometimes the poor writing strains the story. One such example is how Thor constantly finds himself in situations where a little magic would help tremendously, yet the author creates a physical fight scene in which Thor should ultimately lose, until finally the magic wells up and spills out of him. Why does he not ever instantly think of magic, and try to call it up? It's incredibly unbelievable that he would be caught off guard and surprised by it appearing, after the first or second time that it happened. It's hard to get through those scenes.
I like what's happening with some of the characters, especially Godfrey and Gwen, as related to their father's death and their subsequent character growth. Kendrick and Reece are excellent people from the start, noble and compassionate, and they continue being enjoyable and likable. Gareth is a despicable person, of course, as is McCloud, and they're prime examples of how interesting it can be to read stories from the perspective of the bad guy. I love seeing inside their heads and following their perspectives in some of their scenes. I'm so glad their POVs are included.
These books are really hard to rate and review, because I honestly think of so many aspects to pick apart and scorn while I also am fully invested in the characters' stories and the world they're in. The overall story is quite compelling, but could be much more so if edited a lot better and rewritten a bit. My opinion teeters in the middle of good and bad, and I've settled on 3 stars.
Completely unimpressed. I had a promotion to get books 1-3 as a bundle so this review is for all three. I don't know where one began and one ended.
Problem 1 - Morgan Rice is not a good writer. At one point, she's describing a character's since of purpose in a dream sequence and out of 6 sentences, 3 said the same thing "this is where he was supposed to be." Amazingly, the first and second sentence were nearly identical with only 2-3 words differing. It's like her publisher said, "We need another 1000 words" and instead of adding to the plot, she just decided to add repetitive sentences throughout the existing story. Also, she occasionally uses words she thinks she knows what mean, but she really doesn't.
Problem 2 - She has a primary character that is obviously intended to be a strong female character, but she undermines that strength constantly. Every time she acts or speaks with authority, she feels "the power of her father" rising up in her. So really, she's not strong, she's just channeling her dead dad. Also, her world is still horribly sexist and treats women as property and prizes.
Problem 3 - Inconsistency. She has a dragon that is large enough its footprints leave "canyons" that are "hundreds of feet deep," but its claws are only as big as trees. She did not indicate ancient redwoods so I'm assuming she intended an typical, large tree. So really its claws are super tiny finger nails? And say they are the size of trees - when a human gets swiped by something that much bigger than him, he doesn't get shred to ribbons. At the right angle he might be cut in half, but not shred. Also, the dragon's legs are only as big as 50 men. 50 six foot men would be only 150 feet tall laid end to end. But the footprints are hundreds of feet deep? This animal also lives on a island. The characters traverse this island for half a day without seeing it. A creature that leaves canyons in the earth when it walks. Really? The "island" would have to be more like a continent.
Problem 4 - Just not interesting. Rice wants to be a little George R. R. Martin and have an epic series with a dozens of characters with interweaving plot threads. However, much of it seems completely unconnected, only one or two of the characters is even remotely interesting or written with any depth, and there is no sense of an overarching plot. Remember - I read THREE books in the series and only at the very end of the third book is there any hint of a greater epic plot to accompany this hodge podge of mostly boring stories played out by fairly boring characters.
Needless to say, I'll not be picking up another book by this writer and do not recommend them. Each book could be cut in half by a half-way decent editor (and should be). And Rice should have more respect for her readers. You don't have to beat anyone over the head with the same point fifteen times. Once on a page and maybe a reminder or two later in the story sure, but not literally an entire page of "Oh I love him and I hope we can be together."
Buku kedua dari siri novel The Sorcerer's Ring, bergenre fantasi (sword and Sorcery). Buku kali ni mcm bosan sikit, mungkin sebab plot2 romantik yg lemau.
