Haunted by the boy who ghosted him, will their high-school reunion be Jake’s chance to say goodbye to the fiery redhead he loved so fiercely, or can they write a new story?

Jake

Being a military brat meant we moved around a lot. By some miracle, we stayed in one place for all of high school, meaning that I had four whole years with Cooper. Four years of friendship, falling in love, fumbling firsts, and making plans for our future.

But then Cooper disappeared. MySpace Top-Eight one day and a ghost town the next. I may have moved on, but a small part of me remained with him at Gomillion High.

Our twenty-year reunion feels like the last chance I’ll have to see Cooper Dalton, whether for closure or to see if our bond is magical enough to make even the non-existent real.

Cooper

I didn’t mean to ghost Jake, but one family tragedy after another left me unable to spend another minute in the place where we met, fell in love, and looked forward to growing up together.

While I’ve achieved my dream of becoming a vet, opening a practice of my own, and finding the friends who’ve become my family, I still ache for the boy whose heart I broke along with my own.

Returning to Gomillion fifteen years after last setting foot in it, and laying eyes on my first love has me tripping—literally. Will Jake forgive me, or is the magic truly gone?

The Gomillion High Reunion series is a multi-author collaboration celebrating the 20th reunion of former classmates in a charming small town. From fake dating and long-held rivalries to first loves and second chances, anything can happen when the past and present collide. Don’t miss the reunion—RSVP today!

This was such a heartwarming second-chance romance. Jake and Cooper’s journey felt both nostalgic and fresh, reminding me why I love this trope so much.

Jake, the perpetual military brat, finally found something lasting when his dad’s assignment brought him to Gomillion—his first best friend, his first boyfriend, his first everything. Their connection was so genuine that when life pulled them apart, I could feel the weight of that loss.

Fast forward twenty years, and the reunion setup was absolutely perfect. The coffee shop scene (with Cooper literally tripping in front of Jake) had me grinning—it was awkward, funny, and the sweetest way to break the ice. From there, I loved how their friendship flowed so naturally into something deeper. The chemistry was undeniable, but what really stood out was the emotional bond they’d never truly lost.

This story checked all my boxes for a second-chance romance: heartfelt characters, rekindled feelings, and the kind of love that lingers long after the last page. A charming, feel-good read that left me smiling.

This is a sweet story about two best friends who became highschool sweethearts - they were inseparable - only to be estranged after their graduation for the next 20 years.

Life got in the way - sometimes things happen which are not in our control. They where deeply in love back then and they could never really forget each other.

At their Highschool reunion their minds and bodies find each other again quickly and it feels like they have never been apart at all.

They spend all their time together - being silly again like teenagers, exploring their old hometown, hiking to their make out spot, go on a breakfast date, dance, laugh, kiss and end up in Cooper‘s hotel room more than once over the weekend.

Cooper likes to be praised and is always such a good boy to fulfill this desire. He also is very blunt and speaks out (oh he has a filthy mouth) what he craves - and Jake delivers goood!!!

Join them at their reunion with some hot bedroom scenes, some good old dirty talk, a lot of 🌶️ and one sappy love… cause Cooper & Jake are pure sweetness …

And of course you can look forward to see their beautiful HEA.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much for the ARC -

Super cute!!! First loves and second chances make my heart so happy. This book had that and more. Cooper and Jake started out as best friends in high school that turned to lovers. Their instant connection upon reuniting was incredible. They are sweet and funny and they compliment each other so well. This is the second book I’ve read from this shared world and I love how it is growing. I can’t wait for the rest of the books.

I received this book as an ARC and these are my honest opinions.

Cute but felt repetitive at points. I like Cooper & Jake and they were super cute together but I felt a lack of character development at points too. I just wasn’t invested.

A sweet and spicy meant to be reunion

This book was full of sweet spicy meant to be reunion fun. Jake and Cooper were inseparable all through high school. They were smitten from their first meeting but became best friends until they became so much more. After graduation, Jake goes away to school and Cooper is supposed to be right behind him but after one too many family tragedies Cooper had too much to focus on and ultimately ghosted Jake. Now it's been 20 years and they both find themselves at their 20-year reunion back in Gomillion secretly hoping to see the other with the help of their friends who do everything they can to bring them together and at least get them to talk so they can do the rest. As crazy as it seems after 20 years apart it's like no time has passed at all. Jake was hurt Cooper never reached out and he wishes he'd tried harder to reach out himself especially when he finds out everything Cooper had to go through alone. Both aren't ready to go back home and head their separate ways so they stay behind a bit longer to get to know each other more and decide what their next steps are going to be given they don't want to lose each other again. This was a low angst sweet love story with some delicious spice to kick it up a notch. I loved these two as well as their best friends and am so happy I got to be with them all the way until their happy ending that was always meant to be.

Such a cute story a very paced book tho but still has a great plot. I love second chance romance and seeing Cooper & Jake get there was so cute (thank you Taylor & Peyton lol) but I’m glad these two got there HEA. Everything by this author is always a good time and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next!

I was really looking forward to this story, and you can probably tell by my rating that I was not disappointed 💛
Love me some second chances! And the tropes is up my ally!

I really enjoyed the writing style, and I connected with the characters from the start. I just love their chemistry as well, and how they easily fell back into “knowing” each other again after all this time apart. It’s clear that they are meant to be.

No drama for the cause of drama, easy and breezy storyline with some pining and hotness 🔥 Love me some dirty talk and a “good boy”

1st person, present tense, dual PoV
Jacob Ward (38), co-owner of a bar in Cedar Creek, TX
Cooper Dalton (38), veterinarian/owner of a vet clinic in CT

I enjoy the author's writing but I dislike second chance romance as a rule (there are few exceptions) and I simply couldn't buy into the set-up. That they simply drifted apart so quickly after Jake moved away after high school without any significant falling out or real attempt to reconnect made it difficult to believe that they were all that deeply attached or invested in the first place.

This book was fine; a quick, easy read, I was just not the intended target for the story so I didn't find it as engaging as I had hoped it would be. I also struggled with keeping the characters straight, constantly checking the PoV. There were a ton of supporting characters, not sure which if any will get their own books, but they were also difficult to keep track of. The MCs respective besties, Peyton and Taylor, were OTT characters and I enjoyed their wingmanning throughout almost more than watching Jake and Cooper get reacquainted.

After a few fumbles once they are reunited they basically pick up from where they left off twenty years prior and let the sexy times roll. I don't mind spice, I quite enjoy it, but that's all these two seemed to have and I needed something more to show how perfect they were for each other.

I'm not sure if this whole series is being billed as no/low-angst, but this needed a little something to show that the characters were going to flight for the relationship this time around. By removing the angst the emotion was also felt siphoned out. I was expecting a lot more at Cooper's reveal about why he ghosted Jake, but it was pretty muted, so while I thought the story was cute and their chemistry was hot, something was missing.

That epilogue was cute as heck though, I loved it a lot.

I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

Cooper and Jake is a book by Ashley Rayne set in the Gomillion High multi-author series. It’s a quick read. Set at a high school reunion, this second chance romance was super sweet with lots of spice.

Jake and Cooper were high school besties and boyfriends. But when school ended, Cooper vanished, and Jake has always wondered what happened. Now, it’s 20 years later, and their reunion is taking place. Cooper needs to explain why he disappeared, and Jake wants nothing more than to reconnect.

The story is pretty short, focused mainly on the reunion itself and what the two do during that time. There are references to high school and after, but these are more explanations as to where they are in life now. The book is no angst, which I appreciated. Not all second chance books need to drag your emotions through the dirt, ya know? In fact, once they reconnect, it’s full steam ahead…emphasis on ‘steam’ because Cooper knows how he wants it and isn’t afraid to speak up. There isn’t a lot of discussion about his preferences and if those were there in high school too. I assume there was some familiarity based on how quickly Jake was on board with everything and knew what he liked to hear.

Overall, the book was very sweet with a bit of heat. I thought the epilogue really tied everything together.

Arc Review

Jacob Ward has been invited to his high school reunion. Twenty years has passed since he graduated and left town, and his boyfriend behind. He promised to keep in touch with him, but with life happening, they became estranged.
Now back at Gomillion high with his best friend Preston in tow, he is hoping to bump into Cooper, and when he sees him, all the feelings come back.

Cooper Dalton meets the love of his life again by falling flat on his butt. Totally mortified, he wants to run. He was hoping to reconnect with Jake but not in this way. Taylor, his best friend sees the love in Cooper’s eyes when he sees Jake. She vows to get them back together.

With the help of Preston, Taylor works together to get their two best friends back in each others lives, permanently this time.
After twenty four hours back in each others arms at the reunion, they both realise they want forever. But with Jake living in Texas and Cooper in Connecticut, can they make distance work?

This is Ashley Rayne’s offering to the multi author series ‘Gomillion High Reunion’.
This gorgeous, low angst, second chance story is so well written and flows effortlessly. It was the big warm hug I needed.
With all Ashley’s books, it is spicy but gives you all the feels.
I will read more from this series.

First book by this author I have read. A short, quick read that was fine. Not great, but fine.

A second chance love story when high school loves meet up again at their 20 year high school reunion. I did love and appreciate that there seemed to be no outward aggression or homophobia toward them when they were in high school. There wasn't a lot about their high school years, but if they were traumatized I am sure it would have been mentioned. In fact, it seemed that they were well liked and most of the students expected them to still be together.

We also got to meet Cooper's best friend and Jake's best friend. Not for nothing, but Jake's bestie was annoying. And if I was Cooper I would have called him out for that nickname immediately.

For a short book, once they reconnected- there was a lot of sex. And slightly kinky sex. Which I am not kink shaming at all, but Cooper (slightly submissive) jumped right in with the kink and Jake, who seemingly had no experience with it, was also all in.

It all wrapped up rather neatly and quickly. Expected because it was a short book. The epilogue was really my favorite part.

“You’ve fallen for me?” “To be honest, I don’t think I ever fell out of love with you. There’s always been a Cooper-shaped hole in my heart that only you’ve been able to fill.”

Cooper & Jake by Ashley Rayne is part of the multi author series Gomillion High Reunion. It’s a sweet read. It has both the nostalgia of first love and the excitement of second chances.

Cooper and Jake formed a special bond as teens, when they were their firsts in a lot of things, which made their reunion even more meaningful after years apart. Cooper remembers how Jake was his safe place during a time when everything else in life felt uncertain. Their friendship turned into first love, and it was the kind of connection that left a mark even decades later.

“Cooper and I were inseparable for the four years I was there. I met him on my first day at the school when I got lost trying to find my classes. I had bumped into the short kid with this fiery red hair and freckles covering his face. He gave me a huge beaming smile, and I was smitten right away.”

When they see each other again at the reunion after twenty years, it was like no time had passed at all. For Jake, no relationship he had since ever felt as real or as easy as what he shared with Cooper. It’s clear that time apart didn’t weaken their bond, it just made the reunion that much powerful.

“We were teens when we were together. We didn’t even know what it was like to experience life. And yet, he’s crossed my mind throughout the years. Far more times than he should have, if I’m being honest.”

As we are told in this book, love doesn’t always follow a straight line. Sometimes life pulls people apart, but if it’s meant to be, the connection can survive distance and time.

This was a heartwarming, feel-good romance that made me realize how sometimes there’s that one person who’s always been there for us. Maybe the timing isn’t right now, but deep down, they’re the one with whom we’d like to have a second chance.

I’m sure going to read more from this series.

I received an eARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

TLDR;
* a novella.
* Second chance romance.
* no third act breakup
* some smeggy times with bondage
* love the founding family of peyton and taylor.
* 3.0 stars

A novella, short read. I love the no third act breakup of this story and the smeggy bondage times, and not enough praise could be given for how much I love the friendship between Peyton and Taylor.

However, it's hard to fall in love with the MCs when the story is so short, (but obviously I have no such standards for found family. They are like pitch hitters, come in for a good time and leave, but for mains, I'm like you better entertain, you make me love you!)
It's just harder to believe that two people who were into each other as kids for four years, and disappeared to be their own person, could come back 20 years later and reconnect in that way, but perhaps it's about the smeggy times because that is the key to any lasting relationship. Because Coop and Jake had chemistry there, so maybe it is believable.

Ok, so in writing this review, I moved my rating up a bit from 2.5 to 3. I am now convinced their reconnection is in the sheets and that's all that matters

I was loving this book another book by Ashley that grabbed my attention. I am not new to her books i have read every books she has written. None of her books have fallen on their ass. Well Cooper fell but hey he was just peachy🤣 I was counting down the moments where Coop and Jake would hook up. I was literally hooting and hollering like finally these guys gave in. I have to say edging was a surprise to me when i first read about it in her books before and now it is written so perfectly i have to say thats my favorite trope in her books. I love how they cant stop with each other like they have to touch each other(yes in a sexual way) they yearn for that touch in each other. The spice between Coop and Jake is alot but i love it between these two. The part that got me squealing was when they said the infamous L word. "Love" I felt their connection like every character before that she has written. If you like spice and M/M romances then give this a shot. I am never disappointed by a book of Ashley's.

This is a story about Jake and Cooper, former high school sweethearts who are unexpectedly reunited at their twenty-year high school reunion after Cooper abruptly "ghosted" Jake without a word. Jake, who was heartbroken when Cooper vanished the day after graduation, believes the reunion is his final chance to get closure on the love they shared. Despite moving on, he feels a part of him is still tied to Cooper. Cooper didn't mean to ghost Jake, but a series of family tragedies forced him to leave town suddenly. Now a successful vet, he still aches with guilt over breaking Jake's heart. Returning to town, he is desperate to know if Jake can forgive him and if the "magic" they once shared is still alive.

I loved this second-chance romance focused on forgiveness and whether they can finally build the future they once planned. I also enjoyed the two best friends who played a part in getting them back together. Sadly there wasn't much interaction between them and the other people at the school reunion. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM book with mature content.

My Second Gomillion Romance

I’d read Brad and Finn’s story first in this Gomillion Reunion Series and can’t recall if it was in sequence. I enjoyed that one. Cooper and Jake’s book is equally enjoyable. However, they were so alike, both pairs of Mc’s in each book are hoping to catch up with someone they were in love with in High School. Both of them having the same friend Set up accompanying them to the reunion, the best friend feisty girl, and the other bringing their best friend, male business partner. The similarities don’t stop there.

There wasn’t enough character difference or depth between these two in particular. I had to keep checking back to see whose POV I was reading.

This k e was a bit different in that it had a touch of Dom and Sub vibe between them.

So not my favourite, but I’ll continue with the series and hope for some more variety in future reads.

Short and sweet read. I knew there was basically no angst going in and this would be smooth sailing and my star rating reflects this. I was expecting it so I took it out of the equation.

This was a great quick read that made me smile. Loved the characters. We get a bit of back story with them in high school and it’s evident that even though their paths diverged the other was never far from their mind.

High school reunion gives the opportunity for them to reconnect and the rest is history. They are both adorable in their hesitancy. Both want to spend more time together but they are in their heads about it. Good thing they brought their besties with them to team up and play matchmaker.

Peyton and Taylor were great side characters and were almost as part of the plot as Cooper and Jake. They were funny and their shenanigans helped to bring Cooper and Jake together. My only beef with Peyton was the nickname he gave Cooper. “Little Dude” just grated on me for some reason. But that is a me thing and I don’t like to detract too much for something that little that is my own bugaboo.

I thought the spice was great. Loved the subtle dom/sub vibes we get with Jake and Cooper.

The epilogue was amazing. Loved it. This is a great feel good read to pass an afternoon with.

Love second chance romance! It’s one of my absolute favorite tropes.

Jake and Cooper might have lost touch for 20 years but their love for each other never faded. It was the kind of love that time couldn’t make go away.

Them being away from each other and living their own lives only emphasized how much they were meant to be. They had everything they wanted except each other. Time only made their feelings stronger.

Real love never dies no matter how many years pass by. And Jake and Cooper are proof of that.

Thank God for meddling friends who gave them the push they needed to go to their high school reunion. If they hadn’t, Jake and Cooper would have missed out on being together again.

I received this ARC for my honest opinion. Cooper & Jake by Ashley Rayne was a cute, fun and amazing second chance read. Cooper and Jake’s story really starts when they are inseparable in high school and madly in love with each other. They graduate and life has other plans for them. They spent the last 20 years apart and reunited at their high school reunion. They have to relearn who the other person is and get closure from 20 years ago. This was such a fast read for me. I was not able to put the book down. I thoroughly enjoyed their story and could feel what they felt at parts of it. I highly recommend reading.

This is a short story or “novella.” The story overall isn’t bad, I actually love Ashley Rayne books.
This one just didn’t completely hit the mark for me. They were best friends and together for 4 years and then Cooper ghosts Jake for 20 years. So that made it hard for me to believe the reunion they had. First love is often never forgotten buuuut after being ghosted for 20 years?
The spice was really good, and the story ended nicely for it to be a novella. The side characters were amazing, I do find it refreshing when there’s no jealous ex lurking around, or that one kid who picked on others all the time.

Thank you, Ashley, for my copy of Cooper & Jake. This is part of the multi author series Gomillion High Reunion. This was the one who got away, and when they reconnected, it was awkward then 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I was rooting for Cooper & Jake to find their HEA. Their Besties Taylor & Peyton, who came to their High School Reunion as wingmen, were fire. Peyton needs his story and his HEA ASAP.

Sweet , heartbreaking, heartfelt and just the most wonderfully written and emotionally charged love story I’ve read in such a long time. I absolutely adored both Cooper and Jake . Watching them get their second chance at love after not seeing each other for 20 years . The whole high school/ first love aspect . I honestly could not have a couple more . They just complimented each other so well . I really felt such a strong connection to both of them. Smiling and laughing with them . Crying and cheering for them to get their happy ending. This is a must read for everyone.

Cooper and Jake were BF's and boyfriends in high school. When they graduated, they lost touch as Jake moved and Cooper lost his folks but both moved on to successful lives, just alone. At their 20th high school reunion, time melts away and they recapture the magic. It's sweet and instant, touching and steamy, better and deeper than before. Great besties who push them together and no angst makes it a lovely second chance. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.

*ARC REVIEW* Loved this super cute, spicy second chance romance read!! Cooper & Jake are so sweet (and spicy in the bedroom). I love that they are older, having lost touch for 20 years after graduating high school. Both men know what they want and it doesn't take much for them to go after it all, which made for a great no angst read.
I'm also a sucker for a look into their future in an epilogue, and this one was perfect!!

This was a quick, easy read that I enjoyed but wish it has a little more depth to the characters.

Cooper and Jake are returning to their 20th high school reunion and they haven't talked in the years after leaving high school. Once best friends turned boyfriends, how will they react when seeing each other again after so many years.

This book had lots of spice, which I don't mind. I just wish it had a little more outside of that.
