Quit Me If You Can by Jolie Day

Quit Me If You Can is a delicious, funny, hot and feel good book to read. I absolutely loved the interaction between Kennedy and Cade. Their banter, way of flirting and connection made me fly through the book and finish it almost in one go.
The book starts with Kennedy job hunting. She wanted to be a lawyer but due to family emergencies she was never able to chase that dream. Kennedy is now a fierce paralegal who is trying to secure a job at a reputable firm. Her previous boss was touchy feely and she just had to get away.
Her interview goes well until she has to talk to one of the top lawyers. That lawyer is Cade, the man she fiercely loved 10 years ago and brutally left her out of the blue. Never to be seen and heard of again.
And that is what kickstarts this amazing story. At first Cade doesn't acknowledge their past at all. And when once they do, the butterflies intensify and they are incapable of ignoring that powerful bond between them.
I LOVED Harper's, Kennedy's best friend, ideas to rile up Cade. She is such a funny, brash and bubbly friend to have in your corner. She brightened up every scene she was in. And I just love how nothing holds her back in life.
I must admit that I didn't completely understood the drama in the end. It felt a tiny bit over the top and out of character for Kennedy. But the book does have a sweet HEA and I loved the entire journey I went on with Cade and Kennedy.
4 huge stars for this amazing love story! If you love quick, funny and captivating love stories do give Jolie Day a chance. I really enjoy her fast paced and funny romance stories. ♥

It is hard for me to give a truly accurate review when I disliked both of the main characters. I felt the premise of this story was interesting, however I thought most of everything else was extremely far fetched.
Kennedy has stayed in some form of either love or just couldn’t move past Cade for a decade. She tried to come off as this badass but that’s a fail. I really don’t like the miscommunication trope, but if done well, it’s tolerable. These two take miscommunication to an entirely different level. It’s more like no communication instead of mis.
What high powered attorney just doesn’t show up for a billion dollar court case to screw his ex girlfriend? I mean you had waited a decade, why not wait a few more hours? It wasn’t swoony, it was pure stupid.
I can’t even get started on that juvenile bet between Harper and Kennedy. Are we 13 or are we professionals?
Then to totally walk out on “the lost love of a decade” after he tells you why he dumped you, yet forgive the other player in the game almost immediately? This made my eyes roll so hard, it felt like they exercised.

Quit me if you can is a steamy, second-chance, workplace romance about Kennedy and Cade. Kennedy is the daughter of a retired judge, and has taken a job as a paralegal at the law firm where Cade works. Cade is Kennedy's ex-boyfriend who broke up with her without giving her a reason. As they start to work together, they realize that it will be very difficult to keep a professional relationship as they clearly still have feelings for each other. The characters had good chemistry, but the spicy scenes were a bit strange/awkward when they incorporated courtroom lingo.

This book had potential, especially with Cade, who could have been serious book boyfriend material... but he took a nosedive pretty fast. I understood why he broke up with Kennedy, but waiting ten years to tell her? That’s just frustrating, not noble.
As for Kennedy, I liked her at first, but she completely lost her backbone as the story went on. I couldn’t believe she forgave her father so easily, yet held such a grudge against Cade—who, by the way, never even lied to her. Her dad lied to her every single day, and somehow Cade gets the harsher treatment? That just didn’t sit right with me.
And don’t even get me started on that juvenile bet between Harper and Kennedy. In what world is Harper's prank even remotely acceptable? That subplot was unnecessary and felt out of place.

This story follows Kennedy, who starts a new job as a paralegal. During her interview, she realises that the man she once thought she’d spend her life with—ten years ago—is now her potential new boss. However, he acts as if he doesn’t recognise her. Can they work together professionally, or will unresolved feelings and tension push them to their breaking point?
Lets start with the audiobook. It was fantastic in duet narration. If you’re considering picking this up, I highly recommend giving it a chance in that format. While I enjoyed the book, it didn’t quite stand out for me. I loved how it began and where it was heading, but I didn’t expect them to give in to temptation so quickly. I personally would have preferred more tension and a slow burn. Given their history, I was hoping for more heated confrontations—yelling, arguing—before they gave in.
Additionally, I felt Kennedy’s father got off the hook too easily, considering the revelations in the storyline. The fact that the father sought out the MMC to clear the air, only for everything to be brushed aside, was frustrating to read. That said, the spice was great, and I really enjoy Jolie’s writing. While this one was a good, easy listen, I look forward to reading more of her work.

Best part of the book is in the ad
DNF Kennedy is immature and lacks perspective. I skimmed a lot of the book as it just wasn't that interesting. I thought the legal plotline would support the romance but neither were really there. It went from zero to dating too fast and when the train for the breakup is revealed Kennedy has zero understanding for Cade and uses him as a scapegoat for her own choices. Would have rated it lower but I did read most of it. At about the 75% mark I realized I just didn't care how they got their HEA. I didn't like Kennedy nd thought if Case were a real guy I'd like him to find a nice girl who would appreciate him and support him outside the bedroom.

This was a quick and fun read! It was filled with lots of laugh. I enjoyed the banter, and how grumpy Cade was. I got a little lost a few times, but the story wasn’t too deep — it was a good second chance though! I enjoyed Kennedy and how she pushed Cade’s buttons. Cade really redeemed himself, and I enjoyed how the issue was resolved!
The audio though? That’s why this is four stars, I added an extra star because I loved CJ and Teddy’s performance. These narrators made the story much more enjoyable!! Two of my favs, I always enjoy their work!

I really tried but I can’t
I have tried reading this book twice and both times Harper (who’s a side character) just irks me too much to finish the book. It’s like her sole purpose is to drive the main characters into awkwardly interacting- the bathroom call and the bet. She’s distracting to the point that I gave up on the book (twice!!). Harper’s interactions with Kennedy is why I don’t like Kennedy. Kennedy without Harper is a solid female
Lead. However, Kennedy interacting with Harper is a train wreck that I cannot read anymore.

The premise was good but unfortunately I found the FMC to be whiny instead of the independent, strong woman she thought she was. For a 30 year old to let her best friend bet her into silly situations was a struggle to read. The audiobook saved it a little having Teddy Hamilton narrate Cade.

I would have really enjoyed this, because I liked both the leads, the audio narration was 5/5 stars, the dialogue crackled, and the chemistry was really fun.
But, sheesh, it got old seeing Kennedy be constantly humiliated. Between multiple overheard conversations, pranks gone wrong (and good Lord, her roommate needed to be told "no" a few times because good jobs are important and to risk one in THIS economy...?), letters and emails gone awry, and just plain badly timed coincidences, I just wanted her to win something. Luckily, Cade wasn't a dick and took most of it with good humor, which took the sting out of some of it, but it kind of felt like embarrassment-torture-porn after a while. I also was a little confused about how confident everyone was that Kennedy would make a good attorney, because man, was she bad at keeping secrets and/or subterfuge!
As for the Big Secret, it honestly felt like much ado about nothing; just a third-act speed bump made into a molehill, made into a mountain, designed to cause tension that wasn't needed.

I absolutely adore these types of scenarios where either one or both main characters are lawyers and there’s shared history. It’s the ideal formula!
Enter Cade and Kennedy, they called it quits a decade ago, but their feelings for each other never really went away. Now, Cade is Kennedy's boss at the law firm where she just landed a job as a paralegal. Working side by side reignites those lingering emotions, forcing them to address their past.

My first book by Jolie, and I loved it! Truly enjoyed it! This was a lot of fun, and something I haven’t read yet, which is awesome all on its own. 🤩
We have Cade who is a tattooed, dirty mouthed, motorcycle riding man who loves to lay down the law 😉 & then we have sassy Kennedy who accepts a job as his paralegal who just so happens to be the same woman who used to be the love of life, but what happens if she still is? I listened to the audiobook and would like to start with the positives: it’s duet narration. (Dramatic pause 👀) I’m sorry that was the only positive. 😒
I made it to 29% and just couldn’t do it!! I’m sorry you’re looking for a job, finally get a job and then let your so called friend convince you to play a prank on senior partners at the LAW FIRM by leaving your underwear and a note on their desk. Oh and did I mention she’s 30 years old! I literally couldn’t get past that part!! Immediate ick!! As a professional I would never and I mean NEVER even consider doing something like this nor even think about convincing my best friend to do something so stupid, reckless and potentially career ending. Just no!
This is the second book by this author that I don’t care for. And both times the FMCs were the main reason I didn’t like it. The first one I hate listened my way through (I only made it through because of my favorite male narrator), but I couldn’t and wouldn’t put myself through it again. I think I might be done with this author. Just no!!!! Save yourself the headache from rolling your eyes and try something else. Almost anything else!

This is such a fun, witty, steamy workplace, second chance romance! I really love Kennedy’s personality and sass. The banter and antics between her and Cade were top notch. I always love getting to know a couple through flashbacks. Even after 10 years, neither one has stopped thinking about the other. And the circumstances in which they’re brought back together, as boss and employee, made it all the more entertaining. Add in the cast of secondary characters, especially Kennedy’s best friend, and I really enjoyed this one all around! The tension, drama, humor, and pacing were all on point.

This was really cute! As always, the narration is *chefs kiss* which made this super enjoyable to listen to.
Both characters are really great! I loved Kennedy's sass! Cade is definitely the star of the book though. I loved how supportive he was, and always had been, of Kennedy and her dreams. He's definitely her #1 fan even when she didn't see it.
There was also a plot twist that I definitely didn't see coming and enjoyed!
If you're looking for a cute audiobook to listen to that's a little on the shorter side and has great narration, this one is for you!

I picked up "Quick Me If You Can" by Jolie Day, solely because it was narrated by CJ Bloom, one of my favorite audiobook narrators.
This book is about a woman who starts working in a new environment and discovers that her interviewer is her ex-boyfriend, who had dumped her previously.
She's flustered, but he acts as though he doesn't remember her. She nails the interview and gets the job, but she's not keen on working under him.
However, her roommate persuades her to take the job, and as they work together, they realize they're a good fit. She confronts him about their past, and he decides they should maintain a professional relationship.
But she begins to act childish and unprofessional, which I thought was unbecoming of someone with her standards.She was doing silly things that made me want to shake her.
I didn't enjoy the shenanigans they got up to, including starting a romantic relationship. There's a third-act breakup where she discovers the reason he dumped her in the past, which I found ridiculous. It was because her father had threatened him and told him to stay away.
I didn't like this plot twist, as it's been done multiple times before, and I've seen better executions of this storyline. Overall, I found the book underwhelming and didn't enjoy it as much.

There was a lot about this book that was good, but also some messy bits. For one, the timeline doesn’t make a lot of sense. It has been 10 years, but Kennedy is 30, so they broke up when she was 20? Yet they were on the verge of marriage? How long had they dated? It seems awfully young. Also, in describing the night of the break-up, Cade mentions his parents had just died. But he was already living with his brother when they met. How old is this brother supposed to be? And why is there no mention of him grieving his parents when they were together? As for the reason behind the break-up, I guess it’s somewhat reasonable. But Kennedy’s reaction when she finds out is not. It does not make sense that she’d be angrier at Cade. It does not make sense that she’d cut him out and return home to her parents. Her dad lied to her EVERY SINGLE DAY. Cade never lied.
Secondary problem…in what world would Harper’s idea of a prank be remotely okay? Especially geared at an older married man? It is implausible that a person who left their previous job due to sexual harassment would behave this way in the workplace.
So, while the romantic relationship was good, the execution was far too weak in some areas.

Cade was awful and selfish he broke up with Kennedy with zero explanation 10 years ago. He was apparently in love with her but didn’t really find this difficult and then proceeded to sleep with loads of other women to get over her.
Kennedy was just pathetic. Understandably was confused by the split and struggled to get over it with no closure however failing to go the law school and putting her life on hold. Also immediately forgiving him then when he was going to tell her she stopped him.
This author seems to love allowing men to make decisions for women and then the women forgive them with zero accountability or punishment. Zero grovel in this book.

I had shelved this a while ago but didn’t actually get around to reading it until now. I think I was delaying because this is another second chance romance and I have a love hate thing with these tropes. Sometimes I’m into them but most of the time I don’t really read them because I like brand new relationships better than revisiting an old love. Most of these don’t seem believable to me. It’s like, how can you still have feelings for one person after 1-10 years. In this case it was the latter. You can imagine my thoughts when this would be a story rehash after being separated for 10 years. I didn’t believe that this could be possible. I would think one would move on after that long but leave it to a book to showcase a relationship for that. I had mixed feelings about this book. The first half was boring and uneventful. While I liked how Kennedy was determined to start a new job and wanted to make a good first impression, her back and forth about whether or not she would get it, blended with if she really wanted it or not. The first handful of chapters only had her point of view so her indecision and lack of confidence mixed with lingering feelings she couldn’t squash about her ex Cade got old after a while. It gets interesting when she has to endure another interview and with Cade himself. Then it’s this undertone of desire and intrigue mixed with annoyance and anger. After this it’s more rehashing from Kennedy and thinking about the past while also trying to act like his presence doesn’t bother her and that she moved on. It becomes this weird in between moment in time when they both pretend seeing each other doesn’t affect them and Cade is basically unemotional about it and acts like he’s moved on too. It was kind of petty and ridiculous but whatever. It stays professional for a while, which continued the boringness since nothing was happening and it was going through the days which didn’t push the book along at all. Then, just when I contemplate on whether I should have picked up this book in the first place, Kennedy drops her panties on the wrong desk as a joke and shortly after that pretends to be someone else in a dating application just to message him and play with him as another joke. This is where it gets interesting and I think this should have continued on a bit longer. I wanted this dating application to just be a border between Cade and Kennedy so they could get to know each other again while having Cade think he’s talking to someone else. In my mind, I was thinking maybe this way we can get a more intimate window about Cade and why he was acting the way he was with her. I wanted him to open up more because at this time he wasn’t doing himself any favors by getting me on his side. I wanted Cade to drop his professionalism with her and have some semblance of emotion and intrigue because this guy seriously made me think Kennedy didn’t affect him in any way. I wanted Cade more raw and vulnerable at this point because we were getting nowhere with him. Finally when Kennedy pushes his buttons too far one night they have this very passionate kiss and from then on, even after still deciding to stay professional, it was a different story. All of a sudden, with no explanation and after Kennedy has sort of come to terms that things won’t go back to the way they were with Cade and she shouldn’t pursue anything with him, he shows up on her doorstep. He completely bypasses his court appearance and instead resorts to seeing her and we FINALLY get a vulnerable and weak Cade when it comes to her. Now, my issue with this scene is what happened between the kiss and his court date? What made him change his mind? Why the sudden need to be honest and truthful as well as emotional to her? When did he decide he wanted to start over with her and get tender again as well as jump back into a relationship? I’d like to see the chapter where he decides all this and what triggers it because it felt like a complete 180 from the first time we meet him. All of a sudden he’s sweet, caring, sensual and has this need for her. He jumps right back into the loving boyfriend role and the intensity and passion is back in him as well as his sexual appetite. I wish we got a glimpse into his deciding factor here but it just happens with no explanation and I didn’t know how I felt about it. There were other chapters in this book that sets up the next scene and decisions but for Cade to completely change his mind, it’s a bit questionable. Now, where was this Cade when the book started? I get the shock value between Kennedy and him and navigating a professional relationship while maintaining emotions because of unsettled feelings but I wanted this Cade in the beginning. From there, the book was so much better. He was attentive, warm, tender and insatiable to her. Then we find out what happened all those years ago that made him cut ties with Kennedy and break up and that in itself I wasn’t expecting. Then things get really messy and I was here for the drama because it also involves Kennedy’s dad so that was a surprise. Before I knew it I’m hurrying to finish up this book because this is where all the fun things start, making the book skyrocket from boring to interesting and exciting. The sex scenes were unbelievable, I enjoyed finally reading about Cade once he got emotional. In closing, had the book continued with no excitement or emotions and Cade staying closed off I wouldn’t have given this book a high rating at all, but it saved itself with the second half and shot this up to a 4, only because of the slow start and lack of emotion in the beginning, am I not giving this a full 5.

Oh I had such a blast reading this one as it was a fun ride right from that first page. What I felt kept me hooked and our author has done beautifully is - maintained that perfect balance between giving us lots of fun and absolutely hilarious moments along with moments filled with deep emotions that will make you feel oh so much.
So we have Kennedy who's in desperate need of a job and when she gets this opportunity to interview as a paralegal at a reputed law firm, it's her only hope and also it seems like less likely that she'd get the job.

Like imagine, talking about how good your ex was in bed thinking no one's around when you are in the washroom but your boss, the man in question eavesdrops on said conversation because of construction work and then the realization that he did listen. Oooohhh🫢
Then there's also this wild bet that Harper makes Kennedy do and WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.... OH MY... 🤭😲🤣🤣

Especially when they do give in... It was not only super hot but so sweet and beautiful because you can feel the passion and intensity but also how deeply and crazily gone they are for each other.

That one scene with Humphries senior when a major mistake has happened, I loved how Cade showed who matters the most to him in that moment but he also owned up to what had happened and that earned him huge respect in my eyes.
This one is equally a emotional rollercoaster too for the turns this story takes and had me absolutely invested in wanting to know everything and how it would all play out.

Oh I had such a blast reading this one as it was a fun ride right from that first page. What I felt kept me hooked and our author has done beautifully is - maintained that perfect balance between giving us lots of fun and absolutely hilarious moments along with moments filled with deep emotions that will make you feel oh so much.
So we have Kennedy who's in desperate need of a job and when she gets this opportunity to interview as a paralegal at a reputed law firm, it's her only hope and also it seems like less likely that she'd get the job.
