At six feet of cocky charm, easy smiles, and a reckless streak a mile wide, Harlan “Gator” Thibodeaux is not my type. So why is he the one I call when my world falls apart?
Julius Petros has spent years dazzling older men who wanted arm candy, not commitment—men who loved the sparkle but never stayed long enough to see the person underneath. Gator is nothing like them. He’s bold, disarming, and far too willing to look past the performance and into the parts of Julius no one else has bothered to see—the parts he’s tried to keep hidden.
But when Julius witnesses an abduction behind a nightclub, the danger becomes terrifyingly real—and the only person he trusts to keep him alive is Gator.
Gator is ex-military, a hand-to-hand combat expert, and far more dangerous than he lets on. He’s sharp, loyal, and lethal when it counts. And when he promises to protect Julius, he means all of him—the glitter, the drama, and the heart he’s never let anyone hold.
As danger closes in and the truth about what Julius witnessed begins to unravel, he’ll have to stay hidden behind a wall of sparkle and sass, or let in the one man who might be strong enough to stand beside him.
This had everything I love. I love how they took care of each other. How they were adults and communicated. These two have kinda been circling around each other. I love watching them fall for each other and truly trust each other. The writing was great. The spice was yum, and the secondary plot was great. Excited for the next couple.
For me to remember Dual pov No cheating/ sharing Relationship before No om/ow
Gator is the second book in the Three Bears Tactical series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This is the story of Julius and Harlan(Gator). This is Daddy/boy story which I love. I loved the guys so much and watching them build a relationship. These guys are just perfect for each other. I loved the plot and the fact that it seemed a little darker. This was just a great read with loveable characters and some steamy moments. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
Gator is the second book in the Protector Daddies series by Jacki James. This is the story of Gator and Julius. I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, thrilling, full of feels and very well written!
Gator by Jacki James is the second book in her Three Bears Tactical series. You may want to read the first book first in order to understand the company as well as characters that occur in this one. This is the story of a Daddy and Boy who have danced around each other for a while and when one gets in serious life-threatening trouble, the other saves him and they finally declare their love. Harlan “Gator” Thibodeaux is an ex-military hand to hand combat expert. He is one of the Bears in Three Bears Tactical and enjoys his job protecting people and training groups at The Camp with the personnel his company hires. His best friends are the other Bears, Wolfe and Hawk and they work and live in their company building in Vesper, Texas. He has had his eye on Julius Petros for a while but when he was going to make his move Julius was with someone else. Then he heard that he was single again and was going to be at Kirby’s, an LBGTQ+ bar, so he was going to go and see if he could finally claim him. Julius was the owner of The Shag Shack salon and was an excellent hair dresser. His crew of Tori, Harper, Migs, and Devan all adored him. He had also had his eye on Gator and when he found out his so-called Daddy in Austin was cheating on him, he was ready to meet up at Kirby’s and see what happens. He sits at Gator’s table with all his friends and then they dance which leads to a kiss and they decide to go back to Gator’s but Julius has to use the restroom first. When he’s leaving, he sees a boy being hustled out the back door and he realizes he’s been drugged. He follows to try to save him and when one of the guys by the car says he’ll take him too, he rushes back in the bar and tells everyone what happened. This gets Three Bears Tactical involved as well as their friend Chance Kelly who works for the FBI. Gator follows him home to make sure he is safe and everything seems OK until Julius sees the man from the alley outside of his salon and a car following him. He tries to evade them but they stick to him and so he goes to Three Bears Tactical and gets Gator. Gator’s protective instincts kick in and he says that Julius needs to stay in the building and that they have empty apartments on the 9th floor just for this kind of situation. So they get enough clothes for a week and Trixie, Julius’s African Gray Parrot, and go back there so he can get settled in. They start spending more time together as Gator goes to the salon to watch over him, they spend time with the others in Three Bears at Game night, Gator meets Julius’s sister, niece, and Ya Ya, and goes to a football game with them. All this time they are growing closer which leads to several hot love scenes. Meanwhile Three Bears Tactical is still trying to find out information about the kidnapping and have found out who the Boy was and name of one of the men who was there, and who they think is behind the trafficking ring that this is all about. Chance says they are getting closer to getting him, but he still needs more information so they are waiting to see what will happen next. And when it does, it involves Julius who leaves a note and never gives up believing that Gator will find him. There are some very tense scenes as the plan of attack for saving him takes shape and then happens and you know Gator will never give up until he gets him back. Both men are relieved to be back in each other’s arms and that they can finally arrest the men behind the kidnappings and trafficking ring. They know they belong together and are looking forward to a life with each other. I really enjoyed this book. Ms. James’s stories always have some action as well as tender scenes and this one is no exception. Julius is a great hair stylist, a good friend, and a good listener but he also thinks he’s too colorful, too loud, and too over the top so men don’t want him for long. Gator has had his eye on him and likes bratty Boys and knows he wants to be with Julius. He has a protective streak a mile wide and when Julius is taken, he goes into full military mode to get him back. The stylists at the salon, the guys at Three Bears Tactical, and Mika, a good friend, all play an important part in the story. And Trixie, Julius’s parrot, squawks out some pretty outlandish things that leave you laughing out loud. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like Daddy/Boy stories that include a former military Daddy, a Boy in need of a strong hand, and a scary kidnapping where the Daddy goes all out to save his Boy as they fall in love and know they belong together.
This is the second book in The Three Bears Tactical series. It would be best to read the series in order but you can enjoy this book as a standalone read. This is the story of Julius Petros and Harlan (Gator) Thibodeaux. Julius is a hair stylist and owner of The Shag Shack. He is bright and bubbly. He is also a little that is looking for a daddy. And the one he has his eye on is finally single at the same time as him. Gator is one of the owners of the Three Bears Tactical security company. He is older than Julius (something Julius likes very much) and is drawn to him. When they manage to finally get together nothing but chemistry for days is seen and felt. Julius loves being bratty but it is a good thing that Gator likes a challenge. But then when Julius witnesses an abduction everything changes. Romantic interlude is put on hold and Gator goes into Daddy/protector mode. He stays with Gator until the missing man is found. But this event links back to the first book. All the human traffickers were not caught and it is obvious that they are still up and running. This is action and suspense in this book. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This book is well written and easy to read. I loved watching their relationship grow. There is a lot of banter and entertainment from the crew at both their work. And a fun parrot named Trixie to lighten up the mood. This is another great book in this series. I enjoyed them both a lot and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
We're back at Three Bears Tactical and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s Gator’s turn to find his perfect match, and let me tell you, the vibe is just fantastic. So, Julius—one of Mikas’s super cool friends—met Gator before, but their timing never quite lined up, you know? Until now! And when everything finally clicks into place, Julius is right there witnessing someone getting taken, and Gator, being the loyal, adorable protector we all love, flips into full-on hero mode, taking Julius and Trixie, his crazy, Diva, African Gray Parrot to stay in one of the apartments in the Three Bears Tactical building.
Julius is a strong, independent young guy who only allows the best people into his circle, and thanks to Gator and the other members of Three Bears Tactical, he finally feels free to be totally himself, making genuine, heartwarming friends along the way. Gator? Oh, he’s got just the right mix of sweet, caring, and a little possessive—honestly, it’s enough to make you swoon imagining how wonderful they’ll be once everything’s settled. And seeing Julius just be his authentic self, ignoring the negativity and shining bright—that was really something special.
Each book in this series just keeps getting better, giving us a peek into the lives of other Three Bears Tactical members, and wow, does it leave you craving more stories! With so many amazing characters still to explore, I seriously cannot wait to see how Crowe does in his book, I seriously love these guys.
Julius Petros is used to dazzling men who want surface-level sparkle, not substance. But when he witnesses a violent abduction, he turns to the one person who sees past the performance—Harlan “Gator” Thibodeaux, a cocky, charming ex-military protector with a lethal edge and a surprising depth of loyalty. As danger escalates and secrets unravel, Gator becomes Julius’s shield and safe haven, embracing not just his glitter and sass but the vulnerable heart beneath. Now Julius must choose: keep hiding behind the persona he’s crafted, or risk everything by letting Gator in—for real.
I loved this story with the two men who danced around each other with all of the glitter, danger, and Gator - the man who sees through it all. I loved that Julius had been treated as arm candy—desired but never truly valued. His journey was one of reclaiming his self-worth, learning that he deserved more than admiration; he deserved love. Gator’s unwavering attention helped Julius see himself through a new lens, one that honours both his sparkle and his substance. I also loved that Julius never expected someone like Gator to be the one who truly saw him. Their relationship challenged preconceived notions of compatibility and attraction. That suggested that love often arrives in unexpected forms—and that emotional recalibration is necessary when someone finally meets you where you are. Lots of emotions and feelings in this MM story with mature content.
This was an entertaining read from the start. Julius has a great personality, very much full of snark and charm. He and Gator/Harlan have been circling each other for ages, always being a near miss but they now have a chance. At least until Julius sees a man being kidnapped from the club and becomes in danger himself. Who better to protect him than Harlan and Three Bears Security. Harlan has been gone on Julius for ages and now is his chance to have this boy for himself. His safety is paramount but finds he can't stay away, and why would he when their connection is white hot! Regarding the romance, and time spent socially at the Three Bears building, it's light, funny and extremely hot when it comes to the MC's. It's great with Julius getting to know everyone on the team, and Trixie, Julius's grey parrot is a fabulous side character who often brings a smile. Things do get tense, though, alongside the angst and heat. There is on-page kidnapping (twice) with talk of where they will be going. Three Bears are well represented, showing off what they can do when it comes to their profession. we get cameos of Hawk and Mika and are slowly getting to know the rest of the team. I'm very interested to read the next book. A highly recommended read from this author. Full of snark, action, mystery /suspense and some very hot moments. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Gator/Harlan is part owner of Three Bears Tactical, having been interested in Julius, the timing has just not been right, now Julius is single. At the club's Daddy/Boy night, Gator wants a chance, but when the night is interrupted by an abduction, Gator knows one thing he needs to keep Julius safe. From the moment I started this book I was happy to return to this world. Gator was the protective Daddy that I knew he would be and when he said he would do something, he went for it. Julius was the full of life, sassy boy that kept him on his toes. Whilst we see Gator and Julius get closer together and they were so hot together, there is also the added mystery of who is behind the abduction, lives are in danger but the Three Bears Tactical are good at what they do. More are known about the rest of the team and with some great secondary character I want to to know their stories especially Ash, Maddox, Chance and Wolfe. Although as others have mentioned Trixie was the start of the show and I cannot wait to hear her sassy mouth in future books. I have seen who's story is next and now I will have to sit and wait. As for Gator and Julius I cannot wait for them to make an appearance in future works
This was more Daddy lite but just as good as Hawk, the first book in the series. Gator and Julius were each attracted to the other but their timing hadn't been right till now. The feelings were there and an abduction witnessed by Julius finally threw them together, though they were already headed that way the night it happened. The story was well-done, with the romance woven alongside the abduction thread, amid the tension of looking for the abducted man while worry for Julius' safety. I loved how protective Gator was of Julius, and how Julius made it clear that his life needed to go on as normal despite the threat of something happening to him. They were a true partnership, only made better by the third member of their little family. Trixie was the actual star of this show. Every moment she was on page, she stole the attention of every character and probably every reader too. The camaraderie between all the Three Bears Tactical staff was good, with lots of entertaining banter but real respect for each other too. I'm glad it's not just going to be a trio of books, with Crowe next up. I'm definitely hoping that Jacki is saving the best for last (Wolfe, obviously).
Gator may seem hard on the outside but he is sweet as can be on the inside especially for the man who stole his heart without realizing it. Jules is a wonderful man with a sparkling personality but due to his past he tries to hide behind a fake smile and doesn’t let anyone in but one person can see right through it all and is determined to protect him at all costs. Gator and Jules are perfect for one another, their chemistry has been off the charts from the moment they met in Hawkes book but life and circumstances have made it hard for them to explore what they both can feel until now. Jules is single and gator isn’t letting him get away this time. From the moment they reconnect their love blossoms and build something beautiful. Some people may think their love happens too fast but that love has been building since the moment they met. My heart broke for both Jules and Noah in this book for what they both go through but gator and his men do what they always do and protect the ones they care about. I absolutely enjoyed reading this story, Jacki did amazing and I can’t wait to see what she does with Crowes book. 😁❤️
What a fast paced, scary, heat filled, sassy, love and friends filled story! Gator won me over right away with how he thought of Julius and perused him with kisses, caring, protective instincts and finally got out of his own way. Julius being the smart, talented, fun and sassy guy he is knew that Gator was worth the challenge. I love Julius style and sassiness and how he teases Gator. I adored how their relationship evolved. How protective they are of each other and the friends they have that protect them. A stronger group of friends I'm sure are not to be found...unless its inside the books of all these characters. I will admit I was terrified for a bit. Contemplated skipping ahead to make sure it turned out the way I hoped. I was strong though and kept reading. Now there are some characters that I disliked VERY much but I won't ruin it for the reader on how they are handled. Trixie is amazing and I'd love to see more of her in future books...fingers crossed. I am looking forward to the next book. Spicey, spicy spicy!
Second in series (Three Bears Tactical), but can be read as a standalone. Daddy/boy. Close proximity. Dual POV.
Finally the timing is right for security expert Gator to approach hair salon owner Julius and see if he can be the Daddy Julius wants. However, Julius witnesses a crime, and now he needs protection, and who better than the man that wants to keep him close anyway.
Even with the slightly darker criminal subject matter which drives the plot, this story is low angst when it comes to how Gator and Julius start and build their relationship. I enjoyed that both men were 100 percent interested and committed to finding out if they worked, and that they are surrounded by some terrific and supportive found family and friends was fun to read (especially a sassy pet parrot that matched Julius’s energy). Gator and Julius had immediate chemistry and no hesitation in trusting that they would last, and there was no doubt Gator would protect Julius no matter what. This series has introduced an intriguing set of characters I look forward to reading so that they all get their HEA.
I absolutely adored these guys together. I love Julius’ flamboyance and fun attitude, and I love Gator’s protectiveness. Hell, I loved everything about Gator. He’s one of those who is all about mine. Gets to me every single time.
“Mine,” I stated, the word a low growl, thick with emotion.
“Yours,” he breathed back, pure certainty shining in his eyes.
The thing I loved most about these guys is that they, as a couple, never had any drama, or doubts, or any silly misunderstandings.
This is a great addition to the series. Jacki James has been on my auto-buy list for a while. I enjoyed this one every bit as much as her others.
I’ve just finished Gator and I’m left with such a warm, happy feeling. Julius is absolutely hilarious —one of those characters who just light up every scene they’re in— but what really hooked me was Trixie and the way every character connects and interacts. There’s this constant tension running through the story, the kind that keeps you on edge because you know something is about to happen… but you can’t quite figure out how it will unfold.
And then there’s Gator. The tenderness in how he’s always trying to protect Julius, even when he doesn’t realize how much he’s risking himself, completely melted me. It’s not just a love story —it’s about care, loyalty, and the quiet ways we show up for the people we love.
Gator is one of those reads that balances everything perfectly: it’s exciting, sweet, and genuinely funny. Every chapter leaves you wanting more, and by the time you reach the end, you feel like you’ve just said goodbye to friends you didn’t want to let go of.
I really enjoyed Gator with it’s a great mix of action, heat, and heart. Julius and Gator have been circling each other for ages, and when danger strikes, their chemistry finally explodes into something real. I loved seeing how protective Gator is without ever taking away Julius’s sparkle or sass, they balance each other perfectly.
With plenty of tension and a solid mystery thread with the kidnapping plot, but i really felt the emotional connection between them is what makes it shine. The supporting cast (and Trixie the parrot!) added humour and warmth stopping the story from ever feeling too heavy.
A fast-paced, romantic, and surprisingly sweet Daddy/Boy story with just the right dose of suspense and tenderness. Definitely one to read if you like your romances with strong protectors, brave hearts, and a bit of glitter on top.
I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review
We finally get to meet our second Daddy bear, Harlan, aka Gator, and his boy, Julius. They have had a bit of the right chemistry and wrong timing since they met, but now everything has finally come together. Gator is one of the Three Bears, and he is often out of town working on a job, but he has always been missing his other half, a boy to love and cherish. He has had his eyes on Julius, but every time, it is right for Gator, it is not for Julius, and when it is right for Julius, Gator gets pulled away on assignment. Now, Julius is single, and Gator is home and ready to make that boy his. But before we set off the confetti cannons, there is always danger lurking in the work of TBT, and this story is no different. One thing that you can count on is that no one can protect a boy better than his Daddy, and Gator comes through every time.
Jacki James is easily one of my favorite Daddy authors, and I cannot wait for the next installment of this series.
I recieved an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving a voluntary review.
This is book two of a very good series. The men at Three Bears Tactical are fantastic caretakers and dominant lovers, and I'm enjoying seeing them find their HEA's. It's Gator's turn this time around. Gator and Julius very quickly move from lust to so much more when Julius witnesses a young man getting kidnapped, and Gator becomes his protector. I love the characters, including Trixie the smart mouthed parrot, and I like the flow of the romance. Julius is sassy and snarky, and Gator loves that about him. The heat is strong between these men from the start, and both already hope for a future together even before the abduction. Meeting friends and families and becoming a couple is quick but very satisfying. And the drama of the evil traffickers is engrossing. I really like this series, and I'm looking forward to the next installment. I enjoy spending time with these people, and there are quite a few who could use a good HEA. I'm here for that!
We are back to Three Bears Tactical and it's time for Gator to get his perfect boy. Julius is one of Mikas friends that met Gator before, but time never was right for them to give it a go. When it finally falls as it should Julius witnesses someone being taken, Gator being Gator goes to protector mode. Julius is a strong independent boy who only lets people who earn it in and with TBT he is able to be free as himself and make lasting friendships. Gator has that right level of sweetheart and possessiveness that just makes you swoon for how they will be once all is settled. Was nice to see Julius being himself no matter who put him down and letting himself shine. Enjoying with each book of this series we get to learn more of the other members of TBT but dang does that make you need more stories now. With so many members to go I cannot wait to see who is next, I know there are two couples I'd like to see happening for sure.
Oh my, (fans face, flutters eyelids), Jacki James has done it once again. A protective Daddy, a sassy/sweet boy. Danger that keeps you on the edge of your seat. And spice, spice, spice. Gator, a close combat, security specialist for Three Bears, becomes the protector for Julius after the other man witnesses a crime. They have a history, and between bouts of danger, Gator pursues his boy. Some intense chemistry, the very air sizzles. Gator's overprotectiveness overcomes julius' doubts, while James puts them through the ringer. Best part of Jacki James' books, the found family MCs always find their way into the current book. There's danger, yes. But there's also humor. A fun, quick read. Three books are planned (one for each Bear), but there are a lot of material and characters for more. Always want more! I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.
This was a cute story, and I loved that we still had some exciting moments in it. These moments can be trigging to some, so please read the TWs! 🩵
If I’m being honest, Trixie is my favorite side character. Nothing and no one will change my mind!
Overall, it is best to read the series in order. Gator and Julius actually meet in book 1, and they’ve basically been playing ‘ring around the rosie’ ever since 😪 Once they finally get “together”, of course that’s when the incident happens. But it just draws them closer. I love how much they care for each other, and how far Gator will go for his Mon petit *swoon* 🥹
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN GATOR: * KIDNAPPING * TACTICAL ASSAULT * DADDY/BOY DYNAMIC * A BIRD WHO TALKS MORE SHIT THAN THE HUMANS DO * PERFECT PERSON, POOR TIMING * HAIR STYLIST MMC / THREE BEARS MMC
Second book of the Three Bears Tactical series, it follows closely the first one pattern, romance mixed with a mystery/case that has a dose of suspense and tension that works great for the story. I really liked the characters and how they actually knew each other before the book but it was a case of right person, wrong moment, until now. Even a serious situation like the one they are living is not enough to stop their relationship to evolve into something more. Also, Trixie? The MVP, no doubt. I loved each interaction everyone had with her, it was funny and sweet when it was right, I just loved it. I also love all the workers at that company and want to read their stories too!
*I have received an ARC from the author for my honest review.
Another great Daddy book by Jacki James. I have loved all of her books and it’s always great to see the other MC’s from the other books pop in. Gator is our strong Daddy. He owns a security company with Hawk (from a previous book) and some other future Daddies. Julius is also a side character from another Daddy book. He has a dysfunctional mother but other strong woman in his family that love him dearly. He has been going down the wrong road as far as relationships are concerned. He and Gator have circled each other a couple of times but “trouble” brings them together. Loved to watch all the relationship building that goes on in these books. Very steamy and a great HEA. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy!
A wonderful book with just the right amount of romance and drama action to balance everything out.
Three Bears Tactical to the rescue again for one of their boys. Julius and Gator are both single at the same time, but just when they are having a good time at the club during Daddy/little night, something happens. Julius witnesses a kidnapping and becomes a target for the kidnappers. Gator isn't going to let anyone hurt his boy. Even with all the protection in the world, Julius still falls in the hands of the kidnappers. Can Gator and the Three Bears Tactical save not only Julius but all the other kidnapped victims? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Gator is a confident leader. He has easy charm, a seductive accent, and can keep you safe. He’s also got a soft spot for the very inappropriate African Grey Julius loves.
Interest has been thrumming between them both for a while, but timing hasn’t been right. And finally, it seems like their time has come. Until Julius witnesses a kidnapping.
But keeping him safe also means staying close! And not taking his eyes off him. *eye waggle* While trying to figure out who’s behind it all, they get a chance to really get to know each other, and geez, they are good for each other.
The chemistry is fantastic. The bird is hilarious. The Three Bear team is a solid and caring family of characters. The writing supberb.
Julius sees something he's not supposed to and ends up being targeted by human traffickers, luckily for him Gator is not gonna let anything happen to him if he can help it! Gator has been pining for Julius for a while but timing always seems to be off, now Julius is in danger and Gator's protectiveness kicks in full force!
The chemistry is off the charts and the pull between these two is intense regardless of everything happening around them! There is drama and spice and a silly bird, Trixie, that provides comedic relief at the perfect times! Also the friends group thats more like family is very involved in this as well! it's a great read!
I am loving these protective daddy books. This one features Julius and Gator (Harlan). Julius owns the Shag Shack salon and one night goes to Kirby’s for daddies night. He has always had the hots for Gator but was not single when Gator was. That night Gator made his move and when Julius got out of the washroom, he notices a young man being helped out. He realized that he was drugged and wanted to help but there were three men outside and couldn’t do anything. After telling Gator what happened, they all jumped into action to help find him. Gator and Julius started getting closer as well and the heat was off the charts. This was a great read with Gator getting all protective, especially when Julius got taken and the team went in to save them all. I cannot wait to read more in this series.
Julius is so snarky but he has a heart of gold, always willing to help others which is why he has a great group of friends. He witnesses something he shouldn't have and is now the target of some very dangerous people. Gator (Harlan) is part of the security team and has been interested in Julius for a while. Julius wants nothing to do with relationships because he's been hurt in the past. As Gator is in charge of protecting Julius, they slowly get to know one another and realize they're perfect together. There's action, danger, mystery and mayhem. I absolutely loved Trixie, she's the perfect pet for Julius and provided plenty of comedic relief.
Great adventure! Julius, has depth but he is always regarded as superficial 'eye candy'. He accepts his role. Then he witnesses a crime and needs protection. Gator, is who he calls. Gator is part of Three Bears and willing to look after Julius. They stumble into an entire pit of adventure that is bigger than they anticipated and complicated enough to be a challenge. Excellent cast of characters who are fun, funny, focused and deadly. Jackie, has given us an amazing group of men and brave men who can use the help. Absolutaly amazingly adventurous series. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Gator by Jacki James is book 2 in the Three Bears Tactical series. I absolutely loved Julius and Gator’s relationship. They were so sweet and loving. It was even better when Gator dropped the pretense that he couldn’t be in a relationship with someone he was protecting. He was already into Julius before everything happened, so it didn’t make sense to push Julius away. I enjoyed the mystery aspect and I adore all the men and women who are a part of the Three Bears. I am looking forward to Noah/Crowe and possibly Wolfe/Caden. Such an enjoyable series!
I received an ARC from the author and Neon Rainbow ARC Readers for my honest review.
