Another quality eBook from Chapel Library. Pastor Charles R. Parsons describes an hour’s interview with George Müller toward the close of his warm summer day found me slowly walking up the shady groves of Ashley Hill, Bristol. At the top there met my gaze the immense buildings which shelter over two thousand orphans, built by a man who has given to the world the most striking object lesson in faith it has ever seen. The first house was on the right, and there among his own people, in plain, unpretentious apartments, lived the saintly patriarch, George Müller. Passing the lodge gate, I paused a moment to look at House No. 3, one of the five erected at a cost of $600,000.The bell was answered by an orphan who conducted me up a lofty stone staircase and into one of the private rooms of the venerable founder of that great institution. Mr. Müller had attained the remarkable age of ninety-one. As I stood in his presence, veneration filled my mind. “Thou shalt rise up before the...
I got this book because I read George Muller's autobiography and was interested in seeing what some of his last words might be. This is really not something anyone needs to read, unless you are doing a comprehensive study of the life of this man of faith. I think the author was rather pandering and over-awed of Mr. Muller.
The interview recorded in the first chapter is something I would expect to read in a magazine or newspaper; it isn't substantial enough to justify publication of its own book. The second chapter provides a brief biographical sketch of Muller's walk with the Lord--again mostly taken from the minister's own writings. The third chapter quotes some notable examples of God's provision from a handful of individuals who knew the man. The fourth quotes Muller's words about faith.
Perhaps the most practical part of this book is found in the appendices--which again are nothing composed by the author, but are taken from Muller's works. Appendix A notes Five Conditions of Prevailing Prayer. Appendix B encourages the reading of God's Word, rather than books about the Scriptures, to provide a foundation for our faith, preaching and conduct. And C provides guidelines for discerning the will of God.
I read it in one brief sitting and really didn't walk away with any profound or new revelation. However, Muller's admonition to seek God's will after having set aside my own desires was timely and relevant.
I knew what to expect when I downloaded the book and was not disappointed. It was inspiring to read about the pure, basic, simple faith which George Muller had developed through his life experiences of God's provision. This man had the deep understanding that if God told him to do something that God would provide whatever was needed - be it resources, sustenance, travel or whatever. His life journeys and responsibilities were not about what he wanted to do but simply a fulfillment of God's instructions to him, therefore God provided every need. His confidence and expectations of God came from many years of having a close walk with God as his best friend. Some very important lessons in this little book for us today. Inspirational.
Short but very concise with the life details which we can emulate as a believer in Christ to live a life that is worthy of our King Jesus. Definitely a must read for every true passionate believer of Christ. George Muller is one of those true servants and friends of God whose life serve as our inspiration that as they have done so can we also be God's radiance of transforming love and light as we fully surreneder to Him. All for God's glory. Will definitely recommend this book.
One of the most encouraging, inspiring, and faith-building little books I have ever read. George Muller is one of the most remarkable lives of faith and world impact ever lived. Truly, truly incredible. And the best part is that his life of near daily miracles and supernatural provision is available to every believing Christian! Loved this short book. (It’s also FREE on Amazon Kindle right now!) Instantly one of my all time favorites. So blessed and encouraged after reading it. Highly recommended!
*George Mullers autobiography is another all time favorite and must read as well.
Understand, though, that the book is much more than the one-hour interview with Muller, and that is a good thing. You will do d supplementary material which will also give insight into this man of God. Hopefully reading this will make you hungry to read more about this man and how he served God in, by today's standards at least, unheard of methods.
This was a short read of about an hour or so, but it is packed with very good information. I find George Mueller"s story and his advice to be comforting because I identify with the circumstances to which he was in. I will definitely be reading this short read at least one more time.
I gave it 5 stars because of the effect it had on me. After reading this short book I concluded that God will do incredible things in my life if I play by His Rules! In this little book you read about a man who lacked absolutely no necessity at all. Was he worldly rich? No, which is all the more reason you should read this book.
This is a short book with some info about George Muller. Having already read a book about him, it was not as inspiring as maybe it would be for someone who has never read about him before. It was okay, and probably someone who has never read about George Muller would really enjoy it, and it may make them want to read more about him.
Simple yet profound. Just take and trust God at His Word: He has never failed and can never fail. If you truly desire to see God move, go what this man did and you will see God move in and through your life.
Good to read about Mueller. I've heard many sermons that referred to him. It was especially good to read his own words from his sermons and writings. Well presented. Chapel Library is serving a great function of ministry to the saints.
A brilliant, short booklet on George Muller. Inspired from a short interview, this overviewing biographical account of Muller’s unwavering trust and faith in God’s provision is aspirational and confronting to the reader.
Makes me want to pick up a more in-depth account of this man’s life!
A lot of information in a short book. Inspiring and uplifting. Faith, the Bible and leading by the Holy Spirit led Muller to experience daily miracles.
Short but sweet book about this incredible man of God and faith. less like reading about mueller and more like visiting with him for an hour over coffee.
Very brief, but probably a spring board to study further and settle some questions in my mind about what I'm seeing as growing interest in mysticism in the visiable and local church. With the error of Word-Faith and prosperity teaching so common in this day, I struggled a bit with George Muller's account of faith in instances such as confidently praying that the fog would be lifted in 5 minutes while on the ship going to Quebec, stating he had never missed an engagement in 57 years. He petitioned God on the basis that God made that speaking engagement for him and he believed it was his will to keep it, though he speaks of praying only for what he understands to be according to God's will and His promises as he reads and learns of God in Scripture. Reading about his faith helps and especially the appendices about the most simplest faith that grows through trial and difficulty over many years, reading God's word, asking for help to understand it, growing in knowledge of God which he says is only taught by the Spirit through the reading of God's Word (not other books and authors). I've read his autobiography, so I do have a bigger picture of his life and faith....still struggle with quotes like this though, "The province of faith begins where probabilities cease and sight and sense fail.", though he says, "It is not impressions strong or weak which will make the difference. We have to do with the Written Word and not ourselves or our impressions." He denies mysticism, which I'm glad of, but I would never define faith by pointing to the failure of sight and sense, in that faith is a gift of God and through the same regenerative and sanctifying work of the Spirit, sight and the renewal of the mind are also a gift. It might be that he is saying I don't See the answer to a particular problem and I don't know how to resolve it, but I'm trusting God in this,......but that is why I would struggle to put a 5 minute time limit in my petition to God....? That spins me into mental gymnastics, so is that where sight and sense fail?
This short bio read like a magazine article. Some encouraging insights. Biographies help to me to see that those I consider to be great are people too.
This interview with George Müller shows how he trusts God in providing for him and gives everything back to God. He prays all the time, persevering for answers. He has confidence and dependence on God through hard times. Through his prayers, God would miraculously provide money for his orphanage every time they needed. Troubles increased his faith. And he says that the works of uninspired men are NOT to be preferred over the oracles of the living God.
“It proves afresh that, if our work is His work, and we honor Him by waiting upon and looking to Him for means, He will surely, in His own time and way, supply them.”
This short reading made me cry, gave me joy, gave me hope, and revealed deficiency in my spiritual walk and a direction to begin working on change.
The intro section, the interview itself, was alone enough to convict of my deficiency in the areas of faith and prayer. Add to that the added sections revealing answers to prayer he had at times, and then add the sections on instructions to increase faith and reading of Scriptures, and this book provides a one, two, three punch to your spiritual walk.
A short read, but one that EVERY Christian needs to accomplish.
George Muller is a good example of someone with exceptional faith. That kind of faith is so surreal that it doesn't seem to be humanly possible, but the fact that someone (George Muller) has demonstrated that kind of faith gives me hope that it is definitely possible.
It's also comforting to know the simplicity of his prayers. They were simple, practical and obviously frequent because he said he spent hours praying every day. It's comforting to know that prayers don't have to be "sophisticated".
This short book is packed with inspiration and blessing.
While I love reading about George Müller, this book was disappointing. There was a brief (and uninformative) recounting of a meeting with Mr. Müller. The other 2/3 of huge book were almost entirely passages straight from Mr. Müller's autobiography. They were good passages, but not what I was expecting from the title and definition of this book.
