Heaven and Hell have spent millennia anticipating the arrival of the Envoy, the savior of prophecy who is said to unite the dimensions.
In a chance meeting, a young girl named Stephanie with mysterious control over static electricity becomes enamored with Kyan a sweet, if unremarkable, little boy. After Stephanie exposes her secret to the world in an attempt to draw out others with unexplained abilities, an accident reveals that Kyan is anything but ordinary. Putting everything on the line, Stephanie attempts to lead a group of gifted teens into a battle that could destroy their world. Does her devotion to the child have anything to do with his attractive older brother Keith and are all her actions just playing into the hands of the enigmatic Eric? Where have all these strange powers come from and why does Eric say that death isn't the end?
I enjoyed the book but everything seemed to be happening so fast. I didn't understand Keith and the romance just didn't really make sense. I mostly enjoyed the rest of the book but I don't think there was enough I don't know, EMOTION or whatever. Surely someone who's been through so much would have more feelings about it? It's almost like Stephanie was a robot or something.
This is a young adult fantasy book that I hesitated to read but I gave it a chance and I thought it was pretty good. There were a couple of slow chapters after I read half of the book but I kept going. I really wasn’t sure what the story was all about (but it was interesting) and things started coming together as I read. I don’t read many fantasy/supernatural books but this one kept me captivated. Some of the events/adventures were a little far-fetched but that’s what catches the reader’s attention.
The story is about a young girl named Stephanie whose father placed her in an orphanage when she was very young. They kept her secluded in a very small room for years because she had a gift of electricity static throughout her body that at the time she didn’t know how to control and the people at the orphanage thought she was a strange creature and kept her locked up. Years later she finally got the chance to run away as a young teenager. While on the run she starts understanding her abilities, such as throwing a lightning bolt or electrifying someone to survive.
On her journey she connected with teens that also were shunned by society because they were different but gifted in some way. She met Kyan who also had special powers and she falls in love with him. As the story moves on she becomes surrounded by many other characters that have special abilities but have hidden over the years with their secrets. Most of the teen characters are well crafted and compelling but not so many in dialogue to confuse the reader. Stephanie decided to come forward with her abilities to help other teens with supernatural powers or mutations to learn how to cope with in the midst of society.
However, meanwhile another issue came up to where the teens could help her save the world from fiends trying to tunnel their way from hell to the surface of earth to end life for the future. She was as honest with over 1500 teens about what was going on which, left her with almost 300 teens with different abilities who decided to stand by her and fight against really horrid mutilated creatures from the twenty-eight levels of hell. She needed to prepare them for combat using their different abilities. The day came when thousands of fiends broke through to the surface…..many died and even some of Stephanie’s close friends didn’t make it but they were determined…either they were going to live or take a new journey to heaven or hell….From heroes, villains, beauty queens, monsters, good and evil, this story has it all and more….If you like supernatural fantasy this is the book…
Do I have your new favorite non-comic book read! Lightning Girl by 27 is a fantastic novel that blends all the favorite elements of a great comic book, only without being so. Don't get me wrong. I think it would have been FANTASTIC if they included a comic strip at the beginning of each chapter, but sadly this is not a perfect world.
The book follows a young protagonist by the name of Stephanie Park, who has lived in an orphanage for fifteen years, ever since her father dropped her off. She also has the ability to manipulate electricity, a fact that no one at the wicked orphanage seems to pleased with as evidenced by how they lock her in a small closet. Stephanie is rescued twice from this hell hole, however. The first time by a young Japanese immigrant named Lucky and the second by a man named Mr. Gerard who wants to become her guardian and explore her abilities. He also wants to draw out other people with abilites and convince them not to live in fear. Sounds a little reminiscent of one Professor X from X-Men, huh? Well, that's what it reminded me of, but it did not diminish the quality of the book one bit!
Mr. Gerard thinks Stephanie needs to be the public face of synergies, or people like Stephanie who have powers. She gets entered in the Miss New York competition and rallies the synergy community behind her while bringing awareness to these people and simultaneously rapidly growing to care for a twelve year old boy by the name of Kyan Mal. Eventually, Stephanie realizes their is a rapid growing threat to the little boy she loves so much. Eric, a renegade Angel, believes Kyan to be the Envoy, the only one who can unite Heaven, Hell and Earth in peace. The fiends of Hell however, do not want this to occur and are building a tunnel to reach the Earth plane so they can rule. Stephanie must call upon her fellow synergies to protect the boy and Earth.
Overall, I loved this book. There were a few minor things that could have been improved on. I felt transitions were somewhat weak and certain things got glossed over pretty quickly. The book was fast paced and did remind me of a comic book and it got me curious as to what will happen in the next book.
Positives: Great plot, easy to read, and sympathetic characters. Negatives: Weak transitions and a somewhat elementary writing style in the beginning (this disappears towards the middle, leading me to believe the author was just trying to show how sheltered Stephanie was). Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I'm going to start off this review by saying that I really wanted to like this book. The front cover was incredibly cool and I really liked the blurb of the book.
I had a few issues with Stephanie. When she wasn't around the boys (plural. Because there wasn't just one love interest), she was a fairly interesting character. I liked her power and it was interesting to see the way it developed over the course of the book.
I didn't feel there was much effect shown from her past. Someone who is closed off from all physical contact and kept inside a tiny closet for most of their life probably shouldn't be as comfortable and well-adjusted as Stephanie is. I would have liked to see more of the issues that she probably would have and not just in that she lacks a lot of intelligence. The only real problems she seemed to have was a complete obsession with guys. I'm not sure how many, exactly, she was attracted to... but there were quite a few.
I really liked Kyan and I did like his interactions with Stephanie. I also liked the fact that he was stubborn and determined to learn how to protect himself, to the point that there was a very serious match. And it was good that he was looking out for Stephanie, even though he was technically the child.
The different powers the synergies had were really interesting. I would have liked a bit more information about how the different kinds of powers manifested and the whole thing with the Fiends. It was also cool to learn about the different levels and I would have liked to see more of them.
I found Steel a really intriguing character... right until he also started showing an unhealthy obsession with Stephanie. I was disappointed not to see more of Holly in the book. She was quite intriguing with her abilities, but there wasn't much shown about the difficulties she and others had to deal with.
I wasn't too keen on the first person perspective, mainly because I felt it showed Stephanie as quite conceited. (I kind of 'lost' some of my like for the story when she described herself as luscious...) Also, there was a lot of, '[Insert character here] thought this', which... well, she wasn't a mindreader.
I don't think I'll read a sequel to this. I really did want to like it, but I found it really difficult to like and I think there were a lot of issues left out that should have been dealt with.
When Stephanie reveals her special power, the ability to control static electricity and lightening, to the world, she is not prepared for the consequences. The young man Stephanie is in love with, Keith, has special powers too. Stephanie’s hope that her coming out with her powers would help her connect with others who have supernatural abilities puts her and Keith in the middle of a group of teens in a battle against the forces of hell. At stake is the very survival of the world.
Written for young adults, this is a book that will appeal to a variety of readers. Told in the first person and partially in flashbacks, it presents the character of Stephanie as an extremely sympathetic and complicated young girl. Her trying life as a teen runaway and her difficult family history have not dimmed her optimism or belief in other human beings or her capacity for faith. She is surrounded by various characters, many of whom have hidden agendas and secrets, and by a group of teens who are given the responsibility for saving the world. All of the teen characters are well crafted and compelling, but it is the main character that is the heart of this supernatural thriller and it is Stephanie that young adult readers and fans of supernatural fiction will identify with.
Even though this book is written for young adults, I very much enjoyed it. It is written beautifully, the characters are well developed, and the story is captivating. I love supernatural books and this one had such a unique plot.
Stephanie is able to control static electricity, but is it just a cool gift, or do her powers have consequences? When she meets and falls for a boy named Kyan, she learns that he has special powers too. Together they seek out others who are like them. The plot thickens as Stephanie finds herself in the middle of battling the forces of hell and trying to save the world.
I would definitely recommend Lightning Girl to others who enjoy reading supernatural books as well as books about good vs. evil. Stephanie was a great character because she was easy to relate to and I found myself identifying with many of the emotions she was facing. I can’t wait to read more books by this author named 27.
Amazing supernatural fantasy! I absolutely loved this story. 27, the author, did an amazing job developing Stephanie, Eric, Kyan, and Keith. I connected with each of these characters throughout the story. I especially enjoyed the relationship development between Stephanie and Kyan. It was very heartwarming even through all the drama and trouble. First book for me by this author and I have to say I connected with the writing style. The author got into the story right away and kept it moving quickly through the pages. I also like to always mention my respect for authors that publish full length stories in an era where many split one story into a series to cash in. This story is clearly written out of an inspiration to share imagination and that comes through in the pages. I highly recommend!
I would have to say the author definitely used skills to pull the reader in and keep your attention. chapter after chapter your transfixed in the storyline to see if Stephanie the main character will triumphant or be returned to her prison in the orphanage closet. Later in the book you get so caught up in the other synergies that I found myself hoping they weren't being played and led into a massive government trap to study them and imprison them all again making Stephanie look like the bad guy. I loved the devotion Stephanie had for little Kyan ,she was willing to do what ever it took to keep that little boy safe. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
I loved this book. If you ever watched the TV show Alphas, and love sci-fi fantasy, this book is for you. I loved how Stephanie became the spokesperson for these amazing people with special powers. Learning how they train in unison for future battle was quite exciting.I had trouble putting it down. Lightning Girl is an easy captivating read. It holds the reader throughout its pages. A great read for young adults and older adults as well. The author used narrative and simple sentences to explain the mission of a list of complex characters. If you want an easy reading sci fi fantasy "Lightning Girl" is for you. Can't wait for another in this fantasy series.
I like the mix of people w/ mutant powers and the addition of angels/demons to the story line. I never been a fan of books w/ a female lead. Saying that, I did find Stephanie to be one of my favorite female lead characters that I've come across. The supporting cast (while there are many of them) is great and really helps move the story line along. I'm looking forward to the next book to find out where the story line goes now.
I wouldn't consider it to be in the "Young Adult" category as some of the reviews have it listed. I would personally put in the fantasy or alternate world categories. I will recommend this to people that I know and will be awaiting the sequel.
Just finished this wonderful book, and I mean it is wonderful. I would categorize this book as scifi/fantasy genre. It is a story about a young girl with the special ability to harness lightening and bend it to her will. The idea itself is not unique, but the execution is flawless. The author meshed out a very believable and exciting world. The characters were well thought out and detailed perfectly. I am only half way through it, but I just had to write an early review. I am a big fan of scifi genre and this book one of the best I have found lately to satisfy my scifi needs.
"Lightning Girl: The Secret World of the Supernatural (Superconnected)" is one of the most amazing books I've read in a while. It is an emotional, truthful story, where you can almost see the characters in front of you. The struggles Stephanie faces are intense as she learns to control her powers. An amazing story well crafted to maintain interest throughout and fun to read in a dark stormy night. I downloaded and read it for free using my Unlimited Plan.
This straightforward novel combines the excitement of superpowers with the intrigue of an entire new concept of heaven and earth. Imaginative and likable characters evolve through several adventures to a truly epic finish. Counting the days until the next book hits the shelves.
This Book was a great read! I read it in a single day. The character development and background to the story was amazing and i especially like the second half of the book. The characters were all very relatable. Over all it was a easy read and i recommend it!
