Another solid addition to the Avatar World with its third visual dictionary. I own the previous two dictionaries and loved them both and this too follows suit 👍🏻.
I thought Fire and Ash was a great movie overall, it delivered that cinematic experience that’s being lost in today’s world, though this being said I did have some faults with it and it is my 3rd favourite in the franchise overall.
So when the dictionary dropped I was actually more eager and intrigued than by the previous instalments because I hoped it would explain more than what the movie did. In a nutshell this did just that! 😁👍🏻
I found this to be MORE insightful for when it came to reading about The Wind Traders and The Ash People, than it was showcased in the film ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. There was trivia here that I wasn’t aware of before until this book informed me of it. 🤓
Overall if you love Avatar and you’re interested in learning more on the na’vi, the creatures, the RDA, weapons etc, then definitely pick this one up and add it to your collection. I think this is my new favourite dictionary of the three, despite it being for a movie that’s my 3rd favourite in the franchise 😅👍🏻
Despite the issues I had with the film I’m still hoping that movies 4 and 5 can get made so that these books can continue being published! It would be nice to own the complete collection 🙏🏻.
Side note: it’s a very minor and overly critical thing to point out, but there were a grammar mistake in here that I couldn’t help but notice 🫣. It didn’t take me out from reading the book nor has it effected the rating but I do question how something like that can go unnoticed in a book such as this. A book that is part of the HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE OF ALL TIME. You would expect perfection for the merch…at least I do 😗🫢
An absolute wonderful addition to the Avatar world. The detail & thought put behind every little on thing on Pandora is too cool. James Cameron will forever be the GOAT.
This review is a bit all over the place, just to warn you.
A thorough visual on all things Pandora, emphasizing what was introduced in Fire and Ash. With such a fast-paced film, this dictionary allows readers to slow down and take in details they may have missed and then some.
I am a biology nerd, so stuff about the flora and fauna was a huge highlight for me. There are also a plethora of pages about Na'vi life, especially about the culture and customs of the new clans. My favorite tidbits are about the Sully family (and what they wear), Omatikayan toys, winrays, the ecology of a new biome, new tulkun characters, and the nod to a creature Neytiri bonded with in the first film.
The book also has pages dedicated to RDA laboratories, machinery, and vehicles. Though it looks like there's less pages about them than in The Way of Water's visual dictionary (which I also bought at the same time, but haven't gotten to yet). It showcases the nuances with current and former RDA workers. One detail that sticks with me is that the giant bulldozers (the D-22) have built-in safety protocols to limit unintended harm to people or artifacts underneath. It's a deliberate choice to override that.
I wish the book had more information about the ikran and toruk, but I have a feeling they're covered far more in a visual novel about the first film.
i feel like every dedicated fan should read at least one of these books, because you learn soooo much more about the lore of each artifact and character that ties things together and might not even be shown in the movies. you get an insight that adds so much more to the world building, 100% worth the money
what a detail! having so much fun learning they way of living discovering the new clans ; tlalim & mangkwan. also the flora & fauna of pandora and i’m so glad the weapons are mentioned in such a detailed way wether it’s na’vi bow/spear or the RDA thecs. one of the reason i bought this is bcs i wanna know the structure of their own songchord turns out you’re getting more and more and more knowledge about pandora i’m just so happy reading all of this aaaaaarrghh!!!!
A lot of this stuff you could have just inferred after watching the movie because a lot of the explanations dont explain enough imo. It gave very little insight into things that you would wonder after watching it
