Lost and cut off from Earth, the crew of the starship Valiant seeks a way home.

In the eleventh book of the Star Force series Cody Riggs collides with the overwhelming power of the Ancients. They fly incomprehensible ships and consider humans to be curiosities.

Caught between ghosts of the past and demons of the present, Cody is abandoned by everyone. His girl, his crew, and even his ships change sides, exiling him in the cold depths of space.

As is the strength of any Riggs family member, Cody manages to climb back into the game, upsetting the plans of his enemies and his allies alike. The only question is whether or not he’ll live long enough to regret it.

EXILE is a full length novel of science fiction by bestselling authors B. V. Larson and David VanDyke. The first book telling Cody Riggs' story is titled OUTCAST. If you've never read any of the Star Force novels, SWARM was the beginning of it all.

A good read, despite some ridiculous behavior from one of the main characters.

Poprzednie tomy określałem niskich lotów guilty pleasure. Teraz zmieniam nazwe.

W sumie to nic... Po prostu nic się też nie zmieniło. NIC. Zero. Cody Riggs ma inne imie, inne panienki i czesciowo inna załoge (chociaż kilka starych postaci zostało), natomiast charakterologicznie to 100% poprzedni protagonista. Niebiescy to teraz starożytni. Tyle.

Gdybym to czytał w formie papierowej, to przeskakiwałbym całe rozdziały. Gdyby to byl serial to bym przeklikiwał połowe scen. Cóż, jest to audiobook w samochodzie...zostaje tylko szybkość odtwarzania 2x Obiecuję jednak sobie - to ostatni cienki cykl i jeszcze coś w tym roku "quality" przeczytam!

Co-authored?

Definitely a fun read. The imagery got kind of "dreamy" in some sections but held together better than an actual dream. Stories in this dream state allow the authors to do unworldly things, which Larson & VanDyke take full advantage of. As always, there is plenty of introspection on the human condition. Comparing what we hold as normal up against what other cultures consider normal allows us the chance to examine ourselves, of which Larson & VanDyke also take full advantage. Can you tell by reading that it is co-authored? Perhaps slightly. There is a little different "flavor" to the writing style, but not so much to be distracting and so so.it's largely to past books that Larson could be the solo writer. Anyway, it is a great story with inventive imagery and vivid characters.

This eleventh book in the Star Force series is a little tired. This series overall is great pulp science fiction. But, I felt this one just wasn't as fun or entertaining as it's predecessors. The final space battle in the book seemed especially repetitive with an old supposedly defeated foe returning. I'll give the author credit for taking a very small side story in one of the earlier books and bringing it back here to create a new conflict. But, the conflict just wasn't that interesting. The ending cliffhanger is a decent one though. I'll still pick up the (currently) final book in the series to see what happens next.

The focus shifting to Kyle Riggs’ son gives it a different vibe, but in a good way. He’s definitely a lot like his father—smart, quick-thinking, and, well… has the same interest in women. It feels like the torch has been passed, but the personality and attitude that make the series fun are still there.

The story moves fast and has enough twists to keep things exciting. There are also some really interesting discoveries in this one that make me super curious to see what happens next. It feels like things are building toward something big, and I’m already looking forward to reading the next book.

Overall, a fun and exciting read!

2.5 Stars rounded down - Repetitive and messy

Maybe it's because, this is volume 11 and lack of new ideas is to be expected or maybe it's yet another co-writer setup, where the actual writing is done by the co-writer.

Any case this one felt incoherent and unstructured, for the first time in the series i lost attention in several sections and had to rewind to catch up.

I'm probably going to listen to the last in the series, just to get closure.

I was fully engaged in this book, it is the favourite of my series, almost like ideas have come from another person bringing the writing to another level.

Kept me turning pages

Liked getting close to the technology of the ancients, such as teleportation and greater than 3 dimensional constructs.

I hadn't read one of these Star Force books in quite awhile. Not that I didn't want to, but after reading several of them with Kyle Riggs as the guy who gets into all sorts of trouble, it's a little strange reading about Cody Riggs, his Son doing the same things. And, yes, if didn't know there was a whole series of books with his father's exploits, you'd assume this all started with Cody Riggs. But, it didn't so Cody is fighting the same battles as his Dad.

Still, there is some variety in Cody's stories. Right now, he and his ship, the Valant, are at rest and making numerous necessary repairs. They have just fought some rough battles with the Lithoes and previous to that, some people eating Panda Bears! Now, as you know, these are all different species of aliens that the Valant has ran into flying from one ring to another. Riggs and his human crew are just trying to get back to the Sol system, but can't find the right ring.

So far, almost every ring they have gone through his resulted in some really bad experiences. Even the last ring found them helping a race of Raptors who then decided they wanted the Valant for themselves. Riggs and his crew manged to convince them that the effort wasn't worth the trouble so they finally decided to leave them alone. But Riggs and his crew aren't out of trouble yet!

Of course, they have trouble with them by the name of Marvin. Yet, the obnoxious and very devious sientient robot is still around. He is just as much a pain in the backside for Cody as he was for his Dad. Marvin is definitely a part of the book I could do without. He causes so many problems that I would have dismantled him ages ago.

Then there’s Cody’s love interest, Adrianne! She is a big pain in the backside. I don’t know why the author had to make her such a jealous bitch. Cody can’t do anything without her getting upset and he acts like a wet puppy every time she throws a fit! It’s disgusting the way he lets her pull him around by the nose. I know Cody is just a kid, but good night, man, get a backbone! Sure would be nice if they could just have a relationship based on trust.

Ok, so they’re still trying to find the right ring to get home. They have to fight their way through a new ring with a huge Raptor battleship coming after them. They also are trying to rescue some friendly Raptors coming to the Valiant via a troop transport. The transport is unarmed and is getting blasted by the Raptor battleship. Once it gets close to the Valiant, the friendly Raptors have to move over to the Valiant. So, stupid Captain Cody Riggs can’t let them do this maneuver without him standing in the middle of everything instead of staying on the bridge where he should be. So, the majority of the books is about Mr. Stupid Captain trying to get back aboard his spaceship which he never should have left! These Riggs’ guys always have to put some stupid stunt that gets them into deeper trouble. Of course, if they didn’t, we’d have nothing to read about!

This is a well written book. The editing is excellent. No missing words or strange sentence structure. The story flows pretty well and it’s exciting. Very hard book to put down. I will enjoy reading the next book in the series because Cody Riggs and the Valiant aren’t home yet!

Not bad, but largely unremarkable. A major revelation at the end could have ramifications down the line, but there's no way to know that, or to judge this book based on a tiny scene in the last 3% of the novel. If you've read every Star Force book up to now, there's no reason you wouldn't read and enjoy this. For fans coming in at the Cody Riggs / Star Force: TNG era, this book may be a harder sell, with less time spent aboard ship than in the previous title. For myself, I still plan to read book 12 (3), subject to it being available on the Kindle Prime lending library, but I'm not sure about book 13 (4) at this point.

Excellent!!!

I can never get enough of reading these books. Larson and his co-writers books are just full of possibilities still leaving you wanting more. From start to finish their great. I ...i can truly say Marvin is a wonderfully thought through character a skill fully making you rout for him and his antics. I'm happy I found them is a great writer and I suggested everybody, whomever, likes spacefaring novels....THIS IS A MUST READ!!!!!

I loved this story.

I'm a fan of this whole series of stories. From the adventures of Kyle Riggs and now on to his son Cody. I also like some of the continuing characters ,Kwon is just a great steady character. The story lines and be followed. I also have to say that Marvin is more than just a robot. He's quite the character never really sure what he's going to do makes the stories more fun

Once again the series takes off and continues to be a great story. I would recommend starting with the first book in the series. I look forward to each installment of the series. I really like Marvin, you just never know what he will do next.

The book occupies itself largely with mutiny and incomprehensible aliens. While this is usual B.V. Larson fare, it is much less interesting than seeing interactions with more relatable aliens.
